Career Caution Summary
My niece Jenny is a very bright high school student who wants to plan for her future. She is strongly
considering becoming a doctor, but is concerned that she may not be making the best decision in the
long run. She contacted me asking for my advice on the matter since her skepticism comes from
concerns with that career in the economy and the best location to practice. I have recently read an
article titled, Fewer Physicians Move, a Sign of Career Caution. This article raises some red flags and
justifies some of Jenny s concerns with becoming a doctor. I will do some research on the demand
determinants, price elasticity of demand, supply determinants, max/cost of production, and price
elasticity of supply. This information should help me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cultural Safety Issues In Australia
Introduction
Cultural safety is a very important effect of an organisation. To form cultural safety it requires
proposition that can deal with both the institutional and the individual aspects of health and
community care services. For employees Cultural safety is also essential, mainly for Aboriginal people
delivering services to other Aboriginal people. This can be together with non Aboriginal health care
practitioners. Predominantly, Cultural safety is important in developing culturally suitable systems as
well as behaviour towards improved attraction including, employment and preserving approaches.
It is important to understand that cultural safety is a practice and achievement. It requires a recognition

I have chosen four media articles for my essay which will analyse how racism can contribute to
cultural safety issues and ill health among Indigenous Australians. These media articles are the news
paper articles and TV news articles.
Media 1 http://indaily.com.au/news/2015/09/25/racism putting indigenous lives at risk/ Racism putting
Indigenous lives at risk
Key Issues
According to Indaily news article, racism has put Indigenous life in dangers in medical systems as
researched by Flinders University. As stated by Professor Dennis McDermott, from the Poche Centre
for Indigenous Health and Well Being at Flinders, due to lacks of cultural safety in medical services
and Health professionals, Indigenous people are stopping their hospital treatments earlier. Professor
McDermott has spoken in the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives
conference in Darwin. Some students are openly racist when he tries to educate them on culturally
appropriate ways to deal with Aboriginal patients.
This shows that people are in lack of education regarding cultural safety with health professionals and
within health system. Education has been acknowledged as a plan to tackle inequality to which
cultural education of undergraduate students and health professionals is successful in reducing racism.
This can ensure institutions and practitioners are delivering culturally respectful health

How Does Beowulf Present Societal Values
In Beowulf, Canterbury Tales: The Wife of Bath s Tale, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the
authors portray societal values through the development of plot. In Beowulf, Beowulf journeys to
Hrothgar s kingdom. He comes because a monster, Grendel, has been destroying parts of their village
and killing their men. Beowulf also comes to repay a debt that is owed to Hrothgar for saving his
father and his father s army. When Beowulf arrives, he boasts to Hrothgar and Hrothgar says that he is
allowed to try and defeat the monster. Beowulf fights with Grendel and wins. Soon, Grendel s mother
comes to destroy Beowulf. Beowulf fights her in a long, drawn out battle and wins. Beowulf grows
old and becomes king of the Geats and then he and his men go to fight the dragon because Beowulf
wants to secure the treasure so that his kingdom will have wealth and prosperity after his ... Show

When they fight his men are overcome with personal greed of the treasure and are foolish in battle and
die. Beowulf then fights the dragon single handedly, killing it but getting himself killed in the process.
The author of Beowulf portrays the societal values of honor and bravery through this plot. Beowulf
goes because, as Hrothgar described it, I brought the end to Edgetho s (Beowulf s father) quarrel, sent
ancient treasures through the ocean s furrows to the Wulfings (Beowulf 204 206). He is being
honorable by repaying the debt that his father owed to Hrothgor. Honor and keeping promises was an
important part of Anglo Saxon societies and was an important part of their warrior code. The author of
Beowulf also portrays the societal value of bravery in the story. The original thought of going to fight
three monsters is bravery in itself. But

The rise of various empires was a result of massive political and cultural changes that happened
throughout central and south Asia. The major empires created due to the changed were the Mauryan
and Seleucia Empire. In addition to various empires being created in central and south Asia, Buddhism
influences many parts of the world and the Silk Road became a vital importance. Alexander paved the
way for one of the largest Empires in South Asia history, the Mauryan empire. (213) Before Alexander
and his forced came to South Asia, the region was comprised of multiple small warring states, until
321 BCE, when they failed. A man by the name of Chandragupta Mori took ideas from Alexander and
created a successful military and took the thrown of the Magadha kingdom. (213) Chandragupta and

What is medical detox?
Medical detox is a specific type of detox therapy that, under medical supervision, is used to gradually
decrease the level of the addicted substance from the body in order to make the detox and withdrawal

How Does Barton Create A Perfect American Society
Comparing Utopian Works of Cavendish and Bacon
Like everyone, Sir Francis Bacon and Margaret Cavendish had differing opinions of a perfect, utopian
society. For Bacon, his utopia is a society whose culture venerates science and scientists. Where
science is not at odds with religion, and scientific advancement is very rapid. Bacon s society is also
vastly Christian, with the only non Christian being Bartholomew, a father of Solomon s House who s
Jewish. Cavendish, who also appreciates the scientific method doesn t put as much focus on it as
Bacon does. Cavendish s society put s far more focus on society who exalts their monarch with almost
the same respect as a deity, social unification through said monarch and a nondenominational god.
Bacon s utopia in The New Atlantis, he puts the most emphasis on empirical science and reason, and
discovering natures mysteries while also applying these new discoveries to his utopian society. This is
very clearly stated by the head of Solomon s House when he s explaining his organization his guests,
The end of our foundation is the knowledge of causes and secret motions of things; and the enlarging
of the bounds of the human empire, to the effecting of all things possible this idea is the foundation of
Solomon s House and play s a massive role in the society of Bensalem.

the reader that in Bacon s ideal world everyone should be Christian, though even if thet are not

the freedom of religion that bacon believed in, that people of other religions wouldn t be persecuted

Prince, Sondheim, and the Concept Musical ...the musicals that Prince, Sondheim and their various
collaborators offered in the early 1970s re energized the Broadway musical, setting the genre on a soul
searching course that redefined the genre Kenrick, 2014 As the 1960 s came to a close, Stephen
Sondheim and Harold Prince joined forces to create a milestone in the development of American
musical theater titled Company. Although the musical did not have a strong plot or much character
growth, the musical had something new that audiences had never seen before. Together, Prince and
Sondheim created the concept musical, which had a profound effect on Broadway for years to come.
Through research, I will travel back to the beginning stages of Sondheim and Prince s start of the
concept musical, then venture to the 1970 s collaborations, and finally look to the effects that the
concept musical had for the future creators. Prince and Cabaret No one has been more crucial to the
evolution of the concept musical than Harold Prince. Being trained by George Abbott and Jerome
Robbins, Harold Prince directed over twenty musicals on Broadway and often produced his own
work. Prince became associated with the term concept musical when he created Cabaret in 1968.
Working with Joe Masteroff (librettist), John Kander (composer), Fred Ebb (lyricist), Prince s
metaphor and link between Cabaret and Nazi Germany struck audiences hard. The show s original

The Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change Advice For...
The Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change advice for policy makers is a book with various
statistics and facts about what the scientific community has been noticing about the changing
environment. The hope for the panel when making this booklet is that they could help guide policy
makers towards making more informed decisions about their policies and the effect it is having on the
environment. While some of the evidence is almost indisputable many politicians still argue their
validity due to personal beliefs or because they receive campaign donations from companies who do
not want to see environmental policies change. The booklet is split up into three different parts,
observations of the changes in the environment around us, future risks these changes can have, and
how to manage these risks and build a sustainable planet for everybody. The booklet describes many
various pieces of evidence from what they have seen around the world and have even rated their
certainty on their hypothesizes. The section starts out about how the global temperature has been
increasing rapidly over the past century. They also state that the reason the temperature has been rising
is due to human activity and the rise in the amount of greenhouse gases that we release. The amount of
human death we had so far is unknown due to the wide cause of effects the rising temperature can
have. Nobody knows how much food is lost from climate change or how many water borne illnesses

Good vs. Evil in John Cheever s The Five-Forty-Eight Essay
Good vs. Evil in John Cheever s The Five Forty Eight
John Cheever was an award winning American author of the twentieth century. His work often
possessed psychological and religious vision with central themes of sin, deception, and redemption
(Kennedy, 551). Cheever s short story entitled The Five Forty Eight portrays a struggle of good vs.
evil. Following the themes of sin, deception, and redemption, we read of a young woman (good)
seeking revenge for the evil done to her. Through the course of the story the reader can distinguish
between the traits of good and evil.
The Webster s dictionary defines evil as that which is morally wrong. Blake has some distinct morality
issues. Blake, the evil force in the story, possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His relationships are not the only area of his life that we see Blake?s evil nature rise. There are subtle
hints of his self obsession throughout Cheever?s story. Early on in the story, Blake is admiring himself
in a plate glass window and sees himself with ?a clear reflection? and the crowds ?like shadows at his
back? (551). He then sees Mrs. Dent as a ?contorted being? (551) in the same window. Blake sees
himself as a flawless creature of complete perfection with the mass of city pedestrians as a blur behind
his faultlessness, and he can easily pick out the imperfections in other individuals. He sees himself as
the ultimate perfection, instead of seeing the negative impact he has on his friends and family. His
negative interactions with friends and family are the evil force that breaks his relationships. There is
no mention of any moral actions performed by him.
We find yet another example of Blake?s immoral actions through his self conceit. He fails to comfort a
crying Mrs. Dent, ?he felt too contented and warm and sleepy to worry about her tears? (553). Blake
has no compassion for others; he only worries about his own affairs. This is indicative that Blake is
morally wrong.
Blake so genuinely sees himself as perfect that it is virtually impossible for him to accept any minor
mistakes he makes. When he first comes across Mrs. Dent after their affair, he is surprised to find that
he cannot

The Theory Of Social Psychology
Groups have the capability to influence the perspectives of individuals in a social gathering (Myers,
2010). This paper will analyze the meaning of a group dynamic and how it relates to social
psychology. This paper will give you an understanding on how individuals are influence by group
dynamics and social involvements. Finally, this paper will provide information that was collect from a
social group session interaction with collective studies to determine a conclusion. The interaction
during a group discussion can sometimes have a negative or positive aspect depending on the goal that
is trying to be achieve and the behavior of the individuals (Myers, 2010). During my observation on
the group session with the Girl s Scout Association, there was a strong social involvement with all of
the members. The group session had approximately twenty members. All of the members in the group
were women and their daughters. The member of the group was very diverse and all had different
cultures. The ages of the women and daughters range between six years old to forty years old. The
group purpose, mission and goals was help the young girls build courage, confidence, and character
within themselves. The purpose of the session was to come together and brainstorm ways to empower
the young girls. The goal was to teach and give them knowledge about responsibility, diversity,
leadership, and character. The duration of the group lasted for approximately two hour. I personal felt

A Summary Of The First Great Awakening
Described as theologically significant, The First Great Awakening (c. 1735 1743) was the beginning of
a revitalization that hit the American colonies by storm. It began to form once religion had eased down
and preachers began to take an emotional foot in religion and increasing liberalism Armenia (free will)
ideals began to form. George Whitefield, a circuit rider who preached spiritual awakening, and
Jonathan Edwards, imposed fear in people by claiming God had already chosen who get his salvation,
were the main contributors to the First Great Awakening. The Second Great Awakening (c.1795 1830)
was experienced across the country due to the advancement in the nation s economic growth.
Preachers often spoke emotionally about their message to increase the reaction in people. Preaches
proclaimed that the power of eternal salvation is in the hands of the person to decided to be saved and
avoid eternal damnation. This ideals were closest related/influenced by Arminianism which sinfulness
is a choice rather than a destiny in which it appealed to more people because of its optimistic outlook.
The First Great Awakening changed religious ideology by promoting Calvinist ideals and
individualism amongst people; The Second Great Awakening promoted salvation and damnation at the
expense of the person true willingness to be saved, positive female roles in the church and the infusion

Black Friday Madness
In the essay Black Friday: Consumerism Minus Civilization, the author, Andrew Leonard, makes the
argument that, The out of control marketing and consumer insanity (135) has taken over Thanksgiving
and the days following it. Sadly, as consumers, we have forgotten what Thanksgiving is really all
about. Marketing businesses have gone overboard brainwashing consumers with advertisements
pumping them up to shop on Black Friday and the days that follow. Moreover, marketing businesses
have caused the actions we see and hear about on Black Friday such as people being trampled, as
consumers rush into stores to shop the sales, and are proof of this insanity. I strongly agree with

In addition, within the stores there are so many areas sections off with lines for their own for specific
items such as laptops, Ipads, and other expensive items that are very limited in the quantity a store

even began made me step back and wonder if it is really worth the few bucks of savings. I have seen
consumers rushing to be the first in line and closest to the pallets and racks of the items still covered
up. It is crazy people actually start taking the boxes apart to look what inside while waiting for the sale
time to start. I do not recommend bringing your kids to shop, because consumers can be rude and very
pushy. Also, some stores even announce specials that are only advertised in the store during the Black
Friday sale times. All these things seem to just send consumers into and even bigger frenzy.
Leonard argues that it is time to take back Thanksgiving. He has many thoughts and points to the
insanity that Black Friday shopping brings. Leonard states But there s also a point where healthy

ourselves checking our smartphones for last minute online deals while standing in line for a chain

The Human Race Capturing Marine Animals
The earliest records of the human race capturing marine animals, specifically fish, dates back over
40,000 years to the Upper Paleolithic time period (Endangered). Initially, fishing and harvesting
aquatic animals was for the sole purpose of survival and means of finding food. Fast forward 40,000
years and fishing has shifted from a necessity to big business, wiping out the majority of oceanic
resources and setting the marine apocalypse for the year 2048, when ecologists predict all species of
fish will have gone extinct. Oceanic resources are dwindling at a rapid rate. The pending bioethical
question is this: should further restrictions on fishing be implemented in the global fishing industry, as
well as sport fishing? The answer is still up for debate.
Because of overfishing, populations of saltwater fish have dwindled to surprisingly low numbers. But
what of the few populations of people that still depend on fishing for food? And what of people who
fish for sport, but only keep their legal limit? And how will placing restrictions affect both regional
and global seafood economies? In 2005, 24.1 million tons of seafood were available for consumption
in North America alone, with an astounding 107 million tons worldwide (Overfishing). And how
would restricting fisheries affect worldwide health? Nearly 16% of the world s protein consumption is
provided by fisheries. These questions have driven bioethical debates since the early 1960s and remain
to be dangerously unsolved and

The Pros And Cons Of Federalists And Republicans
After Washington s historic term as president, he warned in his farewell address to the American
citizens against political parties and foreign affairs and encouraged them to unify as one republic.
Despite Washington s advice to the nation, political parties and foreign affairs were yet established
that divided the nation into two opposing factions: Federalists and Republicans. The Federalists, led
mainly by Alexander Hamilton, were the citizens who favored the Constitution. Anti Federalists, on
the other hand, were the citizens who opposed the ratification of the Constitution and sided with
Jefferson to form the Democratic Republican Party. While Federalists envisioned America with a
strong, complex, and centralized government, Republicans wanted America to remain a small federal
government where states and local governments held the majority of the power.
Many of the Federalist plans were centered around the idea of a strong, centralized government that
was effective and organized in the way it ran. Those who were Federalists, generally, were people of
professions and advocates of commercial interest. Alexander Hamilton, who led the Federalist Party,
wanted to pay off the national debt by establishing a national bank, restoring trade with Britain, and
encouraging American manufacturing through government tariffs in order to improve the economy
after the American Revolution. Hamilton believed that a strong and cohesive government would allow
these plans to work effectively

Mormon Discrimination
We do not need to look any further than the Book of Mormon to find historical examples of exclusion
and discrimination. The Book of Mormon recounts a considerable number of unfortunate stories filled
with contentions and wars. These stories are predominantly between people of different colors and
cultures. The motivation in the majority of these ancient scriptural accounts are firmly rooted in pride.
The feelings of being better than, was prevalent.
More recently, we have the question of discrimination in relation to a policy that Brigham Young
announced (in the year 1852), restricting men of black African descent from priesthood ordination.
This announcement also disallowed black men and women from participating in temple endowments
and sealing ordinances. Personally, I am not clear on the motivation or justification for this more
recent example. Some have speculated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Digital Signature Commercial Use Should Be Governed by Law Since the number of taxi s
companies that use smart phone s application to provide their services has increased, the popularity of
those companies has increased too. Unfortunately, one of the famous taxi s company in Saudi Arabia
called Karim had lost their customer s trust because the customers credit cards information has been
stolen by a hacker, who hacked the company s digital signature to accesses their server and steal
information. In fact, the internet has influenced our life and the E commerce was not an exception.
Many customers prefer online shopping, leasing, and selling, which are considered trade contracts. As
the contract should contain a signature that represents the agreement between parties, a written
signature is not viable in E commerce. As a result, electronic signatures have existed to provide
convenient and faster service that E commerce needs. In fact, electronic signatures have not taken as a
proof of evidence except a digital signature because the requirement to accept the signature to proof
documents could be existed only in a digital signature. In this paper, I argue that government should
regulate a digital signature to satisfied E commerce expectation and growing. First, I will define the
digital signature and distinguish it from similar signatures. second, I will explain the usage of the
digital signature in E commerce and how it expanded. Third, I will explain the law importance

Biography of Margaret Atwood Essay example
There are many female writers, some known better than other. Female writes most of the time focused
their stories in experiences or personal point of view on what is going on around them. Other women
write fiction of unusual worlds and character that people can relate to with the struggle or experiences.
Margaret Atwood the Canadian nationalist poetess is a prominebt figure concerned with the need for a
new language to explore relations between subjects and society (Omid, Pyeaam 1). Atwood wrote her
first novel called, The Edible Woman ; this first novel categorized her as feminist, based on the main

Margaret Atwood s works have been categorized as feminist however she doesn t consider herself a

First of all, Margaret Atwood is well known for writing fiction with strong female characters that
critics categorize her as feminist. Her initial works, The Edible Woman , Dancing Girls , The Robber

Those novels of strong woman describe, The main characters variously indulge in self invention, self

elucidates the woman as their own self to invent their life and their environment through the entire
novel. Atwood has a twisted technique for giving her work a jubilant name when the words describe
the opposite. One example of that is her short story collection, Dancing Girls , Atwood, bears a
surprisingly joyful title for a series of narratives shot through with anxiety and fear, with images of
death, deformity, lifelessness and contained rage (Murray 1). Atwood has an incredible way to write

College Athlete Observation Report
As a young athlete, the most efficient method to learn what it takes to compete at the next level is
watching players at the next level. If a young athlete begins comparing their game to that of a college
or professional athlete, the athlete can discover flaws in their game; therefore, the skill of observation
can tremendously improve their game. However, physical ability and repetition are not the only
components that result in a successful athlete. A coach could be the deciding factor in an athletes
failure or success. Also, the way athletes carry themselves, what they display across their face, their
attitude, and most importantly, their mindset all tremendously impacts the performance of athletes.

A Child Is Mysterious and Powerful
Within the child lies the fate of the future. Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must
preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and powerful
and contains within himself the secret of human nature.
Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy.
The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most
influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a
philosophy with a practical approach based on the central idea of freedom for the child within a
carefully planned and structured environment. To analyze the above quote, we will have to know what

Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future.
(The Absorbent Mind ,P2)
During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that
children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found
that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the
materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need
which made him normalized.
Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child
uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is
served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this
is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful,
spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40).
We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by
himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to
help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and
bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role.
Maria Montessori stated that at certain stages

Symbolism In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath is a novel written by John Steinbeck. This story explains how Tom Joads and his
family are forced to leave their home because a big business took over. This big business caused
families to change their whole life style, as well as starting a whole new life at a brand new place.
Steinbeck is trying to portray the disadvantage of a capitalist system through the landowners who are
taking advantage of small farmers and their family through the use of symbolism. Steinbeck may have
written this novel to show people what is going on at the time. An example from the book is how it
shows the consequences of a large business and the little people that it effects. In the beginning of the
book people are working on the land to survive.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays an important role in stimulating the growth potentials and
providing stability to the economy of Saudi Arabia. Our findings show that there are mainly four
factors which determine the net FDI flow to Saudi Arabia. These are GDP, Privatization, Import and
Export and Growth rate of GDP. There exists a positive relationship between FDI and GDP and GDP

2. LITERATURE REVIEW
Estimates reported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD,1997) suggest
that several countries have experienced very rapid growth of the private sector during the transition
period. A number of studies have suggested that investment and growth in developing economies is
positively associated with indicators of openness and export promotion (Balasubramanyam et al.,
1996). Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with relatively liberal trade regimes
and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions with wider supra national free trade
arrangements. De Mello (2000) analyzed the time series and panel data for 32 OECD and non OECD
countries for the period 1970 90. He estimated the impact of FDI on capital accumulation and output
growth in the recipient economy supporting the FDI led growth hypothesis. Similarly, Soto (2000);
Alfaro, Chanda, Kalelmi Ozcan, Sayek (2004); Li and Liu (2005) found positive impact of FDI on
GDP growth. They all used FDI measure as percentage of GDP. Liu et al. (2002) examined the long
run relationship between economic growth, FDI and trade in China. A study on the quarterly data for
imports,

Borges The Garden Of Forking Paths
From main ideas to details, the mention of time is the essence of Borges story, The Garden of Forking
Paths, and is its central theme. The story begins by discussing dates and timing of a military attack and
ends by mentioning the prior day s bombing of the artillery. The idea of time is essential to the story in
many ways, but especially the sequence of events told by Yu Tsun. When he first hears that Runeberg
has been killed, he goes into thought about time and how it affects man; Was I now going to die? Then
I reflected on everything that happens to a man precisely, precisely now. Centuries of centuries and

The story is about an angel who looks like a sickly elderly man with wings. Readers see how the
people of the neighborhood treat the angel throughout the story. They throw things at him, keep him in
a chicken coop, make him a freak show attraction, and treat him like a wild animal. However, on the
last page of the story, I found a passage that I consider significant to the story. The owner of the house
and property on which the angel fell, Pelayo, offers some humane treatment to the angel. [The angel]
could scarcely eat and his antiquarian eyes had also become so foggy that he went bumping into posts.
All he had left were the bare cannulae of his last feathers. Pelayo threw a blanket over him and
extended him the charity of letting him sleep in the shed (Marquez 932). Here, after the angel had
been a caged spectacle, Pelayo finally treats the angel as he would a human, not an animal. The theme
for this story could be humanity, or lack there of, and its consequences. The angel, in its sickly and
ugly state, could have been testing the people of the neighborhood and their humanity. As the people
continued to treat the angel poorly, the angel became sicker. However, once Pelayo treated the angel
with humanity, even in its unfortunate state, it regained enough strength to fly away. I believe this
small gesture of kindness saved the angel and/or completed

Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that
differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s

this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on

this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and interpretation of
his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German occupation,
Existentialism is a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where questions about
morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any many other) people.
Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean
Paul Sartre s work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term
Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After
rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify
just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian
detractors.
Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism, the
first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker of
Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept

Lord of the Flies a Microcosm to Our Society
William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies significantly symbolizes characters, objects and the setting
to represent our world as a whole. Golding uses those symbols to make the island similar to society
and to show the difference between living in a civilised society and savagery. The novel takes place on
an island during World War II, this is significant since the isolation forms a sort of civilization and
community, a sort of microcosm to the real world and to human civilization.
Lord of the Flies island is similar to our society in many ways. There are certain objects that link the
island and our society. Firstly William Golding portrays the conch as a symbol for power, order and
authority. This is because whoever holds it becomes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Is Johnny Tremain Different From The Book
The Movie, Johnny Tremain is drastically different from the book by Esther Forbes. There is at least
30 differences. The movie missed many characters and changed the main character, Johnny Lyte
Tremain. The differences did alter the character and almost made him seem like a different person. I
will focus on the characters that were missing that shaped the book and how Johnny was changed into
the same person, but it changed how we saw the character of Johnny Tremain.
Characters are a major part of any story, especially Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes. In the book, we
have prideful and wealthy Lavinia Lyte, confused and young Isannah Lapham, and gullible Dove.
Lavinia Lyte, the daughter of Merchant Lyte is arrogant and favors Isannah. She has Isannah live in
her house and be her doll. She has Cilla Lapham work for her as a maid. Lavinia is in court when
Merchant Lyte accuses Johnny of stealing his cup. She tells Johnny about his mother, Vinny Lyte .
Lavinia takes Isannah away from Cilla permanently and leaves to England at the end of the book. She
is not in the movie at all. It is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, we have Dove to show how Johnny changes. In the movie, he s not prideful in the
beginning. He s a good person, so we don t see how Rab or the Sons of Liberty impact him. In the
book, Dove intentionally gives Johnny a cracked crucible which causes his hand injury. In the movie,
Johnny burns his hand when he bumps into Mrs. Lapham. Another difference is that in the movie, his
hand is fixed by surgery before the war. Johnny actually fights alongside Rab in the war. Another
difference is that Rab doesn t die in the movie. In the book, when Johnny sees Rab die Dr. Warren
does surgery on Johnny s hand. Johnny takes Rab s musket and goes to fight. Johnny finds that he is
responsible to take Rab s place as a soldier after Rab s death. It casts responsibility on

For Bacon, his utopia is a society whose culture venerates science and scientists. Where science is not at odds with religion, and scientific advancement is very rapid. Bacon s society is also vastly Christian, with the only non Christian being Bartholomew, a father of Solomon s House who s Jewish. Cavendish, who also appreciates the scientific method doesn t put as much focus on it as Bacon does. Cavendish s society put s far more focus on society who exalts their monarch with almost the same respect as a deity, social unification through said monarch and a nondenominational god. Although the musical did not have a strong plot or much character growth, the musical had something new that audiences had never seen before. Together, Prince and Sondheim created the concept musical, which had a profound effect on Broadway for years to come. Through research, I will travel back to the beginning stages of Sondheim and Prince s start of the concept musical, then venture to the 1970 s collaborations, and finally look to the effects that the concept musical had for the future creators. Being trained by George Abbott and Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince directed over twenty musicals on Broadway and often produced his own work. Prince became associated with the term concept musical when he created Cabaret in 1968. The Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change advice for policy makers is a book with various statistics and facts about what the scientific community has been noticing about the changing environment. The hope for the panel when making this booklet is that they could help guide policy makers towards making more informed decisions about their policies and the effect it is having on the environment. While some of the evidence is almost indisputable many politicians still argue their validity due to personal beliefs or because they receive campaign donations from companies who do not want to see environmental policies change. The booklet is split up into three different parts, observations of the changes in the environment around us, future risks these changes can have, and how to manage these risks and build a sustainable planet for everybody. The booklet describes many various pieces of evidence from what they have seen around the world and have even rated their certainty on their hypothesizes. The section starts out about how the global temperature has been increasing rapidly over the past century. They also state that the reason the temperature has been rising is due to human activity and the rise in the amount of greenhouse gases that we release. • 10. Good vs. Evil in John Cheever s The Five-Forty-Eight Essay Good vs. Evil in John Cheever s The Five Forty Eight John Cheever was an award winning American author of the twentieth century. His work often possessed psychological and religious vision with central themes of sin, deception, and redemption (Kennedy, 551). Cheever s short story entitled The Five Forty Eight portrays a struggle of good vs. evil. Following the themes of sin, deception, and redemption, we read of a young woman (good) seeking revenge for the evil done to her. Through the course of the story the reader can distinguish between the traits of good and evil. The Webster s dictionary defines evil as that which is morally wrong. Blake has some distinct morality issues. Blake, the evil force in the story, possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His relationships are not the only area of his life that we see Blake?s evil nature rise. There are subtle hints of his self obsession throughout Cheever?s story. Early on in the story, Blake is admiring himself in a plate glass window and sees himself with ?a clear reflection? and the crowds ?like shadows at his back? (551). He then sees Mrs. Dent as a ?contorted being? (551) in the same window. Blake sees himself as a flawless creature of complete perfection with the mass of city pedestrians as a blur behind his faultlessness, and he can easily pick out the imperfections in other individuals. He sees himself as the ultimate perfection, instead of seeing the negative impact he has on his friends and family. His negative interactions with friends and family are the evil force that breaks his relationships. There is no mention of any moral actions performed by him. We find yet another example of Blake?s immoral actions through his self conceit. He fails to comfort a crying Mrs. Dent, ?he felt too contented and warm and sleepy to worry about her tears? (553). Blake has no compassion for others; he only worries about his own affairs. This is indicative that Blake is morally wrong. Blake so genuinely sees himself as perfect that it is virtually impossible for him to accept any minor mistakes he makes. When he first comes across Mrs. Dent after their affair, he is surprised to find that he cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Human Race Capturing Marine Animals The earliest records of the human race capturing marine animals, specifically fish, dates back over 40,000 years to the Upper Paleolithic time period (Endangered). Initially, fishing and harvesting aquatic animals was for the sole purpose of survival and means of finding food. Fast forward 40,000 years and fishing has shifted from a necessity to big business, wiping out the majority of oceanic resources and setting the marine apocalypse for the year 2048, when ecologists predict all species of fish will have gone extinct. Oceanic resources are dwindling at a rapid rate. The pending bioethical question is this: should further restrictions on fishing be implemented in the global fishing industry, as well as sport fishing? The answer is still up for debate. Because of overfishing, populations of saltwater fish have dwindled to surprisingly low numbers. But what of the few populations of people that still depend on fishing for food? And what of people who fish for sport, but only keep their legal limit? And how will placing restrictions affect both regional and global seafood economies? In 2005, 24.1 million tons of seafood were available for consumption in North America alone, with an astounding 107 million tons worldwide (Overfishing). And how would restricting fisheries affect worldwide health? Nearly 16% of the world s protein consumption is provided by fisheries. Despite Washington s advice to the nation, political parties and foreign affairs were yet established that divided the nation into two opposing factions: Federalists and Republicans. The Federalists, led mainly by Alexander Hamilton, were the citizens who favored the Constitution. Anti Federalists, on the other hand, were the citizens who opposed the ratification of the Constitution and sided with Jefferson to form the Democratic Republican Party. While Federalists envisioned America with a strong, complex, and centralized government, Republicans wanted America to remain a small federal government where states and local governments held the majority of the power. Many of the Federalist plans were centered around the idea of a strong, centralized government that was effective and organized in the way it ran. Those who were Federalists, generally, were people of professions and advocates of commercial interest. Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with relatively liberal trade regimes and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions with wider supra national free trade arrangements. De Mello (2000) analyzed the time series and panel data for 32 OECD and non OECD countries for the period 1970 90. He estimated the impact of FDI on capital accumulation and output growth in the recipient economy supporting the FDI led growth hypothesis. Similarly, Soto (2000); Alfaro, Chanda, Kalelmi Ozcan, Sayek (2004); Li and Liu (2005) found positive impact of FDI on GDP growth. They all used FDI measure as percentage of GDP. Liu et al. (2002) examined the long run relationship between economic growth, FDI and trade in China. A study on the quarterly data for imports, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Borges The Garden Of Forking Paths From main ideas to details, the mention of time is the essence of Borges story, The Garden of Forking Paths, and is its central theme. The story begins by discussing dates and timing of a military attack and ends by mentioning the prior day s bombing of the artillery. The idea of time is essential to the story in many ways, but especially the sequence of events told by Yu Tsun. When he first hears that Runeberg has been killed, he goes into thought about time and how it affects man; Was I now going to die? Then I reflected on everything that happens to a man precisely, precisely now. Centuries of centuries and only in the present do things happen... (Borges 653). Readers see how the people of the neighborhood treat the angel throughout the story. They throw things at him, keep him in a chicken coop, make him a freak show attraction, and treat him like a wild animal. However, on the last page of the story, I found a passage that I consider significant to the story. The owner of the house and property on which the angel fell, Pelayo, offers some humane treatment to the angel. [The angel] could scarcely eat and his antiquarian eyes had also become so foggy that he went bumping into posts. All he had left were the bare cannulae of his last feathers. Pelayo threw a blanket over him and extended him the charity of letting him sleep in the shed (Marquez 932). Here, after the angel had been a caged spectacle, Pelayo finally treats the angel as he would a human, not an animal. The theme for this story could be humanity, or lack there of, and its consequences. The angel, in its sickly and ugly state, could have been testing the people of the neighborhood and their humanity. As the people continued to treat the angel poorly, the angel became sicker. However, once Pelayo treated the angel with humanity, even in its unfortunate state, it regained enough strength to fly away. I believe this small gesture of kindness saved the angel and/or completed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on their income, this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the brunt of that discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses familiarity with the problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight this issue are Why is Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The Logic of Stupid Poor People by Tressie McMillan Cottom. In Sengupta s article she discusses the simple, yet iconic hoodie often worn by Mark Zuckerberg and why it is so much more than it seems. Sartre s Existentialism And Existentialism As a continuation of the course assignment, in the following paper, I shall examine Sartre s Existentialism is a Humanism and give a framework of concepts and reasons as to why it is existentialist in nature. Whereas the last paper chronologically organized Sartre s life and experiences, this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and interpretation of his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German occupation, Existentialism is a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where questions about morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any many other) people. Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean Paul Sartre s work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian detractors. Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism, the first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker of Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
