DLF Aquifer MODS Implementation Guidelines

Web archiving has become imperative to ensure that our digital heritage does not disappear forever, yet many institutions have not begun this work. In addition, archived websites are not easily discoverable, which severely limits their use. To address this challenge, OCLC Research has established the OCLC Research Library Partnership Web Archiving Metadata Working Group to develop a data dictionary that will be compatible with library and archives standards. Three reports on this project are available in July 2017, focused on metadata best practices guidelines, user needs and behaviors, and evaluation of web archiving tools.

In this talk, Getaneh aims to present four overarching metadata principles, namely: metadata enriching, linking, openness and filtering. And how these ideas help shape the metadata creation and discovery services at Solent University – focusing on the implementation of RDA and FRBR as well as the use of subject headings and authority controls.

Digital Commons Institutional Repository: Roles for Library Liaisons
The document discusses plans to launch an institutional repository (IR) called DigiNole Commons at Florida State University to promote open access of scholarly works. Linked Open Data for Cultural Heritage
This paper surveys the landscape of linked open data projects in cultural heritage, exam- ining the work of groups from around the world. Traditionally, linked open data has been ranked using the five star method proposed by Tim Berners-Lee. We found this ranking to be lacking when evaluating how cultural heritage groups not merely develop linked open datasets, but find ways to used linked data to augment user experience. Building on the five-star method, we developed a six-stage life cycle describing both dataset development and dataset usage. We use this framework to describe and evaluate fifteen linked open data projects in the realm of cultural heritage.

Information technology and resources are an integral and indispensable part of the contemporary academic enterprise. In particular, technological advances have nurtured a new paradigm of data-intensive research. However, far too much of this activity still takes place in silos, to the detriment of open scholarly inquiry, integrity, and advancement. To counteract this tendency, the University of California Curation Center (UC3) has been developing and deploying a comprehensive suite of curation services that facilitate widespread data management, preservation, publication, sharing, and reuse. Through these services UC3 is engaging with new communities of use: in addition to its traditional stakeholders in cultural heritage memory organizations, e.g., libraries, museums, and archives, the UC3 service suite is now attracting significant adoption by research projects, laboratories, and individual faculty researchers. This webinar will present an introduction to five specific services – DMPTool, DataUp, EZID, Merritt, Web Archiving Service (WAS) – applicable to data curation throughout the scholarly lifecycle, two recent initiatives in collaboration with UC campuses, UC Berkeley Research Hub and UC San Francisco DataShare, and the ways in which they encourage and promote new communities of practice and greater transparency in scholarly research.Networking Repositories, Optimizing Impact: Georgia Knowledge Repository Meeting
