Lesson1: Monday/Tuesday
Student Learning
Objective:
Students will be able to
develop creative
writing skills by
collaborating and
interacting with other
students, to create a
Multimedia PowerPoint
presentation about a
narrative story on real
or imagined characters.
Acceptable Evidence (Assessments):
Students will be assessed on the
development of a Multimedia
PowerPoint presentation about a
narrative story. The assignment will
have 5-7 slides and will be assessed
based on their creative, clear, and
coherent writing skills. This is an
Entry-Level assessment. Doing this
presentation will tap into prior
knowledge and orient students to
the new content of the unit. I will be
walking around and observing the
students. I’d make sure that students
conversations with each other indicate
understanding of the topic.
LessonActivities: Multimedia PowerPoint Group Presentation
To start the unit, the teacher will give a lesson on creative writing and
have a class discussion about the different ways students can write
creatively. The students will be asked to form into groups of threes to
produce a 5-7 slide Multimedia PowerPoint presentation. Students
will create a PowerPoint presentation on a real or imagined experience
so they can express their prior knowledge and newly learned content
on creative thinking and writing skills. Feedback will be given, along
with a participation grade.
Lesson2: Wednesday/Thursday
3. Student Learning
Objective:
Students will be able to
produce clear and
coherent creative
writing skills by
answering questions
about creative writing
and by using the
website Writing A-Z to
create narrative journal
entry’s as their warm
up.
Acceptable Evidence:
Student will write (produce) daily
quick write/journal entries to express
their understanding of creative
writing. This is a formal assessment.
I will monitor student progress and
evaluate if students are "forming"
the concepts correctly.
LessonActivities: Journal Entries
To start the activity, students will be given instructions by the teacher
on how to write a 1-3 paragraph creative writing quick write/journal
entry on Writing A-Z. The teacher will give an example of what a
quick write/journal entry is and then have a class discussion on topic
starters for possible quick write/journal entry ideas. Students can use
those or decide to write their quick write/journal entry with a creative
topic. Students will have ten minutes to complete the quick
write/journal entry. The teacher will then allow for a few students to
share their journal entries before moving on to the next activity.
Grades will be returned efficiently and with feedback, the very next
day.
Lesson3: Friday
Student Learning
Objective:
Students will be able to
analyze and creatively
write a creative
narrative essay that
describes an
expectation of future
technology.
Acceptable Evidence:
Students will write (produce) a five
paragraph narrative essay using
Microsoft Word. This assessment will
determine and test their creative
writing skills and will assess if
students can creatively write a clear
beginning, middle, and end. The
students will be assessed on the
understanding of creative writing, the
use of first-person point of view and
creativity. The narrative should be
clear and based on an experience with
technology. This is a summative
assessment that will capture the big
ideas and serve as a final evaluation
of the unit.
LessonActivities: Creative Writing Essay
To start the activity, the teacher will give a review lesson on what
creative writing is and tap into prior knowledge of the prior lessons
completed. The teacher will discuss common mistakes and ways that
students can better their creative writing. The teacher will ask if there
are any comments or questions. After, the teacher will then begin the
activity by giving instructions through PowerPoint on how to
creatively write a personal narrative essay. The teacher will give the
students the prompt to write about. Students will then receive a
graphic organizer on how to write their five paragraph narrative.
Students can follow the outline of the graphic organizer. Students will
be incorporating the use of first-person point of view throughout the
entire narrative. Next, the teacher will advise students they have the
rest of class to complete the essay and whatever they do not finish will
be homework over the weekend. The essays will be due Monday and
returned back to students with a grade and feedback within four days.
4. Prompt:
What do you think the world of technology will look like in ten years?
Twenty? What kind of computers, phones, and other devices will we
use? Will technology improve travel? Health care? What do you
expect to see and what would you like to see? Do you think some
technology will not exist anymore?
