The Themed Land Concept Of Parks
The Themed Lands Concept
All Disney theme parks are designed based on themed lands. In each land, the theme is reflected in the
surrounding infrastructure, the appearance of employees, the character of food and other franchises,
and the entertainment (Curwen, 1995, p.15). The original Disneyland in California was designed with
a land that acts as a throughway to guide guests to the castle, Main Street, USA. From the castle, the
other themed lands jut out like spokes of a wheel with the castle being the main focal point of the
theme park. The Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong
Disneyland all follow the same original layout of the park in California. Most of the theme parks
across the world include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main Street, USA represents a time of a wholesome America to many guests and while walking down
Main Street, USA, they feel a sense nostalgia. For this reason, the moment guests step into a Disney
theme park, America thus becomes the dominant narrative of the park, with the majority of its lands
devoted to telling the stories of American history (Philips, 2002, p.34). Although this land does not
host any attractions, it does have shops and eateries for guests to stop by on their way to and from the
castle and the rest of the theme park.
Although Tokyo Disneyland claims to be a replica of Disneyland in California, there are a lot of
differences between the two theme parks. When building the theme park, the Oriental Land Company
modified a few themed lands and attractions so that themes nostalgic for Americans but meaningless
for the Japanese have been renamed and recontextualized to capture the attention of the new clientele
(Brannen, 1992, p. 221). Main Street, USA is renamed to the World Bazaar at Tokyo Disneyland and
keeps the quasi Victorian architecture of the buildings , but hints of Art Deco façade are added to the
buildings in Tokyo (Brannen, 1992, p.222; Marling, 1997). The renaming of the land does not change
the theming of the land being inherently American. The idea of Main Street is a concept used by
American towns to describe their main thoroughfare. There are no main streets in Japan so the
theming of the land is

Socially Responsible Design Essay
Socially responsible Design
Understanding how to design for the people
Despite marketing forces, design can overcome the barriers/external forces in order to maintain its
integrity and to practice responsibly/ethically.
What is it to be socially responsible? Social responsibility is the idea that designers and businesses
should accept their social responsibilities and not be exclusively focused on maximizing profits.
Social responsibility demands developing businesses to create a positive relationship to the society or
market that they operate in. Within this essay I will be covering the history of socially responsible
design involving key figures and projects, case studies discussing companies and designers that

These different approaches demonstrate the range of issues that have been impacted on by the design
movement. In the 1960s, the ecological movement in the United States drew attention to large
environmental issues such as high levels of pollution and the depletion of the world s resources.
Designers were pressed to find a greater range of implications of their actions in terms of societies in
the future. This concept later lead to an upsurge of Green Design and eco design due to an increased
interest from businesses and consumers. Green Design aims at environmental issues as recycling,
energy efficiency or design for durability. Eco design takes a product s life cycle into account, from
material extraction through to its eventual disposal; along side this, designers should attempt to link
environmental issues with the social and economic factors related to quality of life, this is also know
as Sustainable Design . Eco design projects have developed environmentally friendly packaging,
redesigned textile ranges and changed manufacturing processes. An example of a company that
develops eco friendly packaging is Biopac . Biopac are the UK s leading supplier of eco friendly food
packaging and catering disposables. They use

Social Injustice In Hidden Intellectualism By Colin...
There is no question that American culture has evolved over the years. Many citizens have become far
more liberal than others, but it has become widely apparent that strong cultural differences are still a
point of debate. The idea is that every citizen possesses the same equal rights, yet in Colin Kaepernick
and the question of who gets to be called a Patriot , Wesley Morris portrays how Kaepernick calls
attention to social injustice in a televised national sport. In addition, in Hidden Intellectualism Gerald
Graff demonstrates a lack of guidance that enhances new ideas provided by the educational systems in
the nation, by focusing solely on purely academic issues. Both argue the insufficiency of schooling
and widespread social inequality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Genetic Disorder And Genetic Disorders
A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by missing or abnormalities in the chromosomes of a
human. Finding out if an offspring has a genetic disorder can be determined by using basic genetics.
The Punnett Square, a diagram used to predict the results of a crossing or breeding of two species, can
determine the outcome of an offspring by using the genotypes of both parents. Pairing the genotypes
of both parents together can show the four different genotypes of offspring, two being female, and the
other two male. By using this method, parents can predict the probability of their child having a
genetic disease. Since most genetic disorders are recessive, if both parents have or are carriers of a
genetic disorder, the probability of their offspring having the disorder can range from twenty five to
one hundred percent.
Sickle Cell is a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells, causing them to become sickle, or
misshapen. This makes the hemoglobin in the red blood cell not able to move oxygen throughout the
body causing severe pain. Sickle Cell is genetic due to a person inheriting affected genes from their
parents, and both parents have to be carriers because the disorder is homozygous recessive. With two
carrier parents, the child has a twenty five percent chance of being unaffected, fifty percent chance of
being a carrier, and a twenty five percent chance of having Sickle Cell.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that mainly affects the lungs and digestive system

The Superiority Theory Of Humor
There are many ways that people use humor. It has been used both in positive and negative ways. The
negative, or more aggressive, view of humor is evident in ancient writings and in the merciless teasing
that children inflict on one another. , However, in modern times, humor is now commonly seen as a
positive aspect and that the laughter that arises is the expression [an] incongruity. Because of these
two conflicting view of humor, there have been multiple theories proposed to explain it.
There are two major theories in explaining humor. The first is the superiority theory. In line with the
past views on humor, the superiority theory takes on a much more negative, serious, and intense take
on how humor functions and why we laugh. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory focuses more specifically on the cognition and [gives] less attention to the social and
emotional aspects of humor. The incongruity resolution theory can be applied to many forms of
humor. One example is visual incongruities. We laugh when we see a young child try to act like an
adult around an even younger child. The incongruity is we expect the young child to still act
immaturely around the small child but does not. The resolution is that the young child is playing make
believe or somehow trying to impress the younger child.
The second type of incongruity is through wordplay. Prime examples are puns. For example, George
Carlin said, Atheism is a non prophet institution. The incongruity is found in the meaning of non
prophet and nonprofit. Atheism is known as the lack of belief or denial of a higher being/God/religion.
So, non prophet relates to the meaning of atheism. However, non prophet also sounds a lot like
nonprofit. In the pun, atheism is called an institution. Based off how prophet and profit sound the
same, atheism could also be considered a nonprofit institution. It is, in the pun, both an institution that
does not believe in God and an institution whose primary goal is not to make money. Unlike the
superiority theory, the incongruity resolution theory makes it explicit that these examples of humor are
all in a safe environment or

Mainframes and Personal Computers
Compare and Contrast
Mainframes and Personal Computers
Overview
Mainframes and personal computers have evolved over the years but their core functions have stayed
the same. The mainframe is used connect multiple users for large organizations while personal
computers are generally used for a single users. The more drastic changes for mainframes and
personal computers have been speed and size. Mainframes use to be the size of buildings. Now they
are the size of a textbook. Personal computer s origins came from the dumb terminal. The dumb
terminal was used just to access the mainframe. Then, the idea came to off load some of the
processing from the mainframe and place it on your desktop.
Compare
The hardware is very similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extra security and stability is needed. Resetting a mainframe should not happen as often as a personal
computer. This is because a mainframe will affect hundreds to thousands of users. The mainframe
supports many users. Multiple processors are needed to handle the extra load that mainframes receive.
Multiple processors are the standard for mainframes while it is only an option for personal computers.
This helps the mainframe s stability because a backup processor can be used in case of a failure. This
is also what makes the operating system more complex then the personal computer. Stability is
expected for the mainframe more than a personal computer. The mainframe is also expected to run 24
hours a day 7 days a week. This is why stability is so important with the mainframe. The mainframe
does not stop working when everyone goes home. The cost of the mainframe encourages the users to
use it as much as possible.
Conclusion
Mainframes and Personal computers were drastically different when they were first introduced. The
mainframe took up buildings and the personal computer was only an interface to a mainframe. Today,
their similarities are growing. Eventually we will not be able to tell the difference. Has cost comes
down for mainframes they to will become personal computers or an add on to a personal computer for
the price of a hard drive today. Back in the day, mainframes were huge so I will conclude by saying it

Stand Against Seal Hunt and Pipelines in Canada
RESEARCH ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
Protesters (left) gather near the Canadian embassy in Paris, France, to protest the annual seal hunt in
Canada.
The word honte on the Canadian flag means shame.
Inuit communities are exempted from seal product restrictions and are allowed to hunt up to 400,000
seals ( a quota set by the government)
This is because it is part of their culture
There s growing demand for seal skin coats, boots, slippers and other products in the province and
across Canada
Fur is also still going to markets in China and other parts of Asia
Our federal government is fighting the European Union s ban on seal products through the World
Trade Organization
European General Court dismissed a Canadian challenge of the EU ban ^^^^^
The federal Fisheries Department says that starting 2014, all licence holders taking part in the
commercial seal hunt will have to complete training on its accepted three step process for killing seals
The training program is working, and we have to continue at that so that sealers will operate in what
we call a professional manner and treat the animals humanely and with respect, Frank Pinhorn
executive director of the Canadian Sealers Association.
The province has vigorously defended the seal hunt as a vital income source for struggling outports
that rely on that cash to help fund the rest of the fishing season.
And what I saw this year was exactly what I see every year: seals were wounded and left to suffer

Symptoms And Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain
Pain is a complex, unpleasant, and disruptive sensation. The day to day pain people experience from a
paper cut or a flu shot results from the activation of nociceptive receptors at the site of tissue injury,
which is known as nociceptive pain. Some individuals also have experience with a different type of
pain, one that is chronic, intractable, disabling, and it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or
disease affecting the somatosensory system (Treede, 2008). This form of pain is neuropathic pain.
The term neuropathic pain is loosely used in the literature without a well defined classification system
and it broadly represents any syndromes with an underlying physiologic damage to the pain
transmission pathway (Treede, 2008). The causes of nerve tissue damage in neuropathic pain, whether
peripherally or central, are widespread. They range from nerve destruction during surgery or trauma to
metabolic disturbances, cancer, infectious diseases and other causes (Woolf, 1999). Common
symptoms suggestive of neuropathic pain are spontaneous or provoked sensory abnormalities such as
dysesthesia, paresthesia, allodynia, as well as complete sensory deficit in some cases. A few types of
neuropathic pain with manifestations in the head and neck region are trigeminal neuralgia,
glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post herpetic neuralgia and atypical facial pain. Dentists are in a unique
position where they are challenged on an almost daily basis to diagnose and treat pain in the orofacial

Jennifer Heap Research Paper
She s not your traditional author by any means, but her work could be be considered poetry. A solo
artist known for the group Frou Frou and her song Hide and Seek , meet my favorite author, Imogen
Jennifer Heap. Born December 9, 1977 in Essex, Imogen Heap for the most part is self taught and is a
huge success. Imogen defied the unwritten rule of solo acts by instead of making a name for herself in
a group then leaving to do their own thing, Imogen did the opposite. She was born in the rural part of
Essex to a businessman and a future art therapist. 12 years after Imogen was born, her parents
divorced. At the young age of 13, Heap could already play piano, cello, and clarinet. She attended the
Quaker Friends School and there she self taught herself how to produce music on Atari computers
after she could not get along with her music teacher. At 16, she wanted to produce orchestral music.
As part of her studies, she recorded pop demos that caught the attention of managers that believed she
should go into the studio. In 1996, Heap began working with an experimental pop band called Acacia.
She was never a real member of the band, just a guest vocalist. One of the band members would play
an important part in the future, and one of Acacia s songs will pop up later on. ... Show more content

1. Why is information security a management problem? What can management do that Technology
cannot?
Management is an information problem due to the fact that policymaking and training of securing
systems from users fall into the responsibility of their role. These responsibilities can include limiting
access as well as disabling certain functions that are not related to the organizations function.
Management can set policies that may arise due to improper uses or manipulations of systems and
asses the threats that are unknown due to the introduction of new hardware and software. 2. Why is

5. What is information extortion? Describe how such an attack can cause losses, using an example not
found in the text.
Information extortion happens when an insider or outsider gain information about an organization and
demands some form of compensation in exchange for the information. An example could be
something like a person creating a code to obtain information of how to enter a restricted part of the
network and having the ability to mask their identity and hide within the system. Using that info, a
person could sell the company an intrusion /detection or firewall software in exchange for the codes.
6. Why do employees constitute one of the greatest threats to information security?
The employees are considered the greatest threats due to the daily interaction of the company s data.
The employee can also forget to log off, send the data to people in email attachment to either inside or
outside the company as well as someone actually passing along passwords to access to the system. 7.
What measures can individuals take to protect against shoulder surfing?
A measure to take would be to install a screen filter to distort the view of the monitor as well as being
aware of your surrounding when entering certain information such as passwords. 8. How

The Epic Of Beowulf By Beowulf
People throughout the world practice a variety of religions. Some religions are more popular than
others such as Buddhism versus Jainism. Religions tend to spread within a society and then die back
down. However, there are still people amongst us who believe or may even still practice archaic
religions. Some religions date back to 700 A.D such as Christianity and paganism. Over the course of
hundreds of years both religions have evolved. Throughout different works of literature, people are
able to understand the original aspects of these different religions. Due to the construction of this
Beowulf, students and professors are able to study and get a true understanding of a pagans demeanor
and how life evolves through their eyes. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf, paganism is exemplified
as this epic hero falls victim to fate while embarking on his journey through life fighting monsters and
chasing after his fame.
To begin with, Beowulf was composed in Old English by an anonymous writer between the sixth and
seventh century, and it is known for portraying the emergence of the Anglo Saxons and their way of
life. Adams David Leeming, author of The Anglo Saxons 449 1066 , stated that the island of Great
Britain, secluded from the European continent, seemed perfect for the birth of legends, poets, and the
belief in elves due to its rain drenched and almost always fogged weather. This type of weather is ideal
for such stories involving heroes and legends. This island has been

Protein Synthesis and Transcription
Beadle and Tatum s experiment and their one gene one enzyme hypothesis showed that the production
of one protein is dependent on one gene.
Francis Crick originated the idea of the central dogma. It states that biological information can only
flow in one direction: from DNA to RNA to a protein.
The three key types of RNA that are involved in protein synthesis are mRNA (messenger RNA),
rRNA (ribosomal RNA) and tRNA (transfer RNA). The way I learned to remember the functions of
these three is the same way it s shown on the estrellamountain website. mRNA is like the blueprint of
a construction site with its copy of the genetic information of DNA, rRNA is like the construction site
where the protein is made, and tRNA is like the delivery truck that brings amino acids to where they
need to be at the right time. Transcription is when RNA is formed by using an enzyme called RNA
polymerase to copy a strand of DNA. Before it can begin, a protein called a transcription factor has to
bind to the promoter (a region in the DNA that identifies where a gene starts, where it s supposed to be
copied, and in what direction). Then, the polymerase binds to these two things (promoter transcription
factor) before it unwinds the template strand of DNA between the promoter and the terminator. The
RNA polymerase copies the template strand of DNA by matching the original nucleotides with their
complementary base pairs the only difference is that instead of adenine being matched with thymine,

Disadvantages Of Multicultural Marriage
Being born in the 21st century, we are exposed to many new concepts in the society. The concept of
family also changed as well as time passes; people nowadays have better understanding towards non
traditional families such as transsexual or homosexual marriage.
I used to think that it is better to form family or find spouses with the same nationality (i.e. Chinese)
and similar cultural background, as this can foster better understanding between one and another.
However, it is now a common practise and phenomenon to see multicultural marriage and families in
a cosmopolitan society like Hong Kong. We are lucky to be given many opportunities to be in touch
with people with different cultural background, no matter in our learning environment such as
exchange programmes or study tour, or in workplace like joining business tours.

I am new to the profession of education, but where I lack in experience I make up for it when it comes
to my enthusiasm and willingness to learn more. My first field experience was at Milton Union high
school, and it was also the most scared I ve ever been in the classroom. However, when I went to
Stivers School for the Arts things got even better I felt more prepared. This year I m back at Stivers
and so far everything has been good, and I really enjoy working with my cooperating teacher. This
year will be a test of my endurance and capabilities. I am up to the challenge to work with students
who are linguistically diverse, even though I know it might be difficult at times. Studying Spanish for
six years half in high school and college have given me an idea of how disorienting it is to not
understand the language. Not only is it disorienting it is also very challenging, because languages are
all unique in vocabulary and grammar structure. These experiences will become of aid to me when I m
working with ESL students in the classroom. One thing that I am excited about in the syllabi is the
Socratic Seminars on page three. We will be having one seminar each time we meet for class over the
readings that we had for homework the previous week. I am excited for these seminars, because I
appreciate the opportunity to be able to discuss with my peers about what I am reading. It gives me a

The Problem Of Crime Rate
Abstract
Crime is a big problem in the world. Many believe that nothing can be done to prevent it. The crime
rates are increasing rapidly all around the world. Crime is not easy to completely remove from our
society. For many years Scientist and psychologists have argued over whether upbringing forms of a
child s behavior or whether they are born with a personality disorder, or could it be the way their brain
is set up or their body type? Society may never really know all the causes of this criminal behavior.
With all the disagreement going on with the subject on the causes of criminals , the controversial
question would be Are criminals born, or made?
There are so many reasons behind the increased crime rate. I believe to figure out why the crime rate
is rapidly increasing, it is important to figure out the main cause and treat it. With proper measures
like straight laws, sufficient punishments, good moral and education, we may be able to avoid the
crimes to a certain extent.
In today society, crime rate is increasingly on the rise. The crimes that are being caused are stealing,
poverty, desperation, kidnap, rape, robbery, physical fighting, substance abuse, and many other crimes
that are not mentioned. For many years it has been said that a person s parents are the root to make the
person they become as an adult. A child s role model would mainly be their parents, but as a person s
age and grows older. They start to have other influence in their lives. Such as

Examples of Presentation Punishment and Removal Punishment
Punishment
Punishment is a consequence that decreases the frequency of the behavior it follows. There are two
different categories that punishment can fall under: presentation punishment and removal punishment.
Presentation punishment involves introducing a new and unpleasant stimulus. Removal punishment
involves removing a wanted stimulus. Punishment in educational settings has been a particularly
controversial subject, since many people view punishment as something barbaric or cruel. Also, if
administered incorrectly punishment can have adverse effects.
There are times when reinforcement would not suffice and punishment may be deemed necessary.
Particularly when the bad behavior has no known reinforcement and no other method has worked.
When dealing out punishment it is important to determine which type would be most effective and
fair. Punishments that have proven effective to some degree are: scolding, response cost, logical
consequence, positive practice overcorrection, time out, and in school suspension.
There are also punishments that are not affective or that actually end up having adverse effects. These
include: physical punishment, psychological punishment, extra classwork, and out of school
suspension. In particular, out of school suspension can be very bad and unfair for students. This is
particularly true for students who already have academic problems.
It should always be made clear what behaviors could result in punishment. This alone could be

Outline: The purpose of this paper is to Advise Allan, Belinda and CareFree Pty Ltd as to the
constitutional validity of the Medicinal Cannabis Act 2011 (Cth) (MCA) in terms of whether its
provisions apply to them under the trade and commerce power s 51(i) and as to whether the MCEA

Therefore in the given impugned law, the MCA is related to the trade and commerce with other
countries, the character of the law, even though not all of them, does fall under the enumerated head of

as it affects the trade and commerce of cannabis for the purpose of medicinal use. Sufficient
Connection with head of power: The third step in determining the validity of the impugned law is to
ask whether there is a sufficient connection with the head of power. That is how close the connection
is between the impugned law and the heads of power. Sufficient connection with head of power fairly

Martin Luther King and Malcom X Essay
When people hear the word Civil Rights Movement, two men automatically come to their minds,
Martin Luther King
Jr. and Malcolm X. While both these men had very different views and ideas, they also shared
similarities. Part of the reason for their different views was because one was in the South and the other
was in the North. Martin saw a
Dream that could be fulfilled in the South and Malcolm saw a Nightmare, which would never end in
the North. Martin and Malcolm were raised in very different homes. Martin
Luther King Jr. grew up in Atlanta; his family status was that of the middle class, he never
experienced poverty or hunger like Malcolm did. Martin was raised in a loving and supporting

Going to school was not always easy for either Malcolm or Martin.
Malcolm grew up in Lansing, Michigan, where schools were integrated. At his junior high school,
Malcolm frequently heard the words, Nigger , coon , darkie , and Rastus. He heard these epithets so
often they ceased to be insulting; he thought of them as actual names. 1 The name calling was not the
worst of it though. One of the most devastating moments for Malcolm was when he was in the eighth
grade. He told his English teacher that he wanted to be a lawyer when he grew up. His teacher s
response was that a better career for him might be carpentry. This of course was very insulting and
was the main reason why he left school. Although Martin never had to grow up in the integrated
North, he did have to go to school in the segregated schools of Montgomery. Martin s experiences
with white people when he was young were not bad. He even had a white friend whom he played with
until he entered school. After he entered school he, which was all black, he did not have the same kind
of exposure to white people as he had had before. It did not really seem to effect Martin that much
until the day the parents of his white friend said that he could no longer play with their son. They told
Martin the

Romanticism In The Raft Of The Medusa
Romanticism, like most artistic movements, can best be understood when juxtaposed with history. It
was a time of uprisings and conflicts, of liberal thought and confrontation and the winds of change
swept away everyone and everything, from monarchies and governments to French farmers and salon
owners. A new way of thinking and looking at the world was proposed; the shift revealed itself in the
works of new artistic masters who broke out onto the scene, shocking the critics and the public
(mostly bourgeois, old masters, and nobles) with their new styles that approached art in a way that
challenged all traditions. Such changes can be tracked from the mass of altered techniques and change
of focus, usually very manifest in most paintings, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In July 2012, Coverity charged Forrester Consulting to direct an overview investigation of 240 North

reason for the study is to comprehend the current application security practices and distinguish key
patterns and business sector headings crosswise over commercial enterprises.

18% of those respondents experienced misfortunes of at any rate $500,000.
We likewise found that, regarding application security, most associations utilize strategic measures
and point innovations. Few endeavor to actualize an all encompassing, prescriptive application
security strategy. This is principally because of time to market weights, detaches in the middle of
designers and security experts, and the absence of compelling application security motivating forces.
Seventy percent of our review respondents don t gauge designers with security related measurements,
and 57% don t send security prerequisites downstream to guide quality and security testing.
Looking forward, as organizations ponder a more advanced and threatening risk scene, developing
arrangements of regulations and outsider prerequisites, and an extraordinary level of IT change, they
will have no real option except to enhance their application security stance. On the off chance that
designers don t incorporate security and protection into their advancement hones from the most
punctual stages, tending to it later won t just be more costly, yet could be totally ineffectual. For this
situation, organizations may find that a greater number of things than simply their applications are at

Brachial Plexus Injury
The brachial Plexus is the network of nerves that sends signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm,

axillary canal where it finally reaches the axilla. It is formed in the cervical and thoracic parts in the
spine, (C5 C8, T1). An injury occurs to this when the nerves are aggravated. This could mean they
become stressed, compressed, or ripped away from the spinal cord. Some common injuries that cause
this is in contact sports such as football, basketball, hockey, or lacrosse. More serious injuries are from

Massey Ferguson Case
Question 4. a) What are the main problems for MF in 1980? What alternatives were available to MF?
Market wide problems:
• High interest rates – After the 1973 oil crisis and the 1979 energy crisis, the US economy was
affected by stagflation. In an effort to fight excessive inflation, the Fed adopted a tight monetary
policy, raising interest rates (as an illustration, the federal funds rate increased from 11% in 1979 to
20% by June 1981).
This affected all players as it led to a plunge of stock market prices, on the one hand, and an economic
recession, on the other. Furthermore, Massey was particularly hit hard: since it mainly financed its
operations with short term debt, its financing cost went up dramatically.
• Low demand – The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This made it very difficult to negotiate the restructuring of claims the company needed to survive.
Finally, cross default provisions substantially increased Massey s default risk. If any single default
ocurred, all short and long term debt would become callable, leaving the company with no choice but
to stop operations and use its assets to pay off lenders.
• Inability to further finance its operations – While Massey needed new funds even to be able to
honour its commitments, its extremely high leverage and the numerous covenants on its existing loans
impeded it from raising new debt, or equity for that matter. Its 1980 initiative to issue preferred shares
was indefinitely postponed when its largest shareholder refused to take a block of the preferreds as a
vote of confidence.
• Currency risk – In 1980, 76.7% of Massey s engine production was concentrated in the UK.
However, its UK Perkins subsidiary exported more than 86% of its products. As a consequence, when
the pound rose in 1980, it increased Massey s cost of goods sold disproportionate to its revenue,
reducing margins.
• Operating costs of financial distress – Doubts about the future of the company weakened Massey s
distribution network. Furthermore, the bargaining power of its customers and suppliers increased, so
that while barely supporting its daily operations, Massey granted

Physical Treatment Of Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is defined as the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical method. To
me, physical therapy is more complex than just the physical treatment. Physical therapy means that
someone is able to live more freely and independently without being bound by my physical ailments.
Physical therapy can not only help someone live an active and healthy lifestyle, but it can also give
someone back their freedom to continue to live the way they want to live their life. A team of physical
therapists work to provide the utmost care to the patients in order for each individual to regain a state
of satisfactory living. I have personal experience with therapy. In July of 2013, I was hit by an
automobile while operating a motorcycle. My entire right leg was damaged during the impact, and my
femur and tibia were fractured. I lost most of the function of my right leg for six months and was
wheelchair bound. My accident took away my life, my independence, and my ability to live happily.
Physical therapy does not just provide assistance in ways of physical healing. It is a holistic physical,
emotional, and social form of treatment that encompasses emotional healing and social assistance
growth as well. As living creatures, we rely so much on our bodies in order to transport us to places
we need to be, work to get our needs meet, and to enjoy ourselves. When something happens that
causes the bodies abilities to change, it can affect every aspect of a person s life.

Many people in these groups have compounding barriers to treatment including cost, language
obstacles, mistrust of medical intervention, stigma, and lack of access to information. (Krieger N,
Waterman PD, Chen JT, et al., 2003)
Primary community and prevention resources include the Clark County Health Department Sexual
Health Clinic and private physicians. The Sexual Health Clinic is open to all; there is a $40 charge for
STI screenings. This fee will be placed on account if the patient does not have the funds at the time of
the visit. The clinic does not have a billing system, those with outstanding accounts will never receive
a bill. The clinic will give out prescriptions as needed for treatment. The cost of that medication will
be the responsibility of the patient. The patient that has health care insurance can seek care in the
private physician s office with no charge. Often the needed medications are covered by health
insurance.
The underlying causes of the sharp increase of STI s in Clark County include a combination of factors,
including multiple sexual partners, fewer STI prevention campaigns and increasingly popular dating
apps and websites that make casual sex easier. The constant flow of visitors into and out of Las Vegas
every year makes identify and notify patients of possible infections exposure impossible. According to

Canadian Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Canada is a diverse country. From its tundras to its cities, different peoples and animals thrive, and an
assortment of foods can be tasted. Canada also makes a great tourist destination. It is surprising that
even though it borders the United States, it is still a completely separate country. Canada was
discovered by the Viking Leif Erikson in the year one thousand. After exploring Greenland, he
discovered Newfoundland, an island off the main Canadian coast. Later, in the 1540s, the French
explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence River that cuts through Canada. This exploration
expanded until Cartier had established French control over Canada. However, England also claimed
parts of Canada for itself. Throughout the sixteenth to seventeenth centuries, France and England
contiuned to take Canadian territory for themselves. The French and Indian War, which ended in 1763,
forced the French to give up their territory to England. The British wanted to avoid rebellion, so they
divided Canada into upper and lower Canada, the upper being more English and the lower being more
French. However, much conflict was occurring between the two provinces, so the British reunited
them into one colony again, hoping that this would eliminate the French culture of the country

American legal and cultural studies brings a strong and powerful perspective in her compare and

the effects of pornography [being] increasingly mainstreamed (1). She relates this phenomenon almost

Essay on Time Value Of Money
Time Value of Money
The time value of money serves as the foundation of finance. The fact that a dollar today is worth
more than a dollar in the future is the basis for investments and business growth. The future value of a
dollar is based on the present dollar amount, interest rate and time period involved. Financial
calculators and tables can assist in computing the future and present values, which eases the pain of
the mathematically challenged. Yield or rate of return can also be calculated.
One financial application of the time value of money is buying or selling a house mortgage note.
Although normally handled by financial institutions, individuals can use this as an investment

The MBA graduate will add to this calculation the opportunity cost which D. Henderson points out is
redundant in word use, but an invaluable concept to the financial world. The true cost of something is
what you give up to get it. as contract lawyers and airplane pilots know, redundancy can be a virtue.
In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it
could be used for instead. (2002).
In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price,
the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See
Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the
principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005).
The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs
(41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up
costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the
money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. At a return rate of 8%, if
the buyer had purchased a less expense car at 30,000 and invested 500 per year over 20 years, he
would have 22,881 out

A Jewish Reading of Milton Essay
A Jewish Reading of Milton
John Milton produced some of the most memorable Christian texts in English literature. Central pieces
of Milton s work, including Paradise Lost and Samson Agonistes, specifically allude to stories that
Judaism and Christianity hold in common. Historically, the anti monarchical regime Milton supported,
under the leadership of Cromwell, informally allowed Jews back into England in 1655 after Edward I
exiled them in 1290 (Trepp 151). Additionally, seventeenth century British Christians looked
increasingly to Jewish texts to understand their own religion (e.g. Robert Ainsworth and John Seldon),

Werman concludes from various linguistic inaccuracies in Milton s work that he used the Greek or
newly available Latin translations of all Jewish sources except actual Hebrew Scripture and its
Targum, the Aramaic translation (Werman 30 33). While she concurs with Rosenblatt that halakhic
(legal) information came from fellow Christian Hebraist John Selden, she argues that Milton received
aggadic midrash (non legal commentary and extra biblical legends) from Jewish authors (6). Werman
also marshals considerable evidence of Milton s sharp selectivity with sources. He preferred Josephus
and Philo while dismissing Talmudic midrashim as Pharisaic fables (38 39). Werman even claims that
Milton s acceptance of a particular commentary depended less on its content and more on the source
from which it came, citing examples of Talmudic midrash that Milton accepted because they were
explained in Josephus (39). My topic primarily concerns Milton s incorporation of Jewish subject
matter into his own work, not with the linguistic or physical availability of Hebrew/Aramaic texts, and
since Milton s secondary sources usually provide reliable information, I do not address the source
debate unless problems do arise.
Before exploring Milton s respect for Jewish commentary, however, readers should also appreciate the
limits of this respect within its religious contexts. Some Miltonic agreement with Judaism

Patch Adams Reflection
Patch Adams showcases how holism works and how it benefits the patients mentally and physically.
Holism is tying humanity to the physicality (Kretchmar, 2005) which is the central to Patch s views of
being a doctor and how he practices medicine throughout the film. The way that Patch heals the
patients by using laughter as a part of their treatment illustrates the definition of holism. Patch Adams
demonstrates a holistic approach to his practice by displaying holistic ideas which are that doctors
should connect with their patient on a personal level and the idea of treating the person and the
disease. To understand how Patch Adams exhibits holism, it s important to summarize the movie to
understand Patch s holistic approach. The movie is about Hunter Patch Adams journey in medical
school after he self committed himself to a mental hospital for his suicide attempts. While he was at
the mental hospital, the doctor didn t take the time to truly pay attention to him or give him actual
treatment which inspired him to become a doctor. At medical school, he immediately disagreed on
how the professors were teaching them in terms of just being technical and regarding themselves
about others. He starts visiting the university s hospital even though he isn t allowed because he was a
first year student and starts entertaining the patients. During his mission, the dean of the university
was against his holistic views and tries to expel him but Patch takes him to the court of

Being A Former Marine
As a former Marine, I emerged from the military instilled with a strict sense of discipline and a
numerous amount of unique set of skills that was taught. These skills enable me and other service
members or veterans to be ready at a minute s notice; to know our surroundings, to survive in an
emergency, and to protect those around us, because at any given moment the circumstances may turn
for the worse. It s taught and embedded to respect our superiors and elders, and to perform what s
asked without hesitation. We re built to become leaders too, but when many enter the business world,
everything changes, and often those skills that blood, sweat and tears went into growth and exceling
in; become meaningless in the eyes of our community, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reality is, many veterans and service members find themselves feeling out of place and wondering
why they don t fit in with their peers or coworkers; or why family, friends and loved ones cannot or
will not try to understand them. Realistically, we must face the truth; they never had to deal with our
experience the military life like many of us and they don t know how or where to start a conversation;
lacking the knowledge or they fear they may hear something they didn t want to hear. However, many
think it s beyond their control or out of their reach; when in hindsight, it starts by doing the smallest
things.
There are plenty of obstacles, challenges and problems out there ready to get right in the way of plans,
dreams and goals; there s those that will grow into bigger problems and those that will reduce in size,
if not resolved. Depending on whether, we decide to avoid them or face them head on; which we all
have done at one time or another in our lives and got us to where we re at today. Then there s everyday
life, that throws new complications and encounters at us every day; which is also another thing that
everyone is endlessly faced with, and what we must deal with immediately to survive and overcome;
prior to allowing it grow bigger and get out of control. Those too are obstacles, challenges and
problems that make life fascinating and overcoming them; is what makes life meaningful.

Another Common Environmental Factor That Engineers Are
Another common environmental factor that engineers are concerned with when they consider the
conditions of bridges is wind loads. These are especially a hazard to cable supported bridges because
the system relies on a delicate balance of pressure that holds up the bridge, which can be easily
disturbed under high winds. One example of this is the Tacoma bridge failure in Washington state in
1940. While examining the evidence, engineers found that when the wind hits the body of the bridge,
it creates forces that oscillated the bridge, which caused instability (Gianni and Gazzola). Additionally,
when these bridges were built, the environment they were in was drastically different than it is today.
Although engineers took population increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this was the specific reason for the collapse, the broader problem was inadequacies in state
inspections and the federal government failing to audit the state`s work adequately.
Another reason why designs of bridges fail is because there is not cohesiveness in the theory behind
construction and actual construction. Sometimes construction is either too dependent on theory or
ignorant of it, either way the assumptions made during design and construction are dangerous. This is
shown in the case of the Williamsburg Bridge where:
The rationale justifying the use of non galvanized high strength cable wires on the Williamsburg
Bridge was summarized as follows: If the wires are maintained dry, they do not need zinc coating. If
not, it will not save them in the long term. This reasoning may appear sound, yet it lacks both the
practical knowledge of life cycle cable performance and a theoretical model of wire deterioration.
(Yanev 119)
This gap between theory and practice in directly related to a gap between engineers and management.
Currently, engineers are in control of the design and construction, but the process of this operation is
given to management whose primary concern is cutting production cost. Consequently, necessary
redundancies are lost during construction. Although this eliminates initial cost, it increases future cost
because

The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years
Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and has
become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process and it was a
very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one that could be
rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option makes it not
only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone through foreclosure.
Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get the housing market back
on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a home. Allowing people the
option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants and allows longer time to come
up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or foreclosed on. The less people that are
foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be. Currently the market is great for anyone who is
financially stable to purchase any home that has a foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own
was made more available the people looking for homes, then it would allow them to save more money
until they were financially stable to either buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The
owners who do offer the rent to own option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more
stable financial state, but are making money themselves. If the

Chicago Musical Analysis
Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery...all those things we hold near and dear
to our heart... the worldwide known musical of Chicago; is an American musical set in prohibition era,
the original Broadway production opened in 1975 at the 46th Street Theatre. The musical is based on a
1926 play of the same name by Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she
reported on. The story is a satire on corruption of criminal justice and the concept of the celebrity
criminal. (1) This piece focuses on the writing and creative work of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Ebb
and Bob Fosse. Chicago is placed as the longest running musical revival, as well as the longest
running Broadway musical. The back ground to the piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song was originally performed by Chita Rivera, along with Candy Brown, Cheryl Clark, Graciela
Daniele, Michon Peacock and Pamela Sousa. (4)This play is seen as a vaudeville style because the
characters were performers . However due to my personal opinion of the musical being very high it
received mixed reviews. The Brechtian style of the show has been said to have made audiences
uncomfortable, having dropping the fourth wall. The general consensus states: A rousing and energetic
adaptation of the Broadway musical, Chicago succeeds on the level of pure spectacle, but provides a
surprising level of depth and humour as well , having been performed over 7,800 time and the use and
depth of universal/timeless themes and issues.(5) In 2002 was transformed into the movie industry.
Directed by Rob Marshall, takes great focus in the real life murderesses of the piece Beulah Annan
(Roxie Hart) and Belva Gartner (Velma Kelly). Chicago remains as one of the sassiest, most stylish
musicals on the modern stage. Amanda

Compare And Contrast Natural Vs Anthropogenic Climate Change
Compare and contrast natural versus anthropogenic climate changes. Include at least two (2) specific
examples of each.
Anthropogenic temperature change refers to the assembly of greenhouse gases emitted by human
action. By examining the polar ice cores, scientists are convinced that human action has inflated the
proportion of greenhouse gases within the atmosphere, that has skyrocketed over the past few hundred
years. (Climate Science Investigation, 2018)
The IPCC, Fourth Report discusses in 2007 has multiple lines of proof that confirms that the post
industrial rise in greenhouse gases doesn t stem from natural mechanisms. In other words, the climate
changes are manmade as a results of human action. (Climate Science Investigation, 2018) ... Show

  • 2. The Themed Land Concept Of Parks The Themed Lands Concept All Disney theme parks are designed based on themed lands. In each land, the theme is reflected in the surrounding infrastructure, the appearance of employees, the character of food and other franchises, and the entertainment (Curwen, 1995, p.15). The original Disneyland in California was designed with a land that acts as a throughway to guide guests to the castle, Main Street, USA. From the castle, the other themed lands jut out like spokes of a wheel with the castle being the main focal point of the theme park. The Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland all follow the same original layout of the park in California. Most of the theme parks across the world include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Main Street, USA represents a time of a wholesome America to many guests and while walking down Main Street, USA, they feel a sense nostalgia. For this reason, the moment guests step into a Disney theme park, America thus becomes the dominant narrative of the park, with the majority of its lands devoted to telling the stories of American history (Philips, 2002, p.34). Although this land does not host any attractions, it does have shops and eateries for guests to stop by on their way to and from the castle and the rest of the theme park. Although Tokyo Disneyland claims to be a replica of Disneyland in California, there are a lot of differences between the two theme parks. When building the theme park, the Oriental Land Company modified a few themed lands and attractions so that themes nostalgic for Americans but meaningless for the Japanese have been renamed and recontextualized to capture the attention of the new clientele (Brannen, 1992, p. 221). Main Street, USA is renamed to the World Bazaar at Tokyo Disneyland and keeps the quasi Victorian architecture of the buildings , but hints of Art Deco façade are added to the buildings in Tokyo (Brannen, 1992, p.222; Marling, 1997). The renaming of the land does not change the theming of the land being inherently American. The idea of Main Street is a concept used by American towns to describe their main thoroughfare. Socially Responsible Design Essay Socially responsible Design Understanding how to design for the people Despite marketing forces, design can overcome the barriers/external forces in order to maintain its integrity and to practice responsibly/ethically. What is it to be socially responsible? Social responsibility is the idea that designers and businesses should accept their social responsibilities and not be exclusively focused on maximizing profits. Social responsibility demands developing businesses to create a positive relationship to the society or market that they operate in. In the 1960s, the ecological movement in the United States drew attention to large environmental issues such as high levels of pollution and the depletion of the world s resources. Designers were pressed to find a greater range of implications of their actions in terms of societies in the future. This concept later lead to an upsurge of Green Design and eco design due to an increased interest from businesses and consumers. Green Design aims at environmental issues as recycling, energy efficiency or design for durability. Eco design takes a product s life cycle into account, from material extraction through to its eventual disposal; along side this, designers should attempt to link environmental issues with the social and economic factors related to quality of life, this is also know as Sustainable Design . Eco design projects have developed environmentally friendly packaging, redesigned textile ranges and changed manufacturing processes. Many citizens have become far more liberal than others, but it has become widely apparent that strong cultural differences are still a point of debate. • 5. Genetic Disorder And Genetic Disorders A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by missing or abnormalities in the chromosomes of a human. Finding out if an offspring has a genetic disorder can be determined by using basic genetics. The Punnett Square, a diagram used to predict the results of a crossing or breeding of two species, can determine the outcome of an offspring by using the genotypes of both parents. Pairing the genotypes of both parents together can show the four different genotypes of offspring, two being female, and the other two male. By using this method, parents can predict the probability of their child having a genetic disease. Since most genetic disorders are recessive, if both parents have or are carriers of a genetic disorder, the probability of their offspring having the disorder can range from twenty five to one hundred percent. Sickle Cell is a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells, causing them to become sickle, or misshapen. This makes the hemoglobin in the red blood cell not able to move oxygen throughout the body causing severe pain. Sickle Cell is genetic due to a person inheriting affected genes from their parents, and both parents have to be carriers because the disorder is homozygous recessive. With two carrier parents, the child has a twenty five percent chance of being unaffected, fifty percent chance of being a carrier, and a twenty five percent chance of having Sickle Cell. • 6. The Superiority Theory Of Humor There are many ways that people use humor. It has been used both in positive and negative ways. The negative, or more aggressive, view of humor is evident in ancient writings and in the merciless teasing that children inflict on one another. , However, in modern times, humor is now commonly seen as a positive aspect and that the laughter that arises is the expression [an] incongruity. Because of these two conflicting view of humor, there have been multiple theories proposed to explain it. There are two major theories in explaining humor. The first is the superiority theory. In line with the past views on humor, the superiority theory takes on a much more negative, serious, and intense take on how humor functions and why we laugh. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory focuses more specifically on the cognition and [gives] less attention to the social and emotional aspects of humor. The incongruity resolution theory can be applied to many forms of humor. One example is visual incongruities. We laugh when we see a young child try to act like an adult around an even younger child. The incongruity is we expect the young child to still act immaturely around the small child but does not. The resolution is that the young child is playing make believe or somehow trying to impress the younger child. The second type of incongruity is through wordplay. Prime examples are puns. For example, George Carlin said, Atheism is a non prophet institution. The incongruity is found in the meaning of non prophet and nonprofit. Atheism is known as the lack of belief or denial of a higher being/God/religion. So, non prophet relates to the meaning of atheism. However, non prophet also sounds a lot like nonprofit. In the pun, atheism is called an institution. Based off how prophet and profit sound the same, atheism could also be considered a nonprofit institution. It is, in the pun, both an institution that does not believe in God and an institution whose primary goal is not to make money. Extra security and stability is needed. Resetting a mainframe should not happen as often as a personal computer. This is because a mainframe will affect hundreds to thousands of users. The mainframe supports many users. Multiple processors are needed to handle the extra load that mainframes receive. Multiple processors are the standard for mainframes while it is only an option for personal computers. This helps the mainframe s stability because a backup processor can be used in case of a failure. This is also what makes the operating system more complex then the personal computer. Stability is expected for the mainframe more than a personal computer. The mainframe is also expected to run 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This is why stability is so important with the mainframe. The mainframe does not stop working when everyone goes home. The cost of the mainframe encourages the users to use it as much as possible. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain Pain is a complex, unpleasant, and disruptive sensation. The day to day pain people experience from a paper cut or a flu shot results from the activation of nociceptive receptors at the site of tissue injury, which is known as nociceptive pain. Some individuals also have experience with a different type of pain, one that is chronic, intractable, disabling, and it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system (Treede, 2008). This form of pain is neuropathic pain. The term neuropathic pain is loosely used in the literature without a well defined classification system and it broadly represents any syndromes with an underlying physiologic damage to the pain transmission pathway (Treede, 2008). The causes of nerve tissue damage in neuropathic pain, whether peripherally or central, are widespread. They range from nerve destruction during surgery or trauma to metabolic disturbances, cancer, infectious diseases and other causes (Woolf, 1999). Common symptoms suggestive of neuropathic pain are spontaneous or provoked sensory abnormalities such as dysesthesia, paresthesia, allodynia, as well as complete sensory deficit in some cases. A few types of neuropathic pain with manifestations in the head and neck region are trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post herpetic neuralgia and atypical facial pain. Born December 9, 1977 in Essex, Imogen Heap for the most part is self taught and is a huge success. Imogen defied the unwritten rule of solo acts by instead of making a name for herself in a group then leaving to do their own thing, Imogen did the opposite. She was born in the rural part of Essex to a businessman and a future art therapist. 12 years after Imogen was born, her parents divorced. At the young age of 13, Heap could already play piano, cello, and clarinet. She attended the Quaker Friends School and there she self taught herself how to produce music on Atari computers after she could not get along with her music teacher. Religions tend to spread within a society and then die back down. However, there are still people amongst us who believe or may even still practice archaic religions. Some religions date back to 700 A.D such as Christianity and paganism. Over the course of hundreds of years both religions have evolved. Throughout different works of literature, people are able to understand the original aspects of these different religions. Due to the construction of this Beowulf, students and professors are able to study and get a true understanding of a pagans demeanor and how life evolves through their eyes. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf, paganism is exemplified as this epic hero falls victim to fate while embarking on his journey through life fighting monsters and chasing after his fame. To begin with, Beowulf was composed in Old English by an anonymous writer between the sixth and seventh century, and it is known for portraying the emergence of the Anglo Saxons and their way of life. Adams David Leeming, author of The Anglo Saxons 449 1066 , stated that the island of Great Britain, secluded from the European continent, seemed perfect for the birth of legends, poets, and the belief in elves due to its rain drenched and almost always fogged weather. • 13. Protein Synthesis and Transcription Beadle and Tatum s experiment and their one gene one enzyme hypothesis showed that the production of one protein is dependent on one gene. Francis Crick originated the idea of the central dogma. It states that biological information can only flow in one direction: from DNA to RNA to a protein. The three key types of RNA that are involved in protein synthesis are mRNA (messenger RNA), rRNA (ribosomal RNA) and tRNA (transfer RNA). The way I learned to remember the functions of these three is the same way it s shown on the estrellamountain website. mRNA is like the blueprint of a construction site with its copy of the genetic information of DNA, rRNA is like the construction site where the protein is made, and tRNA is like the delivery truck that brings amino acids to where they need to be at the right time. Transcription is when RNA is formed by using an enzyme called RNA polymerase to copy a strand of DNA. Before it can begin, a protein called a transcription factor has to bind to the promoter (a region in the DNA that identifies where a gene starts, where it s supposed to be copied, and in what direction). Then, the polymerase binds to these two things (promoter transcription factor) before it unwinds the template strand of DNA between the promoter and the terminator. The RNA polymerase copies the template strand of DNA by matching the original nucleotides with their complementary base pairs the only difference is that instead of adenine being matched with thymine, ... However, when I went to Stivers School for the Arts things got even better I felt more prepared. This year I m back at Stivers and so far everything has been good, and I really enjoy working with my cooperating teacher. This year will be a test of my endurance and capabilities. I am up to the challenge to work with students who are linguistically diverse, even though I know it might be difficult at times. Studying Spanish for six years half in high school and college have given me an idea of how disorienting it is to not understand the language. Crime is not easy to completely remove from our society. Society may never really know all the causes of this criminal behavior. With all the disagreement going on with the subject on the causes of criminals , the controversial question would be Are criminals born, or made? There are two different categories that punishment can fall under: presentation punishment and removal punishment. Presentation punishment involves introducing a new and unpleasant stimulus. Removal punishment involves removing a wanted stimulus. Punishment in educational settings has been a particularly controversial subject, since many people view punishment as something barbaric or cruel. Also, if administered incorrectly punishment can have adverse effects. There are times when reinforcement would not suffice and punishment may be deemed necessary. Particularly when the bad behavior has no known reinforcement and no other method has worked. When dealing out punishment it is important to determine which type would be most effective and fair. Punishments that have proven effective to some degree are: scolding, response cost, logical consequence, positive practice overcorrection, time out, and in school suspension. There are also punishments that are not affective or that actually end up having adverse effects. These include: physical punishment, psychological punishment, extra classwork, and out of school suspension. In particular, out of school suspension can be very bad and unfair for students. This is particularly true for students who already have academic problems. It should always be made clear what behaviors could result in punishment. This alone could be ... The Union County Scrivener who seems to have worked entirely in what is today Snyder County, The Spigelmeyer Artist, and The Augusta Township Artist are just a few that fall into this latter category. While both these men had very different views and ideas, they also shared similarities. Part of the reason for their different views was because one was in the South and the other was in the North. Martin saw a Dream that could be fulfilled in the South and Malcolm saw a Nightmare, which would never end in the North. Martin and Malcolm were raised in very different homes. Malcolm grew up in Lansing, Michigan, where schools were integrated. At his junior high school, Malcolm frequently heard the words, Nigger , coon , darkie , and Rastus. He heard these epithets so often they ceased to be insulting; he thought of them as actual names. 1 The name calling was not the worst of it though. One of the most devastating moments for Malcolm was when he was in the eighth grade. He told his English teacher that he wanted to be a lawyer when he grew up. His teacher s response was that a better career for him might be carpentry. This of course was very insulting and was the main reason why he left school. Although Martin never had to grow up in the integrated North, he did have to go to school in the segregated schools of Montgomery. Martin s experiences with white people when he was young were not bad. He even had a white friend whom he played with until he entered school. After he entered school he, which was all black, he did not have the same kind of exposure to white people as he had had before. It did not really seem to effect Martin that much until the day the parents of his white friend said that he could no longer play with their son. They told Martin the ... It was a time of uprisings and conflicts, of liberal thought and confrontation and the winds of change swept away everyone and everything, from monarchies and governments to French farmers and salon owners. A new way of thinking and looking at the world was proposed; the shift revealed itself in the works of new artistic masters who broke out onto the scene, shocking the critics and the public (mostly bourgeois, old masters, and nobles) with their new styles that approached art in a way that challenged all traditions. Market wide problems: • High interest rates – After the 1973 oil crisis and the 1979 energy crisis, the US economy was affected by stagflation. In an effort to fight excessive inflation, the Fed adopted a tight monetary policy, raising interest rates (as an illustration, the federal funds rate increased from 11% in 1979 to 20% by June 1981). This affected all players as it led to a plunge of stock market prices, on the one hand, and an economic recession, on the other. Finally, cross default provisions substantially increased Massey s default risk. If any single default ocurred, all short and long term debt would become callable, leaving the company with no choice but to stop operations and use its assets to pay off lenders. • Inability to further finance its operations – While Massey needed new funds even to be able to honour its commitments, its extremely high leverage and the numerous covenants on its existing loans impeded it from raising new debt, or equity for that matter. Its 1980 initiative to issue preferred shares was indefinitely postponed when its largest shareholder refused to take a block of the preferreds as a vote of confidence. • Currency risk – In 1980, 76.7% of Massey s engine production was concentrated in the UK. However, its UK Perkins subsidiary exported more than 86% of its products. As a consequence, when the pound rose in 1980, it increased Massey s cost of goods sold disproportionate to its revenue, reducing margins. • Operating costs of financial distress – Doubts about the future of the company weakened Massey s distribution network. Canada also makes a great tourist destination. It is surprising that even though it borders the United States, it is still a completely separate country. Canada was discovered by the Viking Leif Erikson in the year one thousand. After exploring Greenland, he discovered Newfoundland, an island off the main Canadian coast. Later, in the 1540s, the French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence River that cuts through Canada. This exploration expanded until Cartier had established French control over Canada. However, England also claimed parts of Canada for itself. Throughout the sixteenth to seventeenth centuries, France and England contiuned to take Canadian territory for themselves. The French and Indian War, which ended in 1763, forced the French to give up their territory to England. The British wanted to avoid rebellion, so they divided Canada into upper and lower Canada, the upper being more English and the lower being more French. In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it could be used for instead. (2002). In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price, the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005). The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs (41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. Historically, the anti monarchical regime Milton supported, under the leadership of Cromwell, informally allowed Jews back into England in 1655 after Edward I exiled them in 1290 (Trepp 151). Werman concludes from various linguistic inaccuracies in Milton s work that he used the Greek or newly available Latin translations of all Jewish sources except actual Hebrew Scripture and its Targum, the Aramaic translation (Werman 30 33). While she concurs with Rosenblatt that halakhic (legal) information came from fellow Christian Hebraist John Selden, she argues that Milton received aggadic midrash (non legal commentary and extra biblical legends) from Jewish authors (6). Werman also marshals considerable evidence of Milton s sharp selectivity with sources. He preferred Josephus and Philo while dismissing Talmudic midrashim as Pharisaic fables (38 39). Werman even claims that Milton s acceptance of a particular commentary depended less on its content and more on the source from which it came, citing examples of Talmudic midrash that Milton accepted because they were explained in Josephus (39). My topic primarily concerns Milton s incorporation of Jewish subject matter into his own work, not with the linguistic or physical availability of Hebrew/Aramaic texts, and since Milton s secondary sources usually provide reliable information, I do not address the source debate unless problems do arise. Patch Adams demonstrates a holistic approach to his practice by displaying holistic ideas which are that doctors should connect with their patient on a personal level and the idea of treating the person and the disease. To understand how Patch Adams exhibits holism, it s important to summarize the movie to understand Patch s holistic approach. The movie is about Hunter Patch Adams journey in medical school after he self committed himself to a mental hospital for his suicide attempts. While he was at the mental hospital, the doctor didn t take the time to truly pay attention to him or give him actual treatment which inspired him to become a doctor. At medical school, he immediately disagreed on how the professors were teaching them in terms of just being technical and regarding themselves about others. He starts visiting the university s hospital even though he isn t allowed because he was a first year student and starts entertaining the patients. During his mission, the dean of the university was against his holistic views and tries to expel him but Patch takes him to the court of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Being A Former Marine As a former Marine, I emerged from the military instilled with a strict sense of discipline and a numerous amount of unique set of skills that was taught. These skills enable me and other service members or veterans to be ready at a minute s notice; to know our surroundings, to survive in an emergency, and to protect those around us, because at any given moment the circumstances may turn for the worse. It s taught and embedded to respect our superiors and elders, and to perform what s asked without hesitation. We re built to become leaders too, but when many enter the business world, everything changes, and often those skills that blood, sweat and tears went into growth and exceling in; become meaningless in the eyes of our community, ... Reality is, many veterans and service members find themselves feeling out of place and wondering why they don t fit in with their peers or coworkers; or why family, friends and loved ones cannot or will not try to understand them. Realistically, we must face the truth; they never had to deal with our experience the military life like many of us and they don t know how or where to start a conversation; lacking the knowledge or they fear they may hear something they didn t want to hear. However, many think it s beyond their control or out of their reach; when in hindsight, it starts by doing the smallest things. There are plenty of obstacles, challenges and problems out there ready to get right in the way of plans, dreams and goals; there s those that will grow into bigger problems and those that will reduce in size, if not resolved. Depending on whether, we decide to avoid them or face them head on; which we all have done at one time or another in our lives and got us to where we re at today. Then there s everyday life, that throws new complications and encounters at us every day; which is also another thing that everyone is endlessly faced with, and what we must deal with immediately to survive and overcome; prior to allowing it grow bigger and get out of control. Those too are obstacles, challenges and problems that make life fascinating and overcoming them; is what makes life meaningful. So, when we find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Another Common Environmental Factor That Engineers Are Another common environmental factor that engineers are concerned with when they consider the conditions of bridges is wind loads. These are especially a hazard to cable supported bridges because the system relies on a delicate balance of pressure that holds up the bridge, which can be easily disturbed under high winds. One example of this is the Tacoma bridge failure in Washington state in 1940. While examining the evidence, engineers found that when the wind hits the body of the bridge, it creates forces that oscillated the bridge, which caused instability (Gianni and Gazzola). Additionally, when these bridges were built, the environment they were in was drastically different than it is today. Although engineers took population increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this was the specific reason for the collapse, the broader problem was inadequacies in state inspections and the federal government failing to audit the state`s work adequately. Another reason why designs of bridges fail is because there is not cohesiveness in the theory behind construction and actual construction. Sometimes construction is either too dependent on theory or ignorant of it, either way the assumptions made during design and construction are dangerous. This is shown in the case of the Williamsburg Bridge where: The rationale justifying the use of non galvanized high strength cable wires on the Williamsburg Bridge was summarized as follows: If the wires are maintained dry, they do not need zinc coating. If not, it will not save them in the long term. This reasoning may appear sound, yet it lacks both the practical knowledge of life cycle cable performance and a theoretical model of wire deterioration. (Yanev 119) This gap between theory and practice in directly related to a gap between engineers and management. Currently, engineers are in control of the design and construction, but the process of this operation is given to management whose primary concern is cutting production cost. Consequently, necessary redundancies are lost during construction. Although this eliminates initial cost, it increases future cost because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and has become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process and it was a very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one that could be rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option makes it not only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone through foreclosure. Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get the housing market back on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a home. Allowing people the option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants and allows longer time to come up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or foreclosed on. The less people that are foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be. Currently the market is great for anyone who is financially stable to purchase any home that has a foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own was made more available the people looking for homes, then it would allow them to save more money until they were financially stable to either buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The owners who do offer the rent to own option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more stable financial state, but are making money themselves. If the ... The Brechtian style of the show has been said to have made audiences uncomfortable, having dropping the fourth wall. Anthropogenic temperature change refers to the assembly of greenhouse gases emitted by human action. By examining the polar ice cores, scientists are convinced that human action has inflated the proportion of greenhouse gases within the atmosphere, that has skyrocketed over the past few hundred years. (Climate Science Investigation, 2018) The IPCC, Fourth Report discusses in 2007 has multiple lines of proof that confirms that the post industrial rise in greenhouse gases doesn t stem from natural mechanisms. In other words, the climate changes are manmade as a results of human action. (Climate Science Investigation, 2018) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
