DICHOPTIC STIMULATION
MADE BY : SWATI PANARA
FROM : BHARTIMAIYA COLLEGE OF
OPTOMETRY
3rd YEAR 5th SEMESTER
• DICHA : TWO
• OPTIC : RELATED TO SIGHT
• STIMULUS : SOME THING THAT STIMULATES
DICHOPTIC STIMULATION
• It is simply refers to a different stimulation in
two eyes which occurs when binocular stimuli
fall on non corresponding point on two retina.
• Presenting different stimulus to each eye at
the same time…..
TYPES
DEPTH WITH FUSION
DEPTH WITH DIPLOPIA
DEPTH WITHOUT DIPLOPIA
RETINAL RIVARLY AND
SUPPRESSION
BINOCULAR LUSTER
DEPTH WITH FUSION & DIPLOPIA
• These are not generally referred to as
dichoptic stimuli since two retinal patterns are
sufficiently similar to be combined to a unified
impression.
DEPTH WITH DIPLOPIA
DEPTH WITH FUSION
DEPTH WITHOUT DIPLOPIA
• When the degree of non correspondence is
such that no fusion occur & diplopia result
without depth perception.
• Diplopia may be homonymous &
heteronymous.
DEPTH WITH OUT DIPLOPIA
• Sensory adaptation which may occur to
compensate for annoying diplopia include :
suppression , amblyopia & abnormal retinal
correspondence.
DEPTH WITH OUT DIPLOPIA
RETINAL RIVLARY & SUPPRESSION
• The visual system responds to retinal rivlary
by re secting the signal transmitted from a
given area of one retina in favour of those
coming from corresponding parts of other
retina.
• Thus only information from one retina
become a visual perception while the
information simultaneously transmitted from
corresponding parts of other retina is not used
so that involved area may be considered
temporarily blind. this reaction to influy of
conflicting information is called suppression.
BINOCULAR LUSTRE
• The lustrous appearance of surfaces like a
waxes on table top or a car body is essentially
due to binocular lustre.
• It results from different position of partially
reflected objects in surface by virtue of
different position of two eyes.
• Dichoptic Stimulation Improves Detection of
Glaucoma with Multifocal Visual Evoked
Potentials
