Building Teaching Skills Through the Interactive Web
Plan Report Template
Overall plan goal: Plan and prepare to implement a change related to
technology use in your classroom.
Rules to Follow:
1. You must use technology that is new to you—something you’ve not used before
2. You must identify ONE issue or problem that the use of technology may help solve
3. You may select no more than two technology tools to solve the one problem or issue that
you’ve identified
4. You are expected to have a fully planned and developed product ready to be used with a
class sometime in the future
Respond to each of the following areas for your plan report.
Name: Harun Md. Shahed Bin Naim Country: Bangladesh
I. Background – 5 points
This is an MA in ELT (English Language Teaching) class. All of them have at least a BA and
some have an MA in English or another subject. Most of them studied English Language and
Literature in BA. Majority of them had ‘literature’ and some had ‘language’ as major.
The MA in ELT program consists of four semesters. In the final semester students have to
write a research proposal, a report of action research and a dissertation. In final exams of
other semesters they have to answer four essay type questions. They also have to submit
many written assignments all through the program.
There are 30 students in the class. There is one computer in the class with broadband internet
connection. One laptop is available for the teachers for presentation. There is a computer lab
with around 20 computers that can be used with permission from the authority. Due to
inadequacy of computers 30 students cannot access the lab at a time. Most of the students
have smart phones, personal computers at home with internet connection. There is also free
WiFi internet in the campus that they access from their laptop or mobile phones. A teacher
can also use multimedia projector, overhead projector, cassette and CD player if required.
The goal of the course of MA in ELT is to make the students introduced with core and
current theories and practices in Applied Linguistics concentrating on teacher English as a
Second/Foreign/World language.
The students are studying English because they want to pursue a career as an ELT
practitioner. So, they need to have a good grasp of English language for their professional
life.

II. Issue or problem to be addressed that technology can help with. What’s wrong? - 5
points
From the class tests, quizzes and assignments it has been observed that students need to
improve academic writing skill. Students have failed to write coherent paragraphs and
consequently organized essays in the exams and assignments. There are various problems
found in their writing such as more than one ideas presented in a paragraph, no topic sentence
or main idea in a paragraph, incoherence, run-ons, fragmentations, grammatical problems,
punctuation etc.
III. Specific technology solution. – 10 points
As the skill to be taught is writing I considered several tools suitable for teaching writing
skills such as Blogger, Nicenet, Google Site, Wikispaces, Padlet and couple of websites
containing exercises. However, finally I have decided to use Padlet and Nicenet to address
the problem mentioned above.
As mentioned above the ultimate goal is to help students writing well structured paragraphs
because if someone understands how to write a good paragraph he will be able to write good
essays too. The goal of using the technologies (Padlet and Nicenet) is to create a shared
platform where everyone has access to view, discuss and provide feedback on each other’s
work. The technologies also help to share their reflection and to showcase portfolios of
students’ works.
With the help of the technologies students will practice writing paragraphs and its different
features such as topic or main idea, flow, signaling, cohesion, punctuation etc. There will be
different types of exercises. More specifically, Padlet will be used to showcase portfolios,
group formation for pair and group work, posting course materials and exercises, and for self
reflection. In order to support these activates, Nicenet will be used to post answers to the
questions and providing feedbacks as Nicenet has very good interactive features.
Nicenet and Padlet are new to me. I have learnt about this technology while participating in
the course Building Teaching Skills Through Interactive Web. Nicenet has been introduced at
the beginning of the course and in week 7 I have come to know about Padlet.
When the technology will be used the students will be able to determine the problems of their
own writing. By doing various types of exercise students will learn the different requirements
of a good paragraph and be able to write their own. While doing pair or group work their
critical and strategic thinking will be developed by exchanging ideas with partners. Students
will also see their own progress from the portfolio of their writing. Every student will share
self reflection with the class which will help everyone to learn better about learning.
The main difference from the past is that the technology I have chosen helps to utilize time
more efficiently and to foster pair and group work, self reflection and portfolio showcasing.
Without using technology all these might be possible to some extent however it cannot be as
efficient and effective as it is done by technology. For example, if written on notebooks or on
a piece of paper, as it was done before, it is quite inconvenient and requires a lot of time to
share someone’s writing, feedback or reflection with everyone in the class. The salient

feature of technology is the ease of access and its interactive nature that always adds
dynamism and saves a lesson or exercise from being monotonous and boring.
IV. Final Product – 10 points possible
A class named Sample Class for Plan Report has been created in Nicenet. Students will use it
for posting answers and providing feedback on others’ answer. There are links of Padlets
under respective topics.
Nicenet URL: www.nicenet.org
Class Key: S36763ZS68.
Few Padelts have been created for keeping a portfolio, sharing exercise questions, group
formation and sharing course materials, reflection and questions. The interactive PowerPoint,
lesson plan, rubric etc. will also be found in the Padlets. The links of Padlets are as follow:
http://padlet.com/harun_naim/scsqj0bn7ank
http://padlet.com/harun_naim/72y0dpkxs0dg
http://padlet.com/harun_naim/b0p6mjgiunwg
http://padlet.com/harun_naim/9r6uqzaxq4kz
Assessment of learning will be measured by the exercise throughout the course. The answer
sheets have not been given. The final assessment will be done by their own writing. A rubric
has been posted on Padlet on which their writing will be assessed. Finally, there is a portfolio
that will contain three paragraphs: one written at the very beginning of the course, another on
the same topic at the end of the course and finally the third one on a different topic. The
portfolio will be useful to assess their progress by comparing their previous writings with
current ones.
The lesson will start with a task of writing a paragraph to be posted on a Padelt named
Portfolio. This will provide the schema of the students. Then an interactive PowerPoint will
be present to explain what make a well structured paragraph. Examples will be given from
authentic materials. Nicenet will be used for posting answers to the exercises and feedbacks
from peers and the teacher. Students will access the exercises from the Padlet named
“Exercises”. For group work students will form groups and post group information on the
Padlet named “Group Formation”. At end of the course students will write another paragraph
on the topic they wrote at the beginning. They will also write the third paragraph on a
different topic. A rubric will be there in the Padlet named “Course Material”. According to
the criteria mentioned in the rubric students will peer check the paragraphs they write and
post feedback on respective Nicenet topic.
V. Expected response – 5 points possible
The response is expected to be very positive as the technology will make the lesson student
centered and it will be quite interesting for learners. Students must be very excited when they
will evaluate each other’s writing according to the rubric that is new to them. They will also
enjoy posting feedbacks on Nicenet on other’s writing. Technology serves to use time more
proficiently and to promote different activities, self reflection and portfolio showcasing.
However, there might occur a problem regarding power supply. Power supply or electricity is

one of the greatest problems in Bangladesh. Electricity might be unavailable anytime for 1-2
hours and due to no backup system for my setting it would be a problem to use internet and
computer. However, as laptops are used it can be expected to be awake for 1-2 hours when
electricity is not available.

must show the actual elements of the course and your planned technology. You should also
