 Challenges &Areas of Concern
 Funding : Primacy of relief as disaster response.
 Preparedness and Mitigation very often ignored.
 Lack of integrated efforts to collect and compile data,
information and local knowledge on disaster history
and traditional response patterns.
 Need for standardised efforts in compiling and
interpreting geo-spatial data, satellite imagery and
early warning signals.
 Weak areas continue to be forecasting, modelling, risk
prediction, simulation and scenario analysis, etc.
Relief Funds In India
 Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) in
India is the fund raised to provide support for people
affected by natural and man made disasters. Natural
disasters covered under this include flood, cyclone,
earthquake etc. Man made disasters include major
accidents, acid attacks, riots etc. The fund is also
allotted to the people for treatment like cancer, kidney
transplantation, heart surgery etc. The fund was first
consolidated during the time of the first prime minister
of India Jawaharlal Nehru.
 Pm cares..

NEW Directions for Disaster Management in India
 A National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) will be administered by
NDMA. States and districts will administer mitigation funds.
 A National Disaster Response Fund(NDRF) will be administered by
NDMA through the National Executive Committee(NEC). States and
Districts will administer State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)and
Disaster Response Fund(DRF) respectively.
 10 Battalions of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are being
trained and deployed with CSSR and MFR equipments and tools in
eight strategic locations.
 A National Disaster Management Policy(NDMP) and National Disaster
Response Plan(NDRP) will also be drawn up.
