together in one large group, they are broken down into smaller groups. Each group
lives in their own pod. Each pod had a central living space and outside fresh air

Alice Walker shows Myop s innocence and subsequent loss thereof through her
usage of vivid imagery as well as the small setting and symbolism in The Flowers.
Myop s sudden exposure to the harsh reality of racism surrounding her shatters her
innocence. This moment marks a change in the tone of the short story, showcasing
the main character s shift in how she understands the world around her. Myop is
suddenly and violently thrust into a world in which skin color dictates how others in
society will treat her.
There is a noticeable shift in tone in The Flowers as Myop becomes exposed to the
world outside her home. The initial tone of the short story is carefree and child like.
Although the point of view of the story is third person omniscient, it is still evident
that the readers are viewing the story through the perspective of a child. The young

DOI: 3/3/2009. Patient is a 57 year old female home attendant who suffered
laceration to her right hand when she slipped/fell on sidewalk. She underwent L4 5
and L5 S1 anterior/posterior lumbar fusion on 10/20/2012.
Based on medical report dated 07/15/15, the patient presents with severe bilateral low
back, buttock, perineal and leg pain for 5 years. Pain is rated at 6 10/10. The pain is
located in the perineum, coccyx, vagina/urethra, and low back. The pain is constant
and described as burning, sharp and stabbing (like knife) in character. The pain
increases with activity, laying supine, sitting, and in the evening and is decreased

She has had chronic urinary incontinence since the initial injury. She is doing pelvic
floor PT, without benefit. She is to return for 1 more visit after the planned pudendal

paravertebral muscular, sacroiliac, coccyx, and ischial spine. Patrick s test is
positive bilaterally. Heel and toe walking is abnormal. Straight leg raise is positive
bilaterally. Range o fmotion shows flexion to 40 degrees and extension to 30 degrees
