Microbial Growth
How should we work to control microbial growth and prevent infection moving forward?
Infections have been around for a very long time. During the 19th century, pneumonia, tuberculosis,
diarrhea and diphtheria were the main causes of death in children and adults (1). Studies show that in
the hospitals alone there have been there have been 1.7 million infections since 2002, 33,269 were
newborns in high risk nurseries, 19,059 newborns in well nurseries, 417,946 among adults and
children in ICUs, and 1,266,851 children and adults outside of the hospital. There have been 98,987
estimated deaths, 35,967 were for pneumonia and the rest were from other infections (2). Antibiotics

The use of antibiotics has been used so much that it is also used in our agricultural systems, animals,
and the food that we eat. Antibiotics is used in agriculture today by putting it in animals to restore the
health of the animals or to make the animal grow fast. The antibiotics put in animals also make them
really large in size. Having antibiotic in our food is actual part of the reason why it s becoming
resistant and putting certain things in food can also contaminate the food. Food contamination can
lead to food poisoning which means the food has been contaminated by bacteria. Studies show that 5.5
million foodborne illnesses have been caused by viruses and 3.6 million were caused by bacteria (6).
There are thousands of deaths reported that were caused by people eating contaminated food. There
are ways to prevent food poisoning or food contamination so that we will not have to use antibiotics.
Eating organic food can is always good for the human body. Organic food protects human health, and
they are prohibited from using antibiotics or even hormones in animals. So there would be a violation
for plants that use antibiotics in their food. Plants would be prohibited to use any antibiotics or
hormones. People could also have the option to grow their own crops. Washing your hands and
keeping a clean and sterile environment is also a way. Cooking your food properly and keeping it at a
safe temperature is also effective. If you are

The Importance Of Permalinks
In simple words, a permalink is the web address of your website or its live pages. When you post new
content on your WordPress website, it automatically creates default URLs. In most of the cases,
default URLs are long and messy. Google is skeptical about messy URLs. That is why it ignores web
pages with long and complicated URLs when it has to display the most authentic results to visitors
against the entered keywords. On the other hand, most of the people consider messy permalinks as
SPAM and don t visit them because of the fear of being attacked by online hackers and
cybercriminals. So, it s clear that permalink structure plays an important role in SEO. Nicely
optimized URLs look decent to human eyes. Even search engine bots can ... Show more content on

Essay John Locke
In this essay I argue that the late philosopher Locke has the most compelling theory of metaphysics.
First, I explain Locke s point that all humans are born as Tabula Rasa, in order to gain basic
understanding of where Locke begins his theory. Second, I discuss how Locke argues how we obtain
knowledge, empiricism and representationalism, and knowledge about the work varies between strong
and weak inferences. Third, I will provide counter examples to Locke s ideas, and will explain why
these counter examples work for Locke s theories provided. Finally, I address some of the ways that
Locke might respond to my objections. The following paragraph will be used to define and understand
the concepts of the following key terms that Locke uses: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Locke furthers his own theory of this by stating that humans are not born with innate ideas (Matheis).
With what Locke states, we as humans can reason that we are born without any knowledge and
everything that we learn is put onto our blank slate. The Tabula Rasa is important because it also gives
us a basic understanding to Locke s later arguments and theories. Locke argues that if we all had an
innate idea we wouldn t need to use reason to discover them because they would already be present in
the human mind. Although, Locke s idea about blank slates is a very logical idea, there are a few flaws
within. Innate knowledge, which was produced as an idea from Plato states that we already learned
everything prior to being born, we are just simply experiencing and recollecting knowledge from our
soul that we had before our physical birth. Plato was not the only philosopher that supported the idea
of innate knowledge. Descartes also believed in innate knowledge over the Tabula Rasa, he believed
in the innate ideas of God. Kant also believed that we had a sense of time, space, causality and
comparison from innate knowledge (Al Rodhan). Locke then goes further into his theory by stating
that all knowledge begins with sensory experiences. Locke states that everything that is learned from
our experience with objects. Since we are born as a Tabula Rasa we know nothing, so knowledge is
the most valuable key. Locke

Aging- Living Organisms
Aging is a fundamental truth and an inevitable aspect of every living organism in the world. There are
more than four hundred theories on how and why we age. None of them stands out as a single winner
in explaining everything about aging but in fact, they are all interconnected and together they explain
the possible process of aging. This assignment attempts to explore the research based avenues which
could possibly help Mickey live significantly longer than Minnie, based on the assumption that
Mickey and Minnie inherit the same genetic programme but follow different life styles. Different
authors and researchers define aging differently. Aging has been defined by Balducci(2007) as a loss
of entropy and fractality. Loss of entropy implies a progressive reduction in an individual s functional
reserve, whereas loss of fractality implies a progressive reduction in the ability to coordinate different
activity and negotiate the environment . Yet another definition which would encapsulate the wider
meaning of the term aging is aging as a multifaceted phenomenon associated with decrements in
cellular and physiological functions, increases in the incidence of numerous degenerative diseases and
diminished capacity for responding to stress (Beckman and Ames, 1998). The theories on aging can
broadly be classified as programmed and damage based. While the former argues that the complex
process of aging is primarily pre programmed by genes and not due to any random or

Eli Gershkovitch Research Paper
Many people seek to find passion in their life, something they feel gives them drive or purpose. Many
only find one, if any at all. Eli Gershkovitch, however, has found three, all while making a booming

was lower tax rates for all citizens and by doing this he increased revenue and allowed citizens to
invest more into their country (staff, 2009). Tax cuts for the rich would enable them to spend and

Atonement And The Expiation
The word atonement means to set at one or to reconcile. In Christian theology atonement denotes the
doctrine of reconciliation of God and man accomplished by the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ
(Evangelical Dictionary of Theology). There are two necessary and complementary aspects of the
atonement. The expiation is the removal of sin and propitiation is the satisfaction of God s wrath over
sin by the incarnation, life, sufferings, and death of Jesus Christ. The anticipation of atonement can be
found in many places including Gen 2 3 after the fall of man, Gen 22 with Abraham sacrificing his
son, Ex 11 12 and the plague of the firstborn, Lev 16 regarding the Day of Atonement, Lev 17:11

Historic Journey into Outer Space
Since the historic journey into outer space by Yuri Gagarin, manned spaceflight and space exploration
have generated and motivated astounding inventions and innovations. These discoveries and
developments affect every single person on Earth, and have improved a wide range of fields including
health, food, technology, entertainment, automobile, dental, medical, safety, sports, and many more
industries.
The first of this myriad of technological advances is the artificial heart pump, called the MicroMed
DeBakey VAD heart pump. It is a ventricular assist device that serves as a temporary solution until a
heart transplant is available. It works by pumping blood throughout the body to keep patients alive
until a heart is available. David Saucier, a NASA engineer and rocket engine fuel pump expert,
collaborated with Dr. Michael DeBakey, a heart surgeon to scale down the pumping technology used
in the space shuttle s main engine pumps.
Another of these great technological advances is the LifeShear Pyrotechnic Cutter. The LifeShear
cutter or more informally jaws of life is currently used by firefighters as an emergency rescue tool to
free victims from car accident wreckage. NASA s pyrotechnical separation technology was
implemented in the LifeShear cutters making them 70% cheaper than other handheld cutters as well as
50% percent lighter.

Zoo Descriptive Essay
I take a whiff of the musty air, my little fingers tightening around my mother s hand as she gives me a
gentle squeeze for protection. Her stern but loving hazel eyes follow me as I bob along the stone
sidewalk, my jet black mary jane s clopping like a horse against the cemented stone tiles indicating a
pathway for the visitors of the zoo. I felt jitters run down my spine from excitement. My mother and I
immediately made our way to the crowded bat exhibit, younger children screeching from fear or
delight. As the door juters open, the faint smell of bat guano fills the air as a plague. I look up at my
mom with my beautiful brown eyes as she holds a smile, attempting not to grimace from the putrid
smell. I however, rush inside and straight to the figurine machine, begging my mom for the lion
figure. Of course my mother caves in, placing a silver quarter that would blind me if the light hit it.
My petite hand proceeded to harshly shove the quarter within the machine. We wait maybe two or
three minutes before the brilliantly colored wax figurine outputted itself. It was scalding hot to my
hands before I began to play with it. Well, that was until I quickly gave it to my mom, shoving it
inside of her purse that was colored with floral print, the fringe hanging like still windchimes.
My mother and I then head towards the wombat area. The waves of heat hit my face as I gently shake
my head as my hair starts to stick to my neck. I believe my mom has it much worse in the heat, as

The True Lesson Of 1984
1984 is a renowned dystopian novel that depicts an oppressive, dark English society where English
socialism is fervently adopted by the central government, also known as the Big Brother. However, the
fundamental notion of this political philosophy, which is to overcome the greed, waste,
competitiveness, and inequality as described in the article The True Lessons of 1984, are distorted and
trimmed down into three sacred principles: Newspeak, Doublethink and Mutability of the past. The
incidental appearance of totalitarian dictatorship that comes with such philosophy, on the other hand,
is almost inevitable, for socialism is an ideology that essentially is against the human nature as well as
repressing the instincts. In the article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the general public, on the other hand, there are also such treatments that are used to influence
people in the means of propaganda, espionage, and falsification. After letting Oceanian citizens deny
their own nature, the second step Big Brother takes, is to have them deny the existence of the truth.
Schlueter mentions, based upon Bacon, that Baconian science rests on the assumption that reality
conforms to the mind, not the mind to reality and remarks afterwards, This is not far from the claim
that the mind makes reality. To deny the reality, is to deny one s sanity and senses. How many in total
is two fingers plus two fingers? 3? 4? 5? As suggested by the Big Brother, it can be whatever number
one wants it to be as long as he thinks about it subjectively. People can create anything in their mind
with or without any factual information. As a result, doublethink and mutability of the past are
introduced. Since laws of nature are essentially unalterable, doublethink manages to instill a sense of
duality to it, making people believe its contradictory characters. In the book, for example, O brien
makes Winston, who have the scientific knowledge about gravity, to believe that he is actually floating
above the ground. Therefore, doublethink requires absolutely no factual information whatsoever.
Falsification of the past is the another mean that Big Brother uses to distort the truth in people s mind
by providing them with facts that have been

Problems Associated With The Traffic Of Passenger Car Unit...
Traffic in developing countries like India is highly heterogeneous in nature, which is characterized by
the presence of vehicles of different categories having varying physical and operational characteristics
over a wider range. Due to heterogeneity, it is difficult to define various traffic parameters. Hence in
such cases, traffic volume is expressed in terms of Passenger Car unit (PCU). In the present study,
various methods to determine PCU is studied also the variation in PCU values has been determined at
different geometric condition keeping the drivers charachterstic, vehicular characterstic and other
parameters constant with only variation was in geometrics of road. This was achieved by studing the
flow characterstic of same sample vehicle at different location. However at intersection, the values
may change as the parameters vary at intersection as compared to a mid block section hence the PCU
values at rotary intersection is found using the occupancy approach.

The American Justice System Is Corrupt
Do you believe that everyone should be free? Well the thing is that America is really taking that away
from people who have done something wrong even when it s for petty stuff like writing a bad check.
Some stuff is understandable like murder or other stuff, but some is outrageous. The American prison
population has been absolutely ridiculous; it s crazy for the U.S. To have such high prison rates. The
more you know about it the more frustrating it gets, and if you ask almost anyone you would think so
too. The only people who might agree are big business s owners like American Express and Bank of
American. The American justice system is corrupt.
In the 80 s, the rising number of people locked up as a result of the War on Drugs and the wave of
privatization that occurred under the Reagan Administration saw the rise of the for profit industry.
Prior to the 80 s, private prisons did not exist is the US. In a 2011 report by the ACLU, it is claimed
that the rise of profit prison industry is a major contributor to mass incarceration, along with the
stuffed state budgets. Louisiana, for example, has the highest rate of incarceration I in the world with
the majority of its prisoners being privatized prisons, profit facilities. Such institutions could face
economic failure without a steady influx of prisoners. A 2013 Bloomberg report states that in the past
decade the number of inmates in for profit prisons through the U.S. Rose 44 percent. Corporations

The Proposed Framework, Information Security Human Factor...
The proposed framework, Information Security Human factor framework has two dimensions;
organization employee dimensions. Each dimension has two domains, under the organization
dimension there is environment and management domains. Environment domain relates to cultural
and regulation issues while the management domain is concerned with mainly security policies and
practice of information security. The next dimension is the employee dimension. Preparedness and
responsibility domains are included in this dimension. Preparedness is concerned with security,
education, training and awareness while the responsibility domain is concerned with mainly employee
practice and performance. Figure 2
The proposed framework considers the SCT and previous other research of human factors in
information security. From the proposed Information Security human factor framework, domains of
the proposed framework relate to the SCT factors in a couple of ways. Firstly, the SCT environmental
factors relate to environment and management domains (Organization dimension) of the proposed
framework. Secondly, SCT s cognitive and behavioral factors are in relation with the employee
dimension of the proposed framework.
The proposed framework is further enhanced by mapping factors considered in previous studies thus
identifying subdomains of the four main domains (environment, responsibility, management,
preparedness). The below table lists the domain, human factors and previous studies that

I wasn t allowed to do this, but I couldn t resist. It was a broken down old house in the street behind
ours. It is a house with the yellow paint peeling off to show the hundred year old red wood that was

was someone living in there. It was practically yelling at me, JAMES, COME IN HERE! I AWAIT
YOUR PRESENCE! My mom had once said, No one knows what happened to the house and the

What is your cause that you want me to serve in? My voice was getting stronger as I spoke, How did

you strong enough to go through the maze of horror? Or will you fail like the heads you can see on the
wall? The spirit ignored my questions! How dare it do that!
I gulped down the fear that I had due to the cleverness of the spirit. I had to do this for the community.
No one could come to this house because whoever lived here said that this house would get haunted,
and the lights would stop working. I said with full confidence, Ok, I ll go through this maze of horror.
If I get through it, then you have to get out of this world and get back to the realm of spirits. If I fail,
then you can do whatever you want.
The spirit agreed to this plan but there was one more condition, If you get through the maze of horror
and serve me until I get what I want, then I will let you go and I will go away from here so that you
will never see me again.
Ok. I agree to your terms.
Then let the horror be unleashed!

and opened my eyes, the setting had changed. What I saw made me want to crawl into my cozy,

Galileo Reflection Essay
I sat on the left side of the theater down at the bottom while I was intrigued by the play Galileo. The
play Galileo was about how Galileo attempted to pass on his heliocentric plans to the Catholic Church.
Shockingly, things would not end to support him. In the start of the play, it depicts Galileo as a normal
man with a youthful understudy. Galileo would, in the end, locate an amazing discovery, and construct
a telescope, the first of its kind. Or, then again, so they thought. All through the play, Galileo would
need to defeat many obstacles keeping in mind the end goal to demonstrate his discoveries revise.
Through the course of the play, I saw various things that emerged. The Catholic Church endeavored to
inspire Galileo to reprove his thoughts. This is vital because this demonstrated how essential it was for
the Catholic Church to keep up its picture. Had Galileo Proved them off base about this, maybe they
would begin to ponder what else the Catholic Church wasn t right about. The most critical thing to me
was, telescopes had just been invented. History and many individuals acknowledge Galileo for the
creation of the telescope. In fact, the telescope had just been concocted in Holland by Hans
Lippershey One of the major themes in Galileo is work vs passion. Galileo is a virtuoso who needs
just to keep his eyes immovably prepared on the night sky, searching for answers to large scale

The Graphic Memoir Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
It did not take me very long to get through the graphic memoir, Persepolis not only because it is a sort
of comic book, but because I could not put it down. I chose to read the interview between Robert Root
and Marjane Satrapi instead of the TED talk because I love the raw dialogue between the two.
Through this interview, Satrapi s strong independence and blunt words ring through loud and clear just
as her character in Persepolis. I find her honesty very refreshing, I have always said, even verbally,
orally, that I was nasty. I am very much a fan of imperfection, actually. This idea of perfection I think
really, it s the beginning of the fascism, this idea of perfection . The woman being interview is very
much the young girl that hit her principal then said, oopsy, I didn t mean it!
I can honestly say, that this graphic memoir opened my eyes to the female perspective in Iran during
the time of the Shah to the revolution and beyond. Before reading Persepolis, I had a single worldview
of the Middle East. I thought that women would be treated the same way in most countries as unequal
to a man as it can get. I pictured women unable to have respectable jobs and never being able to show
much more skin than their hands and face. When Satrapi says, The basic culture is not that the woman
is nothing Iran is not Saudi Arabia the women, they are educated, they are cultivated, they work. You
have women that are judges, they are doctors, they are journalists, they work.

support for his conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes.

is that they clearly know things they never learned . Treffert s belief the knowledge these savants have
obtained has always been with them is clearly evidenced as he uses terms like factory installed ,
genetic memory , racial memory and ancestral memory when attempting to explain the phenomena he
has witnessed first hand. During the course of the article Treffert goes on to cite additional studies and
books written by himself as well as his peers verifying the fact that there is no way possible for the
individuals to have learned or acquired their respective talents through normal conventions. Savants
remind us there is so much about the brain and knowledge that we still have yet to learn and this
scares me. Within the article Treffert writes about acquired savants and accidental genius and further
explains at times of severe head trauma or grave illness the reaming functioning parts of the can in
fact release the latent capacity therein thus creating a new savant. Given the lack of value today s
society seems to place on human life combined with the quest for knowledge, the thought of Dr.
Frankenstein smashing poor subjects frontal lobes in an attempt to create a savant does not seem all
that farfetched at all and that should scare us all. Regardless, the savant clearly does not meet the
guidelines of obtaining knowledge as set forth in Gee s

Essay On Yellowstone Supervolcano
The Yellowstone is known as one of six largest supervolcanoes in the world. Though this
supervolcano has not erupted recently it does have continue to have volcanic activities. The previous
eruption remains have been found outside of the Yellowstone National Park that link to the
Yellowstone Caldera. Ben Ellis and Mark Darren, authors of the article Super eruptions and silicic
volcanism from the Yellowstone volcanic field, describes current volcanic activities of this area and
how it has expanded and transition from its previous super eruptions to what has happen now, and
what changes could another volcanic reaction cause for this area. Ellis and Darren wrote that the . . .
evidence of volcanic activity is all around (135). In this they were talking about Yellowstone. ... Show

The visitors have noticed this as well on the surface of the park. This area along with the surround area
about half of the earth has plenty of basalts and rhyolites with rock and it can be found in the
surrounding region. This shows history of a past super volcanic eruption that has changed the world
and its atmosphere to what it is today. This magma once has too much pressure built up will erupt
which will be known as a super eruption. As authors Ellis and Mark wrote that [super eruptions] are
considered to be the greatest geological hazard to mankind . . . (135). So if Yellowstone Caldera
suddenly erupts Wyoming along with the surround states such as Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado,
Nebraska, and North and South Dakota that will be effected and all of the environment and humanity
in that area. Yellowstone Caldera eruption cannot be stopped if it ever happens, but hopefully
precautions can be taken to prevent this disaster being an uncontrollable natural

Analyzing Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
Ashton Logan

English 224
Hallie Beard
Ragtime Writer
Jazz music is associated with long, lazy melodies and ornate rhythmical patterns, the Blues, also
follows this form. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, uses non traditional rhyme and meter in
order to reach the average individual, going against the conventional form that previous writers had
set in stone. A ragtime melody narrates the story of someone s demise and the resolution of their
situation just as Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, mimics the blues as it narrates a story about the
piano man. The The Weary Blues is dark which directly mimics the somewhat depressed plot of the
poem. Sound plays an essential role in Hughes poem as they reiterate the dull mood by ,

External Forces That Effect Marks and Spencer
External Forces Marks and Spencer has many external forces that affect the company. These are
known as macro environmental factors. There are six of these forces, Political, Economic,
Sociological, Technological, Legal and Environmental factors. These external factors affect the types
of products/services Marks and Spencer offers, the nature of its market positioning and strategies,
there relationship with their customers and their suppliers. These external factors allow Marks and
Spencer to develop: * A clear vision and an expressed statement of goals * Detailed objectives and
effective strategies for achieving these goals * Effective and efficient policies and procedures to

Sociological Factor There are many social factors that affect Marks and Spencer such as level of
education, lifestyle, mobility of population and income distribution. To keep up with the social affect
Marks and Spencer has now a shop online selling its food, clothing and any other product they would
have in stores. This is part of their plan to become a multi channel retailer. It is obvious to us all that
the real factor is to keep up with its competitive market such as Dunnes Stores. Marks and Spencer
appeal to different markets in terms of social class and other demographics. Also to keep up with the
social change Marks and Spencer bought their clothes range up to date to keep up with latest trends
and to keep their customers interested. Consumer purchases are influenced by many factors like
cultural, social, and personal. Marks and Spencer cannot control these factors but they must take them
into account, which they have done as they are a well positioned and a competitive player in their
market. Technological Factor Technology is very important in the retail market. In order to grow your
business, make their business more secure and complete with the competitors, Marks and Spencer has
to move along with the new technology. To do this they must manage their brands carefully. Major
brand marketers often spend huge amounts on

The Hundred Days Offensive In World War One
World War One began in 1917 when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated.
During the war, there were the Allies and Central powers along with the many battles included. The
Allied countries such as Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, United States and Canada were opposing
the Central Powers which were Germany, Austria Hungary,
Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The Hundred Days Offensive was a series of battles that led to the
ending of the first world war. It led to a serious advantage to victory in World War One.
Among the hundred days were many victories for the allied powers.
Generalissimo Ferdinand Foch took advantage of the disorganization of the German army and ordered
a counter offensive. Following the counteroffensive was the Second
Battle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After this, Foch started plotting some amazing plans for attacks in order to defeat Germany. On
September 26th, the American Army attacked in the MeuseArgonne following by the British First and
Third armies the next day that attacked eastwards towards Cambrai. Following that was an attack in
Flanders and the grand finale, the attack on the Hindenburg Line. These attacks were known as the
four stage concentric offensive plan. These attacks brought Germans to their breaking point and forced
their own General Erich Von Ludendorff to seek for peace. A note was sent to the United States
president Woodrow Wilson which included the acceptance his
Fourteen Points for negotiations. Although it took many notes and discussions,
Germany finally signed an Armistice on November 11th, 1918.
Many battles were fought across the globe. Although The Hundred Days
Offensive wasn t a battle itself, it led many vicious battles which resulted to victory for the Allied
powers and brought an end to World War One. This was the happy ever after for the Allied powers.
With great leaders and ambitious ideas for attacks,

How Does Diffusion And Osmosis Affect The Rate Of Diffusion
Abstract
Cells and molecules in the environment are constantly moving and changing, for cells to function
properly there is a need for equilibrium to be met. The size of the cell and the solution outside of the
cell affects the rate of diffusion and osmosis in the cell. Cells are constantly trying to reach an
equilibrium with the molecules and substances around it, which is why there are such terms as:
hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic. The procedures allowed testing of whether or not surface area or
volume increased diffusion and how different substance control diffusion. Cells are constantly moving
to reach equilibrium through diffusion and osmosis.

The size of a cell and the solution that surrounds it affects the ability

Adam and Eve
The term subordination is used frequently in the context of Trinitarian discussion, and has a clearly
defined usage. Theologians of the past have spoken in some sense of the subordination of the Son and
the Spirit within the boundaries of orthodoxy. However, how do we define it when it comes to women
and the church? The story of Adam and Eve is a great place to start. It brings with it all of the elements
of love, respect, partnership, and subordination all rolled together. When I first started to research this
paper I was under the misguided assumption that Adam and Eve went down together. As my paper
evolved you will see I learned a little bit differently. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminists argue that women have had to struggle to overcome the patriarchally structured churches.
While scholars in ecclesiastical history and related fields have undoubtedly been influenced by the
huge developments in both women s history and gender history in the larger arena of historical
scholarship, they have also been influenced by the questions raised by feminist theologians about the
viability of women remaining within the Churches and the outworking of Christian doctrine in the
women s lives.
Origins have therefore become important to some feminist scholars, especially those of faith, in a
rather distinctive way, as they have sought to bring to light and , in some cases, discover evidence for
the ways in which the Christian tradition has in at least some of its roots an equal place for women
(Shaw, 2004). The place of women and, indeed, men in the early Churches is a historical subject
which is seen to have relevance to individuals and the Churches today: while Churches are still
debating the validity of the ordination of women, and even the extent to which laywomen can
participate in the worship and ministry of the Church, it is not possible to shy away from this.
One of the great strengths of feminist scholarship has been to show that no scholar works from a
neutral starting point: the selection of topic and the evidence on which historians choose to focus are
shaped by their presuppositions. Ecclesiastical historians, influenced by their

Causes Of Rising Student Debt
For many in the middle class student debt has a strong and relentless grasp on their economic future.
In their article Why Free Higher Ed Can t Wait Jeje Biola and Belinda Rodriguez state that, Student
debt has reached a record total of over $1.3 trillion (6). This has left many people wondering where
this is coming from and wanting change. This number is just too high in the minds of the average
American. In the last few years free college tuition has been a hot topic in American politics, as
recently as the 2016 presidential race. Candidates such as Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton proved
to be a huge push for free tuition. The raising college tuition rates effect all Americans in some form
or fashion, so support is quickly rising especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These have been hot topics for sometime now but little seems to have happened so far in regards to
legislation and actual action. In the eyes of many free college is nothing more than a dream at the
moment and who could blame them, for alas the government is taking their time, in no hurry to swiftly
respond to the pleas of citizens. However there was a plan in the works that Catherine Morris
describes in her article Pay It Forward . She states, Obama proposed funding Americas College
Promise to the tune of $60 billion and paying for it with a series of taxes including one controversial
and short lived proposal to tax 529 college savings plans (13). This shows that the government has
some willingness to approach the issue, but most likely they have found that it is going to be more
difficult than imagined to apply reform in this area. Another plan that is currently in use and has a
controversial funding method is the Tennessee Promise which supports college students who are going
to attend community colleges for shorter lengths such as two years. The gray areas start to come in
with the funding. Scholarships for four year students are cut to help students who will be in college for
less time and who will subsequently acquire more debt. Despite these criticisms they are a step in the
right direction even if they lay on some unsteady framework.

The critical incident technique is a reliable tool to gather data, which increases the internal validity of
the study and making the results more transferable (Andersson and Nilsson, 2006). The benefits of
using a semi structured interview is that it allows the researcher to gain focused information from the
participant, it also allows the provision of reliable comparable qualitative data as the participants are
asked the same questions (Resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk, 2017). In this study it was useful as it allowed
the researchers to assess the causes of inter venous medication administration errors, allowing the
study to achieve its aim, again increasing its measurement validity (Socialresearchmethods.net, 2017).
The disadvantages of this study design are that it doesn t provide a detailed understanding of a topic
(Resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk, 2017). In comparison, both studies have high measurement validity and
each study design utilised has its own strengths and weaknesses as discussed. The 2011 study s sample
consisted of 107 nurses in two different hospitals in Australia. This is a small sample size decreasing
its internal validity (Kukull and Ganguli, 2012), in addition 107 nurses in two hospitals limits the
participants to those location decreasing the generalizability of the results as 107 nurses in two
hospitals is not an

The Ant And The Dung Beetle Essay
People are more or less the same apart from our social, political, and cultural environments. Culture is
part of what we fundamentally are; therefore if that differs between humans then aren t we all different
because of our cultures and backgrounds? Culture is the core element that branches off to create all the
little differences that make each of us a unique individual. We are very different from each other to the
point where even the language used to communicate to one another varies from one group of people to
another based on cultures and ethnicity. This can be seen very clearly through our actions, and more
specifically, through the stories told to children growing up; fables. The fables La Cigale et la Fourmi,
a French take on The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third tale Zeus and the Ant, a Greek fable, is but one example of this. The story goes that a man
was greedy and stole from his neighbors crops. Angered by this, Zeus turned him into the first ant.
Nevertheless to this day, the ant still takes from others, storing the food for his own use. The very first
link from the fable to the Greek culture is the use of the King of the Greek Gods. The story shows that
the almighty Zeus is the most powerful and will punish when punishment is needed. This puts the
belief of the Greek Gods into the minds of children from an early age through story telling. Moreover,
the ant, which is usually perceived as good and hard working, is made the antagonist of the tale. This
is because the ant is seen as a greedy pest instead of the wise insect that that other cultures view it as.
Greek culture sees the intelligence in the ant when it gathers its food, however notices the theft
occurring in the process. As a result, this proves Greece s intolerance for thievery and stealing. The
final element of this story that links to the Greek culture is the language. Told in Greek, the story is
able to reach the children of Greece, and they are able to grasp the important lessons and values
hidden in the

The Pros And Cons Of American Prisons
What is prison? To the public, prison is a place for only the most truly evil people in the country.
However, contrary to popular belief, some prisons in the U.S. are not as nearly as bad as some of the
others. In other words, not all prisons are created equally. The conditions of some American prisons
are horrendous. Two grown averaged sized men are being crammed into a six by eight foot concrete
cage ( Minncor Industries ). Keep in mind, that dimension includes the bed frames, toilet, sink, and
sometimes a desk as well. When the prisoner has to use the bathroom, he is exposed in front of his
cellmate and anyone who is in the hallway. Many would describe these conditions as unacceptable and
cruel, when others would call them necessary. While these conditions certainly are not the most

Prisons are not built to be comfortable they are meant to be safe. They house criminals, people who
deserve to be there for one reason or another. Funding is also an issue for prisons, so they have to
make do with what they are given. Admittedly it is rather uncomfortable to use the bathroom while
someone is watching, there are more restrooms in the detention center. They at least try to make the
inmates comfortable. Think about it, they get ok mattresses, sheets, pillows, and blankets, even warm
clothing. They didn t have to give them that, especially when some really do not deserve the slightest
shred of kindness. The conditions in these prisons are good enough to sustain human life and keep the
inmates detained, like they were designed to do. Some americans believe that prison conditions are
unacceptable and inappropriate, while others would think

Solution Focused Family Therapy Essay
Solution focused family therapy strategy is to articulate goals directly to discover what works in a
family. The counselor by taping on resources within the family such as their strength, how the family
thinks about the problem and to introduce another way of thinking about the problem, which is
searched and questioned. The solution focused family therapist is an important figure in identifying
exceptions to problems and assisting the family as they, too, tap into existing resources. For example,
asking the teenager about grades, homework habit, house chores, relationship with mother, with
family members, and with teachers prior to the encountered problems? The counselor or therapist has
several theoretical approaches that can be used and applied in the treatment process as well. In the
words of Yarhouse, he indicates, The philosophical assumptions underlying solution focused family
therapy can be difficult to identify, since it is, uniquely atheoretical. According to de Shazer, There is
no explicitly identified model of normal family development. Indeed, proponents of solution focused
family therapy emphasize making no assumptions about what is normal for a family, nor does it
concern itself with a model of abnormal family functioning:
The theory has nothing whatsoever to say about problems, complaints, ... Show more content on

discussion of theories of psychotherapy in which, O Hanlon and Weiner Davis (1989) help the reader

have quite different viewpoints, in fact, diametrically opposed views about crucial elements and
techniques involved in successful therapy. The main key in Solution focused family therapy is the
process for changes and the believe that problems exist primarily because of how families construe

  • 3. The Importance Of Permalinks In simple words, a permalink is the web address of your website or its live pages. When you post new content on your WordPress website, it automatically creates default URLs. In most of the cases, default URLs are long and messy. Google is skeptical about messy URLs. That is why it ignores web pages with long and complicated URLs when it has to display the most authentic results to visitors against the entered keywords. On the other hand, most of the people consider messy permalinks as SPAM and don t visit them because of the fear of being attacked by online hackers and cybercriminals. • 4. Essay John Locke In this essay I argue that the late philosopher Locke has the most compelling theory of metaphysics. First, I explain Locke s point that all humans are born as Tabula Rasa, in order to gain basic understanding of where Locke begins his theory. Second, I discuss how Locke argues how we obtain knowledge, empiricism and representationalism, and knowledge about the work varies between strong and weak inferences. Third, I will provide counter examples to Locke s ideas, and will explain why these counter examples work for Locke s theories provided. Finally, I address some of the ways that Locke might respond to my objections. The following paragraph will be used to define and understand the concepts of the following key terms that Locke uses: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Locke furthers his own theory of this by stating that humans are not born with innate ideas (Matheis). With what Locke states, we as humans can reason that we are born without any knowledge and everything that we learn is put onto our blank slate. The Tabula Rasa is important because it also gives us a basic understanding to Locke s later arguments and theories. Locke argues that if we all had an innate idea we wouldn t need to use reason to discover them because they would already be present in the human mind. Although, Locke s idea about blank slates is a very logical idea, there are a few flaws within. Innate knowledge, which was produced as an idea from Plato states that we already learned everything prior to being born, we are just simply experiencing and recollecting knowledge from our soul that we had before our physical birth. Plato was not the only philosopher that supported the idea of innate knowledge. Descartes also believed in innate knowledge over the Tabula Rasa, he believed in the innate ideas of God. Kant also believed that we had a sense of time, space, causality and comparison from innate knowledge (Al Rodhan). Locke then goes further into his theory by stating that all knowledge begins with sensory experiences. Locke states that everything that is learned from our experience with objects. Since we are born as a Tabula Rasa we know nothing, so knowledge is the most valuable key. Locke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Aging- Living Organisms Aging is a fundamental truth and an inevitable aspect of every living organism in the world. There are more than four hundred theories on how and why we age. None of them stands out as a single winner in explaining everything about aging but in fact, they are all interconnected and together they explain the possible process of aging. This assignment attempts to explore the research based avenues which could possibly help Mickey live significantly longer than Minnie, based on the assumption that Mickey and Minnie inherit the same genetic programme but follow different life styles. Different authors and researchers define aging differently. Aging has been defined by Balducci(2007) as a loss of entropy and fractality. Loss of entropy implies a progressive reduction in an individual s functional reserve, whereas loss of fractality implies a progressive reduction in the ability to coordinate different activity and negotiate the environment . Yet another definition which would encapsulate the wider meaning of the term aging is aging as a multifaceted phenomenon associated with decrements in cellular and physiological functions, increases in the incidence of numerous degenerative diseases and diminished capacity for responding to stress (Beckman and Ames, 1998). The theories on aging can broadly be classified as programmed and damage based. While the former argues that the complex process of aging is primarily pre programmed by genes and not due to any random or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Historic Journey into Outer Space Since the historic journey into outer space by Yuri Gagarin, manned spaceflight and space exploration have generated and motivated astounding inventions and innovations. These discoveries and developments affect every single person on Earth, and have improved a wide range of fields including health, food, technology, entertainment, automobile, dental, medical, safety, sports, and many more industries. The first of this myriad of technological advances is the artificial heart pump, called the MicroMed DeBakey VAD heart pump. It is a ventricular assist device that serves as a temporary solution until a heart transplant is available. It works by pumping blood throughout the body to keep patients alive until a heart is available. David Saucier, a NASA engineer and rocket engine fuel pump expert, collaborated with Dr. Michael DeBakey, a heart surgeon to scale down the pumping technology used in the space shuttle s main engine pumps. Another of these great technological advances is the LifeShear Pyrotechnic Cutter. Her stern but loving hazel eyes follow me as I bob along the stone sidewalk, my jet black mary jane s clopping like a horse against the cemented stone tiles indicating a pathway for the visitors of the zoo. I felt jitters run down my spine from excitement. My mother and I immediately made our way to the crowded bat exhibit, younger children screeching from fear or delight. As the door juters open, the faint smell of bat guano fills the air as a plague. I look up at my mom with my beautiful brown eyes as she holds a smile, attempting not to grimace from the putrid smell. I however, rush inside and straight to the figurine machine, begging my mom for the lion figure. Of course my mother caves in, placing a silver quarter that would blind me if the light hit it. My petite hand proceeded to harshly shove the quarter within the machine. We wait maybe two or three minutes before the brilliantly colored wax figurine outputted itself. It was scalding hot to my hands before I began to play with it. Well, that was until I quickly gave it to my mom, shoving it inside of her purse that was colored with floral print, the fringe hanging like still windchimes. My mother and I then head towards the wombat area. The waves of heat hit my face as I gently shake my head as my hair starts to stick to my neck. • 11. The True Lesson Of 1984 1984 is a renowned dystopian novel that depicts an oppressive, dark English society where English socialism is fervently adopted by the central government, also known as the Big Brother. However, the fundamental notion of this political philosophy, which is to overcome the greed, waste, competitiveness, and inequality as described in the article The True Lessons of 1984, are distorted and trimmed down into three sacred principles: Newspeak, Doublethink and Mutability of the past. The incidental appearance of totalitarian dictatorship that comes with such philosophy, on the other hand, is almost inevitable, for socialism is an ideology that essentially is against the human nature as well as repressing the instincts. For the general public, on the other hand, there are also such treatments that are used to influence people in the means of propaganda, espionage, and falsification. After letting Oceanian citizens deny their own nature, the second step Big Brother takes, is to have them deny the existence of the truth. Schlueter mentions, based upon Bacon, that Baconian science rests on the assumption that reality conforms to the mind, not the mind to reality and remarks afterwards, This is not far from the claim that the mind makes reality. To deny the reality, is to deny one s sanity and senses. How many in total is two fingers plus two fingers? 3? 4? 5? As suggested by the Big Brother, it can be whatever number one wants it to be as long as he thinks about it subjectively. People can create anything in their mind with or without any factual information. As a result, doublethink and mutability of the past are introduced. Since laws of nature are essentially unalterable, doublethink manages to instill a sense of duality to it, making people believe its contradictory characters. In the book, for example, O brien makes Winston, who have the scientific knowledge about gravity, to believe that he is actually floating above the ground. Therefore, doublethink requires absolutely no factual information whatsoever. Falsification of the past is the another mean that Big Brother uses to distort the truth in people s mind by providing them with facts that have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Problems Associated With The Traffic Of Passenger Car Unit... Traffic in developing countries like India is highly heterogeneous in nature, which is characterized by the presence of vehicles of different categories having varying physical and operational characteristics over a wider range. Due to heterogeneity, it is difficult to define various traffic parameters. Hence in such cases, traffic volume is expressed in terms of Passenger Car unit (PCU). In the present study, various methods to determine PCU is studied also the variation in PCU values has been determined at different geometric condition keeping the drivers charachterstic, vehicular characterstic and other parameters constant with only variation was in geometrics of road. This was achieved by studing the flow characterstic of same sample vehicle at different location. However at intersection, the values may change as the parameters vary at intersection as compared to a mid block section hence the PCU values at rotary intersection is found using the occupancy approach. Well the thing is that America is really taking that away from people who have done something wrong even when it s for petty stuff like writing a bad check. Some stuff is understandable like murder or other stuff, but some is outrageous. The American prison population has been absolutely ridiculous; it s crazy for the U.S. To have such high prison rates. The more you know about it the more frustrating it gets, and if you ask almost anyone you would think so too. The only people who might agree are big business s owners like American Express and Bank of American. The American justice system is corrupt. I gulped down the fear that I had due to the cleverness of the spirit. I had to do this for the community. Galileo Reflection Essay I sat on the left side of the theater down at the bottom while I was intrigued by the play Galileo. The play Galileo was about how Galileo attempted to pass on his heliocentric plans to the Catholic Church. Shockingly, things would not end to support him. In the start of the play, it depicts Galileo as a normal man with a youthful understudy. Galileo would, in the end, locate an amazing discovery, and construct a telescope, the first of its kind. Or, then again, so they thought. All through the play, Galileo would need to defeat many obstacles keeping in mind the end goal to demonstrate his discoveries revise. Through the course of the play, I saw various things that emerged. The Catholic Church endeavored to inspire Galileo to reprove his thoughts. This is vital because this demonstrated how essential it was for the Catholic Church to keep up its picture. Had Galileo Proved them off base about this, maybe they would begin to ponder what else the Catholic Church wasn t right about. The most critical thing to me was, telescopes had just been invented. History and many individuals acknowledge Galileo for the creation of the telescope. In fact, the telescope had just been concocted in Holland by Hans Lippershey One of the major themes in Galileo is work vs passion. • 21. The Graphic Memoir Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi It did not take me very long to get through the graphic memoir, Persepolis not only because it is a sort of comic book, but because I could not put it down. I chose to read the interview between Robert Root and Marjane Satrapi instead of the TED talk because I love the raw dialogue between the two. Through this interview, Satrapi s strong independence and blunt words ring through loud and clear just as her character in Persepolis. I find her honesty very refreshing, I have always said, even verbally, orally, that I was nasty. I am very much a fan of imperfection, actually. This idea of perfection I think really, it s the beginning of the fascism, this idea of perfection . The woman being interview is very much the young girl that hit her principal then said, oopsy, I didn t mean it! I can honestly say, that this graphic memoir opened my eyes to the female perspective in Iran during the time of the Shah to the revolution and beyond. Before reading Persepolis, I had a single worldview of the Middle East. I thought that women would be treated the same way in most countries as unequal to a man as it can get. I pictured women unable to have respectable jobs and never being able to show much more skin than their hands and face. When Satrapi says, The basic culture is not that the woman is nothing Iran is not Saudi Arabia the women, they are educated, they are cultivated, they work. You have women that are judges, they are doctors, they are journalists, they work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gee s Essay I Have This Nagging Feeling We Missed Something I Have This Nagging Feeling We Missed Something In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay What is Literacy written by Linguist James Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned linguistic skills to provide a useful definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however, Gee must educate the reader on various definitions, ideas and numerous theories in an effort to provide support for his conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes. Initially this is all fine and well, as Gee does an admirable job of laying out these foundations, up and until he begins to explain how an individual obtains knowledge. It is here Gee s ... Treffert writes One of the most striking and consistent things in the many savants I have seen is that they clearly know things they never learned . Treffert s belief the knowledge these savants have obtained has always been with them is clearly evidenced as he uses terms like factory installed , genetic memory , racial memory and ancestral memory when attempting to explain the phenomena he has witnessed first hand. During the course of the article Treffert goes on to cite additional studies and books written by himself as well as his peers verifying the fact that there is no way possible for the individuals to have learned or acquired their respective talents through normal conventions. Savants remind us there is so much about the brain and knowledge that we still have yet to learn and this scares me. Within the article Treffert writes about acquired savants and accidental genius and further explains at times of severe head trauma or grave illness the reaming functioning parts of the can in fact release the latent capacity therein thus creating a new savant. Given the lack of value today s society seems to place on human life combined with the quest for knowledge, the thought of Dr. Frankenstein smashing poor subjects frontal lobes in an attempt to create a savant does not seem all that farfetched at all and that should scare us all. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, uses non traditional rhyme and meter in order to reach the average individual, going against the conventional form that previous writers had set in stone. A ragtime melody narrates the story of someone s demise and the resolution of their situation just as Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, mimics the blues as it narrates a story about the piano man. Adam and Eve Essay 3 Adam and Eve Marcie Smith REL 250 Paxton Reed November 16, 2008 Adam and Eve The term subordination is used frequently in the context of Trinitarian discussion, and has a clearly defined usage. Theologians of the past have spoken in some sense of the subordination of the Son and the Spirit within the boundaries of orthodoxy. However, how do we define it when it comes to women and the church? The story of Adam and Eve is a great place to start. It brings with it all of the elements of love, respect, partnership, and subordination all rolled together. When I first started to research this paper I was under the misguided assumption that Adam and Eve went down together. As my paper evolved you will see I learned a little bit differently. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminists argue that women have had to struggle to overcome the patriarchally structured churches. While scholars in ecclesiastical history and related fields have undoubtedly been influenced by the huge developments in both women s history and gender history in the larger arena of historical scholarship, they have also been influenced by the questions raised by feminist theologians about the viability of women remaining within the Churches and the outworking of Christian doctrine in the women s lives. Origins have therefore become important to some feminist scholars, especially those of faith, in a rather distinctive way, as they have sought to bring to light and , in some cases, discover evidence for the ways in which the Christian tradition has in at least some of its roots an equal place for women (Shaw, 2004). The place of women and, indeed, men in the early Churches is a historical subject which is seen to have relevance to individuals and the Churches today: while Churches are still debating the validity of the ordination of women, and even the extent to which laywomen can participate in the worship and ministry of the Church, it is not possible to shy away from this. One of the great strengths of feminist scholarship has been to show that no scholar works from a neutral starting point: the selection of topic and the evidence on which historians choose to focus are shaped by their presuppositions. In the eyes of many free college is nothing more than a dream at the moment and who could blame them, for alas the government is taking their time, in no hurry to swiftly respond to the pleas of citizens. However there was a plan in the works that Catherine Morris describes in her article Pay It Forward . She states, Obama proposed funding Americas College Promise to the tune of $60 billion and paying for it with a series of taxes including one controversial and short lived proposal to tax 529 college savings plans (13). This shows that the government has some willingness to approach the issue, but most likely they have found that it is going to be more difficult than imagined to apply reform in this area. Another plan that is currently in use and has a controversial funding method is the Tennessee Promise which supports college students who are going to attend community colleges for shorter lengths such as two years. The gray areas start to come in with the funding. Scholarships for four year students are cut to help students who will be in college for less time and who will subsequently acquire more debt. Angered by this, Zeus turned him into the first ant. Nevertheless to this day, the ant still takes from others, storing the food for his own use. The very first link from the fable to the Greek culture is the use of the King of the Greek Gods. The story shows that the almighty Zeus is the most powerful and will punish when punishment is needed. This puts the belief of the Greek Gods into the minds of children from an early age through story telling. Moreover, the ant, which is usually perceived as good and hard working, is made the antagonist of the tale. This is because the ant is seen as a greedy pest instead of the wise insect that that other cultures view it as. Greek culture sees the intelligence in the ant when it gathers its food, however notices the theft occurring in the process. As a result, this proves Greece s intolerance for thievery and stealing.
