HIV Came with Harsh Stereotypes and Discrimination for...
During the 1980s and 1990s the new HIV disease began to emerge in society and with it came harsh
stereotypes and discrimination against those who contracted it. Simultaneously, one of the most
talented and influential point guards in basketball was dominating the sport: Earvin Magic Johnson.
Throughout his career Johnson gained three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was admitted
into the Basketball Hall of Fame ( Magic Johnson ). However, on November 7, 1991, Johnson
announced his diagnosis of HIV and his retirement from the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Following this abrupt and unexpected event, Johnson became one of the leading figures in the fight
against AIDS. The Magic Johnson Foundation was founded and is still dedicated to educating
communities about AIDS. The charitable and influential work Johnson contributed to the research of
AIDS revealed him as not just an extraordinary basketball player but also as an extraordinary human
being ( Magic Johnson ). A few years after Johnson s diagnosis, he released his autobiography, My
Life. My Life describes the childhood and competitive basketball years of Johnson as well as his
announcement of contracting HIV. In the article, New and Noteworthy Paperbacks , by Laurel
Graeber, reviewer Harvey Araton describes Magic Johnson s autobiography, My Life, as best when he
shares his insights about his coaches and fellow players (Graeber). The article has positive things to
say about Johnson s autobiography such

Analysis Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
Theodore Roethke s poem, My Papa s Waltz has spurred passionate academic debates among
professors, scholars, and students; the imagery, context, and diction of the poem clearly supports the
interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz reflecting on his relationship with his father. A
relationship in which, notably, causes harm to the author. However, through all the nights Roethke
spent in pain and in horror, his love for his father still exists. While many people believe that the
author tells a lovely story of a fond memory with his father, it is not possible that the use of negative
imagery and negative diction does not play a role in the story told. My Papa s Waltz tells the story of a
small boy who is abused by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the negative imagery in My Papa s Waltz strengthens the interpretation that the poem is
about abuse. Throughout the entire poem the author noticeably creates multiple negative images.
Roethke mentions how he hung on like death and how his father held [his] wrist not his hand. From
these two lines we can already see how Roethke is in some kind of danger or trouble, for he hung on
like death which serves to explain how he barely survived he had much trouble staying on. His father
also does not hold his hand; he holds his wrist, as if he were getting his son in trouble. If his father
would to waltz, as in dance with his son, he would hold him by the hand not the wrist. Further,
Roethke mentions his mother whose countenance could not unfrown itself. Many argue the author
implies that his mother frowns at the sight of the pans falling in the kitchen. Analyzing closely, one
can conclude that it is unreasonable for a mother to just frown and watch her pans fall logically, she
would react in some other form by trying to stop it. Since the author does not mention any movement,
it is reasonable to believe that the mother just stands there with a frown because her eyes come across
a horrific image that she freezes in fear and can only frown upon this sight. Roethke s father hurts and
attacks his son in some form and Roethke tried to fight back and

Lots of companies can prevent frauds from happening; unfortunately some companies do not know
when to detect frauds. By maintaining some approaches we can reach our goal of being fraud free.
The first approach, is by finding the fraud before claims are paid, that happened by combining
business rules, predictive analytics and social network analysis to uncover hidden relationships. We
can also detect frauds by reducing false positives, with an advanced scoring engine that uses
independent and combined scores including scoring of associated networks. We also have a quickly

Taking a Look at Marfan Syndrome
Marfan Syndrome, which is named after Antoine Marfan who first described the disorder in 1896, is a
genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues found throughout the body. This syndrome can
affect many different parts of the body, but the most commonly affected are the heart, blood vessels,
bones, joints, respiratory system, nervous system, and eyes. Thankfully, a person s intelligence is
never affected. Marfan syndrome affects people from all races and ethnic backgrounds, and this often
makes it hard to detect. It is a pretty rare genetic disorder affecting only about 1 in every 5,000 people.
This syndrome is from a mutation of a gene on chromosome 15 and this causes problems in the
production of fibrillin 1 which is a protein that is an important part of connective tissue. The name for
the gene is FBN1. Basically, it is the glue that helps to support the tissues in the human body. A child
born to a parent with this syndrome has a 50% of having it. However, in the remaining 25%, neither
parent has the disease which gives them a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a child with this disorder.
When a child of two unaffected parents is born with it then the genetic mutation occurs in either the
egg or sperm cell at the time of conception.
The defect of this glue leads to phenotypes such as a thin, lanky build, flexible joints, sunken eyes, a
chest that is sunken in or bulges out, curvature of the spine to one side (scoliosis), and flat feet. There

Fall Of Communism In Eastern Europe
Karl Marx came up with the idea of communism. Communism is a political system in which everyone
is equal, it is characterised by the absence of social class and money, and the state. The main reason
for the fall of communism (1989) in Eastern Europe would be due to its wide ethnicity, and due to the
people with in the countries not accepting one another. Eastern Europe is made of 21 countries, each
having a different culture. Some of these countries are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Poland,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo, Ukraine and Serbia. Most of these countries
have a different language and religion. Bosnia is located in South Eastern Europe, and classified as an
Islamic nation with having its own language (Bosnian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one was to be a communist they would not be able to practice religion. Communism is against
religion and its ways Religion and communism are incompatible, both theoretically and practically.
Having Eastern Europe with that many religious groups made it impossible for them to achieve
communism. There was once an somewhat of well established communist state in Eastern Europe, it
was not fully communistic due to most people seeing it as transitioning to a socialist party. Yugoslavia
was a communist state, it was around from 1945 1980. While Yugoslavia existed most of its firms
were co operatively operated. The problem with Yugoslavia is that it lasted while Tito (Communist
leader) lasted, once Tito died so did Yugoslavia. Tito was sought as a great leader one of the last great
WWII leaders. It seems as he was only able to keep everything in place due to his great ties with the
west (United States of America), and the major support and love from the civilians of Yugoslavia. Tito
is seen as a great leader but he neglected to create strong ties with in the united countries. He did not
encourage students to study outside their republics. This had created a week bond between the
countries. Once he died it was obvious that there was going to be a split, Tito might of have held the
countries together but did not bring the people of different ethnicities together. If Yugoslavia was not
created because of the after math of WWII, but instead created due to people wanting to create a better
nation in which communism is a reality everything would be different. When talking about the
unification of Yugoslavia mostly

ability to post free jobs on free jobs listing, more and more employers are preferring to hire

What are the Pros that you should expect? Advantages of Hiring a Freelancer 1. Reduced Cost Even if
you decide to work with a freelancer who asks for an hourly rate, you will still save yourself a
significant amount of money. Statistically speaking, you will be able to save at least twenty to thirty
percent each year. Remember, hiring a freelancer is not the same as when you have a full time
employee. A freelancer will not require you to pay him or her benefits such as retirement benefits and
health insurance. Also, you will be able to save on office cost. The majority of the freelancers are
remote. This means that you will not need an office or office equipment. 2. Numerous Talent to
Choose From Every time you decide to hire a freelancer, you are guaranteed to get someone to meet
your needs quite easily. With the rise of free job websites, all types of freelancers are available. In the

Why Carter Center Won The Nobel Peace Prize
Nobel Peace Prize What would you do if your entire nation is being ravaged by a disease that you don
t know how to treat? That s where The Carter Center stepped in to aid struggling families in Africa.
Led by former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, they were able to bring cures to villages that have
none. Some people may say that the Carters just want to gain media attention but I will prove that is
not the case. The purpose of this essay is to show why I believe the Carter Center should be awarded
the Nobel Peace Prize.
The first reason why The Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace prize is they assist people in
thousands of villages with diseases that don t have a cure in their country. The biggest epidemic that
the Carter Center was involved in was the Guinea worm disease. In just one years time the Center
reduced the disease by a whopping 99 percent! That number decreased from 3.5 million to less then
11,000. Since the Center has many people to help throughout the world, they teach the people who are
at the center of the disease to cure it themselves. To do this, the Carter Center train volunteers within
the thousands of villages who are the main reason the diseases are cured. However, this not the only
reason the Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace Prize. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To cure Guinea worm they took an extremely low tech approach. One of the main ways they stopped
the disease was to keep people from drinking contaminated water. They built wells, treated water to
kill fleas, and also filtered water. The simplest way they destroyed the disease was by handing out pipe
filters. Pipe filters are small portable water purification plants that look like a piece of jewelry. It has a
fine screen at the bottom that filters out fleas making any water source safe to drink. What more could

Parrot Persuasive Speech
If I could be an animal for a day, I would be a parrot. The only animal that can talk is a parrot. Parrots
can talk, are very colorful, and can fly up to 60 MPH. Also, parrots are very intelligent. Soaring above
the tree, talking to people, exploring the outdoors, soaking up the sun, that s what I would do all day
as a parrot. They can fly wherever they want. I would travel to the beach. Most parrots live in tropical
places near a beach, so I will be able to visit the beach all the time. When I m at the beach, I will talk
to people and freak them out! There are approximately 350 species of parrots. However, they all have
curved beaks. Most parrots eat seeds, fruit, flowers, nuts, buds, and some small creatures such as
insects. One of the most colorful parrots is the Scarlet Macaw Parrot. Male and female Macaw are
often red, yellow and blue in color. Parrots are often brightly colored. There are many different types
of parrots, but I want to be a Scarlet Macaw. The colors of parrot s help males attract females. Also,
the color helps camouflage the parrots in the tropical climate. Warm climates are where parrots are

Professional Poker Player-Personal Narrative
As I walked into the smoke filled room, a steady mixture of anxiousness and excitement ran through
my body at a vividly momentous pace. It is not every day an 18 year old kid is able to go to the
nearest casino and go play poker. My family was visiting my grandparents in Oklahoma, and as luck
would have it, the legal gambling age in Oklahoma is 18 years. I have been playing poker steadily
throughout the course of my life to this point at small home games and online tournaments, and prior
to this day the only aspirations I had in my body was to become a well known professional poker
player. But nothing would equal the thrill of taking down a monster pot in an actual casino, or so I
thought. About fifteen minutes after signing up for a seat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you ve ever been into poker or even watched the World Series of Poker on ESPN, you ll see what I
mean. Here are just a few observations I ve made...some obvious, some (hopefully) not. Mind games
are a big part of the game. In poker, you can learn all about the strength of hands, pot odds, betting
position, and how to play it by the book. In Street Fighter 4, you can analyze frame data, learn
combos, find rankings/tier listings, and watch replays. But in the end, it comes down to playing the
man. It s about making the other guy fold when he has you beat, or giving him a false sense of
confidence when really, he s walking into certain defeat. It s about giving your opponent the
impression that his strategy is full proof, only to punish him painfully at the most (in)opportune time.
It s all about being unpredictable and rattling the other guy to the point where all his pre game
knowledge seems to go out the window. Heck, Justin Wong almost beat Daigo while playing a
character he admittedly didn t know very well or practice much. I doubt he was thinking about frame
data while he was missing combos, but still giving Daigo all he could handle. The head knowledge
definitely comes in handy, don t get me wrong. I m just saying it s about how you actually use what
you know. Luck is required to make it through. Back in the day before poker got huge which I

The Importance Of Working In An Office
Many people work in different environments, for example, at home and in an office. Some people
decide to work at home because they won t have to deal with getting up on time in the morning or
going through morning and afternoon traffic. Working in an office is the best choice due to many
reasons like becoming more collaborative and knowing when the day is over. Other reasons for why it
is better to work in an office is because you get feedback and answers very fast and because there is
not as many interruptions like at home with family. The first reason why working at an office is better
is because people are more collaborative and and innovative when they re together. As it says in article
by Fortune, they believe that people are more productive when they re alone but they re more
collaborative and innovative when they re together. Some of the best ideas come from pulling two
different ideas together . This demonstrates that whenever you work with someone else, you have
more chance to work together and create a great plan or idea. Maradiaga 2 The next reason to why
working in an office is better than at home is because it s easier to communicate with colleagues.
Some people are anti socialist so they would do good at home but it s always an advantage because
you get to meet with someone and so you have a better interaction with your co partners. According to

Statement Of MS Industrial Engineering
It is after carefully considering strong academic credentials in Mechanical engineering from GITAM
University and my firm background in industrial research that I have decided to apply for the MS
Industrial engineering Program. Industrial engineering is what makes it one of the most challenging
fields as it not only meets needs, but has the power to create new needs, rules and total environments
of its own. Also, I believe over time, I cultivated right attitude and maturity towards industrial
research. So far already, I have done some amount of theoretical and applied research in the

Essay about Jewish History
Jewish History
Ever since the Jews were driven from their homeland (now known as Israel) they have faced
discrimination and prejudice, mainly due to their beliefs and culture. They spread throughout the
world and in some countries they were welcomed and enjoyed periods of peace with their neighbors,
however in Europe the population was mainly Christian and the Jews found themselves being branded
as outsiders. The reason Jewish and Christian populations couldn t get along was due to different
religious beliefs and for many years the Church taught of how it believed the Jews had killed Jesus,
however in modern times this view has been discredited by many historians.

propaganda. The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion put forward the notion that an organiation of

circulated throughout Europe and America and it helped fuel Nazism in the 1930 s.
Meanwhile during this period Frances Jewish population was far less than Easten Europe. French Jews

Summary Of The NovelThe No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Botswana is known for many things, from the country s sprawling landscapes to it s sparkling
diamonds. It is this beautiful country that Alexander McCall Smith uses as the backdrop for his novel,
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Smith, a former professor at both the University of Botswana and
Edinburgh University, creates a wonderful and entertaining story centered around a patriotic woman
who wants to make a difference. The novel s main character, a middle aged woman named Precious
Ramotswe, uses the money from her late father s cattle to open her very own detective agency. At the
time, this was an abnormality for a woman. As the novel progresses, one thing becomes clear: Certain
qualities of the country of Botswana and in the novel The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency has clearly
defined the expectations of males and females, leaving females treated unfairly. Throughout the novel,
Mma Ramotswe encounters many different people and is faced with many obstacles. One of these
obstacles is the fact that she is a woman, which Mma Ramotswe does not believe should be a problem.
Despite her opinions, the detective sees the difference in genders as she solves many of her cases. The
earliest encounter in the story is in one of the first cases the detective works on: a case in which a
young woman, named Happy Bapetsi, wants Mma Ramotswe to prove that man who appeared on her
doorstep is truly her long lost father. Happy Bapetsi is not your average Botswana woman. Successful

It felt like if it was a vie between them. He did not fight back with me because i was also the pitcher of
the baseball team After graduation we truly went our separate ways. Like I said before I went to
HArvard and he went to Military which definitely did not surprise me. We heard a rumor of Sazer
being kicked out of school.
Q YOU WERE NOT SURPRISED? Could you describe why?
Ya, Sazer was always talking about his guns and seemed to be really into them. He was also kind of a
hothead and he was always bullying some younger kid or threatening to shoot someone.
Q Shoot them? Can you elaborate on that?
Ya, well It happened in DQ.Jamie and I were there and then Sazer showed up. Jamie walked over and
told Sazer he was not smart enough to go college or join the marines.I knew that Jamie was crossing
some lines but what Sazer did is still engraved in my brain!
Q What did he do?
He lost all self control and JUMPED AT Jamie. AND it took three of us to restrain him. After he
calmed down he shaped his hand as a gun like this (SHAPE YOUR HAND LIKE A GUN) pointed to
JAMIE and said Bullet to the head and you are dead. AND THEN processed to pull his hand as if he
was shooting the gun LIKE THIS (PRETEND LIKE YOU ARE SHOOTING THE GUN WHILE
LOOKING AT THE JUDGE STRAIGHT IN THE EYES) When I found the courage to look at him in
I saw a person who wanted to kill.
Q THen What happened.
It scared Jamie so much that he reported him to the school. He also got punished by his father but

Analysis Of The MovieTaxi Driver, And Apocalypse Now
Action exhilarates audiences through dramatic, heart pounding scenes, while drama emotionally
adheres viewers through heart felt plots. Taxi Driver was one of the first movies to reveal the mental
effects soldiers underwent after the Vietnam War. Similarly, Apocalypse Now directed by Francis Ford
Coppola, uncovers the truly severe impacts the vietnam war had on soldiers. Apocalypse Now is about
a classified mission to assassinate a renegade colonel who has set himself up as a god among a local
tribe. Through the use of dissolves, lighting, and sound, Coppola is able to expose the horrors of
PTSD within the brains of the soldiers due to the Vietnam War.
Apocalypse Now helps explain the effects of war to viewers through vivid realistic scenes.
Throughout the film, Captain Willard, played by Martin Sheen, faces many challenges such as death
and insanity on his journey to find the renegade soldier. His team, Chef, played by Frederic Forrest,
Clean, played by Laurence Miller, Johnson, played by Sam Bottoms, and Chief Phillips, played by
Albert Hall, all show the mental effects of war throughout the trip through the rainforest. Each
character experiences some type of trauma weather it be physical or mental. Furthermore, each
character is exposed to some type of weakness either being a life ending injury or a psychotic
breakdown. Director Coppola illustrates the insanity soldiers experience during war through dissolves
and close ups. When Captain Willard is laying in bed

circumstances can be taken into account when planning care that will empower individuals. I will use
a variety of examples from health and social care. I will also extend these examples by assessing the
potential difficulties in taking individual circumstances into account when planning care that will
empower an individual, and make suggestions for improvement.
Case study 1: Communication
Rebecca and Nigel Smyth live with their three year old daughter, Helen, in a pleasant suburb at the
edge of a large city. Helen has autism and attends a special nursery in the city four times a week. As
Helen s speech is not progressing at the rate expected for her age, the GP has referred her to Teresa, a
speech and language therapist. Teresa has worked with Rebecca and Nigel, showing them how to
encourage Helen. She has asked them for information about Helen, calling them the experts . Rebecca
and Nigel feel that Teresa shared the support and planning for Helen with them and this has
encouraged them to work with her as partners.
In this case study Helen has autism and the speech and language therapist is able to work very closely
with Helen s parent. Every child s parents know their child better than anyone else as they are with
them 24/7. However Helen can only be helped to a certain extent, not every parent will have the same
amount of time to care for their child. We have found out that Helen goes to a special nursery but not
every child gets the same amount of help Helen is getting

Persian Gulf War Essay
The Persian Gulf War all started because of one country s greed for oil. Iraq accused Kuwait of
pumping oil and not sharing the benfits, and Kuwait was pumping more oil than allowed under quotas
set by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, it decreased the price of oil, Iraq s main
export. Iraq s complaints against Kuwait grew more and more harsh, but they were mostly about
money. When Iraqi forces began to assemble near the Kuwaiti border in the summer of 1990, several
Arab states tried to intervene the dispute. Kuwait didn t want to look weak so they didn t ask for any
help from the United States or other non Arab powers for support. Arab mediators convinced Iraq and
Kuwait to negotiate their differences in Saudi Arabia, on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still other countries made other contributions: Turkey allowed air bases on its territory to be used by
coalition planes, and Japan and Germany gave financial support. The primary goal of the force was to
prevent further Iraqi action, but most countries were aware the force might eventually be used to drive
Iraq from Kuwait.
The Iraqis tried to prevent and split the growing international coalition through several means. They
made it clear that their adversaries would pay heavily if war broke out, and they hinted they would use
chemical weapons and missile attacks on cities. Iraq also held citizens of coalition countries who had
been in Kuwait at the time of the invasion and said they would be held in militarily camp areas in
effect using them as human shields to prevent coalition attacks. Iraq finally released the last of the
foreigners in December 1990 under pressure from several Arab nations. The coalition s greatest
military concern during the closing months of 1990 was that Iraqi forces would attack before coalition
forces were fully in place, but no such attack took place.
On November 29, with coalition forces over whelming in Saudi Arabia and Iraq showing no signs of
retreat, the

Two Experiences Of Erikson s Theory Of Personality...
Developmental psychology is the study of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial changes that occur
throughout an individual s lifespan (Weiten, 2015). These changes are influenced by the environment,
therefore shaping an individual s personality, cognition and social functioning (Narvaez Gleason,
2012). This essay will identify and discuss two experiences that complement two stages of Erikson s
Theory of Personality Development (Fleming, 2004) namely: industry versus inferiority and identity
versus role confusion. It will discuss the authoritative style in the parenting theory and the secure
attachment style from the theory of attachment. An analysis of the author s own personal experiences
will be discussed by relying on the facts of each theory. It will address strengths and weaknesses
regarding Erikson s Theory, relevant to the author s developmental process, living in South Africa.
Starting school is a profound experience for the author. The introduction of school is relatable to

Secure attachment, recognized by Mary Ainsworth, is well structured (Narvaez Gleason, 2012). It
provides infants with self starting tools needed to cope with stressful circumstances and encourage
adaptive plans for coping (Narvaez Gleason, 2012). The author believes that secure attachment is
prominent in the home. Authoritative parenting style is similar to secure attachment as both parents
give support and affection to the author. The constant affection imposes a close relationship between
the parents and the author because it is a space where there is no judgement and the author is capable
of implementing trust and honesty. Secure attachment has helped the author s self control, dealing
with stressful situations such as coping with bullying from the skin disorder. The author has become
more independent and knows what coping mechanisms to

The Play Of The Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis
Hiding in the holocaust was a horrible thing. If you had too, do you think you would survive?
Although it was horrific, one Jewish girl, Anne Frank said, In spite of everything, I still believe people
are really good at heart. Anne never lost hope. She never just looked at the negative in all things. She
thought that if someone was bad they could always change, and she was right. After reading The Play
of the Diary of Anne Frank I have come to the conclusion that I agree with Anne s quote. The biggest
reason I agree with Anne s quote is what Peter did. Even though I think this, there are some people
who do not agree with this quote. I think some people would disagree because of what selfish thing
Mr. Van Daan did with his wife s coat for himself.
There were a lot of other things in The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank, but there was one that got me
convended right when I saw. It was a big act of kindness coming from Peter. On page 114 115 this
dialogue happened:
Anne: This isn t true. You re much better than I am in dozens of things arithmetic and algebra and ...
Well, you re a million time better than I am in algebra. (With sudden directness.) You like Margot, don
t you? Right from the start you likes her, liked her much better than me.
Peter: (uncomfortably) Oh, I don t know.
Anne: It s all right. Everyone feels that way. Margot s so good. She s sweet and bright and beautiful,
and I m not.
Peter: I wouldn t say that.
Anne: Oh, no, I m not. I know that. I know quite well

A person’s orientation on a political issue, specifically...
A person s orientation on a political issue, specifically domestic public policies, is based on political
ideology. Ideology is the position or attitude towards the government system based on freedom in
particular freedom from and freedom of as well as basing upon equality particularly equality of
opportunity and equality of outcome. Liberals tend to choose equality of outcome, the government
ensuring equality through services, on economic issues more so than conservatives who tend to chose
equality of opportunity. Therefore, based on political ideology, a strong inference can be establish as
to what a person tends to be, liberal or conservative in this case concerning domestic pubic policies.
However, do orientations on political issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method of measurement offers a reasonable amount of validity for a reason that includes a
concise, clear question with different dimensions of answer in which the person being survey may
choose the number that best represents their attitude. To measure the presidential vote the following
question was asked, for whom did you vote for President in 2012? Again, the question is
straightforward and unlikely to be confusing which ensures validity and reliability. The options for the
question regarding presidential vote are Obama, Romney, and other, which includes candidates from
minority parties. With the information and numerical figures obtained, a contingency table was
conducted in order to compare the variables. However, there seemed to be an abundance of
information that could be arranged in a different manner in order for the comparison to be
uncomplicated and easy to interpret. To precisely illustrate the numerical figures and precisely
compare both variables it is necessary to condense the information. First,

The Impact Of Video Games On Child Development
Technology innovation usually changes the world in certain aspects that affects human life, especially
when it comes to childhood development. There are strong arguments on both sides regarding about
how video games affects child development. Yet, it´s common knowledge that everything that is
overused, like play games for more than certain amount of hours, is not good for your health, even
drinking too much water can be harmful. On one hand we have scientists claiming that video games
are the future of education but on the other hand, some games have aggressive exposure that might
reflect in child comportment.
After recent studies made by NPD, New Product Development, who showed that more than 90 percent
of children play video games and the rate for the children between three and five years old that play
video games is the one that increased the most, parents started to wonder how this phenomenon affects
child development since video games have been attracted children all over the world.
Explain why it is compelling to you
I was three years old when I played video game for the first time in my life. My dad played all the
classics, from Megadrive and Nintendo 64 to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, so video games were
something very close to me when I was growing up. Also, every kid that plays video games will spend
a couple of hours in front of the screen so it is a great opportunity for parents to use the technology in
their favor by mixing fun time with education time.

We Have NOT Done Enough to Respond to the Legacies of...
From what I have learned so far it appears that contemporary society has responded to the legacies of
historical globalization, yet it hasn t done quite enough to satisfy the concerned and affected. I would
have to disagree to this statement, there are still some problems I believe needing to be addressed.
Reasoning I have chosen the position of disagree because although contemporary society has
responded to legacies of historical globalization, I think we haven t done enough yet. Although we
have definitely moved away from a Eurocentric perspective there are definitely some undertones that
remain evident in our everyday society over almost all countries. Even today there are some very
strong examples of how contemporary society has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The debate statement Contemporary society has done enough to respond to the legacies of historical
globalization is a pretty bold statement. I for one believe that we haven t done anywhere close to
enough to have responded to the legacies of a dark past, but at the very least we have started to. There
have been horrible acts committed all over our world for numerous reasons, and a lot of the time they
carry over undertones from historical globalization. It s up to our society as a whole to begin
effectively healing the wounds left from the past. Examples Africa nowadays is viewed as a pretty
poor continent, but if it were not for a single event, it wouldn t be in the shape it is today. This event is
best known as the scramble for Africa. The European powers had begun taking land after King
Léopold the second claimed that initial piece of land. European powers gathered in 1884 to discuss
which part of Africa were theirs to avoid fighting, however this was done between European countries,
and the thought of even inviting a spokesperson from Africa was beyond them. The people of Africa
were enslaved and forced to work the land for natural resources such as rubber and diamond. After the
European powers claimed all that they could, two independent countries remained. These two
countries were Liberia and Ethiopia. The Eurocentric perspective that the European powers had at the
time allowed for them to commit these horrible acts and see nothing wrong with what they had

Introduction
Hate crime is a broad subject to begin with, this leaves it difficult to limit to a single definition. There
is a single official definition for legislation purposes that cover the five strands of hate crime that are
monitored within England and Wales.
...perpetrators of hostility or prejudice against an identifiable group of people is a factor in
determining whois victimised . (Hate Crime Data, no date) furthermore, academics such as
Gernstenfeld (2004) suggest that the focus of hate crime should not necessarily all be on the victim,
but rather the group they are associated with, minority or otherwise (See Chakraborti Garland 2009
PAGE). Others like Sheffield (1995) takes in to account social and political factors that legitimate
violence (See Perry 2001, Page 9), the perpetrator commits a hate crime because they are acting upon
pre existing prejudice beliefs. Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) individuals have long been
considered unequal s in society, mainly because up until recent legislation adjustment, allowing gay
marriage; they haven t completely had the same human rights as straight individuals. Not having the
same rights could be an indicator as to why sexual orientation related hate crime is so common.

  • 2. HIV Came with Harsh Stereotypes and Discrimination for... During the 1980s and 1990s the new HIV disease began to emerge in society and with it came harsh stereotypes and discrimination against those who contracted it. Simultaneously, one of the most talented and influential point guards in basketball was dominating the sport: Earvin Magic Johnson. Throughout his career Johnson gained three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was admitted into the Basketball Hall of Fame ( Magic Johnson ). However, on November 7, 1991, Johnson announced his diagnosis of HIV and his retirement from the National Basketball Association (NBA). Following this abrupt and unexpected event, Johnson became one of the leading figures in the fight against AIDS. The Magic Johnson Foundation was founded and is still dedicated to educating communities about AIDS. The charitable and influential work Johnson contributed to the research of AIDS revealed him as not just an extraordinary basketball player but also as an extraordinary human being ( Magic Johnson ). A few years after Johnson s diagnosis, he released his autobiography, My Life. My Life describes the childhood and competitive basketball years of Johnson as well as his announcement of contracting HIV. In the article, New and Noteworthy Paperbacks , by Laurel Graeber, reviewer Harvey Araton describes Magic Johnson s autobiography, My Life, as best when he shares his insights about his coaches and fellow players (Graeber). The article has positive things to say about Johnson s autobiography such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke Theodore Roethke s poem, My Papa s Waltz has spurred passionate academic debates among professors, scholars, and students; the imagery, context, and diction of the poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz reflecting on his relationship with his father. A relationship in which, notably, causes harm to the author. However, through all the nights Roethke spent in pain and in horror, his love for his father still exists. While many people believe that the author tells a lovely story of a fond memory with his father, it is not possible that the use of negative imagery and negative diction does not play a role in the story told. My Papa s Waltz tells the story of a small boy who is abused by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the negative imagery in My Papa s Waltz strengthens the interpretation that the poem is about abuse. Throughout the entire poem the author noticeably creates multiple negative images. Roethke mentions how he hung on like death and how his father held [his] wrist not his hand. From these two lines we can already see how Roethke is in some kind of danger or trouble, for he hung on like death which serves to explain how he barely survived he had much trouble staying on. His father also does not hold his hand; he holds his wrist, as if he were getting his son in trouble. If his father would to waltz, as in dance with his son, he would hold him by the hand not the wrist. Further, Roethke mentions his mother whose countenance could not unfrown itself. Many argue the author implies that his mother frowns at the sight of the pans falling in the kitchen. Analyzing closely, one can conclude that it is unreasonable for a mother to just frown and watch her pans fall logically, she would react in some other form by trying to stop it. Since the author does not mention any movement, it is reasonable to believe that the mother just stands there with a frown because her eyes come across a horrific image that she freezes in fear and can only frown upon this sight. • 6. Taking a Look at Marfan Syndrome Marfan Syndrome, which is named after Antoine Marfan who first described the disorder in 1896, is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues found throughout the body. This syndrome can affect many different parts of the body, but the most commonly affected are the heart, blood vessels, bones, joints, respiratory system, nervous system, and eyes. Thankfully, a person s intelligence is never affected. Marfan syndrome affects people from all races and ethnic backgrounds, and this often makes it hard to detect. It is a pretty rare genetic disorder affecting only about 1 in every 5,000 people. This syndrome is from a mutation of a gene on chromosome 15 and this causes problems in the production of fibrillin 1 which is a protein that is an important part of connective tissue. The name for the gene is FBN1. Basically, it is the glue that helps to support the tissues in the human body. A child born to a parent with this syndrome has a 50% of having it. However, in the remaining 25%, neither parent has the disease which gives them a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a child with this disorder. When a child of two unaffected parents is born with it then the genetic mutation occurs in either the egg or sperm cell at the time of conception. The defect of this glue leads to phenotypes such as a thin, lanky build, flexible joints, sunken eyes, a chest that is sunken in or bulges out, curvature of the spine to one side (scoliosis), and flat feet. • 7. Fall Of Communism In Eastern Europe Karl Marx came up with the idea of communism. Communism is a political system in which everyone is equal, it is characterised by the absence of social class and money, and the state. The main reason for the fall of communism (1989) in Eastern Europe would be due to its wide ethnicity, and due to the people with in the countries not accepting one another. Eastern Europe is made of 21 countries, each having a different culture. Some of these countries are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo, Ukraine and Serbia. Most of these countries have a different language and religion. Bosnia is located in South Eastern Europe, and classified as an Islamic nation with having its own language (Bosnian). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one was to be a communist they would not be able to practice religion. Communism is against religion and its ways Religion and communism are incompatible, both theoretically and practically. Having Eastern Europe with that many religious groups made it impossible for them to achieve communism. There was once an somewhat of well established communist state in Eastern Europe, it was not fully communistic due to most people seeing it as transitioning to a socialist party. Yugoslavia was a communist state, it was around from 1945 1980. While Yugoslavia existed most of its firms were co operatively operated. The problem with Yugoslavia is that it lasted while Tito (Communist leader) lasted, once Tito died so did Yugoslavia. Tito was sought as a great leader one of the last great WWII leaders. It seems as he was only able to keep everything in place due to his great ties with the west (United States of America), and the major support and love from the civilians of Yugoslavia. Tito is seen as a great leader but he neglected to create strong ties with in the united countries. He did not encourage students to study outside their republics. This had created a week bond between the countries. Once he died it was obvious that there was going to be a split, Tito might of have held the countries together but did not bring the people of different ethnicities together. If Yugoslavia was not created because of the after math of WWII, but instead created due to people wanting to create a better nation in which communism is a reality everything would be different. • 9. Why Carter Center Won The Nobel Peace Prize Nobel Peace Prize What would you do if your entire nation is being ravaged by a disease that you don t know how to treat? That s where The Carter Center stepped in to aid struggling families in Africa. Led by former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, they were able to bring cures to villages that have none. Some people may say that the Carters just want to gain media attention but I will prove that is not the case. The purpose of this essay is to show why I believe the Carter Center should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The first reason why The Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace prize is they assist people in thousands of villages with diseases that don t have a cure in their country. The biggest epidemic that the Carter Center was involved in was the Guinea worm disease. In just one years time the Center reduced the disease by a whopping 99 percent! That number decreased from 3.5 million to less then 11,000. Since the Center has many people to help throughout the world, they teach the people who are at the center of the disease to cure it themselves. To do this, the Carter Center train volunteers within the thousands of villages who are the main reason the diseases are cured. However, this not the only reason the Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace Prize. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To cure Guinea worm they took an extremely low tech approach. It is not every day an 18 year old kid is able to go to the nearest casino and go play poker. My family was visiting my grandparents in Oklahoma, and as luck would have it, the legal gambling age in Oklahoma is 18 years. I have been playing poker steadily throughout the course of my life to this point at small home games and online tournaments, and prior to this day the only aspirations I had in my body was to become a well known professional poker player. If you ve ever been into poker or even watched the World Series of Poker on ESPN, you ll see what I mean. Here are just a few observations I ve made...some obvious, some (hopefully) not. Mind games are a big part of the game. In poker, you can learn all about the strength of hands, pot odds, betting position, and how to play it by the book. In Street Fighter 4, you can analyze frame data, learn combos, find rankings/tier listings, and watch replays. But in the end, it comes down to playing the man. It s about making the other guy fold when he has you beat, or giving him a false sense of confidence when really, he s walking into certain defeat. It s about giving your opponent the impression that his strategy is full proof, only to punish him painfully at the most (in)opportune time. It s all about being unpredictable and rattling the other guy to the point where all his pre game knowledge seems to go out the window. Heck, Justin Wong almost beat Daigo while playing a character he admittedly didn t know very well or practice much. I doubt he was thinking about frame data while he was missing combos, but still giving Daigo all he could handle. The head knowledge definitely comes in handy, don t get me wrong.
