Market position and competitors
Celador is only a small production company although they are actually
successful. They have released seven films in ten years. Even though
Celador is a small company it has big competitors.
One of their big competitors is Sony Pictures Entertainment. Sony
released a film called The Smurfs, it was released on 24th July 2011.
The film made $110,000,000. $563.7 million.
Another big competitors is Film4. Film4 released a film called This Is
England. The film made £1,500,000. It had a £25,000 profit.
Another big competitors is DNA. DNA made a film called 28 Days Later.
The film made $8,000,000. £57,000,000
Celador isn’t more successful than Sony because Sony is a world wide
company and it also has bigger budgets allowing them to have world
wide appeal. Although Celador is more successful than Film4 because
Film4’s This Is England made a loss more than a profit.
Operating Model
Pathe would co fund by getting money from banks and
private investments and give it to Celador so they had
enough money to make The descent into a film.
In order for Celador to make The Descent they had to co
fund the film, they invested half the budget from their
own profits made from other media products. They sold
the distribution rights to Pathe for the Descent before the
film was made to use that money to produce the film.
Celador does not like to use a in house Production team.
They have to hire freelancers on a project by project
basis.
