- To Pimp a Butterfly has a minimalistic off-white color scheme with a picture of a dead butterfly on the CD holder, representing the "pimping" of black artists. The front cover features a group of black men around a dead politician in front of the White House, representing the album's political focus.
- G I R L features Pharrell surrounded by women in bathrobes on the front cover, representing his lavish lifestyle. The bright yellow font and colors represent the album's light pop tone.
- Channel Orange has a minimal front cover with just the title in the static of a television screen, subverting rap album conventions. References to televisions throughout represent the "channel

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Digipak analysis
1.
- To Pimp a Butterfly:
The inside cover is blank continuing with the off-white colour scheme, while
behind the CD holder is a picture of a dead butterfly with psychedelic colours,
this is a direct reference to the title, To Pimp a Butterfly which is referencing the
“pimping” of black artists in the music industry to the point where they become
bankrupt and ultimately nothing.
On the front cover of To Pimp a
butterfly a black and white photo of
a group of shirtless african
american men of all ages crowded
around a dead politician in front of
the white house is displayed. This
represents the large political focus
that is present throughout the
album. Kendrick is featured in the
photo but his star image is second
to the message of the cover as he
is further back in the crowd and
harder to spot out than what would
usually be expected of a hip hop
album cover. The black and white
and dark tones used on the cover
also sets quite a serious tone for
the album and also can be seen as
a visual metaphor for the themes of
the divide between black and white
people that is also present
throughout the album.
The CD also continues with the off-white colour
scheme giving the CD a blank minimalistic look,
this seems to be a creative choice to let the
music speak for itself, much like not having
kendrick as the main focus of the front cover.
The back cover has an off-white background and
features the track list of the album written in
kendrick’s handwriting. This gives the cover a
unique design and makes a connection to the
artist for the listener by having his handwriting on
the back cover.
2. - G I R L: The inside cover features a variation of the photo on the
cover, this time the girls featured are in more voyeuristic
poses, this is a good use of the male gaze to attract more
male consumers.
On the front cover of G I R L a mid shot of
Pharrell with three other women all
wearing bathrobes and sunglasses, this
represents the lavish lifestyle that Pharrell
has being surrounded by beautiful women.
This cover conforms to the conventions of
pop covers as Pharrell is the largest in the
frame emphasising his star image. The
cover also features the word ‘G I R L’ in a
bright yellow font, the use of the yellow
colour in the font represents the light pop
tone of the album, this is also emphasised
by the high key lighting used in the photo
along the one of the girls in the cover
wearing bright red lipstick.
The back cover features another variation of the
front cover photo this time Pharrell and the
women have their feet in a pool, this places more
emphasis on Pharrell’s lavish lifestyle. The colour
scheme of the pale pink background and the
bright yellow text representing the light pop tone
of the album is used again.
The CD continues with the bright yellow colour scheme
and features the track list bellow, this also carries on the
minimalistic theme seen through all the art of the digipak.
3.
Frank Ocean - :
The inside of the digipak features a shot of four televisions stacked
on top of each other in low key lighting, the televisions are
displaying static with is a reference to the static in the title on the
front cover. On the other side of the inner digipak a collage of
television screens with different colours on them come together to
create a giant picture of the SMPTE colour bars. These themes of
idle televisions refer to the ‘channel’ of the title.
The back cover also sticks with the
minimalistic theme of the front cover as it
just features an orange background and
the track list on top of a purple/blue strip of
colour.
On the front cover for Channel
Orange the cover is kept very
minimalistic with an orange
background and text saying
‘channel orange’. The orange
background represents the
Orange of the title and inside the
‘channel’ of the title the word is
filled in with the static from a
television screen, this is referring
to the channels of a television.
This cover really subverts from
the conventions of urban
contemporary albums as the
cover doesn't feature the artist in
anyway.
Inside the sleeve features a message from Frank in the same dark colour
scheme of the inside of the digipak, this creates a connection to the artist
for the consumer. The CD features the track list and an upside down eject
button, this is used to imply that Frank wants the audience insert the CD
and not eject it.
4. - The Heist:
On the front cover of The Heist the
cover is minimalistic with a textured
black alligator skin background and the
artists and title in gold font. Using the
alligator skin pattern paired with the
gold lettering to give a luxurious feel to
the album as alligator skin and gold
are things people generally associate
with luxury. The back cover also
features the same background and
lettering, continuing with the luxurious
theme. This cover subverts from the
common conventions of a Hip Hop/
Rap album as the artists aren't
featured anywhere on the covers of the
digipak.
The CD features the album title in black font with a background of
crumpled gold lightweight offset paper, which is a reference to the
same sheet of paper found on top of the CD. This represents how the
consumer needs to crumple the paper to get to the CD.
Inside the front cover is a welcome card from
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, followed by a sheet
of gold lightweight offset paper, this stays with the
luxurious theme of the digipak. Underneath the
paper is a tack of photos and art corresponding
to each song on the album, some of the
photographs are of Macklemore & Ryan lewis,
the images and art set the theme for the album
and the use of the artists star image in some of
the photos authenticates the product for the
consumer.
