Evaluation (The House)
What did you like about your image?
For this I liked the way that I had arranged the layers on the house so that it
looked like it was eating the man and that the face looked like it was inside of
the car. I also liked the way that The image came together as a whole, due to
being very new to making things on Photoshop.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to re-do this again, what I would do would be to add some different
shapes onto the image to make it more rounded and look more like a house,
rather than shapes being layered on top of each other. I would also angle
things differently so it looked like the car was driving on the path, and I would
also add in some shading to the picture rather than just having it as block
colours.

Evaluation (The snail)
What I liked about my image was the way that I made the shell out of different
coloured layers to make it look like the shell of a snail. I also liked the way that I made
the body look like how it did, by warping the main body to give it the rounded way
that snails looked, which I felt looked very close to an actual snail. I also liked the way
that I made the rainbow out of warped shapes as I was able to get the curve that I
want, as well as the colours that I wanted to use.
If I were to do this one again what I would do to improve it would be to of curved the
trail of the snail more, or to of made it more patchy as well as transparent to make it
to appear more like snail slime actually does. Again I would also add shading onto the
image to maybe make some of the body a bit more clearly, and maybe even add
textures to improve the way that the body of the snail looked. I would also improve
the rainbow due to the way it is warped it isn’t smooth curves all the way around and
has dents inside of it which clearly shows it has been warped. So It would make it
smoother and add more colours to it as well to make it appear more attractive.

Evaluation (the whales)
What I liked about the image was how that I clearly got the correct shape for the
animal that I wanted to make. Which shows I clearly copied the right shape, I also
think that that the way that it came out as an overall shape looks good as it is clear
what it is meant to be. As well I like the effects that I was able to put onto the different
whales on the picture, as well as being able to have a couple of whales rather than just
having one on the page.
If I were to do this again, I would put an outline around the border of all of the whale
to clearly make out its different parts, I would also do some different things with the
other whales such as moving them differently, or adding different effects or textures,
as well as shading the whales to give it more of a visual assets. Rather than all of them
being block colours, maybe even change one whale to two different colours and give a
variety of effects on the whales.

Evaluation
What I liked about my image was the way that I had shaped the face and the hair,
using the tool that we had to use. I was able to make the image rather rounded and
clear as to who it is meant to be. I also liked the way that I used the textures onto the
scarf and coat to make the clothing seem to be more detailed but it also kept a
cartoony style at the same time. I also like the background as It clearly makes the
character in this image stand out.
If I were to do this again I would change the way that I had shaded the image to make
it seem more defined and realistic, as well I would change the shape and tone of the
nose to make it seem more well shaped and realistic. I would also try to make the skin
tones much up more so they are more close together in the colour scale and so that it
gives an even more cartoony feeling to my image. I would also attempt to add more
detail onto the background of the main image. I would also attempt to make the ears
stand out more with detail and try to add more definition onto his cheekbones to
show the structure clearly.

Evaluation
What I liked the most about my image was the way that I did the hair on the character.
Due to the way her hair really was I thought that putting on a gradient of different
colours would give it a nice effect, to make it look like her own hair. I also liked the way
that I did the eyes as I think that the way that I didn’t made them seem a bit more
realistic and not perfectly flat. I’m always very happy with the way that I was able to go
around the face and body and get a matching shape instead of one that is completely
different to there own.
If I was to do this image again to improve it what I would do to this image would to
firstly add in the more detailed parts of her clothing as well as adding in the clear
wrinkles in the coat that she is wearing, I would also add in more shading onto the
image. This is so I could give it a more realistic effect /feeling to the image , I would
also add in a background to the image instead of leaving it as plain white.

Evaluation
For the first image I liked the way that I had overall put the text together and the effects I used on it.
For the second image I like the way that I had put together the sky and the placing of the text. I also like my
use of adding colour to the word sky, and making the word scream bold. Which I felt made them both stand
out on the background they were on. I liked the placing of the text too, I thought it was effective as to where
it was placed, as the text was on the floor, but what was taking place was on the top. Which draws attention
to the top of the page seeing what was going on. I also liked the contrast from the blue and green as it
makes the blue stand out even more, which catches your own eye.
I think if I were to improve the text I would change the style of it or the colour and spacing depending on
what context the text is being used in.
If I were to do the other image again to being with I would change the colour of the black text to a different
colour, or to a lighter shade of black. This is because the text doesn’t stand out and seems to blend into the
background due to grass being dark green and the text being black. I would also change the font of the word
screaming to make it stand out even more, and to show symbolism of the screaming showing terror or
something to be afraid of.

Evaluation
What I liked about my image is the way that the image looks as an
overall, I just used a filter for this image and nothing else. I like how the
filter got the detail in the clothing pattern and in the eyes showing
where the light had hit them.
If I were to do this again to improve it I would maybe add in some colour
to this image and maybe add in something with the threshold being
used and also add in layer effects to help improve the image.

Evaluation
What I like about this image is the face and how the effects that I used
captured the detail, including the light and shadow on the image. I also
like how behind the head there appeared the area that looks like giant
pixels. I like this as it draws attention to his face as you see it when
looking at what is behind him.
To improve this if I were to do it again I would maybe do something
different with the filters and change it so It comes out similar but has a
different effect to it over all. I would also maybe make the whole
background lighter rather than the one area just being blue.

Evaluation
What I liked about this image was the way that the
guys face stood out in the dark background with his
face being only a few shades lighter. I also liked the
way that the filter and Threshold combined kept all
the detail in the image.
If I were to improve this image what I would do to it
would be to add in some colour rather than leaving
the image black and grey to make it standout.

Evaluation
What I like about this image is the way that the gate is shaped and the style it is done
in. I think it gives it a nice look, as well as it blending into the background nicely as they
both look like similar styles so they both fit well with each other and neither look out
of place. I also like the path and the way that I have angled it as it looks like you are
about to walk down it. It looks like a perspective view with the path so it also has an
ending. I’m very happy with how I angled it so it doesn't just look like a rectangle had
just been placed onto the floor.
If I were to do this again to improve it I would change the path instead
of it having a gradient I would add in shading to show where the light
and dark patches were. I would add in either a sun, moon or some
clouds to perhaps determine what time It is in this background. I would
also add in things such as leafs on the floor to show more detail in my
image.

Evaluation
What I like about my image is how I was able to keep constancy with the appearance
of my character and its background throughout the entire of the comic. I also like the
way that even though I was Rotorscoping the image I like how I was able to keep the
same pose and perspective as in my photos. As well I extremely like how the galaxy
background was fitting in with the comic and how easily I was able to adjust it to make
it fit. I like the way how I was also able to get all of the poses from the photos into this
form for that my comic followed the exact photos that I had taken.
If I were to improve this again what I would do to it would to firstly add in things such
as shading to make things stand out more, and I would add more things into the
background of the hallway and near the door to make things a bit more interesting.
Even though I liked the galaxy background I would maybe get rid of it and try to draw
my own or add some effects to it so it wouldn’t be as obvious it was just photo
shopped in. At the end in the final panel I would maybe add some things onto the
table such as a teapot or chess board to show that something had been going on
before they were walked in on.

Evaluation
What I like most about my image is the path and the way that it is angled with the girl
standing on it as the path isn’t flat and it looks as if you are looking directly in front of
you. I also like the way that I had drawn on her cape and the way that I made it stand
out even more by going around it in a red fine liner pen. I thought that this gave a very
nice effect which makes it stand out. I also like the way that the girl is drawn as the
body looks in proportion and not out of place.
To begin with I would improve the way that I had drawn the background and change
things such as the trees, berry bush and flower patch. I would re angle them to make
them fit the perspective of the path better. I would also change the way that I coloured
in everything and try to make it so the strokes don’t seem as obvious as they do in this
version so I would be a lot neater with it. I would also change the text and go for
neater handwriting that is more spread out at the end rather than being close
together. I would centre it in the middle of the path instead of to the side of it.
Another thing I would do would be to translate it onto Photoshop with a graphics
tablet to change the image and to be able to do the changes that I wanted but it would
be a different approach on how I changed/improved the image.

Sword In the Stone
• Brief Plot summary: Young Arthur needs to bring his brother his own
sword but he gets lost and stumbles upon the sword in the stone and
pulls it out and takes it to his brother Merlin sees this when it
happens. When he takes his sword to his brother everyone makes
him put it back in and everyone else tries to pull it out but to no avail.
Arthur then goes and pulls it out proclaiming him as the true king of
England.
• Characters : Arthur, King, Knights, Arthurs brother, Merlin.
• Scenery: Field, Churchyard, Near the anvil, inside a tent
• Pros: Could be easy to create, not as well known so I can be free with
how I create it, could be easy to create the scenes:
• Cons: Could be difficult to create a large crowd, could also be difficult
to tell in a limited amount of pages.

The boy who cried wolf
• Brief plot: There was once a young shepherd upon a hill observing his
village sheep. For his own entertainment he cried “wolf, wolf, the wolf is
attacking the sheep” each time the villagers came to help but soon
stopped as they noticed it was a lie. One day a real wolf came and he cried
for help. Nobody came to help, later they went out and found him crying
in a field.
• Characters: Boy, Wolf, Sheep, Villagers
• Scenery: Fields, forest edge, village.
• Pros: Well known story, easily able to add detail, wouldn't’t be too difficult
to create in Photoshop. Can be told in a limited amount of pages.
Wouldn't’t be too difficult to create backgrounds.
• Cons: People already have expectations for the story, could be difficult to
create the wolf.

Princess & the pea.
• Brief plot: A prince is looking for a real princess to marry. With very little luck.
He returns home to his parents' castle.
• One stormy night, there is a knock on the door. The king himself answers, and finds
a bedraggled girl seeking shelter. She claims to be a princess...a real one.
• The queen is skeptical, but she has a test. She puts a pea beneath an incredible
amount of bedding. A real princess would feel the pea.
• The girl not only spends a fitful night, she is rendered black and blue by the
offending pea. Knowing now she is a real princess the prince marries her.
• Characters: King, Prince, Princess, Queen, Maid.
• Scenery: Bedroom, Outside, Church/castle (wedding) Inside the main hall.
• Pros: Well known story, would be easily recognized by anyone picking it up
• Cons: It could be difficult to create so many matrasses depending on what
production methods that I choose to use.

Chosen story.
• The story that I have chosen to creative as my children's
book is “The boy who cried wolf”.
• The reason that I have chosen to do this as my book is
because it is a commonly know story throughout children's
books. So I am firstly working with a commonly known story,
however due to there being different versions of this story I
will be able to have my own take on it. This will be allowing
me to use my own style as well as perhaps adding a twist
into the story. As well due to where the story takes place I
will be able to add in plenty of detail into the background of
the fields to make it more busy and vibrant rather than just
a bland background.

Wolf & sheep
Here I’ve looked at real wolf and sheep as well as cartoon
versions to get an idea of what they look like and to get an
idea of the different styles people dram the animals in. There
are obvious common traits with both of them in the cartoon
style. The wolfs teeth and the sheep's fur for example.

Backgrounds
Here I was looking at different
backgrounds for fields and villages as
this is where my story is going to take
place.

Characters
Here I looked at style and what I may end up
drawing my villagers and main character to look
like.

Colour pallets
Here I looked at different colour palettes for
things such as forest, fields, animals and humans.
All of which will be involved In my story so I will
be able to incorporate these colours into the
story.

Proposal: Dimensions
The number of pages for the book will be around 8 pages long for the story and the
size will be 19 cm height and 25.4 cm for width.
Export Format
The export format that I am planning on using to Export my storybook as will be in a
JPEG file format.
Advantages: They are a small file format which means that I will able to do large
amounts of work without taking up a lot of space. As well this means that the images
will be able to be easily transferred and downloaded if they need to be sent to edited
or evaluated. As well if the book would be published online the file format is the
standard format for photographs/images on the internet which means that they would
load quickly as well as being supported without them having to be converted into a
different file format.
Disadvantages: Using this file type will make the images slightly drop down in quality
when it is exported. However this may not be very noticeable unless it is on an online
version where the distortion of the image quality may be more noticeable. Unless it is
on paper the drop down of the image quality will not be as oblivious. As well if this
book perhaps wanted to be printed wide scale this could cause an issue because of the
quality of the images.

Story Overview
There was once a young shepherd upon a hill observing his village sheep. For his
own entertainment he cried “wolf, wolf, the wolf is attacking the sheep” each
time the villagers came to help but soon stopped as they noticed it was a lie. One
day a real wolf came and he cried for help. Nobody came to help, later they went
out and found him crying in a field. Or in another version to not find him there
but only a scrap of his clothing on the floor.

Production Methods:
For this book the methods that I am going to use will be, Shape warping,
rotoscoping and filters . The reason that I have chose to use these to create my
storybook is that when I want to create characters such as animals or humans. I will
be able to use shape tools and warp the shapes to create a similar type of body for
what I want. As well this also allows me to freely create characters while making
sure that they maintain a cartoony style to my characters. The reason that I have
also chosen rotoscoping as one of my production methods for creating this is
because if I want to make a certain position with one of my characters; it may be
easier to create it using rotoscoping rather than using the shape tools. As well with
using this I will be able to add in things such as fine detail, by using it to create
things such as flowers or blades of grass without having to constantly be warping
shapes. The reason that I have also chosen to use filters in my work as well is
because If I decide that I want to have a certain area as a background or image
(which will all be my own) of something such as they sky or a field. I will be able to
use filters to make it have a cartoony look to it while it also adds in some shading
and detail to it. Meaning that I wouldn't’t have to go over the whole sky to create
an individual background. As well it would be an easier way to capture a
background without having to go over it and creating loads of layers.

Audience
To being with the targeted group for my book will be boys between the ages of 6-10 as well they should
belong to the working class and up. The reason that I have chose to have this age range and gender as my
target group is because I believe that this story will mostly appeal to males. This is due to the fact that the
book will contain a wolf and that most of the characters in this book will also be male so boys prefer this if
they found out that a large amount of characters are male within the book. As well the reason that I have
chosen this age range to target is because this is the type of age where they need this type of message to be
delivered to them in another way just than being told by their own parents not to lie. As well I have chosen
this age range because this is around the age of the boy in the book so people in this age range may also be
able to relate to them in this story. As well because of the age of the children that I have targeted they will
be more easily able to understand the ending of the book and what had happened and why. As well the
main location that I am aiming my target audience in main places such as the countryside, or in small
villages. The reason that I have chosen this area as my main place for my target audience to live is due to the
nature of the story and the set location of it. It is also a good message for people who live in that sort of area
not to lie about things such as this happening; and they know the possible results of it if they choose to lie.
How I am mainly going to reach my intended audience is by using a darker colour pallet for my book, using
mostly earthy colours and not bright colours that boys may view as being “Too girly” for their own liking
within the book. As well I am going to make my characters very boy-ish within the book, with the main
character and other villagers looking very boy like and manly. With things such sort hair, scruffy appearance
e.c.t to make it seem more interesting to the boys and to also make the characters stand out. I am also
planning on making the wolf slightly creepy to catch the attention of the boys as this is the type of things
that they would be interested in seeing within books.

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Detail lost within the mind maps is gained on the
proposal.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
Showing examples of different fonts being used in
different scenarios (such as for when the boy cries
“WOLF WOLF!” and “HELP!”) will enhance the
effect of the text, aid a parent or carer that may be
reading the book aloud, and also give it a comic
book vibe.
The variety of images and art styles on the mood
boards will be very helpful with creating the best
overall art style for the book, and may also provide
useful source material when it comes to image
manipulation.
Further discussion of the design process within the
mind maps may have been helpful for further along
within the project, as less reliance would be placed
on the material within the mood boards and
different things may have been gained from better
mind maps.

Overall I had very positive feedback with my proposal, from what I have gathered I have
a strong proposal along with strong ideas. There was mostly positive feedback with
some negative feedback which shows me that even though my proposal is good and has
strong ideas to it. I could still improve it with extra detail and/or editing parts of it.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree with most parts of my feedback about things such as the detail in my pitch being
a good amount, and how the mixture of fonts had helped. As well as the improvements
that need to be made by adding in things such as why I chose to do one story and not
the others and more detail perhaps with my mind maps. Also making links to my story in
my proposal.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
There is only one part I do not agree with which is about the mind maps because I think
mood boards give more of a visual aid to help picture the idea of the story in my head.

There once was a shepherd boy who was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep.
To amuse himself he took a great breath and sang out, "Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!"
The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the wolf away. But when they arrived at
the top of the hill, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces.
"Don't cry 'wolf', shepherd boy," said the villagers, "when there's no wolf!" They went grumbling
back down the hill.
Later, the boy sang out again, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!" To his naughty delight,
he watched the villagers run up the hill to help him drive the wolf away.
When the villagers saw no wolf they sternly said, "Save your frightened song for when there is
really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!"
But the boy just grinned and watched them go grumbling down the hill once more.
Later, he saw a REAL wolf prowling about his flock. Alarmed, he leaped to his feet and sang out as
loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf!"
But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again, and so they didn't come.
At sunset, everyone wondered why the shepherd boy hadn't returned to the village with their
sheep. They went up the hill to find the boy. They found him weeping.
"There really was a wolf here! The flock has scattered! I cried out, "Wolf!" Why didn't you come?"
An old man tried to comfort the boy as they walked back to the village.
"We'll help you look for the lost sheep in the morning," he said, putting his arm around the youth,
"Nobody believes a liar...even when he is telling the truth!"
