Job Description:
The Senior Technical Advisor, Laboratory Support, is a senior technical position
responsible for managing all laboratory strengthening activities of NTCPP.
The incumbent will provide technical support to NTP and implementing partners on
developing or updating lab strategy, and will take the lead on planning and
implementing activities to improve quality and performance of lab services. The
incumbent will work under the supervision and guidance of the Team Leader of the
NTCPP.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as project lead on implementation of activities to strengthen and improve
management and quality of lab services, which includes coordinating directly
with the National TB Control Program NTP), WHO, NGO partners and other
stakeholders to identify program priorities and develop implementation
strategies;
Assist in the introduction of new TB and MDR TB diagnostic technologies;
Develop and implement master trainers training programs covering new
technologies;
Work in teams to develop TB CARE II Bangladesh annual work plan, focusing on
identifying and incorporating appropriate lab related activities consistent with
project objectives and aligned with national program needs;
Assist the project to identify, plan and provide TA to expand culture and DST
services through National and Regional Reference Laboratories;
Support lab procurement activities, especially GeneXpert, LED microscopy, and
other related procurement, and coordinate training, workshops, etc related to
lab materials and procurements;
Assess and provide TA support to National and Regional Reference Laboratories
(RRLs) and smear
microscopy facilities to improve their capacity and quality in providing diagnosis
services for TB and MDR-TB;
Provide technical direction and support to NTP and sub-recipient NGO partners
in planning and implementing lab support activities including quality assurance
of sputum collection, processing, transportation, and testing;
Assist NTP and other collaborating partners on developing training strategies and
materials, and facilitate planning and conducting TOT and training of lab/health
care staff on lab management including AFB Microscopy, Florescence
Microscopy, TB culture (both liquid and solid), Drug Sensitivity Testing (DST)
(both liquid and solid) procedures;
Provide TA to strengthen and improve EQA and expand EQA coverage as
needed;
Take lead in developing infection control plans for lab including lab waste
management and assist NTP and NGO partners to implement IC plan at the
facilities;
Provide TA to improve recording, reporting and data analysis of diagnostic
services;
Provide technical support in developing systems, tools, job aids, IEC materials as
required for improving diagnosis of TB/MDR-TB, infection prevention,
monitoring and supervision;
Monitor implementation of planned activities through periodic consultations,
monthly progress review meetings, reports review, and field trips. Provide
written feedback for improving performance.
Monitor project deliverables and timeliness, notify the Team Leader when issues
arise, and take corrective actions, as needed;
Assist the Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader in developing quarterly and
semi-annual reports, and tracking budgets and expenditures

for about 3 years with a one year experience in microbiology laboratory

 Research contribution in Lower Respiratory Fungal infections among
patients living with HIV in Sudan, supervised by Professor Elshiekh
Mahgoub.
 Co-author of; Candidiasis chapter in conjunction with Professor Elshiekh in
the book of Tropical Diseases in Sudan under publishing at 2013.
 Waste management and laundry in hospitals –scientific paper as part of
infection control activities at the level of the Khartoum state.
 Provided Training in Theater room infection prevention and control for
doctors and technicians.
 Provided Training on patient safety and occupational health in health care
facilities.
 Provided training in Infection prevention and control with 15 CME
accredited.
 Provided training in Medical Bacteriology methods and procedures,
Virology serological diagnosis, Mycology methods and procedures in
ophthalmology fungal infections.
 Provided training in Malaria diagnosis.
 MERS CoV training for physicians and nurses infection prevention and
control, case definition, laboratory diagnosis, and management.
Training Process:
 Special course in microbiology theory and introduction to practical was
received, part one “A” examination after the course on June 2008 with
success.
 Extensive and specific training in BACTERIOLOGY lab. For 2 years
collectively, performing processing samples and interpretation of results
and identification (conventional methods and new advanced techniques) in
National Public Health Laboratory Bacteriology Dept.
 Well trained in Mycobacteriology laboratory diagnosis, direct smear
testing by ZN, Kenyon, and Auramine staining techniques. Culture and
sensitivity manual and automated techniques. PCR testing and sequencing
laboratory supervision.
 Training in VIROLOGY in National Health Laboratory in ELISA, trained on
fluorescence techniques sample preparation, reading slides and
interpretation for different respiratory viruses and ARBO viruses including
Yellow fever for more than 5 months.
 Tissue culture training in polio WHO sponsored lab in Sudan for 2 months
performing culture on RD and L20B cell lines for polio virus according to
WHO guidelines. To monitor preservation of cell lines in liquid N2 and to
utilize viral media and maintenance media and perform proper measures
to prevent contamination. To perform viral neutralizing tests to confirm
the serotype of poli 1,2, 3. Viral media preparation process supervising and
performing. Training on Virology structure, setup, and management.
Reading confluence of well grown monolayer cell line growth, and
interpreting positive CPE for viral replication in cell lines. Monitoring and
supervising deferent dilution methods for maintain cell line monolayer
confluence. Familiar with methods of preservation of cell lines from growth
to preservation in cryo-tubes in liquid N2.
 Concentrated training in PARASITOLOGY lab for 5 months received training
in malaria diagnosis, leishmania and helminthes and clinical training in
medical Entomolgy.
 Training in MEDICAL MYCOLOGY department at University of Khartoum,
taking samples processing direct examination from patients with several
mycosis (skin scrapings, hair nail, aspirates and swabs from patients with
mycetoma, sputum cultures and identification processes) during the period
February 2009 to July 2009. Interpretation of results and providing
counseling service for treating doctors.
 Training in Bacteriology clinical laboratory at Khartoum Teaching Hospital
and was responsible of performing identification techniques and
interpretation of results of systemic bacteriology samples over a period of
6 months. Consulted by clinicians in appropriate sampling techniques.
Proposed an infection control set up and regular meeting attendance of
the infection control committee.
 Training in private sectors, as a tutor in two private collages (6 and 3
months), performing different tests, stain preparation and tutorials as a
part of the scheduled training.
 Received several practical courses collectively in flow cytometer, PCR,
automated blood culture systems, MIGT for extra pulmonary tuberculosis,
sequencing and multiple ELISA and rapid tests, research methodology &
biomedical statistics crash course, in AlFayoum University Egypt fully

Job Description: The Senior Technical Advisor, Laboratory Support, is a senior technical position responsible for managing all laboratory strengthening activities of NTCPP.
  • 2. The incumbent will provide technical support to NTP and implementing partners on developing or updating lab strategy, and will take the lead on planning and implementing activities to improve quality and performance of lab services. The incumbent will work under the supervision and guidance of the Team Leader of the NTCPP. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as project lead on implementation of activities to strengthen and improve management and quality of lab services, which includes coordinating directly with the National TB Control Program NTP), WHO, NGO partners and other stakeholders to identify program priorities and develop implementation strategies; Assist in the introduction of new TB and MDR TB diagnostic technologies; Develop and implement master trainers training programs covering new technologies; Work in teams to develop TB CARE II Bangladesh annual work plan, focusing on identifying and incorporating appropriate lab related activities consistent with project objectives and aligned with national program needs; Assist the project to identify, plan and provide TA to expand culture and DST services through National and Regional Reference Laboratories; Support lab procurement activities, especially GeneXpert, LED microscopy, and other related procurement, and coordinate training, workshops, etc related to lab materials and procurements; Assess and provide TA support to National and Regional Reference Laboratories (RRLs) and smear microscopy facilities to improve their capacity and quality in providing diagnosis services for TB and MDR-TB; Provide technical direction and support to NTP and sub-recipient NGO partners in planning and implementing lab support activities including quality assurance of sputum collection, processing, transportation, and testing; Assist NTP and other collaborating partners on developing training strategies and materials, and facilitate planning and conducting TOT and training of lab/health care staff on lab management including AFB Microscopy, Florescence Microscopy, TB culture (both liquid and solid), Drug Sensitivity Testing (DST) (both liquid and solid) procedures; Provide TA to strengthen and improve EQA and expand EQA coverage as needed; Take lead in developing infection control plans for lab including lab waste management and assist NTP and NGO partners to implement IC plan at the facilities; Provide TA to improve recording, reporting and data analysis of diagnostic services;

Provide technical support in developing systems, tools, job aids, IEC materials as required for improving diagnosis of TB/MDR-TB, infection prevention, monitoring and supervision; Monitor implementation of planned activities through periodic consultations, monthly progress review meetings, reports review, and field trips. Provide written feedback for improving performance. Monitor project deliverables and timeliness, notify the Team Leader when issues arise, and take corrective actions, as needed; Assist the Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader in developing quarterly and semi-annual reports, and tracking budgets and expenditures Educational Process:  Prometric pass Saudi commission December 2014  HAAD pass AGD88873 April 2014  Had IELTS certificate with overall score of 6.5 in April 2010 and 8 score in speaking.  Medical doctorate (MD) - Microbiology Clinical MD fromSudan Medical Specializations Board. To monitor preservation of cell lines in liquid N2 and to utilize viral media and maintenance media and perform proper measures to prevent contamination. To perform viral neutralizing tests to confirm the serotype of poli 1,2, 3. Viral media preparation process supervising and performing. Training on Virology structure, setup, and management. Reading confluence of well grown monolayer cell line growth, and interpreting positive CPE for viral replication in cell lines. Monitoring and supervising deferent dilution methods for maintain cell line monolayer confluence. Familiar with methods of preservation of cell lines from growth to preservation in cryo-tubes in liquid N2.
  • 5.  Concentrated training in PARASITOLOGY lab for 5 months received training in malaria diagnosis, leishmania and helminthes and clinical training in medical Entomolgy.  Training in MEDICAL MYCOLOGY department at University of Khartoum, taking samples processing direct examination from patients with several mycosis (skin scrapings, hair nail, aspirates and swabs from patients with mycetoma, sputum cultures and identification processes) during the period February 2009 to July 2009. Interpretation of results and providing counseling service for treating doctors.  Training in Bacteriology clinical laboratory at Khartoum Teaching Hospital and was responsible of performing identification techniques and interpretation of results of systemic bacteriology samples over a period of 6 months.
