HOW DESIGN PROCESS
CAN REFINE YOUR IDEAS?
Workshop that gives you tools to
creative thinking before prototyping.

We are in the middle of cultural change in product fabrication. We are moving
from age of design heros towards age of maker culture. Time, we spent on
reading product reviews is going to be spent more on reading DIY (Do It
Yourself) stories. Birth of Fab Labs, maker communities, easy shared
instructions and advanced fabrication tools, mean easy access to build your
own things to support your personal life individually. This leads into that
design education should be aimed for all of us. Goal is to simplify the design
process, so it will be fast and easy to adapt by everyone. This workshop is
about giving basic tools for polishing your ideas in paper to shine brighter
before going to prototype them. The time you spend on paper will pay you
back later.

design brief
Design ProcessDESIGN BRIEF
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: SYSTEM FOR DROPING AN EGG FROM SECOND FLOOR OF FABLAB TO THE FIRST FLOOR
IN A WAY THAT EGG WONT GET BROKEN.
DESIGN TARGETS:
(Product features) efficiency – Product should be able to protect egg from dropping
endurance – Product needs to last only one dropping
usability - Everyone should be able to use it
ergonomics- system is build only one time use so ergonomics are not very
important for the system. Everyone should be able to use it anyway
TARGET GROUP: people who are attending to the workshop
Brief clarifies/unifies the design goal to the team.

Affinity wallObserve your ideas. Look after similarities.
Organise your ideas into groups. Try to give
names and short describtions to idea groups.
Some of the ideas might belong to multiple groups. Don´t worry.
Just make a copy. Sometimes you get new ideas while organising previous.
It´s OK. You can still add new ideas into the wall.

Design Process
prototyping
If you are not sure of some detail in your
3D model, you can print only that part
first to check how it works
You can also first use cheaper materials
to test. Example cutting first cardboard
with laser.
Design Process
get feedback
After prototype is ready present it to
possible end users. Ask for feedback and
make notes. Test it in real life situations
and try to learn.
Based on feedback and observations
start design process again.
