Summary Of The R. J Reynolds Tobacco Company s Advertising...
Today in American society the social normality of smoking cigarettes is in a rapid decline. It
seems with each passing year there are increasing numbers of legislation restricting where people
can place advertisement and where smoking is even permitted. Smoking cigarettes for many years
was a focal point in American culture projecting the image of this prosperous social status
obtainable for everyone. R.J. Reynolds TobaccoCompany, the creators of the Newport Pleasure!
Advertisement heavily takes this progressive movement into consideration when creating the
illusion that smokingis socially accepted. The R.J Reynolds Tobacco Company s advertising
campaign connects the use of logos and pathos extremely and effectively displaying their message.
In order to recreate the social normality of smoking advertisers select a wide range of healthy
socially active youth, place a campaign slogan that their consumers are unable to miss, and heavily
doctor the focal elements of this advertisement. A consumer viewing this advertisement is... Show

Advertisers at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company hold no bounds on the hyperbole used in this
advertisement. The logical inference made in the human brain when reading Newport Pleasure! , an
exclaimed expression, leaves the impression that pleasure is attained through use of a Newport
cigarette. This heavy word play used to entice consumers completely disregards the consequences
associated with smoking that certainly are not pleasurable. The effects of smoking like a bright
shiny yellow smile and a pungent lingering odor that perforates from consumers skin are actually
quite unpleasant. The enticing campaign rhetoric pushes this false reality solely for the purpose of
recapturing the once highly aspired social status behind smoking in American

Clay Street Hill Railroad History
The first successful cable operated street railway was the Clay Street Hill Railroad, which
opened on August 2, 1873. The promoter of the line was Andrew Smith Hallidie, and the
engineer was William Eppelsheimer. The line involved the use of grip cars, which carried the
grip that engaged with the cable, towing trailer cars; the design was the first to use grips. The
term grip became synonymous with the operator. The line started regular service on September 1,
1873, and its success led it to become the template for other cable car transit systems. It was a
financial success, and Hallidie s patents were enforced on other cable car promoters, making him
wealthy. The next cable car line to open was the Sutter Street Railway, which converted... Show

This company was controlled by the Southern Pacific Railroad and was to grow to become San
Francisco s largest cable car operator. At its peak, it operated five lines all of which converged
into Market Street to a common terminus at the Ferry Building; during rush hours, cars left that
terminus every 15 seconds. Telegraph Hill Railroad in San Francisco 1884 1886 The Telegraph
Hill Railroad was a funicular railway that operated using two cars permanently attached to a
cable. The car going downhill helped to counterbalance the car going uphill. The Telegraph Hill
Railroad opened in 1884. It was promoted by Frederick O. Layman. The incline ran along
Greenwich Street, from Powell Street to Layman s Pioneer Park Observatory. The observatory
was a large resort complex near the present location of Coit Tower. The attraction offered
telescopes for the viewing public from which to observe the wonders of the San Francisco Bay
and a restaurant. On the roof was a time ball, clearly visible to ships in the Bay. Every day at
noon the ball was dropped so that ship s captains could set their chronometers by observing it. The
steam engine which drove the cable was in the basement of the pavilion. The railway used a single
track with a passing siding at the

Steroid Case Study
1/ What is the difference between the upper and lower respiratory? The respiratory tract is the
system that allows you to breathe air into your lungs and back out again. The passageway that air
travels through is divided into two sections, the upper respiratory tract, and the lower respiratory
tract.
The upper respiratory tract includes the nose, throat, voice box (larynx) and upper windpipe
(trachea).
The lower respiratory tract includes bronchi (the two branches the windpipe divides into as it
enters the lungs), bronchioles (even smaller branches of air tubes) and alveoli (the tiny air sacs at
the end of the bronchioles).
The air that we breathe is full of germs, so infections of the respiratory tract are very common,

How does this type of steroid work? Who should NOT take this type of drug and why? Patient with
asthma can be given a corticosteroid (Prednisone) to help with the inflammation: Steroids are a
family of chemicals normally made within the body. They serve as hormones chemical signals that
help to regulate the body s growth and function. Some steroid hormones, like testosterone, stimulate
the formation of protein and growth of muscle. Competitive athletes have been known to take
illicitly derivatives of these body building steroids in large amounts to improve their athletic
performance.
How does this type of steroid work? Steroids are taken in tablet or liquid form oral steroids are
usually prescribed for asthma that has become difficult to control by any other means; they are
the most effective treatment available for a severe attack of asthma. Most often, they are
prescribed for a short period of time: a short course may be as brief as 3 4 days or as long as 2 3
weeks. They are stopped when asthma has gotten better and other treatments suffice to keep it under
control. Longer periods of treatment and continuous treatment with oral steroids are generally
avoided except for the most difficult to control asthma because of the undesirable side effects that
often develop with prolonged oral steroid

The Titanic And The Titanic
The Titanic was one of a trio. Her sisters were the Olympic and the Gigantic. These ships were
made by the White Star Lines, all of their names ending with ic . The White Star Lines were
known for making the top of the line, most luxurious ship liners of their time. The point in
making luxurious and fast ship liners were to compete and beat the German ship liners. This ship
race between Germany and Britain went clear back to the 1860 s. As Britain kept getting out
bested by Germany an American trust builder named Junius Pierpont Morgan saw a chance to
make money or a monopoly. Morgan realized the rivalry and had already monopolized U.S
railroads, and wanted to to take control over the North Atlantic Shipping Lines. Morgan s first
move in 1898 was when he bought the more ran down Inman Line. The owner of the White Star
Line, Thomas Ismay, foresaw a big rate war on the North Atlantic and resisted Morgan until his
death in 1899. After Ismay s death Morgan jumped at the opportunity to get more control by
purchasing a controlling interest from the German lines, Hamburg Amerika and Norddeutscher
Lloyd. Just a year later Morgan gained control of the Leyland Line, the Dominion Line, and the
Red Star Line. His next targets were the White Star Line, and the Cunard. For competition Morgan
cut fares until his lines were a third class passage to America for as little as two euros, ($2.38). J.
Bruce Ismay, the son of Thomas Ismay, resisted Morgan like his father.

Ephesians 3
During the first week the class was divided into eight small groups. Each group was given the
task to collectively agree on a common definition on the gospel founded in the Bible. During
that time students including myself had to compromise and possible argue their point. As I
reflect on the experience of working in a group to provide a working definition for the gospel
three things stand out persuasion, pressure, and practice. Persuasion from outside influences
mainly NT Wright s book. In my group one of the members was quickly persuaded by Wright i.e.
The gospel is news not advise. As christians I think we aren t to be easily persuaded. Ephesians 4
preaches supports this point well. And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the
shepherds, and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of
Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature
manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be
children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human
cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (Ephesians 4:11 14 ESV)

Ultimately I don t know why, but two possibilities include that the gospel is well know and
therefore we should know or to just finish and leave class. This pressure lead me to accept what
our group decide the first time without arguing my point. We collectively combined are
definitions for our answer, however if I were to do it again I d argue against using NT Wright s
words, because we didn t have enough time to compare Wright s claims to that of the Bible.

my own definition of what I think spirituality is and if it differs from religion. I also need to
explain whether or not I believe Americans are becoming more accepting of other religions. The
last questioned I need to answer is what would happen if the United States decided to financially
back all Catholic churches. I hope to answer all of these questions to the best of my ability in the
next few paragraphs.
When it comes to spirituality I believe that it is something that you feel within our soul. It is your

Introduction Over the years, with the corporate development and social or statutes pressure, some
concepts and standards related with audit is uncertainly or ambiguous. The obvious question is
whether auditors should be blame when they failing to warn investors to ailing firms financial
problems and risks (McNabb, 2009). In my opinion, auditors should be blame when they did not
provide sufficient and useful information to alert to investors. Prior to answer the question,
according to the NZICA (2007) required that be a auditor should to compliance with the code of
ethics five necessary principles, integrity, objectivity and independence, competence, quality ...

In additional, audit is also usefully to managers, auditors will examine apartment s performances

and recent market crash, investors require auditors expose whether the company s financial
statements is correctness and represented the reality economy situation about the company more
important than some small embezzlement in the company (Van Peursem Pratt, 2006). The
investors will make money when their shares indexes that will be influenced by whether the
company has powerful and profitable situation in the current and future increase at stock
exchange, so many investors want to research and collect auditors reporting for relative company
to help them to choose a good companies stock. Therefore, if the information auditors exposed is
incorrect and false, it will make many investors lose money, like the Enron or WorldCom scandal.
On this occasion, auditors have responsibility to alert public investors when they discover some
financial risk in the company. However, some financial risk will has not any negative effects of the
company and hard to discover, which will put auditors into a very ambiguous position. Nonetheless,
according the code of ethic, the competence requires auditors should have professional skill to

What Could Have Changed If More Things Were Questioned? We all know the story of the
Donner Party; They wanted to move west for a better life and a better future, but things went
wrong. We all cringe when we think of how they had to or were assumed to have committed
cannibalism to survive. But have we ever wondered what would have happened if something had
gone another way or if someone had said or done something different? Did the travelers in the
Donner Party ever wonder that? I believe some did, but did not want to admit that something went
wrong or did not want to take the blame for it. I agree with Frank Mullen when he describes the

He tells them all he will return the robes in the morning, but Jim Reed tells him to do it
immediately. People from the group agree in unison, fearing what the Indians may do the
longer the robes are missing. While on the ride back, Keseburg refuses to speak , and is hesitant
to return the robes once they arrive back to the burial site (SMP 11). As Keseburg is placing the
robes back at their rightful places, Reed informs him that he is prepared to put Keseburg on the
stand and have the group decide his fate. Little did Reed know, Keseburg had made the decision
to leave in the night before a decision could be made. In this situation, Keseburg realizes he has
done something wrong and has endangered his fellow travelers. With this in mind, Keseburg
changes course and leaves before they can decide his fate. If Keseburg had not left in the night,
what would the group have decided for his fate? Would they ban him? Would they punish him?
Take his cattle? Keseburg knew he would not have a good chance of staying so, instead of waiting
for them to tell him in the morning, he avoided the whole thing and left in the night. If Keseburg
had waited until the morning, would the party have let him rejoin three weeks later or would they
have continued to banish him? I believe that they would have still decided to let him return unless
the Sioux Indians had attacked the party. If the party ended up being

Acute Real Failure
The diagnosis of acute renal failure (ARF), also referred to as acute kidney injury (AKI),
encompasses a wide ranging continuum of acute renal pathologies that are characterized by sudden
deterioration of kidney function. This results in abrupt aberrations in fluid, electrolyte, and acid
base balance, nitrogenous waste removal, creatinine clearance, and glomerular filtration rate. ARF
or AKI is subdivided into three general categories based on the etiology. Again, aging alone,
without the presence of any comorbidities, is associated with an increased susceptibility to ARF.
This is due to deterioration of renal blood flow with age and consequent decrease in glomerular
filtration rate (GFR). This is probably because, with these changes, there... Show more content on

intracellular potassium ion gradient is fundamental to the establishment of the resting membrane
potential in excitable cells (neurons and muscle cells) is necessary in order to appreciate how
hyperkalemia (excess extracellular K) disrupts this delicate balance. Because of the loss of this
potassium gradient, excitable cells become hypopolarized, and are therefore less responsive to
stimuli (action potentials). This results in muscle weakness and flaccid paralysis that progresses in
an ascending pattern. The main concern with hyperkalemia is its implication on the cardiac
system (Copstead Banasik, 2013). Hyperkalemia that exceeds 6.0 mEq/L can be fatal because of
its depressant effects on myocardial activity. This is demonstrated on an ECG tracing with the
disappearance of the P wave, extended T wave and QRS segment, and depressed ST segment.
Should this happen, the client is an emergent situation and immediate measures must be taken to
reduce serum potassium to prevent cardiac arrest (Osborn, et al. 2014). This patient s serum
potassium was 6.1 mEq/L on arrival, which placed at an extremely high risk for cardiac
dysfunction. He was immediately given a combination of immediate and longer acting medications
to lower his serum potassium (calcium, D50, insulin, bicarbonate, and

Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy
Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy disease (MNGIE) is an extremely rare
disease that affects the process of muscles and shows up in equal numbers of men and women.
Only 70 cases of this disease have been reported. A mutation of the thymidine phosphorylase causes
MNGIE and lowers the production of adenosine triphosphate production. To begin, mitochondrial
neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy disease is related to adenosine triphosphate because it lowers
the production. In a case report on Hindawi called Anesthetic Management of a Child with
Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy it states, These mutations can result in a
decrease in ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation in the respiratory chain found in the
mitochondria, affecting tissues that have high energy demands including cardiac, nervous, and
skeletal muscle tissue. An enzyme called thymidine phosphorylase, mutates affecting how ATP is
made. As a result, it affects the muscle cells of the organism because people with this disorder do
not have enough energy to move their muscles in their body. Also, in Genetic Home Reference that
had the topic of MNGIE, it reads ... the muscles and nerves of the digestive system do not move
food through the digestive tract efficiently. The resulting digestive problems include feelings of
fullness (satiety)

King James Influence On Macbeth
Four hundred and fifty one years ago, a king was born. This king would be the ruler of not only
Scotland, but England as well. He would have seven children with his wife, and he would be a
great ruler. King James and his lineage is associated throughout the story of Macbeth.
King James was born on June 19, 1566 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Known as James VI, he was the
king of Scotland until 1625. He was the first Stuart king of England from 1603 to 1625 who would
be followed in throne by Charles I. James was the son of Mary and Henry Stewart; His father,
Henry, was the Duke of Albany. Mary was the Queen of Scots. Matthew Stewart, fourth Earl of
Lennox, and Margaret Douglas were the parents of Henry Stewart. James also had a second pair
of grandparents, James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise. Anne, the daughter of Frederick II of
Denmark, married James in 1589. Five years later they had a baby boy, Prince Henry; however,
he died fourteen months later. James and Anne had Elizabeth in 1596 and Margaret two years
later. Then came Robert, born in 1601, Mary in 1605 and lastly Sophia in 1607, all of these last

James, one year old, became king of Scotland on July 24, 1567; Mary left the kingdom on May

of fourteen; He was very intelligent and was not shy to share his smarts with others. In 1582,
James was kidnapped by William Ruthven, First Earl of Gowrie. A year later he escaped and
returned to his rule of king. James became head of the Presbyterian church in Scotland in 1584.
King James did a very good job at ending the war quickly between ENgland and Spain in 1604. In
1611, James dissolved the parliment. Toward the end of the reign of King James he was very
powerless. On March 27, 1625 King James of England and Scotland

He also shows the courage of the soldiers by writing, Men marched asleep . Many had lost their
boots, but limped on, blood shod . The first stanza has eight lines and follows the rhyming scheme
of A, B, A, B through out the poem.
Owen uses this stanza as a tool to build up the story and is able to set the scene for the reader.
Owen uses many similes in this poem and writes, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, and
Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge . Owen uses a number of verbs as
adjectives such as haunting flares and dropping flares… The second Stanza is six lines and it
also has the rhyming scheme A, B, A, B, C, D.
Throughout the stanza Owen uses graphic detail to emphasise the pain of the soldiers, which
creates for the reader a violent image, which is calmed down by the last line, Of gas shells
dropping softly behind. The next line is, Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! Again this changes the mood,
from peaceful to violent. The reader then becomes prepared for some action in the poem. This is
a swift build up of description into the untimely demise of one of the soldiers. There are a lot of
one word sentences and exclamation marks to show the panic and horror of the soldiers.
The soldier, who is harmed by the gas bomb, is described by Wilfred
Owen as a helpless creature through the usage of words such as
floundering . The polluted air around him is described as a green
sea.

Eating Disorders Program Analysis
Eating disorders have long been a problem in the United States. Most fail to grasp the severity
until someone close to them experiences the difficulties. Personally, I realized the prevalence of
eating disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or
skipped meals in order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would
assume, younger children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments.
Realizing the problem, I decided that I would create a program that would educate younger
children regarding the seriousness and effects of eating disorders. Before designing the
program, I researched for weeks in order to find facts and statistics concerning eating disorders
in the United States. The research proved that disorders begin in children as young as age seven
or eight. Additionally, pre teenagers predominantly suffer from eating disorders. The research also
showed that countless victims remain unnoticed due to a reluctance to tell an adult. Peers lack the
education to recognize a presented disorder. In order to curb the problem, pre teens need to be
taught how to identify a disorder and how to aid a friend. To educate the pre teens, I developed a
program called I Like Me Because. The program involves an interactive slideshow that highlights

Features Of A Relational Database
Features of a relational database
Primary keys:
The main feature of a relation database would be the primary key. It is a unique identifier set to
each and every record that travels across different tables in relationships. An example of a
primary key is a Social Security number. The primary keys job is to make each record unique and
it lets data to be kept in more than one table. Each table within a relational database will have a field
for the primary key. Foreign keys:
A foreign key is a column in a database that links data between tables by cross referencing
because it references primary keys from other tables. For example if there are two tables, customer

Validation rules
Validation within a database is used to make sure the data entered into the database is sensible
and makes sense, also to avoid any typing errors. You make a rule which only allows certain
things to be typed into the database e.g. only 11 numbers for a mobile phone number so that you
don t accidently type the wrong amount of digits. It will come up as an error if you try and then
that is when you notice your mistake. Benefits
Having a relational database will greatly reduce the data redundancy because it will get rid of the
repeated data within a database. This is done by going through the normalisation process and
therefore since there is less data in the database it is much faster access, searching data, updating
data, sorting and reporting.
Stages of normalisation
The steps of normalisation will be fully explained in the following steps: Firstly you need to turn
this into a unormalised table by:
Create column headings for the table for each data item on the report and ignore any calculated

Granting credit to peasant farmers for the cost they incurred on land preparation, weeding and
harvesting operations and labour to increase the use of agricultural inputs will enable them most
importantly to be able to adopt modern farming techniques, so as to increase their agricultural
productivity. Farmer s access to credit will enable them use tractors, which will lead to increased

increased income and improved standard of living, which is imperative. Public policy in
mobilizing financial resources for agricultural development has not been very effective for a
number of reasons. First, there have been no consistent and effective policies to make private
investment in agriculture more attractive due to persistently low productivity. While this has not
induced the necessary industrial growth in the sector to create larger markets for farm output, it
has also curtailed free flow of funds from the private sector. As a result, the bulk of the investment
in agriculture has been from state resources. The proportion of agricultural output in the GDP
which was close to 60 percent during the 1960s stagnated below 30 percent for most of the 1970s,
although, there has been a reversal of this negative trend since the National Economic
Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS) was introduced in 2004. The achieved proportion

Diversity Vs Human Diversity
Is a person a homosexual or do they simply identify as a female in a man s body; is a lady African
American or does she simply have dark colored skin? These are two of the basic examples of how
science and culture have differing opinions. In this work, I will examine the diametrically opposing
views of science versus culture on human variation. The concepts of raceversus skin color and
genderversus sex will be the primary focal points of this writing. For the scientific perspective,
data will be used from the works of both D. Crocetti, who holds a PhD in Science, Technology
and Humanities. and G.D. James, who holds a doctorate degree in biological anthropology.
These are both subject matter experts in their chosen fields of study. For the cultural perspective,
I will primarily use my own experiences and observations to show the dichotomy between how
culture and science view human variation. This dichotomy is especially apparent in both race vs
physical appearance and gender vs sex, which are often highly debated and publicized topics in
today s world. In the following paragraphs I will highlight a few of those disagreements.
I have always believed that skin color is simply the color of a person s skin, and while it can tell
you where their ancestors came from, it is not a determinate that can tell you how they will act,
think or their basic intelligence level. The scientific perspective supports this view, but explains not
only how but why there is a

The core responsibilities of operations managers tend to be similar across many industries. The
planning of various company operations and activities is another major concern of the operations
manager. Operations managers tend to determine which products are bought and sold, what prices
they are bought or sold for and to whom they will be marketed. The operations manager also helps
plan and coordinate activities between various departments such as determining what types of sales
promotions the company will engage in. (Chron.com) Operation managers add value to a company
s products or services by ensuring that business operations are efficient in terms of using as few
resources as needed, and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements. An operations

The Marketing Mix Of Starbucks
II)Marketing Mix
The marketing mix is the set of tactical marketing tools that the firm blends to produce the response
it wants in the target market. It consists of everything the firm can do to influence the demand for
its products (Kotler et al., 2013, p.53). Its main characteristics can be categorised into a 4Ps
framework.
a)Product
Starbucks was initially known as a premium coffee chain for high standard coffee lovers.
However, throughout the years and the fierce competition, Starbucks has expanded its product
portfolio to match new customer needs. They introduced the brands Tazo Tea and Fizzio
offering caffeine free handcrafted sodas (Mintel, 2014). They also launched innovative
beverages like the Frappuccino, and created an extensive food menu. In fact, a study has shown
that around 22% of hot drink purchasers were very interested in seeing baked goods on the
menu of coffee shops (Mintel, 2014). They also do their best to introduce seasonal offerings,
such as the gingerbread for Christmas (Erin, 2010). They now host 8 main categories of drinks
and 7 of food to attract a wider range of consumers (i.e. the non coffee lovers). Nevertheless,
beverages still account for 60% of sales in the store (Statista, 2015). Beyond serving drinks and
food, Starbucks enables its customers to purchase Starbucks coffee and cappuccino makers, to
extend the Starbucks experience at home, in a Starbucks mug. Each product is unique since the

Cultural Values And The Dominant Culture
When looking to understand one s culture in comparison to the dominant culture it is important to
take into consideration a variety of cultural values. In comparing myself to the dominant culture in
the United States I have found both similarities as well as differences between my worldviews and
the majority worldview. In order to fully assess how I have come to acquire my worldviews it is
important to look into contextual and circumstantial factors that have shaped me as an individual.
American culture values individualism where putting yourself first is seen as the norm. In
comparison, Hispanic cultures value the family, or a group dynamic, rather than each person as an
individual entity (Kirst Ashman, 2013, p. 457). I am close with my family and value the family
dynamic we have as a group; however, I believe that I must first take care of myself in order to be
able to help out others. In addition, competition is valued by dominant American culture. In
America winning is everything (Scott, 2015). Although I value individualism, I am the least
competitive person I know. I believe that this stems from placing value on myself for myself (and
well being) rather than for others or in comparison to others. When focusing on the individual it is
easy to place high importance upon one s status within society. American culture places high value
upon credentials, titles, roles, and material possessions that create each person s power status. It
would be absurd for me to say that my

Costing and Pricing Decisions
Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS
Costing and Pricing Decisions
Cost Allocations
Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect
costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect
costs can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to
calculate fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately.
Three common costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs
and opportunity costs (Jiambalvo, 2007).
Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint
products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs.
A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the
assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about
the company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if
they are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The
last way Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine
the opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based
on sunk costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on
being able to price their future products appropriately.
Opportunity Costs
An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of
this would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying
your credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a
result of not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo,
2007).

The slaters, like other animals have specific requirements that need to meet for optimal biological
functioning. The slaters behavioural and physiological response is to its condition of the
environment it is in. The slaters are very easy animals to find. Slaters can be found in dark, damp,
sheltered places in almost any kind of environment. They can be also found in places like compost
bins, forest grounds, leaf litter, in rotting wood, under tree bark, under animal carcasses, under
brick and rocks. During the day they spend their time under shelters, and at night they come out
and search for food. If the slaters were exposed to light, when they were under their shelter, they
would try to escape the light, but they aren t fast runners. Slaters are very sensitive to light
exposure, as they can desiccate. Slaters are not harmful, nor do they bite.
Temperature and pH of their environment is very important, as because it determines their rate of
growth and reproductive potential, if the factors are outside their optimum range it can limit the
slaters survival rate. They tend to reproduce, as well as grow faster when there is food
accessibility and temperatures are optimal. The slaters endurance is also highly linked to levels of
soil bacteria, nitrogen to carbon ration of soil, and also leaf toughness.
Slaters have a very important role in the ecosystem, especially of the soils; because they help

The Mystery Of The Stonehenge

The Mysterious Stonehenge The Stonehenge, built thousands of years ago, is a mystery to us all.
How did it get there? Who built it and why? Was it aliens that brought this here? Everyone has
questions and theories regarding this amazing structure. Through rigorous research and countless
unearthing s, of forgotten stones and even human remains, people have always been insanely
curious as to how these stones were placed, why, and by who. The mystery of the Stonehenge is just
that, a mystery. With an abundant amount of history behind these stones, it is something to be
discussed for ages. So how did these stones appear? With no modern technology such as cranes
and other machinery to lift the immensely heavy stones, it s no wonder scientists are still
stumped to this day. It is believed to have been once used as a burial ground and also a place for
worship. Some archeologists believe that Stonehenge the mysterious arrangement of enormous
elongated stones in England is actually a crude effort by the Druids to build a computing device.
(David Berry). Other scientists believe it was the Neolithic and Bronze age people of southern
Britain, who inhabited the chalk lands. I believe that unless we have someone who was around
during that time or we have written documentation of what happened and how the stones were
placed, we will truly never know how this amazing structure was built. What we have discovered

From Liberation To Conquest Chapter 1 Summary
Since its creation, the causes of the rise of the US empire has created controversy among
historians. This raised questions such as: what role did race play in the creation of the American
empire. Nell Irvin Painter, Walter L. Williams, Paul A. Kramer, and Bonnie M. Miller are historians
that identify raceas a crucial element in the U.S. empire building. They choose to focus on different
aspects and perspectives, and how racial ideas were involved in the Philippines during the Spanish
American War. By exploring this specific aspect, the four historians sought out to answer the
questions that previous historians could not.
In chapter 5 of her 1987 novel Standing At Armageddon , Painter reflected on the Spanish American
War, its aftermath, and the imperialism in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miller explores the basis of the overwhelming support for imperialism in the Caribbeans and Pacific,
showing how the nation s leading media makers editorialists, cartoonists, filmmakers,
photographers, and stage performers captured the public s interest in the Cuban crisis with heart
rending depictions of Cuban civilians, particularly women, brutalized by bloodthirsty Spanish
pirates. She asserts that As instruments of persuasion, images communicate differently than words
do, reach broader audiences, and may or may not be overly political. Similar to Painter, Kramer,
and Williams, Miller alludes to and comments about The White Man s Burden . She proclaims that
Americans leading cartoonists constituted a white Anglo Saxon male figure of the empire and
subordinated his counterparts through visual gradations of age, gender, and color. Through the use
of images and cartoons, Miller examines the shifting media portrayals of U.S. actions for the
duration of the conflict, from liberation to conquest. She reveals how the media capitalized on the
public s thirst for drama, action, and spectacle and adapted to emerging imperial

How Miller s Life Reflected His Work
Author Miller was an American play wright and really rose up to the top in the years following
World War Two. The way Millers life was deeply impacted the way he would write. Miller was also
a very well known playwright and his work was greatly appreciated. He portrays problems with
family, life, society and himself in death. Miller writes clever and original messages to the readers.
Miller pours out so much emotion into his books and stories, therefore it all reflects onto all of his
writingskills.
Author Miller is able to put into words what every person feels, worries and thinks about very
accurately. The main reason why Millers writing is impacted so deeply is because of the Great

He really puts himself into the audience and delivers to them what they all want. Due to all his last
events and trembling past life he became very good at being understandable and relatable. His
whole life truly and beautifully impacted the way he wrote. Miller never dealt in fanciful subject
and his characters never really resorted to any undue affectation.
His realism reflects a very modernist sensibility focused on the struggles of everyday figures and
the tragedies of life just as it blossoms and triumphs. Miller had a very strong belief that the
power of the theater is to transform the society as a unit, as a whole. Miller made a very heavy
dose of allegory in his plays, soaked in realism. Then Author Millers plays deal a lot of issues
which are strong between right and wrong.
The most important part is that they re stressed how people treat others issues in time of intense
pressure, just like in All my sons for an example The businessman selling faulty parts to the army
in order to keep his family heathy and fed. Millers style reflects a strong sense of values which
are ethical and knows how difficult it could be to understand others values. Millers whole style
retains a deep compassion for his protagonist who holds onto their values or sacrifices.

Using Aweighted Graph Of A Graph
INTRODUCTION we define a graph as a collection of a number of vertices and edges, and each
of its edge basically connects a pair of its vertices. Whereas a tree can be defined as an acyclic
graph that is connected. The edges of a graph are assigned with some numerical valuethat may
represent the distance between the vertices, the cost or the time etc. that is why it is called
aweighted graph. An acyclicgraph that is weightedis known as a weighted tree. The minimum
spanning tree(MST) in a weighted graph is called aspanning tree. In this graph the sum of the
weights of all the edges is minimum. Multiple MST are present in a graph, but all of theseneedto
have unique sum total cost. The problem in constructing MST in an undirected, connected,
weighted graph is one of the most known classic optimization problems.Such problems can be
solved by greedy or dynamic algorithms within polynomial time.In 1926, first practical problem
related to the MST was identified by Boruvka. But now, there are several practically
relatedalternatives of the MST problem that were verified to belong to the NP hard class. For an
instance the Degree Constrained MST problem [2],Bounded Diameter MST (BDMST) problem

many effective algorithms have beenintroduced by many researchers. However, the Kruskal s

The conditions apply, in fact, in any situation in which the development of the person is a goal
(Rogers, 1959, 1961). Here is a brief summary from the point of view of psychotherapy, but the
description applies to all of the foregoing relationships. The first element has to do with
genuineness, realness, or congruence. The more the therapist is him or herself in the relationship,
putting up no professional front or personal facade, the greater is the likelihood that the client will
change and grow in a constructive manner. The second attitude of importance in creating a climate
for change is acceptance, or caring or prizing unconditional positive regard. It means that when the
therapist is experiencing a positive, nonjudgmental, accepting attitude toward whatever the client is
at that moment, therapeutic movement or change is more likely. . . . The third facilitative aspect of
the relationship is empathic understanding. This means that the therapist senses accurately the
feelings and personal meanings that are being experienced by the client and communicates this
acceptant understanding to the client. (Rogers, 1986). Additional assumptions, beliefs and
hypotheses that are central to the person centered approach are the following: 1. Belief that human
nature is basically constructive. 2. Belief that human nature is basically social. 2 3. Belief that self
regard is a basic human need and that self regard, autonomy and individual

Identifying Covalent, Ionic And Hydrogen Bonds
After completing the lab, we will be able to identify covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds.
Hydrogen bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it
occurs between hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole
dipole bond. A dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that
the bond between hydrogen and oxygenin a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of
covalent bond is the bond between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we

sticking to other molecules. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water

instead of parafilm we will use a glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water
molecules and the adhesion between the water and glass slide. After, we are done pipetting the
water and observing, we will then demonstrate what happened in the pipette part (both the parafilm
and the glass slide) of the experiment using the 12 water molecules and the non magnetic tray. The

Descriminationn Against Irish American Immigrants and Native Americans
Racism is a problem with roots reaching as far back as biblical times, and it is questionable as to
whether or not racial discrimination will ever vanish. Many different groups of people have been
subject to racism over time. Two historical examples of people who were discriminated against
because of their nationality are Native Americans and Irish American immigrants. Although the
situations they faced are not quite identical, they have an abundance of similarities. The Native
Americans and the Irish citizens who immigrated to the United States suffered a similar plight in
the sense that both peoples were persecuted for their cultural differences as well as ... Show more

In this bloody encounter, Jackson s forces slaughtered nearly eight hundred Indians, including
many women and children. His soldiers made bridle reins from strips of skin taken from the
corpses; they also cut off the tip of each dead Indian s nose for body count. (Brinkley, 85) The
Creeks were forced westward, off their homelands, and Jackson won a commission as major general
in the United States Army.(Brinkley, 212)
Andrew Jackson fueled his troops by describing the Native Americans as savage bloodhounds and
blood thirsty barbarians. (Brinkley, 212) The General made every attempt to depict the Indians as
the enemy, who should be suppressed for the benefit of the white man. After the triumph at Horse
Shoe Bend, Jackson told his troops:
The fiends of the Tallapoosa will no longer murder our women and children, or disturb the quiet
of our borders . . . . They have disappeared from the face of the Earth. In their places a new
generation will arise who will know their duties better . . . . How lamentable it is that the path to
peace should lead through blood, and over the carcasses of the slain!! But it is in the dispensation
of that providence, which inflicts partial evil to produce general good.(Takaki, 85 86)

Richard Cory By Edward Arlington Robinson
Kevin Kovacs
ENGL 102 007
Professor Estes
December 10, 2015
An Unexpected End
Richard Cory , by Edward Arlington Robinson is a narrative poem about how a collective group
of people perceive a man of high status. The townspeople look up to Richard Cory and strive to
be just like him. For the most part, the poem itself is quite basic and somewhat uneventful.
However, the reasons I take an interest in the poem are based on Robinson s decision to write the
poem so plainly, the phrases used to describe Richard Cory, and the shocking finale.
Once the reader begins to really analyze the poem it is apparent that it was not written in a very
complex or thought provoking manner. The poem itself is written with an ABAB rhyme scheme
and without much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything in the poem up until this point had been written in a sort of simplistic manner. Richard
Cory s death is a surprise to everyone who reads the poem because there is no obvious hint to why
he would commit suicide. The poem leaves us thinking why would a man with such poise do
something like that to himself? I believe that this is a great example of the phrase, looks can be
deceiving . Throughout the poem, we are only told how Richard Cory was perceived through the
eyes of the town. The reader never gets to learn anything about Richard Cory from himself. I feel
that the contrast between how the poem sounds and what ultimately happens in the end really
gives this poem its meaning. Ultimately, Richard Cory is a poem about how one man can have it
all and yet still feel alone. Despite his effort to normalize himself by visiting the town, he was still
seen as the outsider. Over time, Richard Cory s status and wealth began his fall into a friendless
depression that lead to his

Venesta Vs Covenanta Analysis
We can t run away from life because we are that life; and that life exist and it is real, we can
experience it according to TANTRA. So TANTRA uses this and reverses this cycle. One
difference I find is that TANTRA suggests transformation of anything or any non thing that binds
/contract us. For example attachment to our body or ego believing that we are that body or that
we are that ego. So in TANTRA, the body and all the things , non things and the energies of life
are fully respected because they are considered manifestations of the Divine, and the Divine
resides within them, we are also that Divine. The body is not good or bad, it is something to be
transcended. On the other hand, VEDANTA suggests a direct experience of transcending
anything or any non thing as opposed to transformation because there is nothing to be
transformed. We are already that oneness, pure consciousness, Brahman, the Absolut. The
method of non dualistic VEDANTA is to negate all things or non things , which VEDANTA
calls unreal, until one sees nothing, but Brahman, or pure and undifferentiated consciousness. In
order to reach the affirmation of oneness, every trace of duality must be rigorously rejected; in
other words, VEDANTA asks us to renounce the world of concepts, names and forms. However,
this is very easy to say, but more difficult to practice. It is like seeing the political map of the
world, we can see many borders dividing the world in many different countries, but in reality, if
we observe the world out from space, we do not see those lines/divisions; we see a beautiful round
planet mostly blue from its higher content in water. Those divisions do not exist... Show more

However, many of the worlds irrigation systems are found in arid, semi arid environments,
which climate change will alter significantly in the future (J. D, Connor, Schwabe, K. King, D.

are affected by salinization (Schwabe et al., 2011e). Saline environments tend to hinder
agricultural production by lowering crop yields, often quite substantially. The traditional
response to the threat of salinity induced crop yield reductions is to apply water in excess of
plant requirements so as to leach the salts out of the root zone. (Letey and Dinar, 1986). This
approach becomes particularly problematic in the case of climate change as reduced water
supplies likely in arid and semiarid regions where salinity is an issue work against such a response.
Within the Murray Darling Basin a Panel on Integrated Salinity Management and Farm Forestry

landowners the management team in 2004, launched the Indigo Valley

I take this responsibility very seriously and can t wait to get a staff in place to start our move to
make Illinois a contender for Big Ten titles, Smith said in a statement.
Smith, who is familiar with the state of Illinois after coaching the Bears from 2004 2012 and
leading Chicago to the Super Bowl in 2006, signed a six year, $21 million contract to become
the Illini s head man. While Smith will be a head coach in college for the first time, he has
previous collegiate coaching experience as a defensive assistant at Ohio State, while making stops
at a few other schools. Although Illinois starting quarterback Wes Lunt is returning, the Illini need
to reload on the defensive side of the ball before they can compete in the Big Ten West division.
The lack of minority head coaches in college football is a problem the NCAA is trying to tackle.
Just around 11 percent of FBS head coaches are African American, while about 57 percent of
college football players are black, according to a recent ESPN report. With the hiring of Smith,
Illinois is taking a step in the right direction, looking to get to the top of the Big Ten under his

The Automatic Millionaire Book Report In David Bach s book The Automatic Millionaire, he
reveals to readers a plan that could help them prosper in life financially and retire early without
any financial stress. In the first chapter of his book his introduces to us the McIntyres, a normal
married couple looking to retire early. After talking to the couple, Bach discovers that this is no
regular couple financially. He finds out that this couple owns two homes without any mortgages,
have absolutely no debt and have a net worth of almost two million dollars. He then investigates
why this is so. He finds that the McIntyres have some guidelines that help them. They have goals
instead of budgets, they pay themselves first, watch their latte factor or spending and make their
savings automatic. Chapter 2 describes the latte factor. The latte factor is a term that is used to
describe the unnecessary spending habits that everyone does. Over time these small purchases add
up. Bach gives some tips on how to control it; write down what you spend for a week and see what
you can eliminate from your purchases. With those purchases, instead of spending your money on
them, use the money to put into a savings account. Five dollars a day in a good money market
account with a 10% annual return would add up to $339,073 in 30 years. The latte factor is to help
people realize that they make enough to spend. In chapter 3, Bach gives us

Kellogg s Failure Essay
Introduction
This project report talks about the reasons for the failure of Kellogg s in India and what strategies
it can take up in future to build itself as a brand in India.
Kellogg s created a new category of branded breakfast cereal products throughout the world. Over
the longer period of time, it has successfully been able to change eating habits of consumers and
has converted various nations as corn flakes eating nations. After capturing over 40% US s ready to
eat market in breakfast cereals alone, Kelloggs introduced its flagship products into Indian markets
in 1994. India at that time has over 950 million inhabitants, 250 of whom were middle class.
The Indians found the notion of having cereal as a breakfast a new one as consumers ... Show more

Premium pricing policy
The competitive brands in the market were selling the similar product at 1/3rd price of Kellogg s
and hence Kellogg failed to attract price conscious Indian households. Even after losing its market
share, Kellogg s failed to understand the nuance of Indian market.
4.Wrong promotion
Kellogg in its initial advertisements questioned the nutrition quotient of Indian breakfast and
suggested that Indian food was not very good for health. This deeply offended the emotions of
Indian ladies who had been serving traditional breakfast for ages to their families.
5.Inadequate market research
Kellogg s executives overestimated the target segment of Indian market. They came with the
figure of 950 million people as if everyone eats breakfast in Indian, everyone who eats breakfast
would potentially want to eat corn flakes. What Kellogg didn t know, as Homi Bhabha, director of
Harvard s Faculty of Arts and Sciences Humanities center stated at the time, was that Indians, rather
like the Chinese, think that to start the day with something cold, like cold milk on your cereal, is a
shock to the system. You start it with warm milk. Thus kellogg failed to provide the product that
catered to Indian

Jean Paul Sartre s Existentialist Belief, We Are...
Jean Paul Sartre is a philosopher that supports the philosophy of existentialism. Existentialism is a
twentieth century philosophy that denies any crucial human nature and embraces that each of us
produces our own essence through our free actions. Existentialists like Sartre believe there isn t a
God that determines people s nature. So, existentialists believe that humans have no purpose or
nature except the ones that they create for themselves. We are free and responsible for what we are
and our engagements; even though we are mindful that this can cause agony.
Sartre is one of the constructors of the philosophy of existence that is existentialism. Humans must

There are always options and different paths to take in life; it is just a matter of what one is
chosen by you to take. I don t believe that there is a universal human nature that is shared by all
humans in the universe. Every person is different based upon the events that occur in their lives
and no everyone can experience the same things and take away the same responsibilities. The
actions people take are based off of how they choose to create meaning is what makes them the
kind of person they are. Even if put in a challenging situation people still are responsible for the
decisions made. If you have to choose between things you still are able to choose which makes you
responsible. The person you become is not everything that has happened to you, but it is everything
that has happened and how you choose to act on it.
There are many objections to Sartre s ideas that we are completely free. The question of if our
environment, our bodies, and what we are capable of is already determined then how are we
completely free? What is freedom is there are already determined? Even though these things in
our lives may already be determined, we are more than these things because we create who we are
based off of what we make of ourselves. We find ourselves and who we are by experiences, which
make us our own individual. Even though some things are already determined for us, we can do
with them, as we like. We are free to make of ourselves whatever we would like,

Bill Gates Argumentative Essay
The year was 2000 A.D. there were a lot of amazing things going on some good and some very
bad. Locally at this time the city of Toledo was trying to ban assault rifles, because of the
increase of violence surrounding gangs and gang violence (Toledoblade.com). this is kind of sad
that the world and my home are at war with each other constantly. One of the biggest surprises of
the year was Bill Gates stepping down as CEO of Microsoft, some say it was a very bold move.
Even after that stepdown it did not seem to affect him at all financially, we was still considered

Fecal Microbiota Transplants for the Treatment
Of Clostridium Difficile
Emily Ramirez

Abstract
Fecal transplants have been around for many years; however up until recently it had not been
widely used or accepted as a feasible course of treatment for gastrointestinal complications. Since
approval by the U.S Food and Drug administration in 2013, the method is being thoroughly
researched and tested to entice its use for Clostridium difficile infections. Clostridium difficile is
extremely prevalent in the community and more over in healthcare facilities. The current
treatments that are being used are quiet successful at treating Clostridium difficile, but the
incidence of reoccurrence is fairly high. Fecal microbiota transplants have shown to have a very
high success rate, and a very low reoccurrence rate. There are several ways of performing the
treatment as well as different options for finding donors of the feces, all of which have similar and

Though the majority of Black Dynamite s audience misinterpreted this episode s theme some
audience members, more than The Boondocks, are respectful and actually understands the show s
intent to a certain extent. This may be due to the show having a smaller audience than The

the nigga moment episode uses the N word ten times in the first two minutes of the episode and a
total of fifty times throughout the episode (2005). On the contrary, Black Dynamite hardly uses

Inevitably the kick starter failed and the movie was never made due to fans becoming fearful of
what might be shown on the movie after reading these forums and articles. This resulted in many

Even if the majority of the fans of The Boondocks were aware of this and changed their views of

Holding Out For a Hero
I was really super excited for this trip, words can t explain. I was planning on coming to Cali
soon, but I had to raise money. This trip is all free. I get to go to San Diego, California. Wow. I
had just finished zipping my suitcase when I heard the car horn. The Jacks are here! I smiled
widely already getting butterflies about everything and ran down with my stuff. It was a
struggle, but never stop an ambitious girl who is about to fly to San Diego. I opened my front
door and motioned for one of them to get out of the car and come help with my bags. I only had
one suitcase but it was heavy. I grabbed my carry on and jogged to the car as Johnson grabbed my
suitcase. I made sure that my phone and laptop were fully charged once we were on our way. I
reached into my bag and looked for my books making sure I had brought them. What else am I
supposed to do on the plane?
San Diego is going to be sweet! We re meeting the guys up at the beach after we get there,
Johnson exclaimed and pumped his fist. I giggled at his personality and nodded. I ve always
wanted to go to the beach.
I m so excited guys, you have no idea! I shook my hands, a little habit I do since I was little. My
mom used to tell me to shake off all the nerves, so I d shake my hands, I m so excited for the
beach. The sun, the sand, the water, the bikinis, and the hot guys.

  • 2. Summary Of The R. J Reynolds Tobacco Company s Advertising... Today in American society the social normality of smoking cigarettes is in a rapid decline. It seems with each passing year there are increasing numbers of legislation restricting where people can place advertisement and where smoking is even permitted. Smoking cigarettes for many years was a focal point in American culture projecting the image of this prosperous social status obtainable for everyone. R.J. Reynolds TobaccoCompany, the creators of the Newport Pleasure! Advertisement heavily takes this progressive movement into consideration when creating the illusion that smokingis socially accepted. The R.J Reynolds Tobacco Company s advertising campaign connects the use of logos and pathos extremely and effectively displaying their message. In order to recreate the social normality of smoking advertisers select a wide range of healthy socially active youth, place a campaign slogan that their consumers are unable to miss, and heavily doctor the focal elements of this advertisement. A consumer viewing this advertisement is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Advertisers at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company hold no bounds on the hyperbole used in this advertisement. The logical inference made in the human brain when reading Newport Pleasure! , an exclaimed expression, leaves the impression that pleasure is attained through use of a Newport cigarette. This heavy word play used to entice consumers completely disregards the consequences associated with smoking that certainly are not pleasurable. The effects of smoking like a bright shiny yellow smile and a pungent lingering odor that perforates from consumers skin are actually quite unpleasant. The enticing campaign rhetoric pushes this false reality solely for the purpose of recapturing the once highly aspired social status behind smoking in American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Clay Street Hill Railroad History The first successful cable operated street railway was the Clay Street Hill Railroad, which opened on August 2, 1873. The promoter of the line was Andrew Smith Hallidie, and the engineer was William Eppelsheimer. The line involved the use of grip cars, which carried the grip that engaged with the cable, towing trailer cars; the design was the first to use grips. The term grip became synonymous with the operator. The line started regular service on September 1, 1873, and its success led it to become the template for other cable car transit systems. It was a financial success, and Hallidie s patents were enforced on other cable car promoters, making him wealthy. The next cable car line to open was the Sutter Street Railway, which converted... At its peak, it operated five lines all of which converged into Market Street to a common terminus at the Ferry Building; during rush hours, cars left that terminus every 15 seconds. Telegraph Hill Railroad in San Francisco 1884 1886 The Telegraph Hill Railroad was a funicular railway that operated using two cars permanently attached to a cable. The car going downhill helped to counterbalance the car going uphill. The Telegraph Hill Railroad opened in 1884. It was promoted by Frederick O. Layman. The incline ran along Greenwich Street, from Powell Street to Layman s Pioneer Park Observatory. The observatory was a large resort complex near the present location of Coit Tower. The attraction offered telescopes for the viewing public from which to observe the wonders of the San Francisco Bay and a restaurant. On the roof was a time ball, clearly visible to ships in the Bay. Every day at noon the ball was dropped so that ship s captains could set their chronometers by observing it. The steam engine which drove the cable was in the basement of the pavilion. • 4. Steroid Case Study 1/ What is the difference between the upper and lower respiratory? The respiratory tract is the system that allows you to breathe air into your lungs and back out again. The passageway that air travels through is divided into two sections, the upper respiratory tract, and the lower respiratory tract. The upper respiratory tract includes the nose, throat, voice box (larynx) and upper windpipe (trachea). The lower respiratory tract includes bronchi (the two branches the windpipe divides into as it enters the lungs), bronchioles (even smaller branches of air tubes) and alveoli (the tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles). The air that we breathe is full of germs, so infections of the respiratory tract are very common, especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How does this type of steroid work? They are stopped when asthma has gotten better and other treatments suffice to keep it under control. Longer periods of treatment and continuous treatment with oral steroids are generally avoided except for the most difficult to control asthma because of the undesirable side effects that often develop with prolonged oral steroid ... • 5. The Titanic And The Titanic The Titanic was one of a trio. Her sisters were the Olympic and the Gigantic. These ships were made by the White Star Lines, all of their names ending with ic . The White Star Lines were known for making the top of the line, most luxurious ship liners of their time. The point in making luxurious and fast ship liners were to compete and beat the German ship liners. This ship race between Germany and Britain went clear back to the 1860 s. As Britain kept getting out bested by Germany an American trust builder named Junius Pierpont Morgan saw a chance to make money or a monopoly. Morgan realized the rivalry and had already monopolized U.S railroads, and wanted to to take control over the North Atlantic Shipping Lines. Morgan s first move in 1898 was when he bought the more ran down Inman Line. The owner of the White Star Line, Thomas Ismay, foresaw a big rate war on the North Atlantic and resisted Morgan until his death in 1899. After Ismay s death Morgan jumped at the opportunity to get more control by purchasing a controlling interest from the German lines, Hamburg Amerika and Norddeutscher Lloyd. Just a year later Morgan gained control of the Leyland Line, the Dominion Line, and the Red Star Line. His next targets were the White Star Line, and the Cunard. For competition Morgan cut fares until his lines were a third class passage to America for as little as two euros, ($2.38). J. • 6. Ephesians 3 During the first week the class was divided into eight small groups. Each group was given the task to collectively agree on a common definition on the gospel founded in the Bible. During that time students including myself had to compromise and possible argue their point. As I reflect on the experience of working in a group to provide a working definition for the gospel three things stand out persuasion, pressure, and practice. Persuasion from outside influences mainly NT Wright s book. In my group one of the members was quickly persuaded by Wright i.e. The gospel is news not advise. As christians I think we aren t to be easily persuaded. Ephesians 4 preaches supports this point well. And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Accounting Essay {draw:g} {draw:g} {draw:g} {draw:frame} Introduction Over the years, with the corporate development and social or statutes pressure, some concepts and standards related with audit is uncertainly or ambiguous. The obvious question is whether auditors should be blame when they failing to warn investors to ailing firms financial problems and risks (McNabb, 2009). We all know the story of the Donner Party; They wanted to move west for a better life and a better future, but things went wrong. We all cringe when we think of how they had to or were assumed to have committed cannibalism to survive. But have we ever wondered what would have happened if something had gone another way or if someone had said or done something different? Did the travelers in the Donner Party ever wonder that? Keseburg knew he would not have a good chance of staying so, instead of waiting for them to tell him in the morning, he avoided the whole thing and left in the night. Acute Real Failure The diagnosis of acute renal failure (ARF), also referred to as acute kidney injury (AKI), encompasses a wide ranging continuum of acute renal pathologies that are characterized by sudden deterioration of kidney function. This results in abrupt aberrations in fluid, electrolyte, and acid base balance, nitrogenous waste removal, creatinine clearance, and glomerular filtration rate. ARF or AKI is subdivided into three general categories based on the etiology. Again, aging alone, without the presence of any comorbidities, is associated with an increased susceptibility to ARF. This is due to deterioration of renal blood flow with age and consequent decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). This is probably because, with these changes, there... Because of the loss of this potassium gradient, excitable cells become hypopolarized, and are therefore less responsive to stimuli (action potentials). This results in muscle weakness and flaccid paralysis that progresses in an ascending pattern. The main concern with hyperkalemia is its implication on the cardiac system (Copstead Banasik, 2013). Hyperkalemia that exceeds 6.0 mEq/L can be fatal because of its depressant effects on myocardial activity. This is demonstrated on an ECG tracing with the disappearance of the P wave, extended T wave and QRS segment, and depressed ST segment. Should this happen, the client is an emergent situation and immediate measures must be taken to reduce serum potassium to prevent cardiac arrest (Osborn, et al. 2014). Zarae Allen Mrs.Willard Honors Biology 1December 2016 Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy disease (MNGIE) is an extremely rare disease that affects the process of muscles and shows up in equal numbers of men and women. Only 70 cases of this disease have been reported. A mutation of the thymidine phosphorylase causes MNGIE and lowers the production of adenosine triphosphate production. To begin, mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy disease is related to adenosine triphosphate because it lowers the production. In a case report on Hindawi called Anesthetic Management of a Child with Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy it states, These mutations can result in a decrease in ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation in the respiratory chain found in the mitochondria, affecting tissues that have high energy demands including cardiac, nervous, and skeletal muscle tissue. An enzyme called thymidine phosphorylase, mutates affecting how ATP is made. As a result, it affects the muscle cells of the organism because people with this disorder do not have enough energy to move their muscles in their body. Also, in Genetic Home Reference that had the topic of MNGIE, it reads ... the muscles and nerves of the digestive system do not move food through the digestive tract efficiently. Personally, I realized the prevalence of eating disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or skipped meals in order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would assume, younger children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments. Realizing the problem, I decided that I would create a program that would educate younger children regarding the seriousness and effects of eating disorders. Before designing the program, I researched for weeks in order to find facts and statistics concerning eating disorders in the United States. The research proved that disorders begin in children as young as age seven or eight. Additionally, pre teenagers predominantly suffer from eating disorders. The research also showed that countless victims remain unnoticed due to a reluctance to tell an adult. Peers lack the education to recognize a presented disorder. In order to curb the problem, pre teens need to be taught how to identify a disorder and how to aid a friend. To educate the pre teens, I developed a program called I Like Me Because. It will come up as an error if you try and then that is when you notice your mistake. Benefits Having a relational database will greatly reduce the data redundancy because it will get rid of the repeated data within a database. This is done by going through the normalisation process and therefore since there is less data in the database it is much faster access, searching data, updating data, sorting and reporting. Stages of normalisation The steps of normalisation will be fully explained in the following steps: Firstly you need to turn this into a unormalised table by: Create column headings for the table for each data item on the report and ignore any calculated ... First, there have been no consistent and effective policies to make private investment in agriculture more attractive due to persistently low productivity. As a result, the bulk of the investment in agriculture has been from state resources. The concepts of raceversus skin color and genderversus sex will be the primary focal points of this writing. For the scientific perspective, data will be used from the works of both D. These are both subject matter experts in their chosen fields of study. For the cultural perspective, I will primarily use my own experiences and observations to show the dichotomy between how culture and science view human variation. This dichotomy is especially apparent in both race vs physical appearance and gender vs sex, which are often highly debated and publicized topics in today s world. In the following paragraphs I will highlight a few of those disagreements. I have always believed that skin color is simply the color of a person s skin, and while it can tell you where their ancestors came from, it is not a determinate that can tell you how they will act, think or their basic intelligence level. • 24. Cultural Values And The Dominant Culture When looking to understand one s culture in comparison to the dominant culture it is important to take into consideration a variety of cultural values. In comparing myself to the dominant culture in the United States I have found both similarities as well as differences between my worldviews and the majority worldview. In order to fully assess how I have come to acquire my worldviews it is important to look into contextual and circumstantial factors that have shaped me as an individual. American culture values individualism where putting yourself first is seen as the norm. In comparison, Hispanic cultures value the family, or a group dynamic, rather than each person as an individual entity (Kirst Ashman, 2013, p. 457). I am close with my family and value the family dynamic we have as a group; however, I believe that I must first take care of myself in order to be able to help out others. In addition, competition is valued by dominant American culture. In America winning is everything (Scott, 2015). Although I value individualism, I am the least competitive person I know. I believe that this stems from placing value on myself for myself (and well being) rather than for others or in comparison to others. When focusing on the individual it is easy to place high importance upon one s status within society. American culture places high value upon credentials, titles, roles, and material possessions that create each person s power status. It would be absurd for me to say that my ... Costing and Pricing Decisions Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS Costing and Pricing Decisions Cost Allocations Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect costs can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to calculate fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately. Three common costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs and opportunity costs (Jiambalvo, 2007). Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs. A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about the company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if they are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The last way Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine the opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based on sunk costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on being able to price their future products appropriately. Opportunity Costs An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of this would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying your credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a result of not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo, 2007). Whereas a tree can be defined as an acyclic graph that is connected. The edges of a graph are assigned with some numerical valuethat may represent the distance between the vertices, the cost or the time etc. that is why it is called aweighted graph. The first element has to do with genuineness, realness, or congruence. The more the therapist is him or herself in the relationship, putting up no professional front or personal facade, the greater is the likelihood that the client will change and grow in a constructive manner. Hydrogen bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it occurs between hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole dipole bond. A dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that the bond between hydrogen and oxygenin a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of covalent bond is the bond between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we will observe is solubility, the lab mentions. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water on a piece of parafilm; we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread apart, we will be explaining our observations. We will then, repeat the same experiment, however instead of parafilm we will use a glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water molecules and the adhesion between the water and glass slide. • 41. Richard Cory By Edward Arlington Robinson Kevin Kovacs ENGL 102 007 Professor Estes December 10, 2015 An Unexpected End Richard Cory , by Edward Arlington Robinson is a narrative poem about how a collective group of people perceive a man of high status. The townspeople look up to Richard Cory and strive to be just like him. For the most part, the poem itself is quite basic and somewhat uneventful. However, the reasons I take an interest in the poem are based on Robinson s decision to write the poem so plainly, the phrases used to describe Richard Cory, and the shocking finale. Once the reader begins to really analyze the poem it is apparent that it was not written in a very complex or thought provoking manner. Throughout the poem, we are only told how Richard Cory was perceived through the eyes of the town. The reader never gets to learn anything about Richard Cory from himself. I feel that the contrast between how the poem sounds and what ultimately happens in the end really gives this poem its meaning. Ultimately, Richard Cory is a poem about how one man can have it all and yet still feel alone. Despite his effort to normalize himself by visiting the town, he was still seen as the outsider. • 42. Venesta Vs Covenanta Analysis We can t run away from life because we are that life; and that life exist and it is real, we can experience it according to TANTRA. So TANTRA uses this and reverses this cycle. One difference I find is that TANTRA suggests transformation of anything or any non thing that binds /contract us. For example attachment to our body or ego believing that we are that body or that we are that ego. So in TANTRA, the body and all the things , non things and the energies of life are fully respected because they are considered manifestations of the Divine, and the Divine resides within them, we are also that Divine. The body is not good or bad, it is something to be transcended. On the other hand, VEDANTA suggests a direct experience of transcending anything or any non thing as opposed to transformation because there is nothing to be transformed. We are already that oneness, pure consciousness, Brahman, the Absolut. The method of non dualistic VEDANTA is to negate all things or non things , which VEDANTA calls unreal, until one sees nothing, but Brahman, or pure and undifferentiated consciousness. In order to reach the affirmation of oneness, every trace of duality must be rigorously rejected; in other words, VEDANTA asks us to renounce the world of concepts, names and forms. However, this is very easy to say, but more difficult to practice. It is like seeing the political map of the world, we can see many borders dividing the world in many different countries, but in reality, if we observe the world out from space, we do not see those lines/divisions; we see a beautiful round planet mostly blue from its higher content in water. He finds out that this couple owns two homes without any mortgages, have absolutely no debt and have a net worth of almost two million dollars. He then investigates why this is so. He finds that the McIntyres have some guidelines that help them. They have goals instead of budgets, they pay themselves first, watch their latte factor or spending and make their savings automatic. Chapter 2 describes the latte factor. The latte factor is a term that is used to describe the unnecessary spending habits that everyone does. Over time these small purchases add up. Bach gives some tips on how to control it; write down what you spend for a week and see what you can eliminate from your purchases. With those purchases, instead of spending your money on them, use the money to put into a savings account.
