The method of collecting this data was made available via logfiles that are common in web servers. In our study the use of Microsoft Internet Information Server was employed which does allow for the ability to capture such information via web server log files. Several items that will be reported on the findings were collected as part of the data collection project, this surrounded the question around preference to using the interactive questionnaire web-based survey system or recording the amount of time to complete the electronic survey, as well as the percentage of participants that completing the survey.

A pilot study was conducted to test a new paperless system for documenting user activity in the NIH Library using touchscreen laptops. Library staff used a form-based software on the laptops that overlaid interactive maps of the library seating areas. Drop-down menus allowed staff to record observed patron activities at each location. The recorded data was exported directly into a database for analysis. The goals of the pilot study were to test the usability of the new system and refine it based on feedback before broader implementation.

The principal goals are to cultivate an open practice, create our work through peer review inside and outside the module and become Networked Practitioners ourselves and to create a Personal Learning Network for a lifetime.
Everyone provided an interesting and thought provoking project and I proud to have worked with all of my colleagues in this module.
iNorthampton Journey

I cover how to design effective mobile field studies, the importance of mobile prototyping, the impact of various design choices on the study setup and deployment, how to engage participants and how to avoid ethical and legal issues. I've also tried to include listings of useful resources for those who are interested in conducting mobile field studies of their own.

Characterization of genes and proteins of cross-species biological pathways
This project developed a process to characterize gene and protein conservation across mammalian species for biological pathways. The process retrieves data from KEGG, BioCarta, Homologene, and UniProt databases to generate matrices showing conservation of genes in pathways across humans, mice, rats, dogs, cows, and chimpanzees. It also identifies known protein variations. The results showed most genes were highly conserved, with some exceptions. Future work includes fully automating the process.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
