This document describes the design and simulation of a hybrid full adder circuit for high-speed VLSI applications. Full adders are important components used in arithmetic logic units, floating point units, and address generation. The author first reviews existing full adder designs based on static CMOS, transmission gate, and dynamic logic styles. Then, a previously proposed hybrid CMOS full adder using both transmission gates and CMOS is described. To improve speed, the author proposes a modified full adder design using only 14 transistors instead of 16. Both the existing and proposed designs are simulated in Cadence Virtuoso at 180nm and 90nm technology nodes. Simulation results show the proposed design has lower power consumption and propagation delay compared to the

PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT CMOS LOGIC STYLES FOR LOW POWER AND HIGH SPEED VLSICS Design
Designing high-speed low-power circuits with CMOS technology has been a major research problem for many years. Several logic families have been proposed and used to improve circuit performance beyond that of conventional static CMOS family. Fast circuit families are becoming attractive in deep submicron technologies since the performance benefits obtained from process scaling are decreasing as feature size decreases. This paper presents CMOS differential circuit families such as Dual rail domino logic and pseudo Nmos logic their delay and power variations in terms of adder design and logical design. Domino CMOS has become the prevailing logic family for high performance CMOS applications and it is extensively used in most state-of-the-art processors due to its high speed capabilities. The drawback of domino CMOS is that it provides only non-inverting functions because of its monotonic nature. Dual-Rail Domino logic, (also known as clocked Cascade voltage switch logic where both polarities of the output are generated, provides a robust solution to this problem.

Performance Comparison of CMOS and Finfet Based Circuits At 45nm Technology U...IJERA Editor
According to the Moore’s Law, the number of transistors in a unit chip area double every two years. But the existing technology of integrated circuit formation is posing limitations to this law. CMOS technology shows certain limitations as the device is reduced more and more in the nanometer regime out of which power dissipation is an important issue. FinFET is evolving to be a promising technology in this regard. This paper aims to analyze and compare the characteristics of CMOS and FinFET circuits at 45nm technology. Inverter circuit is implemented in order to study the basic characteristics such as voltage transfer characteristics, leakage current and power dissipation. Further the efficiency of FinFET to reduce power as compared to CMOS is proved using SRAM circuit. The results show that the average power is reduced by 92.93% in read operation and by 97.8% in write operation.
This paper aims to use a three-phase quasi-Z-source indirect matrix converter (QZSIMC) to expand the voltage gain for application in a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drives. In this converter, a unique quasi-Z-source network (QZSN) connects the three-phase input voltage to conventional indirect matrix converter (IMC) in order to boost the supply voltage for PMSM because of limited voltage gain of IMC. Dual space vector modulation (SVM) is utilized to control the QZSIMC. The amplitude of output voltage for quasi-Z-source network is raised by the shoot-through of the rectifier stage, so the system voltage gain becomes greater. Through selecting the optimized value of shoot through duty ratio (D) and modulation index of the rectifier stage (), the drive system can automatically regulate the output voltage of QZSIMC during conditions of voltage sag , step change in load torque and reference speed change when the required voltage gain of QZSIMC is more than 0.866 depending on input voltage and required output voltage. The vector control technique based on closed loop speed control is proposed to control speed of the motor from zero to rated speed which is combined with the proposed converter to obtain the motor drive. The simulation results with MATLAB /Simulink 2015 are obtained to validate performance of PMSM drive.

Design of a high frequency low voltage CMOS operational amplifierVLSICS Design
A method is presented in this paper for the design of a high frequency CMOS operational amplifier (OpAmp) which operates at 3V power supply using tsmc 0.18 micron CMOS technology. The OPAMP designed is a two-stage CMOS OPAMP followed by an output buffer. This Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) employs a Miller capacitor and is compensated with a current buffer compensation technique. The unique behaviour of the MOS transistors in saturation region not only allows a designer to work at a low voltage, but also at a high frequency. Designing of two-stage op-amps is a multi-dimensional-optimization problem where optimization of one or more parameters may easily result into degradation of others. The OPAMP is designed to exhibit a unity gain frequency of 2.02GHz and exhibits a gain of 49.02dB with a 60.50 phase margin. As compared to the conventional approach, the proposed compensation method results in a higher unity gain frequency under the same load condition. Design has been carried out in Tanner tools. Simulation results are verified using S-edit and W-edit.

In this article, we proposed a Variable threshold MOSFET(VTMOS)approach which is realized from Dynamic Threshold MOSFET(DTMOS), suitable for sub-threshold digital circuit operation. Basically the principle of sub- threshold logics is operating MOSFET in sub-threshold region and using the leakage current in that region for switching action, there by drastically decreasing power .To reduce the power consumption of sub-threshold circuits further, a novel body biasing technique termed VTMOS is introduced .VTMOS approach is realized from DTMOS approach. Dynamic threshold MOS (DTMOS) circuits provide low leakage and high current drive, compared to CMOS circuits, operated at lower voltages.
The VTMOS is based on operating the MOS devices with an appropriate substrate bias which varies with gate voltage, by connecting a positive bias voltage between gate and substrate for NMOS and negative bias voltage between gate and substrate for PMOS. With VTMOS, there is a considerable reduction in operating current and power dissipation, while the remaining characteristics are almost the same as those of DTMOS. Results of our investigations show that VTMOS circuits improves the power up to 50% when compared to CMOS and DTMOS circuits, in sub- threshold region..
The performance analysis and comparison of VTMOS , DTMOS and CMOS is made and test results of Power dissipation, Propagation delay and Power delay product are presented to justify the superiority of VTMOS logic over conventional sub-threshold logics using Hspice Tool. . The dependency of these parameters on frequency of operation has also been investigated.
A Novel Low Power Energy Efficient SRAM Cell With Reduced Power Consumption u...iosrjce
In modern high performance integrated circuits, maximum of the total active mode energy is
consumed due to leakage current. SRAM cell array is main source of leakage current since majority of
transistor are utilized for on-chip memory in today high performance microprocessor and system on chip
designs. Therefore the design of low leakage SRAM is required. Reducing power dissipation, supply voltage,
leakage currents, area of chip are the most important parameters in today`s VLSI designs. But scaling of these
parameters will lead to drastic increase in sub threshold leakage currents and power dissipation because of that
performance of the design is degraded. So to overcome these issues it is better to concentrate on reduction of
active leakage currents and dynamic power dissipation by using power reduction techniques. In this paper 9T
SRAM (data retention p-gated) cell for low voltage and energy constrain application is analyzed with respect to
power dissipation, area and delay. The analyzed design of 9T SRAM cell with MTCMOS technique has been
proposed. Designed circuits are simulated in Microwind 3.1 VLSI CAD Tool in 90 and 65nm CMOS technology.

Addition is a fundamental arithmetic operation that is broadly used in many VLSI systems, such as application-specific digital signal processing (DSP) architectures and microprocessors. This addition module is also the core of other arithmetic operations such as subtraction, multiplication, division and address generation. The prime objective of this project is to design a full-adder having low-power consumption and low propagation delay which may result in the efficient implementation of modern digital systems. This model is referred as “hybrid” because of the combination of two different design logic styles namely CMOS logic and pass transistor logic. Performance parameters such as power, delay and hence energy were compared with the existing designs such as complementary CMOS logic full adder. In the existing hybrid systems, over 28 transistors were used. While the optimized hybrid full adder circuit reduces this count to 8 transistors, it still obtains better energy efficiency. Further the proper working of proposed full adder is verified by applying it in a Ripple carry Adder circuit.

This paper presents a recursive designing approach for high energy efficient carry select adder (CSA). Nowadays, the portable equipment’s like mobile phones and laptops have higher demands in the market. So, the designers must focus greater attention while designing such devices. Which means that have the devices must have lesser power consumption, low cost and have a better performance. The customers mainly focus on the equipment’s which have lesser power consumption, low cost and better performance. As we all know that the adders are the basic building block of microprocessors. The performance of the adders greatly influences the performance of those processors. The carry select adder is most suitable among other adders which have fast addition operation at low cost. The carry select adder (CSA) consists of chain full adders (FAs) and multiplexers. Here a carry select adder is designed with four FAs and four multiplexers. The proposed structure is assessed by the power consumption of the carry select adder using a 32-nm static CMOS technology for a wide range of supply voltages. The simulation results are obtained using Tanner EDA which reveals that the carry select adder has low power consumption.
A high speed dynamic ripple carry addereSAT Journals
Abstract Adder, which is one of the basic building blocks of a processor affect the performance of the processor. There are many adder architectures each of them have their own advantage. Ripple Carry Adder (RCA) architecture occupies the minimum area among the other architectures with lesser power dissipation. RCA experiences more delay due to its carry propagation in critical path; apart from the delay it also experiences glitches. Constant delay (CD) logic solves both the delay problems and glitch related problems. CD logic, due to its pre-evaluated characteristics delivers high speed but due its bulkier nature it is used only in the critical path. In this paper two new techniques are presented which modifies the conventional timing block (requires ten transistors) in CD logic and two new timing blocks one with eight transistors and other with nine transistors are developed. The CD logic with the two new timing block is used in critical path of RCA to achieve higher speed performance with lesser area compared to conventional CD logic. The CD logic with 9-transistor timing block achieves 70% and 39% delay reduction compared to Static and Domino logics. It also achieves 21% and 5% reduction in power dissipation and delay. The 8-transistor version also achieves reduction of delay by 65% and 29% compared to Static and dynamic logic. The two versions of timing blocks have their own advantages where 9-transistor version provides high speed and 8- transistor version provides lesser power dissipation. Comparative Performance Analysis of Low Power Full Adder Design in Different ...ijcisjournal
This paper gives the comparison of performance of full adder design in terms of area, power and delay in
different logic styles. Full adder design achieves low power using the Transmission Gate logic compared to
all other topologies such as Basic CMOS, Pass Transistor and GDI techniques but it make use of more
number of transistors compared to GDI. GDI occupies less area compared to all other logic design styles.
This paper presents the simulated outcome using Tanner tools and also H-Spice tool which shows power
and speed comparison of different full adder designs. All simulations have been performed in 90nm, 45nm
and 22nm scaling parameters using Predictive Technology Models in H-Spice tool.
Ultra Low Power Design and High Speed Design of Domino Logic CircuitIJERA Editor
The tremendous success of the low-power designs of VLSI circuits over the past 50 years has significant change
in our life style. Integrated circuits are everywhere from computers to automobiles, from cell phones to home
appliances. Domino logic is a CMOS based evolution of the dynamic logic techniques based on either PMOS or
NMOS transistors. Dynamic logic circuits are used for their high performance, but their high noise and
extensive leakage has caused some problems for these circuits. Dynamic CMOS circuits are inherently less
resistant to noise than static CMOS circuits. In this paper we proposed different domino logic styles which
increases performance compared to existing domino logic styles. According to the simulations in cadence
virtuoso 65nm CMOS process, the proposed circuit shows the improvement of up thirty percent compared
existing domino logics.
FORCED STACK SLEEP TRANSISTOR (FORTRAN): A NEW LEAKAGE CURRENT REDUCTION APPR...VIT-AP University
Reduction in leakage current has become a significant concern in nanotechnology-based low-power, low-voltage, and high-performance VLSI applications. This research article discusses a new low-power circuit design the approach of FORTRAN (FORced stack sleep TRANsistor), which decreases the leakage power efficiency in the CMOS-based circuit outline in VLSI domain. FORTRAN approach reduces leakage current in both active as well as standby modes of operation. Furthermore, it is not time intensive when the circuit goes from active mode to standby mode and vice-versa. To validate the proposed design approach, experiments are conducted in the Tanner EDA tool of mentor graphics bundle on projected circuit designs for the full adder, a chain of 4-inverters, and 4-bit multiplier designs utilizing 180nm, 130nm, and 90nm TSMC technology node. The outcomes obtained show the result of a 95-98% vital reduction in leakage power as well as a 15-20% reduction in dynamic power with a minor increase in delay. The result outcomes are compared for accuracy with the notable design approaches that are accessible for both active and standby modes of operation.

Extremely Low Power FIR Filter for a Smart Dust Sensor ModuleCSCJournals
Digital filters are common components in many applications today, also in for sensor systems, such as large-scale distributed smart dust sensors. For these applications the power consumption is very critical, it has to be extremely low. With the transistor technology scaling becoming more and more sensitive to e.g. gate leakage, it has become a necessity to find ways to minimize the flow of leakage in current CMOS logic. This paper studies sub-threshold source coupled logic (STSCL) in a 45-nm process. The STSCL can be used instead of traditional CMOS to meet the low power and energy consumption requirements. The STSCL style is in this paper used to design a digital filter, applicable for the audio interface of a smart dust sensor where the sample frequency will be 44.1 kHz. A finite-length impulse response (FIR) filter is used with transposed direct form structure and for the coefficient multiplication five-bit canonic signed digit [7] based serial/parallel multipliers were used. The power consumption is calculated along with the delay in order to present the power delay product (PDP) such that the performance of the sub-threshold logic can be compared with corresponding CMOS implementation. The simulated results shows a significant reduction in energy consumption (in terms of PDP) with the system running at a supply voltage as low as 0.2 V using STSCL.
A power efficient delta-sigma ADC with series-bilinear switch capacitor volta...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
In low-power VLSI design applications non-linearity and harmonics are a major dominant factor which affects the performance of the ADC. To avoid this, the new architecture of voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) was required to solve the non-linearity issues and harmonic distortion. In this work, a 12-bit, 200MS/s low power delta-sigma analog to digital converter (ADC) VCO based quantizer was designed using switched capacitor technique. The proposed technique uses frequency to current conversion technique as a linearization method to reduce the non-linearity issue. Simulation result show that the proposed 12-bit delta-sigma ADC consumes the power of 2.68 mW and a total area of 0.09 mm² in 90 nm CMOS process.
Impact of Hybrid Pass-Transistor Logic (HPTL) on Power, Delay and Area in VL...IJMER
Abstract: Power reduction is a serious concern now days. As the MOS devices are wide spread, there is
high need for circuits which consume less power, mainly for portable devices which run on batteries, like
Laptops and hand-held computers. The Pass-Transistor Logic (PTL) is a better way to implement circuits
designed for low power applications.
NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN CONDENSING HEAT EXCHANGERS...ssuser7dcef0
Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.
