 For our film we decided to represent a small
budget production company, we would want
a maximum budget of about £1 million.
 TMC is an independent production company
who employs unknown actors creating low
budget films in the hope of having great
success and maximising profit.
 We made this production company as we
needed one to put in our titles and by
creating our own company we had the power
to to create an animated sequence at the start
of our film that reflected what we wanted.
 We decided to be a low budget production
company through mainly our storyline. Our
storyline does not require a great amount of
money to achieve an effective and successful
film.
 Through research we have discovered films
that have all been shot with low budgets, that
have become a great success. Such films that
we researched were films like John Carpenters
‘Halloween’ and ‘The blair witch project’ and
of course our main film idol ‘Paranormal
activity’ which was created for a tiny budget
of just £15,000.
 The Blair Witch Project (1999)
 American horror film written and directed
by Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick.
 The film was produced by the Haxan
Films production company.
 The story of three student filmmakers who
disappeared while hiking in the Black Hills
near Burkittsville, Maryland in 1994 to film a
documentary about a local legend known as the Blair
Witch. The viewers are told the three were never seen
or heard from again, although their video and sound
equipment (along with most of the footage they
shot) was discovered a year later by the police
department and that this "recovered footage" is the
film the viewer is watching
 The film received a positive reception from
critics and went on to gross over US$248
million worldwide, making it one of the most
successful independent movies of all time.
 It was created with a low budget of $60,000
creating just under $200,000,000 revenue.
 Originally an independent feature film and
given film festival screenings in 2007, the
film was acquired by Paramount Pictures and
modified, particularly with a new ending.
 It was given a limited U.S. release on
September 25, 2009, and then a nationwide
release on October 16, 2009. $193 million. It
is seen as one of the most profitable films
ever made.
 Paranormal Activity’s success made us realise
that because the budget was so low, the
audience seemed to feel a relation to the film
and it seemed more realistic, a great amount
of fear can be created due to the audience.
 The same effect happened with the Blair
Witch project. The audience was told that the
film was real footage from 3 students lost in
the woods.
 Because of this it creates a great amount of
fear as it is more real for the audience.
 The distributor that we chose to deliver our
film was Film 4 Productions, this is a UK
based company associated with channel 4.
 Over the years they have produced many
different films both medium and low budget.
 We decided that our distributer would be Film
4 productions as they have produced many
low budget successful films for example
‘Attack the block’, and we could imagine our
film becoming a great success with them.
 Film 4 is a successful production and has
distributed over 100 films including ‘Attack
the block’ and the recent box office success
‘12 years a slave’
 In our film we have named the 3 main
actors, Mark Mulcahy, Danielle Robert and
Helen Mulcahy. all of these are not big names
and are all new actors.
 Because of this we decided not to put their
names throughout the opening first 2
minutes as they are not big enough names to
headline the film.
