We decided to look at Submarine as an inspiration for our film as we find the character to be interesting
and engaging, as he is a social outcast who tries to fit in. We find his quirkiness a major reason for
finding the film enjoyable. We want to try and emulate this likability in our own character. We also
found some of the key points in the plot to be similar to ours, such as feeling alone and then finding a
romantic interest that helps him come out of his shell.
We also feel that the personality of the character is well received
through the voice-over in the trailer as it creates a personal,
meaningful connection.

We decided to look at This Is England as another inspiration for our film due to the
likeable characters and gripping storyline. We want to emulate a similar feel in our own
film. We also want our trailer to be fast paced and have our protagonists voice
throughout the majority of the trailer.

We decided to look at Brighton Rock as it is a British film and can help us get
insight into how British films are portrayed. The film is filmed so the lighting
appears dark, possibly to link with the dark undertones of the film plot. It is
information like this we can use to make our trailer more credible.

5.  We have decided to release our production with STUDIO CANAL
(new name for Optimum Releasing) as it contributed majorly with
the release of both THIS IS ENGLAND and SUBMARINE, both of
which heavily influence our production. We decided upon this as
they distribute many social realism films, and the company is
British, based in London. They release independent British, Irish
and American films in the UK and sometimes Ireland, through
Optimum Releasing under the strand 'Optimum Classic'.
In September 2011, the company was renamed StudioCanal UK.
