Adam Smith Government
In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith claims a well governed is a prerequisite for a society to be
able to experience universal opulence wherein even individuals from the lowest socio economic
strata are able to bask in prosperity. However, he goes on to imply that even without government
intervention, the mechanism of the invisible hand would effectively provide for a society. This sets
up an immediate tension as it pertains to the role of a governmentin managing its economy and
social welfare: what degree of governmental action is optimal? And more importantly, what
motivates government policy? In the realm of international political economy, Smith decries his
government for its active role in colonialism and mercantilism; practices... Show more content on

As per Smith, it was based on the mistaken notion that the wealth of a society was determined by
the amount of gold in its reserves rather than the value of that gold in terms of production and
consumption. By excluding foreign competition, employers were able to enjoy a greater share of
the market (both domestic and foreign) while laborers endured lower wages and the entirety of
society faced a limited choice in terms of produce, all of which cemented the societal status quo and
allowed for power retention. For governments, who mistakenly thought that international trade was
a zero sum game, mercantilist practice enabled them to feel superior to their trading partners. In this
light, although accumulating wealth was the goal for employers and the government it is
imperative that the underlying reason for this desire be realized. Indeed, the desire for wealth was
merely need for the increase and consolidation of the power of each of these entities. For employers
mercantilism allowed them to maintain a competitive advantage, to accumulate capital and
importantly, to continue to employ labor so that they did not have to become laborers. For the
government, mercantilism was a means of promoting prosperity within borders and asserting their
authority towards other nations in order to remain a contending force in the international
community. Whether or not mercantilism itself was a success does not detract from its intention to
increase and consolidate power of those who held

Analysis Of A Room With A View
A Room With a View by E.M. Forster is a classic tale about a girl from Elizabethan era England
trying to find independence and purpose in the world. Lucy, the novel s main character,
embarks on a journey to Florence, Italy with her cousin during which her whole perspective is
refreshed. She experiences many new things and shares exciting times with people she knows
and meets, and feels like a new person from it. But, when she arrives back home in England, she
begins to feel the enclosure of society back on her again. Florence is a place where she can be
herself, and her home on Summer Street in England is a place where she feels the full force of
class restriction. Lucy arrived in Florence without much of an expectation. All she knew is that
she wanted to experience things like she never had before. Her cousin and chaperone for the
trip, Miss Bartlett, insisted on protecting her so she wouldn t upset Lucy s mother. Lucy,
however, wanted to feel the winds of independence roll over her, and convinced her cousin to
loosen the reigns on her a bit. After an incident in which Lucy had her guidebook stolen from
her, she was left alone on the streets of Florence, with nothing but herself standing in her way.
Florence was described as a magic city where people thought and did the most extraordinary
things that has the power, perhaps, to evoke passions, good and bad, and bring them speedily to
a fulfillment (Page 55). Lucy began to feel this magic of Florence in full force, especially as she
became involved with George Emerson, a young man she had met there. George was of particular
interest to Lucy, as he was trustworthy, intelligent, and even kind (Page 44). She shared her first
kiss with him, albeit somewhat surprisingly, and even more surprisingly, witnessed a murder in the
streets. Things like this could have never happened for Lucy in her hometown. The excitement, the
passion, the freedom, all are things she longed for living in protection. All of this came to a
screeching halt for Lucy, however, when it was time to return home to England. After a few
months elsewhere in Italy, Lucy returned home with a man named Cecil she had met and was now
engaged to marry. To her dismay, she saw very quickly what

Middle School And High School
Growing up I had one favorite class, that class, surprisingly, was English. I was born in
Zacatecas, Mexico on May 9th, 1998 and was brought to the United States at the age of two.
When my parents tried to enroll me into a pre kindergarten program they were told that it was
unnecessary because I was way beyond my age group. My parents told me that it was from all of
the Scooby Doo shows I watched growing up. When kindergarten arrived, I was still forced to
take an English Learners class so I could get the best help that I could get to improve my English
skills. I remember sitting in that class watching all the other students have a difficult time
pronouncing simple words that they should be able to say by now. I stayed in that class until... Show

In 10th grade I had an English teacher by the name of Mrs. Hurley. The school year started with
me disliking her, I thought she was extremely rude and was just cranky all the time. In her class
is where I read my first Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet she made that unit extremely
amusing. She had us split into families and we would have battles, they consisted of games and
quizzes. I was Lord Capulet and my team won of course. After 10th grade she became my
advisory teacher in 12th grade. She easily became one of my favorite teachers that constantly
teased me on my obsession with Adele. The teacher that made the biggest impact in my life was
Mrs. Marn. She was an extremely caring teacher, she did not like watching her students fail. She
made sure that everyone had everything they needed to be successful. She was, I believe, one of
the best English teacher Brooklyn Center High School has ever had. Her passion for books were out
of this world. She talked about authors as if though she has met them. She reminded me of a
hippie in some sorts. She was very open with us and I was close to her. She was my teacher for
10th, 11th, and 12th grade. I read, The Catcher in The Rye in her class and she tore that book up
piece by piece, explaining every motive and how innocence is huge part of that book. She was my
teacher for the college in the schools courses that I took. I felt like I failed her in those classes, she
expected way more of me and I did not perform to

The Modern Day Legal Systems
Human civilization marked the beginning of modern day legal systems. The advancements in
societies resulted in maintaining certain rules and regulations to continue this progress. Every
society has its own set of laws which are in some ways distinct from others. Many of these laws
have common sections and underlying guidelines. This could be because some societies decide
to retain certain aspects of their customs after breaking out of another society. It could also be the
case that over time different societies through trade and other intercultural activities developed
together, which caused them to have agreements in their laws. For many others, it is the case that
they share a common colonial master. The law and legal systems operating today are derivatives
of the forms listed above. Like many other nations today, the laws of ancient civilizations have
affected Canadian law. These include the Code of Hammurabi, the Mosaic law, Greek and Roman
laws, the Magna Carta and a few others. More recently are the civil and common law derived from
the French and British respectively. Canadadid not always have a written constitution. The territory
we now refer to as Canada was once populated by the French and English colonial masters. These
colonists extended the laws of their home countries to their colonies. As the population of this
territory grew and the UK gained control of more colonies including those from the French, regional
laws became a necessity. Between the eighteenth

Technology on the Rise
Technology has been growing throughout the years; ever changing and evolving in all new
ways. It has come natural to us by now, to use technology on anything and everything. We use
technology for even the littlest things, such as looking up a recipe for a meal, or the name of an
actor. It seems to be that the more technology develops, the more addicted and the more
dependent we become. If we really think about how many times we use technology a day, we
will start to realize how much it has consumed us. Think about how many times a day you see
someone on their phone, or on a computer. Now you start to realize how addicted we are. It s so
common for us to use and see people use technology, that we take it for granted and never think

People who use their cell phones while driving are not only a danger to themselves but to
everyone else on the road. It s estimated that at least 23% of all car accidents each year involve
cell phone use that s 1.3 million crashes. (Statistics, lines 38 39) The increased use in cellular
devices seems to be very distracting to drivers and therefore becoming a hazard. Sometimes, you
might catch someone walking into a wall or bumping into others, as if they were a zombie,
because they are too distracted by their technology. As technology can help save our lives in
many different ways, it can also be what causes our lives to be at risk; we should be cautious and
careful how we use it and never become zombified by it. Technology has not only made things
easier for us but has made things in life a lot faster. Cars, trains, planes, and boats have made
traveling around the world so much faster. Places that would take us days to get by car, we can
simply take a plane and get there in a few hours. Phone calls, texting, E mail, and social media
have made it so much faster to talk to friends who live hours always or even across the world.
You can now Facetime or Skype with family and friends to keep in touch, face to face. Computers
now make sending files to jobs, schools, and friends very fast and efficient. Technology allows us
to do many things much faster, but does that make us more dependent on it. Most people have had
that moment when they can t feel their cell

While not overt, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe includes
Christian imagery. Adamson, along with Lewis, revel the imminent physicality of Christ through
Aslan. Their motion picture capture performance is on par with what Christianity is based off: love
and sacrifice. Both Adamson and Lewis explore Christian influences in The Chronicles of Narnia,
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeby addressing how lessons learned in these stories can be
applied to a Christian based life (Appiah, 2006, p.1). The film s strength lies in the director s

Fast Food Rhetorical Analysis
Health Disorders Related to Fast Food
This rhetorical analysis is over the effects of fast food and the health of the person eating it. Eat
fast, die young is the motto of the second spoof ad. The reality is that this spoof ad is accurate.
Studies over the past 30 to 50 years show that fast food and junk food is extremely unhealthy and
causes obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several other diseases. Most fast
food restaurants serve high caloric and low density foods. That means one get a lot of calories and
very little nutrition value from the food. Obesity rates have steadily climbed over the past 60
years as have the number of fast food restaurants. The prevalence of obesity and obesity related
diseases has increased rapidly in the U.S. since the mid 1970s. At the same time, the number of fast
food restaurants more than doubled over the same time period, while the number of other
restaurants grew at a much slower pace. (Currie Vigna Moretti Pathania 1) Saying the fact that
when one eats substantial amounts of fast food, the health of that person will drastically decrease is
definitely true.
Clearly it is not hard to notice that a multitude of people seen on a daily basis are either
overweight or obese. Even though it may not be as noticeable, there is also a large percent of the
population with other fast food related illnesses. Diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and
dietary disorders have all been contributed to

Literature Review
Several studies have shown that injection drug users lower their risk of transmitting infectious
diseases when there is a needle exchange program available. There has not been a valid study of
whether or not the amounts of time needles are returned to the exchange programs are harmful to
communities. The Journal of Public Health, conducted surveys, evidence from needle exchange
sites, jails, and institutions that needle exchange programs are effective in reducing illnesses such
as HIV and AIDS (Burt Theide, 2016). Furthermore, Reepalu, Blome, Bjork, Widell, Bjorkman
(2012), researched the same individuals for 20 years, with no breaks. Their studies concluded that
injection drug use, not only heightens the risk for HIV and AID s, there is also an increase in
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. However, there studies showed that there is not an increase rate of
cancer diagnoses due to injection drug use. In a study conducted by Bonar and Rosenberg (2014),
they wanted to see if self initiated harm strategies, such as: proper needle sterilization techniques,
proper disposal of needles, and cleaning of the pre injected skin, could help improve the health of
those that use drugs intravenously. Their study was conducted over an eight month period, results
showed that their

The International Student Association ( Misa ) Lounge On...
When I initially found out that I was interviewing Josh for my one to one I wasn t too stoked on
the idea. I was a bit worried that our session together might not be as personal as I would like and
that he would find it hard to open up because of our differences. I originally asked him to meet me
at the Minnesota International StudentAssociation (MISA) lounge on the second floor of
Coffman Union. MISA is a space specifically catered to International students and multi cultural
students so I assumed it would be different from what Josh might be accustomed to. When Josh
arrived at the MISA lounge the room was occupied by a student group event, so I took him to the
room right next door, the Asian Student Union lounge. By the way Josh looked around the room,
I could tell that he was a little uncomfortable by the Asianess of the room, so I asked him if he
would rather do the interview somewhere else. He replied back that he was fine with the space so
we carried on with our 1 on 1.
To begin with, I asked Josh to tell me his story and share some significant moments in his life. It
was a very vague question and I didn t expect much contend from his answers. He began with the
very nonspecific details about his childhood growing up in Woodbury, MN and how lived a very
normal life. He talked about how he participated in soccer, baseball and hockey and how sports
kept him occupied while growing up. I felt that he wasn t sharing much so I asked him the question

Essay about William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night as a...
William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night as a Feminist Play
I agree to a certain extent that twelfth night is a feminist play. What exactly is feminism? It simply
means subversion of traditional ideas of gender. This means that men are supposed to be active,
rational, wise, perceptive, loyal and trustworthy. On the other hand, Women are supposed to be
passive, emotional, shallow, vain, deceptive and fickle.
I agree to a certain extent that Twelfth Nightis a feminist play [meaning that I agree to it] as the
female characters are essentially good and most males in the play have flaws. For example, Sir
Andrew is weak, Sir Toby is a drunkard, Orsino is full of self love and Malvolio is extremely ...

The women in this play are also sacrificial. A tremendously good example to proof this is the
character Viola. Viola s love for Orsino is silent and concealed. She is the long suffering woman
and her sincerity is shown in her actions, sacrificing her happiness for Orsino s happiness. Her love
for Orsino is also shown in her silence. She does not indulge in public displays of affection. Rather
her love is silent yet strong and powerful as may be observed in the soliloquy which ends the scene
in a rhyming couplet Yet a barful strife! / Whoe er I wife . These short lines reveal her intense
longing and desire for Orsino. Viola shows a very sacrificial type of love. Viola is in a dilemma
which is due to the fact that she is torn between pleasing Orsino and making him happy by
helping him get Olivia and yet the fear of losing him if she helps him. But despite her dilemma, she
tells Orsino that she will do her best/ To woo his [your] lady . She is sacrificing her own happiness
for Orsino s happiness. Unlike Orsino whose love is not sacrificial at all!
The love he has for Olivia should actually be defined as infatuation because his love is simply not
sacrificial and true love is the total opposite as true love is very sacrificial.
Twelfth Night is also at the same time a play where mostly all the women are witty and intelligent.
Even the female

Progressivism Vs Populism Research Paper
Progressivism and populism were two of the biggest and most popular reform movements in
American society. Even though the ideologies are similar in certain aspects, they are very different
in terms of sources of support and objectives. Progressivism was mostly supported by the middle
class citizens, while Populismwas formed by Western farmers and involved the common people
more. All in all, the two movements were very important reform movements that shaped later
American ideologies. Populism was started in the late 19th century by agrarian people of the
South. Those with farming background believed the government was favoring banks and industry,
so they formed this reform movement It was mostly supported by the poor sections of the rural
South. On the other hand, Progressivism arose in the beginning of the 20th century. It was
supported by the middle class, who were angry with the corruption of the rich and the appeasement
of the poor by the government. The two reform movements were created by two different types of
people, and also had different goals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also a down up movement, which largely involves the masses in the idea and decision

brought by modernization, such as the growth of large corporations and railroads, and fears of
corruption in American politics. One of the main objectives of this movement was to encourage
efficiency. Even though they strived for modernization like the Progressivists, the way of achieving

Prosecuting Attorneys
What are the duties of a prosecutor? The prosecutor has broad discretion in determining whether
or not to charge the accused of a particular crime. Depending on the size of the municipality a
prosecutor serves, job duties can vary. In larger offices, prosecuting attorneys may be assigned to
specific areas of the law, such as traffic violations or juvenile offenses. In smaller offices, they may
be responsible for all aspects of criminal prosecution.
Prosecuting attorneys begin a case by reviewing police reports and performing research. They may
meet with witnesses or victims. They use their gathered information in court to present the case
against the accused defendant. Prosecuting attorneys must follow cases through each stage of the

The Value Of Education
Education should be valued to the highest extent. Education is how we obtain knowledge about our
surrounding. Education gives us a perspective on issues, politics, and on life in general. Education
allows us to interpret things in uniques that we didn t imagine were possible. Most importantly,
education gives us a platform to change the world. Without education, many people would be lost.
Education is a delicate process that should be handled with care. Educators have the abilities to
form knowledge within their students. Some of them use their abilities to the fullest power, while
others completely abuse their abilities. As an 18 year old college student, I have come across both
kinds of educators, even though I wish I had not. In my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Female Characters In A Lesson Before Dying
The fictional town of Bayonne in A Lesson Before Dying is based on a plantation where the
author Ernest J. Gaines was born. This novel took place in the late 1940s a time when radical
discrimination was a major problem, and the Jim Crow laws validated segregation and
discrimination. Although the major personalities are males, there are three femalecharacters that
influence the males to solve the difficulties in their life they would usually ignore. Each female
character persuades and motivates Jefferson and Grant from running away from their
responsibilities. Tante Lou and Miss Emma convince Grant to make Jefferson die like a man and
not a hog, and Vivian makes Grant stay in the quarter and not run away from his purpose in his life.
One of the first female characters introduced is Miss Emma, Jefferson s godmother. The first
description of Miss Emma is in the courtroom where she is described as a heavy set woman
weighing approximately two hundred pounds. We know she is a caring woman because while in
the courtroom she never got up to use the bathroom or get a glass of water. Even though she may
not be strong enough to sway the juries mind or protect Jefferson of the unfair sentencing of death
by electrocution. She is strong enough to stay in the courtroom and give the support that Jefferson
needs. Everyone by now knew what the outcome would be for Jefferson. Gaines illustrates the
reason why Miss Emma and the other blacks were upset was because his defense attorney called

An Updated Background Check System Will Help Prevent Gun Violence Guns and Crime, 2012
Formed in 2006, Mayors Against Illegal Guns is a coalition of over 550 mayors who support
reforms to fight illegal gun trafficking and gun violence in the United States, while still respecting
the Second Amendment. The background check system designed by Congress in 1993 to prohibit
dangerous people from purchasing guns is not working effectively. But with the enforcement of
critical new regulations, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) could be
an effective tool in preventing gun violence. One such regulation would require the names of all
people known to be dangerous or criminal be registered in the NICS database, and those... Show

Revised legislation would strengthen the NICS system in six ways: Funding: Fully fund the
NICS Improvement Amendments Act to help agencies and states cover the costs of gathering
records and making them electronically available to the FBI. The legislation, enacted in 2008,
is failing to achieve its goals in part because Congress has supplied only 5.3% of the authorized
amount from Fiscal Year 2009 through Fiscal Year 2011. That money was supposed to be
available to states to help cover the cost of gathering and supplying records. The revised law
would guarantee full funding to states and federal agencies to comply with reporting requirements
to the NICS database. Penalties: Establish tougher penalties for states that do not comply with the
law by cutting more of their Justice Department funding. The NICS Improvement Amendments
Act establishes only minor penalties for non compliance. It sets out a timeline, and in each year
starting in Fiscal Year 2011 states are required to turn over a target percentage of the records they
have naming people who should not be allowed to buy guns under federal law. If they do not
comply, they could face cuts to a portion of their federal justice assistance funding. The potential
cuts are small, however: only 3% to 5% of a single grant (Byrne Justice Assistance Grants or JAG),
which provides about $300 million a year nationwide to states. Furthermore, DOJ [Department of

The Representation of Gender in Bond s Films Goldeneye and Goldfinger
There are two films in particular that I have chosen to look at that show how the representation of
gender in Bond movies has changed throughout the years. These two films are Goldeneye and
Goldfinger.
There are many reasons that the representation of gender has changed between these two films.
The most obvious being a change in society. The two films were made thirty one years apart.
Women are now accepted as being something more that just producing babies and being there to be
slept with.
Between the Bond films Licensed to Kill and Goldeneye a lot of changes in characters were made.
This is due to a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This demonstrates exactly how women s roles have changed.
We see Bond as a hero from the start of both Goldeneye and Goldfinger the difference being that in
the earlier film, Bond used the woman, who he is kissing as a shield to save himself from being

shows how women are represented as being disposable.
In the later film Goldeneye Bond puts Natalias life first, when the train is about to blow up. This
shows how representation of gender has changed from the earlier film. Bond now sees Natalia as
an equal and wants to ensure that she is safe before himself.
Another example of how in the earlier films women were seen to be sex objects is when Bond is
talking to a pretty blond woman, but as soon as Felix comes arrives Bond slaps the woman on the
bottom and send her on her way declaring that she is no longer required because its mans talk.
In Goldfinger women are there for amusement, a trophy figure. Goldfinger himself demonstrates
this himself by paying Gill to be seen with him.
Goldeneye shows how women are more equal. Zenia Onatopp shows how women are being
represented. When racing with Bond she is equally as good. She challenges him and is very
assertive. Zenia is represented in the same way as the men from Goldfinger. (The men are all sat

Love and Marriage in Pride and Prejudice Essays
How does Jane Austen present love and marriage in Pride and
Prejudice?
Jane Austen presents love and marriage in many ways in the novel
Pride and Prejudice. In this essay I am going to discuss some of these marriages, not only from
Jane Austen s portrayl of her characters but also from my own point of view.
Jane Austen opens Pride and Prejudice with a statement:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must want
be in want of a wife.
By using this statement as her opening line she makes it very clear that she is humoured by the
idea that every young an who has a large sum of money are eagerly looking for a wife. The main
part of her book is based on matrimony. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Mr Bennet speaks to his beloved daughter Lizzie, he feelingly says to her,
My dear child, let me not have the grief of seeing you unable to respect your partner in life. You
know not what you are about.
This happens when Mr Darcy has just proposed to Elizabeth. When I question why Mr and Mrs
Bennet s marriage is so unsuccessful, I am faced with three points that I think contribute to their
marital problem. Between Mr and Mrs Bennet there is no intellectual equality. Mr
Bennet is clever, but on the other hand his wife isn t, in fact Mrs
Bennet is a fool! She does not understand her husband in the slightest manner, and so Mr Bennet
frequently takes this opportunity to make a quick comment that will offend Mrs Bennet. Jane
Austen says, The experience of three and twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife
understand his temper.
These twenty three years of his unhappy marriage had brought Mrs
Bennet s characteristics out in a true light. She was a woman of mean understanding, very little
information and an uncertain temper. She fancied herself nervous whenever she felt discontented.
The business of her life was to get her daughters married, it seemed that was all the poor woman
ever went on a bout and it infuriated Mr Bennet greatly. The second point is that Mr Bennet never
showed any respect for his wife and almost seemed to enjoy ridiculing her in front of her

The Russian Revolution was caused by many things. Some of the reasons are poverty, hunger, and
hard labor. Some reasons may look more important than others, but I believe these reasons are just
as important as any other reason. Poverty, hunger, and hard labor are big reasons why there was
Russian Revolution. Poverty was a big part of the Russian Revolution. According to Document 1, ...
peasants do not have enough allotment land, and cannot during the year feed themselves, clothe

Compare The Rate Law For The Reaction Between Crystal...
Rate Law for the reaction crystal violet and hydroxide ions
Objective
This experiment was to determine the rate law for the crystal violet with hydroxyl ions reaction.
Materials
Crystal violet dye, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and spectrophotometer were used in this experiment.
Theory
The rate of reaction is a topic in chemical kinetics that explains the speed at which the chemicals
interact or it is the rate at which a product is formed by a chemical reaction. There are factors that
determine the rate of a particular reaction. These factors include; reactant concentration, the
temperature of the reaction and presence or absence of a catalyst. Most chemical reactions increase
in speed as the concentration of the reactant increases. This is because ... Show more content on

This is because the moles of crystal violet dye react with the hydroxyl ions present in sodium
hydroxide (Wheeler and Sigmann 328). The slopes of both the first order and second order graphs
of In (concentration) against time gave the rate constant (k) of each reactant. For the first order
absorbance reaction, the concentration of sodium hydroxide was 0.01M, which has a reaction rate
constant of 0.055 (mol dm 3 s 1) while the reaction rate constant of the first order absorbance
where the concentration of sodium hydroxide, 0.020M, was 0.095 (mol dm 3 s 1). When rate
constant (NaOH 0.01M) was divided by (NaOH 0.020M) gave 0.579 (mol dm 3 s 1). The
functional change of y as the concentration rate changes is calculated to be 0.8. Therefore, the
order of reaction with respect to the hydroxyl ions was 0.8.
Conclusion
In this experiment, the reaction order with respect to hydroxyl ions was calculated. The
comparison of rate 1 (initial concentration) and rate two (second concentration) showed that the
value of y which is the rate of reaction in respect to hydroxyl ions was 0.8. Therefore, the order
of reaction with respect to hydroxide ions was 0.8. By using the graphical method, the value of
x=1. x represents the order of reaction with respect to dye(crystal violet). The overall rate law was
found to be; Rate=k [crystal violet] 1[hydroxide ions]

Who Is Lily In The Giver

when Lily turns eight, she starts wearing a front button coat with smaller buttons and small
pockets as a sign that they are old enough to start keeping track of small belongings . She has
very long dreams and always tells a lengthy description at breakfast. Since she is only eight, she
says she is looking forward to getting a bicycle when she turns nine. She bickers occasionally with
Jonas because they are siblings, but they always make up, because they live in a perfect world.
When the familystarts taking care of Gabriel, she becomes attached to him and it is clear she

They know that growth is lacking and that in order to survive, DMC must alter course now. Senior
leadership needs to determine which market segment to pursue, and how this strategy may or may
not affect other areas of the company including, but not limited to: Human Resources,
Manufacturing and Distribution. Senior leadership must also be aware that any change in strategy
will influence I.T. also. While IT is a broad minded team willing to offer up technical solutions to
advance product development and sales, their budget, as well as other departments has been
inhibited over the course of current recession and the inconsistency of returns to the company.
Finance and accounting continue to be apprehensive about cash flow demands and financial

especially on morale. DMC is also dealing with the ever changing nature in the electronics industry.
Responding to market forces has always been difficult due to the nature of the product and large

margins become immediate priorities. Innovation is not an option, rather it is a requirement for
preserving a competitive advantage. Growing market share is a slow process that happens to
companies who adapt quickly.

Examples Of Irony In The Landlady
Roald Dahl s realistic fiction story The Landlady takes place at a BED AND BREAKFAST in
Bath, London. Billy Weaver is trying to find a place to stay for a bit and he finds a Bed and
Breakfast. He meets the landlady, he finds her kind of strange but doesn t think much of her. By
using irony and personification he creates a lesson about trust it is earned, not given.
Trust can impact the rest of someone s life; whether they are a liar or they always tell the truth,
one little thing can change everything. One example of this is when Billy gets his tea, he
smells a peculiar smell. Dahl writes. Now and again, he caught a whiff of a peculiar smell that
seemed to emanate directly from her person. . . Pickled walnuts? New leather? Or was it the
corridors of a hospital? There is no such thing as pickled walnut tea. What he is smelling is

legal problems that Denny s encountered years ago directly related to diversity within the work

Now there are numerous instances where African Americanpatrons were treated differently from

Anorexia Nervosa And The Adolescent Self Essay
The thought of a diet has crossed the mind of many females. Maybe she wants to lose a few
pounds to fit in her prom dress, or get back down to her college size. However, what if the mental
capacity of that person, would not let them end the diet. In her mind she is still fat, even if she
weighed only ninety pounds, this happens to a female with Anorexia Nervous (AN).
Merriam Webster.com defines Anorexia Nervous as: a serious disorder in eating behavior
primarily of young women in their teens and early twenties that is characterized especially by a
pathological fear of weight gain leading to faulty eating patterns, malnutrition, and usually
excessive weight loss . Fifth teen percent of the people with eating disorders are male which
leaves ninety five to be female (Boskind White 219). Author, Wendy Jones also agrees with
Merriam Webster.com that AN begins at adolescent, as she implies in her magazine article
Anorexia Nervosa and the Adolescent Self it reads:
Often, anorexia surfaces around puberty, which is of course when the young person is searching
for self identity; if the foundations of this are weak, for whatever reason, perhaps it is not
surprising that this is when the illness develops. It seems likely, though, that all sorts of things are
happening within the individual psyche prior to this, which could potentially be worked on earlier,
with the aim of preventing the full blown illness from developing.

As mentioned by Naseer, Chisti, Aahman and Jumani (2011), Emotional Intelligence (EI) concept

Khoisan Superiority
For a long time South Africa was inhabitable until a group known as the Khoisan traveled there,
where they lived for many years as the superior group until the group known as the Afrikaners
came and took that superiority. A Little while after the Afrikaners came is when things really
started to change. They started developing superiority over the Khoisan. Some reasons for this
are that they started to develope an early sense of dominance over the Khoisan and The Battle of
Blood River. The Afrikaners developed an early state of dominance by taking land and cattle
from the Khoisan. This was because when Jan van Riebeeck had to lay of men they needed

Sekhmet, The Goddess Of The Gods And Goddesss In Ancient...
Ancient Egyptian civilization flourished with art and culture. Many aspects of Egyptian life were
over the top. One of those areas in particular was the way Egyptians worshipped their gods and
goddesses and depicted them in art. Their deities were prevalent in every part of Egyptian life; they
were all important, even if only to a local nome. One chiefly important goddess portrayed
throughout Egyptian artwork was Sekhmet, the goddess of war. Sekhmet, though a goddess filled
with bloodlust and a belligerent nature, was not only the goddess of war, but also goddess of
divine retribution, pestilence, vengeance, and conquest. Both a warrior and solar goddess,
Sekhmet was represented as a lioness and was often portrayed with a human body and the head
of a lioness. In some temples, tame lions were even kept to honor her. Sometimes, as seen in
Figure 1, she was shown in her cobra crown as well as with a sun disk. The sun disk represents her
connection to Re, the sun god, as well as her being a solar deity. The rearing cobra or uraeus also
appeared as a sign that the cobra and Sekhmet were collectively protecting the pharaoh. (The
Metropolitan Museum). Because of this uraeus she adorned, Sekhmet was sometimes associated
with Wadjet, the goddess of Lower Egypt.
Most often though, she was associated with Bastet, another feline goddess, though one of protection
rather than vengeance. Bastet was sometimes seen as Sekhmet s gentle counterpart. And although

Review Of The Last Of The Mohicans

Early American Literature: Critique #3
The Book vs The Movie The main difference between, The Last of the Mohicans, book by James
Fenimore Cooper and the last of the Mohicans movie, is that the book has a more adventurous
theme and the moive has a more romantic and love them. I felt that both stories were extremely
interesting.
Due to the text s complexityz and the author s peculiar writing style, it took me quite a while to
get into the story, thus reducing my reading speed considerably. But, once I was one third into the
book, I started to really enjoy it and, as the narrative became more and more complex, I became
aware of how much the book and the movie differ.
I think that the most shocking difference between the book and the movie is the relationship
between Hawk eye, the scout, and Duncan, the major. If in Mann s movie there s hatred between
La Longue Carabine (aka Hawk eye) and Duncan Heyward, in Cooper s book their relationship is
based on respect and both are willing to give their lives in order to save the others.

conflicts with my personal values. Over two years ago, I moved to the Boston area for this job

places I had lived. I also expected social and economic differences. Being the newcomer, to the
work situation and environment, there was the need for me to learn about the governmental rules

learned to call Massachusetts a Commonwealth, not a State. For a time, I embraced the cultural

Specifically, I applied my work to situational favorability. Partly due to being a union

Therefore, out of necessity, I have focused on leader member relations. At first, I was frustrated

Anabolic Steroids In Sports
In society today, winning is considered everything. Man is always trying to beat their opponent no
matter what it takes. Some athletes are willing to do anything that could potentially be life
threatening in order to get their 15 seconds of fame. This something is known as anabolic steroids.
Anabolic steroids have come to improve many athletes physical activity, but also ruin an immense
amount of lives forever. Although it may give someone the power to feel good, be stronger, and

Unfortunately, it is not completely uncommon for athletes to test positive for steroids. Amazing,
talented competitors like Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, and Lance Armstrong were all illegal users
of steroids. They did as many things as they could to not get caught, but eventually they did.
Imagine all of the die hard fans that found out that their favorite athlete cheated through sports.
Kids look up to athletes as role models and aspire to be like them one day, but the let down of
discovering that an athlete wasn t competing the way its body naturally could is devastating.
Seeing all this success through the use of steroids could actually promote people to use it. This is
an extremely bad idea because anabolic steroids ultimately lead to a path of physical and mental
hopelessness. Anabolic steroids can be extremely harmful. If the body is already producing a proper
amount of testosterone, there is no reason to be adding more. It is unhealthy for the body and
results in abnormal effects. Acne, liver disorders, blood pressure increase, possible HIV, sexual

taking steroids. None of these are positive, so why should athletes be using them if they have

Business Process Of Small Business
Introduction The process of small business creation requires that entrepreneurs engage significant
analysis and planning. There are many considerations that a potential small business owner must
make to ensure that they are making not only the best decisions for the business itself, but for them
as individuals. Entrepreneurs must identify things such as the product(s) and/or service(s) they
wish to offer to their customers, how they will market their offerings, where they will locate their
business, how they will manage that business, etc. All of these elements play a critical role in the
successful operations and profit earning capabilities of the businesses. This paper sets out to
identify the factors an entrepreneur must consider when deciding on the ownership model for the
business. It will then examine the advantages and disadvantages of starting a business through
franchising. Lastly, this paper will examine the criteria an entrepreneur should evaluate before
purchasing an existing business.
List several factors an entrepreneur should consider before choosing a form of ownership?
One of the most significant decisions an entrepreneur will make will center on the ownership of
their organization (Scarborough Cornwall, 2014, p. 138). This organizational component is crucial
to the successful operation of the business and as such, there are a number of considerations
entrepreneurs must make when selecting the appropriate ownership model of their small business.

Social And Economic Policy Decisions Impact Income Equality
Social and economic policy decisions impact income equality, which has an effect on the health
of Canadians. Those with lower incomes are directly affected while income inequality affects
the health of all Canadians through weakening of social structure (Raphael, 2002). Contrary to
reports of rising net worth, a new report has been released by an Ottawa based think tank to show
Canada s inequality problem. The top 10 percent of Canadians have seen their net worth grow by
42% since 2005 to 2.1 million in 2012. However, the bottom 10 percent saw their net worth shrink
by 150 percent (Flavelle, 2014). With this new report, it challenges the idea that suggests Canadians
are getting wealthier laterally (Flavelle, 2014). This paper will examine... Show more content on

For example, the reduction of deaths from infectious diseases such as influenza, diphtheria and
typhoid were due to improvements in general living conditions rather than medical cures (Raphael,
2002) It is hypothesized that lifestyle differences are the reasons for the incidence of stroke, heart
disease and cancer.
Health and Poverty
Vulnerable populations including immigrants, Aboriginal peoples, single parent families and the
elderly make up a growing percentage of the lower extreme of the socioeconomic scale (Turnbull,
J. Podymow T, 2002). While we are quick to consider the costs of aiding the poor, we rarely
consider the costs that poverty and income inequality inflict on our society. To achieve improved
health, it is critical to improve income security through good jobs, income supports and fairer taxes
(Barnes et al., 2013).
There are two broad strategies that focus on alleviating the effects of poverty on health: 1) directly
reducing poverty and socio economic inequality 2) intervening in pathways connecting poverty and
health. These interventions have been identified as upstream and downstream. Downstream
policies refer to those that have an explicit health purpose and tend to be targeted at those that are
already suffering from increased health risk, while upstream refers to the wider influences on health
inequalities such as income distribution, education and housing. While these approaches fall

  • 2. Adam Smith Government In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith claims a well governed is a prerequisite for a society to be able to experience universal opulence wherein even individuals from the lowest socio economic strata are able to bask in prosperity. However, he goes on to imply that even without government intervention, the mechanism of the invisible hand would effectively provide for a society. This sets up an immediate tension as it pertains to the role of a governmentin managing its economy and social welfare: what degree of governmental action is optimal? And more importantly, what motivates government policy? In the realm of international political economy, Smith decries his government for its active role in colonialism and mercantilism; practices... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As per Smith, it was based on the mistaken notion that the wealth of a society was determined by the amount of gold in its reserves rather than the value of that gold in terms of production and consumption. By excluding foreign competition, employers were able to enjoy a greater share of the market (both domestic and foreign) while laborers endured lower wages and the entirety of society faced a limited choice in terms of produce, all of which cemented the societal status quo and allowed for power retention. For governments, who mistakenly thought that international trade was a zero sum game, mercantilist practice enabled them to feel superior to their trading partners. In this light, although accumulating wealth was the goal for employers and the government it is imperative that the underlying reason for this desire be realized. Indeed, the desire for wealth was merely need for the increase and consolidation of the power of each of these entities. For employers mercantilism allowed them to maintain a competitive advantage, to accumulate capital and importantly, to continue to employ labor so that they did not have to become laborers. For the government, mercantilism was a means of promoting prosperity within borders and asserting their authority towards other nations in order to remain a contending force in the international community. Whether or not mercantilism itself was a success does not detract from its intention to increase and consolidate power of those who held ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of A Room With A View A Room With a View by E.M. Forster is a classic tale about a girl from Elizabethan era England trying to find independence and purpose in the world. Lucy, the novel s main character, embarks on a journey to Florence, Italy with her cousin during which her whole perspective is refreshed. She experiences many new things and shares exciting times with people she knows and meets, and feels like a new person from it. But, when she arrives back home in England, she begins to feel the enclosure of society back on her again. Florence is a place where she can be herself, and her home on Summer Street in England is a place where she feels the full force of class restriction. Lucy arrived in Florence without much of an expectation. All she knew is that she wanted to experience things like she never had before. Her cousin and chaperone for the trip, Miss Bartlett, insisted on protecting her so she wouldn t upset Lucy s mother. Lucy, however, wanted to feel the winds of independence roll over her, and convinced her cousin to loosen the reigns on her a bit. After an incident in which Lucy had her guidebook stolen from her, she was left alone on the streets of Florence, with nothing but herself standing in her way. Florence was described as a magic city where people thought and did the most extraordinary things that has the power, perhaps, to evoke passions, good and bad, and bring them speedily to a fulfillment (Page 55). Lucy began to feel this magic of Florence in full force, especially as she became involved with George Emerson, a young man she had met there. George was of particular interest to Lucy, as he was trustworthy, intelligent, and even kind (Page 44). She shared her first kiss with him, albeit somewhat surprisingly, and even more surprisingly, witnessed a murder in the streets. Things like this could have never happened for Lucy in her hometown. The excitement, the passion, the freedom, all are things she longed for living in protection. All of this came to a screeching halt for Lucy, however, when it was time to return home to England. After a few months elsewhere in Italy, Lucy returned home with a man named Cecil she had met and was now engaged to marry. To her dismay, she saw very quickly what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Modern Day Legal Systems Human civilization marked the beginning of modern day legal systems. The advancements in societies resulted in maintaining certain rules and regulations to continue this progress. Every society has its own set of laws which are in some ways distinct from others. Many of these laws have common sections and underlying guidelines. This could be because some societies decide to retain certain aspects of their customs after breaking out of another society. It could also be the case that over time different societies through trade and other intercultural activities developed together, which caused them to have agreements in their laws. For many others, it is the case that they share a common colonial master. The law and legal systems operating today are derivatives of the forms listed above. Like many other nations today, the laws of ancient civilizations have affected Canadian law. These include the Code of Hammurabi, the Mosaic law, Greek and Roman laws, the Magna Carta and a few others. It has come natural to us by now, to use technology on anything and everything. We use technology for even the littlest things, such as looking up a recipe for a meal, or the name of an actor. It seems to be that the more technology develops, the more addicted and the more dependent we become. If we really think about how many times we use technology a day, we will start to realize how much it has consumed us. It s estimated that at least 23% of all car accidents each year involve cell phone use that s 1.3 million crashes. (Statistics, lines 38 39) The increased use in cellular devices seems to be very distracting to drivers and therefore becoming a hazard. Sometimes, you might catch someone walking into a wall or bumping into others, as if they were a zombie, because they are too distracted by their technology. As technology can help save our lives in many different ways, it can also be what causes our lives to be at risk; we should be cautious and careful how we use it and never become zombified by it. Technology has not only made things easier for us but has made things in life a lot faster. Cars, trains, planes, and boats have made traveling around the world so much faster. Adamson, along with Lewis, revel the imminent physicality of Christ through Aslan. Their motion picture capture performance is on par with what Christianity is based off: love and sacrifice. Both Adamson and Lewis explore Christian influences in The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeby addressing how lessons learned in these stories can be applied to a Christian based life (Appiah, 2006, p.1). • 10. Fast Food Rhetorical Analysis Health Disorders Related to Fast Food This rhetorical analysis is over the effects of fast food and the health of the person eating it. Eat fast, die young is the motto of the second spoof ad. The reality is that this spoof ad is accurate. Studies over the past 30 to 50 years show that fast food and junk food is extremely unhealthy and causes obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several other diseases. Most fast food restaurants serve high caloric and low density foods. That means one get a lot of calories and very little nutrition value from the food. Obesity rates have steadily climbed over the past 60 years as have the number of fast food restaurants. The prevalence of obesity and obesity related diseases has increased rapidly in the U.S. since the mid 1970s. At the same time, the number of fast food restaurants more than doubled over the same time period, while the number of other restaurants grew at a much slower pace. Needle Exchange Program Group 9 Austyn Bolander, Chelsea Dugger, Catherine Hoover, Chris Giles, Cassandra Brown, Skiveta Rivera Indiana University East School of Nursing Literature Review Several studies have shown that injection drug users lower their risk of transmitting infectious diseases when there is a needle exchange program available. There has not been a valid study of whether or not the amounts of time needles are returned to the exchange programs are harmful to communities. The Journal of Public Health, conducted surveys, evidence from needle exchange sites, jails, and institutions that needle exchange programs are effective in reducing illnesses such as HIV and AIDS (Burt Theide, 2016). Furthermore, Reepalu, Blome, Bjork, Widell, Bjorkman (2012), researched the same individuals for 20 years, with no breaks. Their studies concluded that injection drug use, not only heightens the risk for HIV and AID s, there is also an increase in Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. However, there studies showed that there is not an increase rate of cancer diagnoses due to injection drug use. In a study conducted by Bonar and Rosenberg (2014), they wanted to see if self initiated harm strategies, such as: proper needle sterilization techniques, proper disposal of needles, and cleaning of the pre injected skin, could help improve the health of those that use drugs intravenously. Their study was conducted over an eight month period, results showed that their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was a bit worried that our session together might not be as personal as I would like and that he would find it hard to open up because of our differences. I originally asked him to meet me at the Minnesota International StudentAssociation (MISA) lounge on the second floor of Coffman Union. MISA is a space specifically catered to International students and multi cultural students so I assumed it would be different from what Josh might be accustomed to. When Josh arrived at the MISA lounge the room was occupied by a student group event, so I took him to the room right next door, the Asian Student Union lounge. By the way Josh looked around the room, I could tell that he was a little uncomfortable by the Asianess of the room, so I asked him if he would rather do the interview somewhere else. He replied back that he was fine with the space so we carried on with our 1 on 1. To begin with, I asked Josh to tell me his story and share some significant moments in his life. It was a very vague question and I didn t expect much contend from his answers. He began with the very nonspecific details about his childhood growing up in Woodbury, MN and how lived a very normal life. He talked about how he participated in soccer, baseball and hockey and how sports kept him occupied while growing up. I felt that he wasn t sharing much so I asked him the question again about a ... • 13. Essay about William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night as a... William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night as a Feminist Play I agree to a certain extent that twelfth night is a feminist play. What exactly is feminism? It simply means subversion of traditional ideas of gender. This means that men are supposed to be active, rational, wise, perceptive, loyal and trustworthy. On the other hand, Women are supposed to be passive, emotional, shallow, vain, deceptive and fickle. I agree to a certain extent that Twelfth Nightis a feminist play [meaning that I agree to it] as the female characters are essentially good and most males in the play have flaws. The women in this play are also sacrificial. A tremendously good example to proof this is the character Viola. Viola s love for Orsino is silent and concealed. She is the long suffering woman and her sincerity is shown in her actions, sacrificing her happiness for Orsino s happiness. Her love for Orsino is also shown in her silence. She does not indulge in public displays of affection. Rather her love is silent yet strong and powerful as may be observed in the soliloquy which ends the scene in a rhyming couplet Yet a barful strife! / Whoe er I wife . These short lines reveal her intense longing and desire for Orsino. Viola shows a very sacrificial type of love. Viola is in a dilemma which is due to the fact that she is torn between pleasing Orsino and making him happy by helping him get Olivia and yet the fear of losing him if she helps him. But despite her dilemma, she tells Orsino that she will do her best/ To woo his [your] lady . She is sacrificing her own happiness for Orsino s happiness. Unlike Orsino whose love is not sacrificial at all! The love he has for Olivia should actually be defined as infatuation because his love is simply not sacrificial and true love is the total opposite as true love is very sacrificial. Even though the ideologies are similar in certain aspects, they are very different in terms of sources of support and objectives. Progressivism was mostly supported by the middle class citizens, while Populismwas formed by Western farmers and involved the common people more. This novel took place in the late 1940s a time when radical discrimination was a major problem, and the Jim Crow laws validated segregation and discrimination. Although the major personalities are males, there are three femalecharacters that influence the males to solve the difficulties in their life they would usually ignore. Each female character persuades and motivates Jefferson and Grant from running away from their responsibilities. Tante Lou and Miss Emma convince Grant to make Jefferson die like a man and not a hog, and Vivian makes Grant stay in the quarter and not run away from his purpose in his life. One of the first female characters introduced is Miss Emma, Jefferson s godmother. The first description of Miss Emma is in the courtroom where she is described as a heavy set woman weighing approximately two hundred pounds. We know she is a caring woman because while in the courtroom she never got up to use the bathroom or get a glass of water. Even though she may not be strong enough to sway the juries mind or protect Jefferson of the unfair sentencing of death by electrocution. Revised legislation would strengthen the NICS system in six ways: Funding: Fully fund the NICS Improvement Amendments Act to help agencies and states cover the costs of gathering records and making them electronically available to the FBI. The legislation, enacted in 2008, is failing to achieve its goals in part because Congress has supplied only 5.3% of the authorized amount from Fiscal Year 2009 through Fiscal Year 2011. That money was supposed to be available to states to help cover the cost of gathering and supplying records. The revised law would guarantee full funding to states and federal agencies to comply with reporting requirements to the NICS database. Penalties: Establish tougher penalties for states that do not comply with the law by cutting more of their Justice Department funding. The NICS Improvement Amendments Act establishes only minor penalties for non compliance. It sets out a timeline, and in each year starting in Fiscal Year 2011 states are required to turn over a target percentage of the records they have naming people who should not be allowed to buy guns under federal law. In the later film Goldeneye Bond puts Natalias life first, when the train is about to blow up. This shows how representation of gender has changed from the earlier film. She does not understand her husband in the slightest manner, and so Mr Bennet frequently takes this opportunity to make a quick comment that will offend Mrs Bennet. This is because the moles of crystal violet dye react with the hydroxyl ions present in sodium hydroxide (Wheeler and Sigmann 328). The slopes of both the first order and second order graphs of In (concentration) against time gave the rate constant (k) of each reactant. For the first order absorbance reaction, the concentration of sodium hydroxide was 0.01M, which has a reaction rate constant of 0.055 (mol dm 3 s 1) while the reaction rate constant of the first order absorbance where the concentration of sodium hydroxide, 0.020M, was 0.095 (mol dm 3 s 1). When rate constant (NaOH 0.01M) was divided by (NaOH 0.020M) gave 0.579 (mol dm 3 s 1). The functional change of y as the concentration rate changes is calculated to be 0.8. Therefore, the order of reaction with respect to the hydroxyl ions was 0.8. Conclusion In this experiment, the reaction order with respect to hydroxyl ions was calculated. The comparison of rate 1 (initial concentration) and rate two (second concentration) showed that the value of y which is the rate of reaction in respect to hydroxyl ions was 0.8. Therefore, the order of reaction with respect to hydroxide ions was 0.8. By using the graphical method, the value of x=1. x represents the order of reaction with respect to dye(crystal violet). Ray was also a known criminal who robbed multiple banks and was arrested many times. When Ray was arrested during a botched bank robbery he found a bounty for Martin Luther King Jr. for 50,000 dollars. After that Ray most likely started formulating his plan to kill King and earn the 50,000 dollar reward for claiming the bounty. Ray and his 3 older brothers were always planning and talking about killing major civil rights leaders and stopping the movement. So one day one of Ray s brothers came to visit him the day before he broke out of jail again. Ray s brothers denied being a part of Ray s plan in anyway or helping Ray escape from jail and go on the run. It has been proven however while Ray was on the run that he met up with his brothers multiple times after Ray escaped from prison. • 33. Anorexia Nervosa And The Adolescent Self Essay The thought of a diet has crossed the mind of many females. Maybe she wants to lose a few pounds to fit in her prom dress, or get back down to her college size. However, what if the mental capacity of that person, would not let them end the diet. In her mind she is still fat, even if she weighed only ninety pounds, this happens to a female with Anorexia Nervous (AN). Merriam Webster.com defines Anorexia Nervous as: a serious disorder in eating behavior primarily of young women in their teens and early twenties that is characterized especially by a pathological fear of weight gain leading to faulty eating patterns, malnutrition, and usually excessive weight loss . Fifth teen percent of the people with eating disorders are male which leaves ninety five to be female (Boskind White 219). Author, Wendy Jones also agrees with Merriam Webster.com that AN begins at adolescent, as she implies in her magazine article Anorexia Nervosa and the Adolescent Self it reads: Often, anorexia surfaces around puberty, which is of course when the young person is searching for self identity; if the foundations of this are weak, for whatever reason, perhaps it is not surprising that this is when the illness develops. It seems likely, though, that all sorts of things are happening within the individual psyche prior to this, which could potentially be worked on earlier, with the aim of preventing the full blown illness from developing. However, there are others like the who suggests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Khoisan Superiority For a long time South Africa was inhabitable until a group known as the Khoisan traveled there, where they lived for many years as the superior group until the group known as the Afrikaners came and took that superiority. A Little while after the Afrikaners came is when things really started to change. They started developing superiority over the Khoisan. Some reasons for this are that they started to develope an early sense of dominance over the Khoisan and The Battle of Blood River. The Afrikaners developed an early state of dominance by taking land and cattle from the Khoisan. This was because when Jan van Riebeeck had to lay of men they needed somewhere to live so he gave the men 28 acres of land that was used by the Khoisan. As a result Khoisan tried to fight back ,but didn t stand a chance against the Afrikaners who had much better weapons like guns. The Khoisan then realized that they wouldn t stand a chance and that they were weaker, so they became free laborers for the Afrikaners. • 36. Sekhmet, The Goddess Of The Gods And Goddesss In Ancient... Ancient Egyptian civilization flourished with art and culture. Many aspects of Egyptian life were over the top. One of those areas in particular was the way Egyptians worshipped their gods and goddesses and depicted them in art. Their deities were prevalent in every part of Egyptian life; they were all important, even if only to a local nome. One chiefly important goddess portrayed throughout Egyptian artwork was Sekhmet, the goddess of war. Sekhmet, though a goddess filled with bloodlust and a belligerent nature, was not only the goddess of war, but also goddess of divine retribution, pestilence, vengeance, and conquest. Both a warrior and solar goddess, Sekhmet was represented as a lioness and was often portrayed with a human body and the head of a lioness. In some temples, tame lions were even kept to honor her. Sometimes, as seen in Figure 1, she was shown in her cobra crown as well as with a sun disk. The sun disk represents her connection to Re, the sun god, as well as her being a solar deity. The rearing cobra or uraeus also appeared as a sign that the cobra and Sekhmet were collectively protecting the pharaoh. (The Metropolitan Museum). Because of this uraeus she adorned, Sekhmet was sometimes associated with Wadjet, the goddess of Lower Egypt. Most often though, she was associated with Bastet, another feline goddess, though one of protection rather than vengeance. Bastet was sometimes seen as Sekhmet s gentle counterpart. And although Sekhmet was a patron ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Review Of The Last Of The Mohicans Tayseer Abdelsalam 12/15/16 Early American Literature: Critique #3 The Book vs The Movie The main difference between, The Last of the Mohicans, book by James Fenimore Cooper and the last of the Mohicans movie, is that the book has a more adventurous theme and the moive has a more romantic and love them. I felt that both stories were extremely interesting. Due to the text s complexityz and the author s peculiar writing style, it took me quite a while to get into the story, thus reducing my reading speed considerably. But, once I was one third into the book, I started to really enjoy it and, as the narrative became more and more complex, I became aware of how much the book and the movie differ. I think that the most shocking difference between the book and the movie is the relationship between Hawk eye, the scout, and Duncan, the major. If in Mann s movie there s hatred between La Longue Carabine (aka Hawk eye) and Duncan Heyward, in Cooper s book their relationship is based on respect and both are willing to give their lives in order to save the others. • 38. Hrm 531 Week 2 Individual Assignment Discussion questions Once again, this week s reading is very timely and coincides with current work situations. This week, it has become more apparent that the culture of where I work conflicts with my personal values. Over two years ago, I moved to the Boston area for this job and at the time I realized that there were geographical and historical differences than from previous places I had lived. I also expected social and economic differences. Being the newcomer, to the work situation and environment, there was the need for me to learn about the governmental rules and processes for how decisions are made. In addition, after a few times of being corrected, I learned to call Massachusetts a Commonwealth, not a State. For a time, I embraced the cultural differences and contributed any unease to my unfamiliarity with the area. Then, I started to notice some current organizational values that contrast with my beliefs. For instance, the organization I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are detailed work conditions and job descriptions. Also, although I am the library Director (a non union position), I have low positional power. The Town Administrator negotiates the contract with the union members. Also, the union staff in the library do not receive performance reviews due to contractual restrictions. Therefore, out of necessity, I have focused on leader member relations. At first, I was frustrated at the lack of task structure and position power. Now, I see how the power of building relationships is stronger than both of those variables. For instance, because I have friendly relationships with staff, we work well together and tasks are completed because employees feel motivate and empowered. In any future situation I am in, I plan to focus heavily on leader members ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some athletes are willing to do anything that could potentially be life threatening in order to get their 15 seconds of fame. This something is known as anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids have come to improve many athletes physical activity, but also ruin an immense amount of lives forever. Although it may give someone the power to feel good, be stronger, and build up more muscle, the negative effects strongly outweigh the positives. All athletes dream big. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, it is not completely uncommon for athletes to test positive for steroids. Amazing, talented competitors like Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, and Lance Armstrong were all illegal users of steroids. They did as many things as they could to not get caught, but eventually they did. Imagine all of the die hard fans that found out that their favorite athlete cheated through sports. Kids look up to athletes as role models and aspire to be like them one day, but the let down of discovering that an athlete wasn t competing the way its body naturally could is devastating. Seeing all this success through the use of steroids could actually promote people to use it. This is an extremely bad idea because anabolic steroids ultimately lead to a path of physical and mental hopelessness. Anabolic steroids can be extremely harmful. If the body is already producing a proper amount of testosterone, there is no reason to be adding more. It is unhealthy for the body and results in abnormal effects. Acne, liver disorders, blood pressure increase, possible HIV, sexual diseases, atrophy, infertility, prostate enlargement, lower speaking voice, thinner hair, aggressive behavior, depression, and lower hormonal levels are just a few of the side effects as a result of taking steroids. The top 10 percent of Canadians have seen their net worth grow by 42% since 2005 to 2.1 million in 2012. However, the bottom 10 percent saw their net worth shrink by 150 percent (Flavelle, 2014). Health and Poverty Vulnerable populations including immigrants, Aboriginal peoples, single parent families and the elderly make up a growing percentage of the lower extreme of the socioeconomic scale (Turnbull, J. Podymow T, 2002). While we are quick to consider the costs of aiding the poor, we rarely consider the costs that poverty and income inequality inflict on our society. To achieve improved health, it is critical to improve income security through good jobs, income supports and fairer taxes (Barnes et al., 2013). There are two broad strategies that focus on alleviating the effects of poverty on health: 1) directly reducing poverty and socio economic inequality 2) intervening in pathways connecting poverty and health. These interventions have been identified as upstream and downstream. Downstream policies refer to those that have an explicit health purpose and tend to be targeted at those that are already suffering from increased health risk, while upstream refers to the wider influences on health inequalities such as income distribution, education and housing.
