John F. Kennedy was the first Roman Catholic president of the United States. He served from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. As president, Kennedy launched the Peace Corps and the Alliance for Progress aid programs. He also set the goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s through the Apollo program. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963. His presidency and assassination had a lasting impact on America.
