This document analyzes transformer differential currents using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) during various operating conditions. It simulates a 2 kVA transformer system in MATLAB and analyzes the DWT of differential currents during magnetizing inrush, internal faults, switching, and over-fluxing. Statistical features are extracted from the DWT coefficients, which could be used as inputs for a classifier to distinguish between fault and non-fault conditions for improved differential protection. The analysis found that no single statistical feature was sufficient and that using multiple features from different decomposition levels may help classification.

Dynamic model of zeta converter with full state feedback controller implement...eSAT Journals
Abstract Zeta converter is a fourth order dc-dc converter that can increases (step-up) or decreases (step-down) the input voltage. By considering dynamic model of the converter, the accuracy of the converter’s modeling and simulation are increased thus make it easier to produce the hardware version of the converter. State-space approach is a time-domain method for modeling, analyzing, and designing a wide range of systems which can be described by differential equations or difference equations. This gives great advantages because it particularly suited for digital computer implementation for their time-domain approach and vector-matrix description. The converter needs feedback control to regulate its output voltage. This paper presents the dynamic model of zeta converter. The converter is modeled using state-space averaging (SSA) technique. Full-state feedback controller is implemented on the converter to regulate the output voltage. The simulation results are presented to verify the accuracy of the modeling and the steady-state performance subjected to input and load disturbances. EFFECT OF EQUAL AND MISMATCHED SIGNAL TRANSITION TIME ON POWER DISSIPATION IN...VLSICS Design
High density chips have introduced problems like crosstalk noise and power dissipation. The mismatching in transition time of the inputs occurs because different lengths of interconnects lead to different parasitic values. This paper presents the analysis of the effect of equal and unequal (mismatched) transition time of inputs on power dissipation in coupled interconnects. Further, the effect of signal skew on transition time is analysed. To demonstrate the effects, a model of two distributed RLC lines coupled capacitively and inductively is taken into consideration. Each interconnect line is 4mm long and terminated by capacitive load of 30fF. The analysis is carried out for simultaneously switching lines. The results are obtained through SPICE simulations and waveforms are generated.

Performance Improvement of Multi Level Inverter fed Vector Controlled Inducti...IJPEDS-IAES
In this paper, the analysis of space vector based multi level inverter (MLI) fed vector controlled induction motor drive for a low speed operation is presented. The performance of indirect field oriented controlled induction motor drive (IMD) is poor with two-level inverter for low speed operations (LSO). The reduction in performance and peak value of torque are mainly due to the non-linearity caused by stator voltage drop and inverter. Hence the performance factors of induction motor drive are analyzed with the multi level inverters under different operating conditions. In this approach, the steady state ripple content in the current and torque waveforms are reduced and that to ripple content of torque is reduced from 0.15 to 0.05 under steady state with five-level inverter. When there is a step change in the load torque, the momentary decrease in speed with five-level inverter is less when compared two and three-level inverters and the speed response reaches the reference value very quickly with five-level inverter during steady state and transient periods. So the overall performance of drive is improved with five- level inverter when compared to two-level and three- level inverters under low speed operations.

Line and Grid Impedance Impact on the Performances of a Parallel Connected Mo...IAES-IJPEDS
With the rising fuel cost, increasing demand of power and the concerns for global climate change, the use of clean energy make the connection of power electronics building bloc in the heart of the current research. The high output current applications make the parallel connection of modular inverters to be a solution for the use of low power building block inverters where the output power cannot be handled by a single inverter configuration. In this context, average-modeling using average phase–leg technique allows the n-parallel connected inverters to be analyzed accurately and rapidly without requiring the complexity of the full switched inverter topology. The obtained analytical solution along with the equivalent circuit model makes easier the design of the control loop. The analytical solution of the n-parallel connected inverters shows the impact of the line and grid impedance on the performance of the overall system. The impact of this coupling has to be investigated such that the main feature of paralleling inverters is guaranteed and that the inverter mode of operation will not be compromised. The main advantage of paralleling inverters can be lost for a certain coupling impedance considerations.

Multilevel inverter fed induction motor driveseSAT Journals
Abstract Induction motor drive is used in almost all industries including oil and gas sectors, production plants and process industries. Speed control of induction motor is a major concern. The proposed technology implements a better speed control for induction motor drives using a multilevel inverter. The switching sequences are generated by optimized pre-calculated angles for controlling induction motor. And also with the use of a multi-level inverter there is lower distortion of output voltages and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of machine currents under steady state operating conditions can be minimized. THD can be further reduced by optimizing the switching angles. This technology can be extended to higher levels of output voltages by using an n state multilevel inverter. In this paper, a seven level multilevel inverter is proposed, its simulation is done in MATLAB/Simulink and the results were verified by experimenting on a hardware prototype. This could be extended to higher levels of voltage waveform and can be used in photovoltaics. A multilevel inverter could be a better choice as a dc-dc converter in solar power circuits. Keywords: Multilevel inverter, optimal pulse with modulation, total harmonic d1istortion.

Fault identification in transformer windingeSAT Journals
Abstract Transformer fault detection during impulse tests has always been an important topic in power engineering. Transformers connected to overhead lines are often prone to lightning strikes and resulting winding damage. For assessment of their insulation strength against such impulse stresses they are usually subjected to lightning impulse tests after assembly. In the case of a fault inside the winding, the shape of the winding current changes as compared to that of a healthy winding. The pattern of the fault current depends on the type of fault and its location along the length of the winding. This paper investigates Conventional procedures of fault diagnosis involved visual examination of the oscillographic records in time-domain and also applying the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm to analyze the transformer ‘fingerprint’ in the frequency-domain. Control analysis of a high frequency resonant inverter for induction cooking ...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Stability of three possible close-loop control of a series resonant inverter is studied for induction cooking application. Ultimately,
a single close-loop control technique is proposed in this work which can ensure both the power control as well as a satisfactory
zero voltage switching (ZVS) in a finite control range near the operating point. A phase shift controlled series resonant inverter is
used as a power supply for an induction cooking system. Its linearized model is developed for small signal analysis and a PID
controller is designed for the proposed close-loop control and its performances are judged under various operating conditions
using MATLAB/Simulink® platform.

Implementation and control of integral cycle controller for resistance spot w...eSAT Journals
Abstract: The Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) process requires simultaneous application of high electrical current and appropriate pressure over short periods in order to keep the molten material inside the weld zone. Values of these parameters vary in function of the characteristics of the materials to be welded. The application of the electrical current is by means of two copper electrodes brought in contact with the welded parts while the required pressure is applied by means of pneumatic or hydraulic systems. This paper presents the simulation, design, and control of resistance welding system which is used for performing a welding process. The paper is discussed about two aspects. First, simulation of the concept of ICC used for the specific application of RSW. Secondly, the critical factor and method employed for the implementation of the controller. This paper also discuss about the implementation methodology of the RSW. The simulation for the RSW is carried out in PROTEUS software.

Analysis of multiport dc dc converter in renewable energy sourceseSAT Journals
Abstract Multi-port DC-DC converter has attracted special interest in applications where multiple energy sources are used. In this project, a three-port converter with three active full bridges, two LCC resonant tanks, and a three-winding transformer is proposed. It uses a single power conversion stage with high-frequency link to control power flow between batteries, load, and a renewable source such as solar cell. The converter has capabilities of bidirectional power flow in the battery and the load port. The converter has high efficiency due to soft-switching operation in all three bridges. Design procedure for the three-port converter is explained and experimental results are presented. Index Terms— Bidirectional power, phase-shift control at constant switching frequency, soft-switching operation, three-port converter, LCC resonant converter, three-winding transformer.

Two parallel single phase rectifiers by using single phase to three phase ind...eSAT Journals
Abstract A single-phase to three-phase drive system composed of two parallel single-phase rectifiers, a three-phase inverter and an induction motor was proposed. The system combines two parallel rectifiers without the use of transformers. The system model and the control strategy, including the PWM technique, have been developed. The complete comparison between the proposed and standard configurations has been carried out in this paper. Compared to the conventional topology, the proposed system permits to reduce the rectifier switch currents, the THD of the grid current with same switching frequency or the switching frequency with same THD of the grid current and to increase the fault tolerance characteristics. In addition, the losses of the proposed system may be lower than that of the conventional counterpart. The initial investment of the proposed system (due to high number of semiconductor devices) cannot be considered a drawback, especially considering the scenario where the cited advantages justify such initial investment. The experimental results have shown that the system is controlled properly, even with transient and occurrence of fault

Material management in construction – a case studyeSAT Journals
Abstract
The objective of the present study is to understand about all the problems occurring in the company because of improper application
of material management. In construction project operation, often there is a project cost variance in terms of the material, equipments,
manpower, subcontractor, overhead cost, and general condition. Material is the main component in construction projects. Therefore,
if the material management is not properly managed it will create a project cost variance. Project cost can be controlled by taking
corrective actions towards the cost variance. Therefore a methodology is used to diagnose and evaluate the procurement process
involved in material management and launch a continuous improvement was developed and applied. A thorough study was carried
out along with study of cases, surveys and interviews to professionals involved in this area. As a result, a methodology for diagnosis
and improvement was proposed and tested in selected projects. The results obtained show that the main problem of procurement is
related to schedule delays and lack of specified quality for the project. To prevent this situation it is often necessary to dedicate
important resources like money, personnel, time, etc. To monitor and control the process. A great potential for improvement was
detected if state of the art technologies such as, electronic mail, electronic data interchange (EDI), and analysis were applied to the
procurement process. These helped to eliminate the root causes for many types of problems that were detected.

Life cycle cost analysis of overlay for an urban road in bangaloreeSAT Journals
Abstract
Pavements are subjected to severe condition of stresses and weathering effects from the day they are constructed and opened to traffic
mainly due to its fatigue behavior and environmental effects. Therefore, pavement rehabilitation is one of the most important
components of entire road systems. This paper highlights the design of concrete pavement with added mono fibers like polypropylene,
steel and hybrid fibres for a widened portion of existing concrete pavement and various overlay alternatives for an existing
bituminous pavement in an urban road in Bangalore. Along with this, Life cycle cost analyses at these sections are done by Net
Present Value (NPV) method to identify the most feasible option. The results show that though the initial cost of construction of
concrete overlay is high, over a period of time it prove to be better than the bituminous overlay considering the whole life cycle cost.
The economic analysis also indicates that, out of the three fibre options, hybrid reinforced concrete would be economical without
compromising the performance of the pavement.

Laboratory investigation of expansive soil stabilized with natural inorganic ...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Soil stabilization has proven to be one of the oldest techniques to improve the soil properties. Literature review conducted revealed
that uses of natural inorganic stabilizers are found to be one of the best options for soil stabilization. In this regard an attempt has
been made to evaluate the influence of RBI-81 stabilizer on properties of black cotton soil through laboratory investigations. Black
cotton soil with varying percentages of RBI-81 viz., 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 percent were studied for moisture density relationships
and strength behaviour of soils. Also the effect of curing period was evaluated as literature review clearly emphasized the strength
gain of soils stabilized with RBI-81 over a period of time. The results obtained shows that the unconfined compressive strength of
specimens treated with RBI-81 increased approximately by 250% for a curing period of 28 days as compared to virgin soil. Further
the CBR value improved approximately by 400%. The studies indicated an increasing trend for soil strength behaviour with
increasing percentage of RBI-81 suggesting its potential applications in soil stabilization.
Influence of reinforcement on the behavior of hollow concrete block masonry p...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Reinforced masonry was developed to exploit the strength potential of masonry and to solve its lack of tensile strength. Experimental
and analytical studies have been carried out to investigate the effect of reinforcement on the behavior of hollow concrete block
masonry prisms under compression and to predict ultimate failure compressive strength. In the numerical program, three dimensional
non-linear finite elements (FE) model based on the micro-modeling approach is developed for both unreinforced and reinforced
masonry prisms using ANSYS (14.5). The proposed FE model uses multi-linear stress-strain relationships to model the non-linear
behavior of hollow concrete block, mortar, and grout. Willam-Warnke’s five parameter failure theory has been adopted to model the
failure of masonry materials. The comparison of the numerical and experimental results indicates that the FE models can successfully
capture the highly nonlinear behavior of the physical specimens and accurately predict their strength and failure mechanisms.

Influence of compaction energy on soil stabilized with chemical stabilizereSAT Journals
Abstract
Increase in traffic along with heavier magnitude of wheel loads cause rapid deterioration in pavements. There is a need to improve
density, strength of soil subgrade and other pavement layers. In this study an attempt is made to improve the properties of locally
available loamy soil using twin approaches viz., i) increasing the compaction of soil and ii) treating the soil with chemical stabilizer.
Laboratory studies are carried out on both untreated and treated soil samples compacted by different compaction efforts. Studies
show that increase in compaction effort results in increase in density of soil. However in soil treated with chemical stabilizer, rate of
increase in density is not significant. The soil treated with chemical stabilizer exhibits improvement in both strength and performance
properties.

Water resources projects are inherited with overlapping and at times conflicting objectives. These projects are often of varied sizes
ranging from major projects with command areas of millions of hectares to very small projects implemented at the local level. Thus,
in all these projects there is seldom proper coordination which is essential for ensuring collective sustainability.
Integrated watershed development and management is the accepted answer but in turn requires a comprehensive framework that can
enable planning process involving all the stakeholders at different levels and scales is compulsory. Such a unified hydrological
framework is essential to evaluate the cause and effect of all the proposed actions within the drainage basins.
The present paper describes a hydrological framework developed in the form of a Hydrologic Information System (HIS) which is
intended to meet the specific information needs of the various line departments of a typical State connected with water related aspects.
The HIS consist of a hydrologic information database coupled with tools for collating primary and secondary data and tools for
analyzing and visualizing the data and information. The HIS also incorporates hydrological model base for indirect assessment of
various entities of water balance in space and time. The framework would be maintained and updated to reflect fully the most

Abstract
Composite Circular hollow Steel tubes with and without GFRP infill for three different grades of Light weight concrete are tested for
ultimate load capacity and axial shortening , under Cyclic loading. Steel tubes are compared for different lengths, cross sections and
thickness. Specimens were tested separately after adopting Taguchi’s L9 (Latin Squares) Orthogonal array in order to save the initial
experimental cost on number of specimens and experimental duration. Analysis was carried out using ANN (Artificial Neural
Network) technique with the assistance of Mini Tab- a statistical soft tool. Comparison for predicted, experimental & ANN output is
obtained from linear regression plots. From this research study, it can be concluded that *Cross sectional area of steel tube has most
significant effect on ultimate load carrying capacity, *as length of steel tube increased- load carrying capacity decreased & *ANN
modeling predicted acceptable results. Thus ANN tool can be utilized for predicting ultimate load carrying capacity for composite

Evaluation of punching shear in flat slabseSAT Journals
Abstract
Flat-slab construction has been widely used in construction today because of many advantages that it offers. The basic philosophy in
the design of flat slab is to consider only gravity forces; this method ignores the effect of punching shear due to unbalanced moments
at the slab column junction which is critical. An attempt has been made to generate generalized design sheets which accounts both
punching shear due to gravity loads and unbalanced moments for cases (a) interior column; (b) edge column (bending perpendicular
to shorter edge); (c) edge column (bending parallel to shorter edge); (d) corner column. These design sheets are prepared as per
codal provisions of IS 456-2000. These design sheets will be helpful in calculating the shear reinforcement to be provided at the
critical section which is ignored in many design offices. Apart from its usefulness in evaluating punching shear and the necessary
shear reinforcement, the design sheets developed will enable the designer to fix the depth of flat slab during the initial phase of the
design.

Estimation of surface runoff in nallur amanikere watershed using scs cn methodeSAT Journals
Abstract
The development of watershed aims at productive utilization of all the available natural resources in the entire area extending from
ridge line to stream outlet. The per capita availability of land for cultivation has been decreasing over the years. Therefore, water and
the related land resources must be developed, utilized and managed in an integrated and comprehensive manner. Remote sensing and
GIS techniques are being increasingly used for planning, management and development of natural resources. The study area, Nallur
Amanikere watershed geographically lies between 110 38’ and 110 52’ N latitude and 760 30’ and 760 50’ E longitude with an area of
415.68 Sq. km. The thematic layers such as land use/land cover and soil maps were derived from remotely sensed data and overlayed
through ArcGIS software to assign the curve number on polygon wise. The daily rainfall data of six rain gauge stations in and around
the watershed (2001-2011) was used to estimate the daily runoff from the watershed using Soil Conservation Service - Curve Number

Effect of variation of plastic hinge length on the results of non linear anal...eSAT Journals
Abstract The nonlinear Static procedure also well known as pushover analysis is method where in monotonically increasing loads are applied to the structure till the structure is unable to resist any further load. It is a popular tool for seismic performance evaluation of existing and new structures. In literature lot of research has been carried out on conventional pushover analysis and after knowing deficiency efforts have been made to improve it. But actual test results to verify the analytically obtained pushover results are rarely available. It has been found that some amount of variation is always expected to exist in seismic demand prediction of pushover analysis. Initial study is carried out by considering user defined hinge properties and default hinge length. Attempt is being made to assess the variation of pushover analysis results by considering user defined hinge properties and various hinge length formulations available in literature and results compared with experimentally obtained results based on test carried out on a G+2 storied RCC framed structure. For the present study two geometric models viz bare frame and rigid frame model is considered and it is found that the results of pushover analysis are very sensitive to geometric model and hinge length adopted. Effect of use of recycled materials on indirect tensile strength of asphalt c...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Depletion of natural resources and aggregate quarries for the road construction is a serious problem to procure materials. Hence
recycling or reuse of material is beneficial. On emphasizing development in sustainable construction in the present era, recycling of
asphalt pavements is one of the effective and proven rehabilitation processes. For the laboratory investigations reclaimed asphalt
pavement (RAP) from NH-4 and crumb rubber modified binder (CRMB-55) was used. Foundry waste was used as a replacement to
conventional filler. Laboratory tests were conducted on asphalt concrete mixes with 30, 40, 50, and 60 percent replacement with RAP.
These test results were compared with conventional mixes and asphalt concrete mixes with complete binder extracted RAP
aggregates. Mix design was carried out by Marshall Method. The Marshall Tests indicated highest stability values for asphalt
concrete (AC) mixes with 60% RAP. The optimum binder content (OBC) decreased with increased in RAP in AC mixes. The Indirect
Tensile Strength (ITS) for AC mixes with RAP also was found to be higher when compared to conventional AC mixes at 300C.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Abstract
Abstract The conventional differential relay has been used to detect the internal faults within the transformer. But, in field certain
mal-functioning of differential relay has been reported which results in unnecessary tripping of differential relay. This leads to the
need for development of improved classifier technique. But, for that all possible operating conditions of transformer has to be
studied. In this paper, the Authors have used discrete wavelet transform to analyze the transformer differential current during
various operating conditions, since wavelet transform gives good information about frequency and time domain simultaneously.
Certain statistical features have been extracted from the decomposed signals and they can be used as an input to the improved
classifier algorithm Daubechies 6 is used as mother wavelet for the analysis using DWT and signal has been decomposed up to
level 4

1. INTRODUCTION
For detecting internal faults in transformer, differential
protection is used. The differential relay should detect the
faults inside the transformer protection zone correctly and
also with a high degree of immunity to operating conditions
for which tripping is not required [1], [2]. There are certain
conditions which cause needless operation of over-current
relay in differential circuit such as switching inrush
condition, recovery inrush condition, sympathetic inrush
condition, over-fluxing.
Conventionally, harmonic restrain feature is used in
percentage bias differential relay to give stability to delay
operation during charging condition or over-fluxing
condition. But, due to the improvement in modern day core
material used in transformer and due to parallel distributed
capacitance of EHV transmission line, the conventional
harmonic restrain based differential relay causes mal-
operation [3], [4].
This paper presents the application of discrete wavelet
transform for the analysis of differential currents for various
operating conditions, since magnetizing inrush and fault
currents are non-periodic fast electro-magnetic transients
and are not stationary signals i.e. they have different
frequency components at different intervals of time. In this
paper, the physical model of a two winding, 2 kVA, 50 Hz,
230 V/ 230 V single phase transformer is simulated in
MATLAB Simulink environment for various operating
conditions. From the various decomposition levels of
wavelet coefficients of differential current, certain statistical
parameters are obtained.

represents the supply from grid. The values of voltage
and frequency of source is set equal to 230V, 50 Hz
respectively

[3]. Current Transformer (CT): Many of the previous
researchers have used constant block to simulate
current transformer [5]-[8]. In this paper, Authors have
used saturable transformer of SPS to simulate the CT.
Since the voltage rating on two sides of transformer is
same, two identical CTs of rating 25VA, 10/1 A are

used to scale down the currents on two sides of
transformer so that the differential current during
normal operating condition is near to zero.
[4]. Load: The parallel RLC load block is used to
implement a linear load whose voltage and frequency
is set equal to 230 V and 50 Hz respectively. The real
and reactive power can be specified for load.
[5]. Switch S1: It is used to simulate the energization
operation of transformer at the time of switching.
[6]. Switches S2 and S3: These are used to simulate the
internal faults (inter-turn faults on winding 1 and 2) i.e.
faults inside the CT locations. The percentage of
shorted turns can be varied.
[7]. Switch S4: It is used to simulate external fault i.e. fault
outside the CT location.
In this paper, Authors have simulated different relay model
for small sized transformer but, can also be extended to
large power transformers.
2. DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM
Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is discretization of
Continuous wavelet transform along with decomposition of
signal. With discretization and decomposition operation
carried out by DWT, the coefficients of different magnitudes
are obtained at each level. The coefficients obtained from
this process are of two types,
[1]. Detail
[2]. Approximate
The levels of decomposition can be changed and can vary
among researchers. In this paper, Authors have chosen the
decomposition level maximum of 5. The advantage of
DWT is its invertibility. The invertibility operation allows
the reconstruction of decomposed signal from the
magnitudes of both detailed and approximate coefficients.
The DWT is given by,
𝜓 𝑚,𝑛 𝑡 =
1
2 𝑚 𝜓
𝑡−2 𝑚 𝑛
2 𝑚 (1)
where,
‘𝜓’ is the mother wavelet.
‘m’ is the scaling parameter.
‘n’ is the translation index at each decomposition level.
The Mallat [9] Multi Resolution Analysis (MMR Analysis)
is used for study DWT. In this analysis, the firstly signal
passed through FIR filter and decomposition signal begins.
This decomposed signal is passed through Low pass filter
and approximate coefficients will be obtained and remaining
signal passed through high pass filter and detail coefficients
will be obtained [10]. The DWT also requires the selection
of mother wavelet. The mother wavelet can be of any shape
and nature. Only requirement is it should periodic in nature.
There are so many functions of mother wavelet are available
in literature [11]. In this paper, Authors have chosen the
mother wavelet as Daubechies.
2.1 Daubechies Wavelet
The Daubechies wavelet is invented by mathematician
Daubechies and till day, it is the most popular choice of
mother wavelet in application based mathematical study.
Daubechies wavelet is represented by db followed by
numerical number ‘N’ (dbN). In dbN, ‘N’ represents the
level of decomposition and has 2 𝑁−1
possible solutions [12].
In this paper following conditions are analyzed
2.2 Discrete Wavelet Transform of Magnetizing
inrush Current
Magnetizing inrush current appears during transformer
energization due to saturation of its core. This current may
reach 8 to 10 times the full load current. The differential
relay may detect it as an fault condition but, this is a non-
fault condition. Fig. 2 shows the magnetizing inrush current
waveform for one cycle and four successive detail and
approximate coefficients of the differential current wave.

2.5 Discrete Wavelet Transform of Differential
current during Over-Fluxing Condition
A transformer operating under normal design conditions
develops a maximum flux density in the core which is
directly proportional to applied voltage and is inversely
proportional to supply frequency. If either or both of these
quantities are varied from the nominal values, transformer
core is subjected to over-fluxing condition. Fig. 5 shows the
differential current waveform (when supply voltage is
increased by 25% and frequency is reduced by 5%) for one
cycle and four successive detail and approximate
coefficients of the differential current wave.

features.

4. CONCLUSIONS
Due to mal-operations of differential protection based on
harmonic restrain feature, wavelet transform is used for
rectifying the issue. Hence, transformer transients are
analyzed using discrete wavelet transform with db6 as
mother wavelet and certain statistical features are obtained
from these decomposed wavelet coefficients. From
distributed plots, we can conclude that the obtained
statistical features from various decomposed levels using
DWT gives good information about the operating conditions
in transformer. Any single parameter is not sufficient for
identifying non-fault conditions in transformer and hence,
all the five parameters can be used as an input to the
classifier algorithm for discrimination between fault and
non-fault conditions, since the merit of any classifier
algorithm depends on input parameters which it gets for
classification.
