This is the second round of Don Quizzote 3.0 conducted by yours truly. Don Quizzote is the flagship quizzing extravaganza of Team RenQuizza, Jorhat, Assam which is conducted in irregular intervals due to the organisers' incapability to have any command on the financial whims of an event like the Don. The Don has mostly been organised without any serious sponsor and has managed to acquire a cult status among Assam Quizzing.

9. Question 3: Name and funda?
This is a picture (on next slide) of a monument in Jaisalmer. It is
known for both, pyramid and dome style architecture . The picture
shown is a memorial statute for a king who died in a battle. The
sculptures next to him of 2+6 women are of those who had to
commit Jauhar. The two and six are separately carved.
These Hindu kings were definitely egalitarian in their association
of 'honour' with women. All of them had to jump into fire if a man
fails in a war. There are several such memorials of 'glory' here.
The per person ticket to this place is Rs 40 which goes to the
private trust of the Royalty.

18. The Kuleshov experiment.
In the early 20th century, Russian filmmaker and theorist Lev
Kuleshov discovered that a single shot of an actor with an
ambiguous expression on his face could convey a multitude of
very distinct meanings in the mind of the viewer, depending on
the nature of the shot immediately preceding it.
In 1918 he conducted his famous experiment using a single shot of
the silent film actor Ivan Mozzhukhin’s face looking at something
off-camera.
Kuleshov spliced it in with a series of quite different images–a
bowl of soup, a dead child, a scantily clad woman and discovered
that the audience would interpret Mozzhukhin’s emotion (hunger,
pity, lust) depending on the juxtaposition.

22. Question 7: Solve the variables.
X is an extraordinary women’s movement formed in
2006 by Y in Z. This region is one of the poorest districts
in the country and is marked by a deeply patriarchal
culture, rigid caste divisions, female illiteracy, domestic
violence against women, child labour, child marriages
and dowry demands. The women’s group is popularly
known as ______ because of their dress and that they
wield bamboo sticks. Y says, “We are not a _______ in
the usual sense of the term, we are a _______ for justice.”
25. Question 8: Who?
While studying in Emanuel College in Cambridge, X
was bound apprentice to Mr. James Bates, an eminent
surgeon in London, with whom he (X) continued for
four years. Mr. Bates recommended X to be surgeon to
the ‘Swallow’, commanded by Captain Abraham
Pannell. X continued there for three years and a half,
making a voyage or two into the Levant, and some other
parts. Upon coming back, X resolved to settle in London,
took part of a small house in the Old Jewry and married
Mrs. Mary Burton, second daughter to Mr. Edmund
Burton.
28. Question 9: Who on what?
X on a 1980 interview on Y:
"Right. I'll show you the original picture of Y, which is actually four
pieces of plastic. Y is a conceptual ____. There is no Y. It's just an idea.
“The first ad for Y consisted of a page out of the English telephone book
– it happened to be the Joneses. I said to someone, "Get me a page from
the book," and I was handed the Joneses. The ad had the page from the
telephone book and said, "You are Y."
“So we are Y, and the audience is Y. There is no Y.
. . . .
“The press took pictures and they all discussed Y. There were the usual
questions: "What does it mean?" and especially, "How dare they?" But it
was in the papers nonetheless. It got across.
“And that's Y. You're in it. Everybody's in it.”
