David Petraeus was born in 1952 in New York and attended West Point, graduating at the top of his class. He then went on to complete Ranger School with top honors. Throughout his career, he demonstrated commitment and a drive to achieve challenges. As a leader, he was humble and focused on progress over personal success. He led the 101st Airborne Division in 2003 using counterinsurgency strategies focused on winning local populations, an approach that eventually became national strategy in Iraq in 2006.
