2. What is Illegal Drugs?
› Drugs are substances that change a person’s mental or
physical state. They can affect the way your brain works,
how you feel and behave, your understanding and your
senses. This makes them unpredictable and dangerous,
especially for young people.
How do Drugs Made?
Plants - for example, cannabis (marijuana), mushrooms, or
tobacco
processed plant products – for example, alcohol, or heroin
synthetic chemicals – for example, ecstasy or
amphetamines.

1. active ingredients – the ingredients that biologically affect
your body
- Active ingredients include those components of the
product that may undergo chemical change during the
manufacture of the drug product and be present in the drug
product in a modified form intended to furnish the specified
activity or effect.
2. inactive ingredients – these generally have no biological
effect. They include binding agents, capsules, dyes, preservatives,
flavourings and other ingredients
-inactive ingredients are necessary components for any
medication. They not only play an important role in drug
composition, they can help with absorption, delivery, and much
more!

5. What is Drug Addiction?
› It is really only this expression of addiction – Uncontrollable,
Compulsive Craving, Seeking and Using of Drugs. These are the
elements responsible for the massive health and social
problems caused by drug addiction.
Causes/Symptoms:
Drug Addiction symptoms or behaviors include among others:
• Feeling that you have to use the drug regularly – daily or even several times
a day
• Over time, needing more of the drug to get the same effect
• Failing inn your attempts to stop using drug

6. What is Drug Addiction?
› Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease
that affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an
inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or
medication
› In 2021, there were about 41.5 thousand reported cases
involving illegal drugs in the Philippines, majority of which
were reported by the National Capital Region's (NCR) regional
police office. Reported cases of illegal drugs in the region
reached around 12.4 thousand.

› Facts about Drug (most commonly is Shabu)
– Methamphetamine HCL, a type of amphetamine is also known as
“poor man’s cocaine”. Other names are Shabu, Ubas, Siopao, Sha and
Ice. Shabu is a white, odorless crystal or crystalline powder with a
bitter numbing taste.
– Abusers are known to take this drug by ingestion inhalation (chasing
the dragon), sniffing (snorting) or by injection. Amphetamines are
regularly absorbed orally and are associated with a rapid onset of
action, usually within one hour when taken orally. If taken
intravenously or through injection, they have an almost immediate
effect.

› LONG TERM EFFECTS
– Psychiatric consequence are the major feature of chronic “shabu”
abuse and dependency. Prolonged use and even a single exposure
especially if administered intravenously can lead to manifestation of a
full blown psychosis which is similar to schizophrenia characterized by
the presence of paranoid delusions, auditory and visual
hallucinations. The paranoia may lead to violent and aggressive
behavior.
