This document provides an overview of the design process for refining ideas before prototyping. It discusses how cultural changes are leading to more maker culture and DIY opportunities. The workshop aims to simplify the design process so it can be easily adapted by everyone. It will provide basic tools for polishing ideas on paper before prototyping to help ideas shine brighter. The document then walks through the design process from defining a problem, gathering knowledge and inspiration, ideating solutions, sketching, concepting, evaluating, finalizing a concept, making virtual and physical prototypes, getting feedback, and iterating to improve the solution.

2. We are in the middle of cultural change in product fabrication. We are moving
from age of design heros towards age of maker culture. Time, we spent on
reading product reviews is going to be spent more on reading DIY (Do It
Yourself) stories. Birth of Fab Labs, maker communities, easy shared
instructions and advanced fabrication tools, mean easy access to build your
own things to support your personal life individually. This leads into that
design education should be aimed for all of us. Goal is to simplify the design
process, so it will be fast and easy to adapt by everyone. This workshop is
about giving basic tools for polishing your ideas in paper to shine brighter
before going to prototype them. The time you spend on paper will pay you
back later.
