Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
One thing that I liked about my image was that there are a lot of important
features which you can easily add which means the animal is easily
identifiable as a elephant which helps young children understand. For
example , tusks and big ears help children understand that the animal is an
elephant because of its recognizable features. Another thing I like about this
image is that it is very simple and has simple features but still still looks good
and will work well within a similar style.
What would you improve if you did it again?
One thing I would improve if I did it again would be to focus on certain parts
of the animal such as the legs and so the legs look more correct and not
distort or oddly shaped. Legs are an important part of an animal and making
them look right improves the overall look of the animal.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about my image was that there are a lot of
important features which you can easily add which means the animal
is easily identifiable as a Gazelle which helps young children
understand. Another thing I like about this image is that it is very
simple and has simple features but still still looks good and is still
recognizable as a Gazelle.
One thing I would improve if I did it again would be to focus on certain
details around the face areas so that it is easy to recognise the animal
and its features such as eyes , nose etc.. Adding these details improve
the look of the rotoscope but adding to much detail will remove its
comical effect and it will be start to be less of a rotoscope and more of
a highly detailed picture.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about my image was that it was it was simple but gave off a good
effect and represented what I was trying to produce very well. Panda’s have lots of
simple shapes and by creating a small number of shapes , you can get the outline of
the head and body. Another thing that I liked about my images was that I used the
colour range tool so that I could add texture to the image. Adding texture allowed me
to improve the look of the whole image and gave it more detail.
One thing that I would try to improve if I did it again would be to spend more time on
making the panda blend in and suit the background more so that everything looked a
lot more natural and it was more detailed. For example the grass under the Panda
needs to be darker because of the shadow which the panda’s body will cast over it.
Another thing that I would improve if I did it again would be to add more detail and
textures so there is more perspective on the panda and it makes it look a lot more 3D.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about this image was the simple features that the face has and how
the simplicity portrays the full facial features. For creating these simple features , I only
took parts of the main features to give the impression that it was there and I didn’t have to
draw the full thing on the Rotoscope. An example of this is the nose where I only drew the
outlines to give the impression of it and not the full thing. This style of not drawing the full
thing is very comical and makes more detailed things , more comical and simpler.
One thing that I would improve if I did it again would be the skin. The skin colour that I
choose was maybe abit pale for the person who I was Rotoscoping and it therefore may not
have looked correct. Another thing that I would improve if I did it again is to focus on the
Jersey. I would focus on this because there were a lot of creases and shadows in the jersey
and I tried to replicate some but not all which made the jersey look abit odd. These some
bits of extra detail help make the the rotoscope look better and improve its overall look.

Evaluation
I like Rotoscoping because it allows me to make a photo of someone look very
cartoony and unreal. For Rotoscoping , you just put the main facial features and assets
which means the person or item you are Rotoscoping is easily identifiable as them. An
example of this is the moustache which Ron burgundy has which allows him to be very
recognizable. I made these features by cutting out the a outline of the real moustache
and placing onto a cartoon face and then I overlaid it with a brown colour.
Rotoscoping just involves putting simple features on and not putting any mass range
of detail in the picture.
One thing that I would improve if I did it again is to focus on the details
around the eyes and in some other areas. Although these small details aren't
necessary to the whole image , they can help a lot to improve the look of
images in areas.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about the rotoscope that I did was that I could use different tools
on Photoshop to give a really good effect and how the car properly looks. One thing
that helped me make the car look properly was using the gradient overlay tool to get
different lighting effects which means the car look better and would look in place
more with sun and shadows on different parts of the car. Another thing that I liked
about my image was that in rotoscoping , you only get the basic shapes and outlines
and from the rotoscope I did , I feel like that I have only done the important outlines
which makes the car recognizable.
One thing that I would improve if I did it again is to improve the wheels on the car. The
car’s wheels had lots of spokes and quite complicated and the original image was dark
and wasn’t a very high quality which means I did not have lots of options on how to do
the wheels. I think if I did it again , I would spend a lot more time on the project and
spend time thinking about every single way of doing something.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about Text based is the amount of range and styles you can get
by using different tools and features. For example , spacing text apart , making it closer
together etc.. One technique which I particularly liked was picture clipping. This
involved taking a picture and putting it into the text. This technique can drastically
improve the look of the text and anything around it. Due to the diversity of this
technique , it can be used in or on almost anything and is very simple to do.
One that I would improve if I did it again would be to explore the colour gradients
more. This feature I used but not to its full extent and I think I could of got a lot more
out of this feature. Another thing I would do if I did it again would be for the picture
clipping is to choose a more suitable image. I would do this because due to the nature
of the technique , you have to stretch some images and then they look distort and
wrong.

Evaluation
I used the cut-out filter from the filter gallery in Photoshop which allowed me to make my
images look very cartoony. I also liked that I could change and vary my images so that I
could distinguish my images apart by changing the settings. To distinguish my images apart I
used the threshold tool and blending options to make the image look different and to
change them about. I used the blending options to lighten or darken the image which
creates shadows in places which gives a good effect. The threshold tool also means that I
am able to create shadows in areas of the image. For the three images that I did , I changed
my effects for each one so that the image would look different.
One thing that I would improve if I did it again would be to utilise the blending options
more so I could give my images a more distinct look. Another thing that I would do if I
did it again would also be also to maybe use a high threshold. This , depending on the
image could have created a very good effect which I might have missed. Something
else that I would improve if I did it again is image choice. I could of chosen

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about my images was they all displayed very child like
things/emotions. For example , a bike , happy emotions and a goal post. I chose
these things because football and biking are very big for children and they put
happy emotions onto children so I think these pictures I took can display
children’s emotions and feelings. One of photo I took was of a person smiling and I
think it is very child-like when there is a big grin on a face of someone. This is a
photo which displayed happy emotions similar to that of a child. I have tried in all
of my photos to get a secret meaning to the photo so they worked effectively to
display children’s emotions.
One thing that I would improve if I did it again would be to plan on where to take
the photos more. I think this because I spent about 10 mins looking and thinking
of places to take photos which wasted time and I think I could have had a little
time to think more which means I spent less time outside taking and searching for
photos.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about my image was that I could easily add and take away parts
and detail from my image which allowed me to adapt my image into anyway I wanted
it to. Another thing that I liked about my image is that it allowed me to draw a range
of things which broadens its use quite significant because almost anyone could use
this style.
One thing I would do if I did it again is to focus on some aspects of the detail more.
Having lots of detail in a illustration improves the overall look of it. Another thing that I
could of done to improve it is to add colour. Colours can improve the look of the image
but in certain cases they can also make the illustration look wrong. I chose not to put
colour on for this reason.

Evaluation
One thing that I liked about my image was that it was simple and didn’t have masses
of detail. Although lots of detail is good and makes the overall image look better ,
more simple illustrations can in some in situations have a lot better effect and suit
different styles a lot more. Another thing that I liked about my image was that there
wasn’t any proper restrictions in terms of file size etc so I could add whatever and as
much detail as I needed.
One thing that I would improve if I did it again is to spend a lot more time on certain
areas of the project so that the overall image would look better. One area which I
think I could of spent more time on is the body and wheel arches. With more time , I
could of improved the look of the overall illustration and made it look better. Another
thing that I could of done to improve the illustration if I did it again would be to add
shading in areas so you could see where the light is and where the shadows and
darker patches will be.

Characters-Little red riding hood
There are many different
styles and formats in
which you can draw the
illustrations , from the
very detailed to the very
cartoon like effect. For
my children’s book , I
have decided to go for
very cartoony
illustrations as I think it
would be better suited to
a children’s book.
For my story , I have
based it off Little red
riding hood but I have
changed it slightly so that
it is not a direct copy. I
plan to include a
different version of Little
red riding hood into my
story.

Character-Grandmother
For my story , I also
plan to still include
the grandmother from
the original. I think
this is good because it
makes sure my story
doesn’t go to far from
the original but still
has its differences.
There are many art
types and styles that I
could illustrate the
grandmother in but I
have gone for a
cartoon-like effect
which I think will be
more suitable for kids.

Character-other
For my version of
little red riding hood ,
I plan to add a few
more characters so
that my story is not
the same as the
original. One extra
character I add is a
fox which will replace
the position of the
wolf which eats the
and then dresses like
the grandmother.
Another example of a
extra character I have
added is a cow which
helps little red riding
hood along the way
when she gets lost.

Setting/scene
For my story , I plan to set it
in the countryside and in
deep forests and a farm
where the grandmother lives.
This setting is very similar to
the original which I have tried
to do but I have added a twist
on it because it is the modern
day and the grandmother
lives on a farm.
I will also draw the
setting in a cartoon-like
effect because it will
work well with the
characters and I think
it is more suitable for a
children's book.

Text types fonts
Little Red riding hood
For my children’s story , I plan to use a sans-
serif font because in my opinion , children will
find a sans-serif font easier to read and
understand and in a children’s book where a
large majority of the readers haven't been
properly reading for that long , making sure
every word is clear is very important. For the
examples of text on the left , I have included
both serif fonts and sans-serif font for idea
generation and ideas.

Proposal
Dimensions
For my story I plan to do around 10-12 pages because then the story isn't too long and there is enough pages to tell a good story.
Having a too long book may mean that the children reading it may get bored. The panned dimensions of my book are 25.1 x 0.1.5
x 18cm. I think these dimensions are big enough so that the child can easily read the book.
Story Overview
My story is a modern day version of Little red riding hood. The story is that Little Red
riding hood leaves her parents house to go to her grandmothers in the country to drop
off some food. Little red riding hood leaves her parents house in her land rover and
drives through a deep forest to get to her grandmothers house. Along the way there is
a road junction and she doesn’t know the way to go. A friendly cow speaks to her and
tells her the way to go. As she carries on down the road a Fox jumps out in front of the
vehicle and challenges saying why is she coming down the fox’s stretch of land. After
an argument , the fox reluctantly leaves and then little red riding hood carries on. The
Export Format
I plan to export my story in the PDF file type. PDF stands for ‘’Portable document file”.
Advantages: Almost anyone can open that file type which means more people will be able to view and read the
story. Another advantage of PDF files is that they can contain and compress larger files so they take up less
space.
Disadvantages: One disadvantage of PDF files is that they have limited support on Linux and UNIX operating
system which means people using that operating system cannot open the story. Another disadvantage of PDF
files is that sometimes they are not built in with web pages and requires the user to download extra
applications which may be hard if there is no internet for example.

Audience
The target audience of my book will be about 5-7 years because there is a small
amount of writing but not enough for a chapter book which is designed for older
people. There is no specific gender which I try to aim my story at because I think it
is very unisex. I will try and aim my story at as many people as possible so there is
not a social class which is specific to my book. This makes the book appeal to a
wider audience. Due to the origins of my story and it’s base , the majority of people
interested in my book will be in the UK but there may be others in other English
speaking countries such as the USA and Canada.
Production Methods
For producing the pages and content for my story , I will use Adobe Photoshop and
other adobe products. In Photoshop , I will be rotoscoping objects , putting cartoon
effects on different things , and making backgrounds etc.. I may draw out the
content before trying to replicate it on Photoshop because that way I can get a
better way of looking (Explain the methods you are going to use to produce your
pages. Show us the thinking behind your decisions for a more detail response)

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
I like that you went into a lot of depth with what your
story will be about it give you a clear understanding
of the twist you are going to put on your story. For
most of your proposal you have gone into a lot of
depth which will help you when it comes to you
creating the children's book.
Overall the proposal is very good but I think that it
could be beneficial to add some more detail in why
you are going to use certain methods because this
could be useful when you start designing your book
and can look at what you want to use the methods
for and why.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The mind map you created is really well done
because you went into depth for each section and
this can be helpful later on in this project and its
good you had a good explanations on your mood
boards that you created because it really shows
why you picked them images.
A good way to develop the mood boards could be
to add a few more images which could give you
some more inspiration for the design and
illustrations for your children's book.

There is a lot of description and information
regarding the clear storyline of the book, and why
the particular file types strengths and weaknesses.
There is also in depth explanation of how you will
proceed to create the book and illustrations using
Photoshop.
Maybe mention the class of the people that will be
purchasing the book that you are making and why
this is the chosen group. Maybe explain the knock
on effect of a bigger book, such as larger text that’s
easier to read, or larger more detailed illustrations.

To sum up my feedback I would say I need to add more detail and images to parts of my
proposal and idea. One example where I need to add more detail is when mentioning
who my target audience is and which people im aiming my book at , I need to add what
social class my book is being aimed at and why. Another place where I can add detail is
on my ideas generation , I need to add more images which help illustrate the characters
im going to make.

One piece of feedback which I agree with is to spilt the large chunks of description up so
that the text is more identifiable. Another piece of feedback which I would agree with is
that I have not correctly explained what text font and style I will be using and why. I
agree with this because the text is an important part of the story.

One part of feedback which I disagree with is on the explanation of the larger effect of
the book , I feel like this is not a overly important part of the book.

Once upon a time there was a dear little girl who was loved by everyone who looked at her, but most of all by her grandmother, and
there was nothing that she would not have given to the child. Once she gave her a little riding hood of red velvet, which suited her
so well that she would never wear anything else; so she was always called 'Little Red Riding Hood.'
One day her mother said to her: 'Come, Little Red Riding Hood, here is a piece of cake and a bottle of wine; take them to your
grandmother, she is ill and weak, and they will do her good. Set out before it gets hot, and when you are going, walk nicely and
quietly and do not run off the path, or you may fall and break the bottle, and then your grandmother will get nothing; and when you
go into her room, don't forget to say, "Good morning", and don't peep into every corner before you do it.'
'I will take great care,' said Little Red Riding Hood to her mother, and gave her hand on it.
The grandmother lived out in the wood, half a league from the village, and just as Little Red Riding Hood entered the wood, a
wolf met her. Red Riding Hood did not know what a wicked creature he was, and was not at all afraid of him.

When he had made two snips, he saw the little red riding hood shining, and then he made two snips more, and the little girl
sprang out, crying: 'Ah, how frightened I have been! How dark it was inside the wolf.'
After that the aged grandmother came out alive also, but scarcely able to breathe. Red Riding Hood, however, quickly fetched
great stones with which they filled the wolf's belly, and when he awoke, he wanted to run away, but the stones were so heavy that
he collapsed at once, and fell dead.
Then all three were delighted. The huntsman drew off the wolf's skin and went home with it; the grandmother ate the cake and
drank the wine which Red Riding Hood had brought, and revived. But Red Riding Hood thought to herself: 'As long as I live, I will
never leave the path by myself to run into the wood, when my mother has forbidden me to do so.'
It is also related that once, when Red Riding Hood was again taking cakes to the old grandmother, another wolf spoke to her, and
tried to entice her from the path. Red Riding Hood, however, was on her guard, and went straight forward on her way, and told her
grandmother that she had met the wolf, and that he had said 'good morning' to her, but with such a wicked look in his eyes, that if
they had not been on the public road she was certain he would have eaten her up.
'Well,' said the grandmother, 'we will shut the door, so that he can not come in.'
Soon afterwards the wolf knocked, and cried: 'Open the door, grandmother, I am Little Red Riding Hood, and am bringing you
some cakes.'
But they did not speak, or open the door, so the grey-beard stole twice or thrice round the house, and at last jumped on the roof,
intending to wait until Red Riding Hood went home in the evening, and then to steal after her and devour her in the darkness. But
the grandmother saw what was in his thoughts.

In front of the house was a great stone trough, so she said to the child: 'Take the pail, Red Riding Hood; I made some sausages
yesterday, so carry the water in which I boiled them to the trough.'
Red Riding Hood carried until the great trough was quite full. Then the smell of the sausages reached the wolf, and he sniffed and
peeped down, and at last stretched out his neck so far that he could no longer keep his footing and began to slip, and slipped down
from the roof straight into the great trough, and was drowned. But Red Riding Hood went joyously home, and no one ever did
anything to harm her again.

Page 1 In a peaceful village next to a wood, there lived a mother and daughter.
Page 2 One day the mother told her daughter that her grandmother was ill and that she needed food and water taken to her house
in the forest.
Page 3 The daughter had never been into the forest and had heard bad stories about it. She set off because she knew that her
grandmother needed her help. She got into her truck and set off into the forest.
Page 4 As she drove down a small narrow path, a large fox ran out in front of the car and blocks her path. The fox looks into the eyes
of the daughter and asks “Going somewhere?’…
Page 5 The daughter turns white with fear and tells the fox “I’m going to see my sick grandmother”. The fox smirks and slowly walks
off into the trees. She carries on driving through the wood…
Page 6 She arrives at the clearing where her grandmother’s house is. The daughter gets out the car, grabs the food and slowly walks
over to the door.
While walking over to the door, she hears loud knocking coming from the house…
Page 7 She walks up to the door and knocks on it. “Come in” says a crooked, creaky voice. She thought to herself, “That’s doesn’t
sound like grandmother”. She replies “Grandmother, is that you?” as she opens the door to find a pitch black room…
Page 8 She quickly turns on the light to see a fox staring straight at her. “Evening” the fox, says. “Where’s grandmother?” she says
worryingly. “Locked in the cupboard” the fox says, while laughing to himself…
Page 9 The fox started to approach the daughter.” I’m going to eat you up!” he said. She dropped the food and started screaming
loudly while moving back towards the door…
Page 10 A nearby farmer heard the screams and starts running over towards the house. The farmer pointed his pitchfork at the fox
and shouted loudly; the fox quickly gets scared and runs away for it never to be seen again. The daughter released her grandmother
from the cupboard and everyone lived happily ever after…
