Cultivating Curiosity through Questioning
Humans are naturally curious beings, but as Sir Ken Robinson suggests, schools may have unintentionally squashed out the creativity and inquisitive nature of many of students. While ubiquitous digital devices provide us with the opportunity to find the answer to almost any question, many students struggle to find accurate information online. Now more than ever, we must teach our students to be critical consumers of the information that they encounter. Together we will explore and construct technology resources designed to engage students’ curiosity and learn ways to compose better questions for application and synthesis.
Whatever your “title,” you are a mentor. You want to help young people to see themselves as strong and capable, but sometimes you get so distracted by the deficits in their lives – difficult home life, unsupportive teachers, disruptive behavior, self-defeating attitudes, systems that don’t always work - that it is hard to see where the strengths are.
This presentation was a part of the May 3, 2012 Alberta Mentoring Partnership Webinar with Chris Trout. Chris will shares his research and stories in a “real life” way that will change the way you see the young people in your life and work. Then, he walks you through some practical strategies to help you recognize and grow these strengths, while still challenging them and holding them accountable for their actions.
You will…
Gain a deep and practical understanding of why our strengths are the key to resiliency and success - not just in theory, but in action.
Explore the art of seeing through “deficits” to the underlying strengths.
Learn to communicate and grow these strengths - specifically, authentically and effectively - and help kids and families see themselves as strong, capable and resource rich.

Banish Your Inner Critic: Reduce Anxiety and Unblock Creativity - Emergent Le...Denise Jacobs
The Inner Critic is the main source of our biggest blocks to perform at our best. Fortunately, there are simple and effective ways to banish the inner critic in order to do our best work as contributors, collaborators, and leaders.
First, you’ll discover the three mental power tools that you already possess to stop the inner critic in its tracks. Then you’ll learn methods for dealing with the fear of being judged and criticized, how to transform highly critical self-talk into that of approval and encouragement, and ways to feel like your ideas are good enough and stop committing “ideacide.”
By the end, you’ll have a roadmap of how to get unstuck, do your best work, and channel your creativity as a force for positive change in the world.
Banish Your Inner Critic – Stanford HCI Group 2020Denise Jacobs
During these unprecedented times, we are particularly susceptible to The Inner Critic, that voice of self-doubt that tells us that we aren't doing enough and that everyone is more successful and productive during the pandemic than we are. Fortunately, there are effective ways to manage the inner critic so that we can be better to ourselves and still show up powerfully.
In this session, Denise will share useful and effective tools to decrease the levels of anxiety. We'll also look at ways to tone down the tendency to compare ourselves with others (or to an unreachable "ideal"), ways to reframe language and transform self-talk to be more supportive, and tactics to overcome impostor syndrome, perfectionism, and unblock creativity.

We live in an age of abundance. Over 1 million new books are published every year and that's just in the English language. In total more than 30 million books are available on Amazon to buy. The choice facing any reader is enormous.
How does an author or publisher make their book stand out and facilitate readers discovering them? This workshop gives a few tools and tips on how to make books more discoverable.
The slides are the omnibus version of an 8-part workshop at the Digital Book World workshop “Discovery & Discoverability – Finding and Growing an Audience” held at Hilton Midtown in New York City on Tuesday 13th January 2015.
Here is a not so secret method for how to be successful at anything. Practice it every day. But there's more to sustaining this than repeating it for 10,000 hours. That's boring. We have something in the DS106 Open Digital Storytelling course that has helped people improve their creativity and imagination. The Daily Create is modeled the defunct Daily Shoot, which offered a daily challenge designed to help people practice their photography skills. For over two years, the ds106 Daily Create has offered a daily creative prompt in written, photographic, drawing, audio, and video form. These challenges are now to no stake and encourage participants to try things that may have never done before. What makes this different from exercising or learning to play the saxophone is that the Daily Create is fun, open, and generates connections between people around the world. And you can modify the same approach for any subject.

Speaking to People: The Strategist’s Secret WeaponOpen Strategy
'My secret weapon for developing and selling a strategic narrative' by Loz Horner at Lucky Generals. 1/3 of the second 'School of Planning' event on Strategic Narrative.
On 4th September 2015, the IPA gathered Byron Sharp, Russell Davies, Les Binet, Paul Feldwick and more for a day of intense marketing "Unlearning". This presentation condenses each speaker’s main points into a one-slider, then attempts to make sense of the whole thing.
I might be naive, but for all the heated debate that happened on the day, I thought everyone was actually in violent agreement (basically, I agree with Les Binet and Jim Carroll, which feels like a pretty good place to be).
So here’s what I've taken out of the event:
> The debate between people who see brand building as an art, and those who see it as a science, has gone on for years. It’s been exacerbated in the recent years by the parallel rise of Big Data and Behavioural Science, all powered by the digital transformation of certain categories - but it’s not new.
> All the evidence points to the fact that it’s actually a mix of both emotional and rational, long-term and short-term, brand building and sales driving strategies that drives the best results.
> So, to grow your brand, think about to a) removing barriers to usage or purchase by ensuring your product/ service works very well and is widely available, then b) making your product or service really sticky by creating memorable assets/ features that are distinctive and salient.

Lectures 15 and 16 - Escape into the Metaverse - 26 April 2022.pptxFahri Karakas
ART DESCRIPTION/SYNOPSIS: "THE BORING LECTURE"
“Curiosity and creativity are the new productivity.”
Despite the abundance of entertainment media at the touch of our fingertips, we easily feel bored these days and we desperately want to escape from our mundane lives. Boredom strikes us particularly hard when we feel trapped by endless tasks, responsibilities, habits, and routines in our lives. We want to escape and immerse ourselves in new worlds – perhaps worlds that are more colorful, exciting, rich, and novel. We seek adventures to save us from all the baggage, drudgery, stress, and anxiety that surrounds us.
‘The Boring Lecture’ invites you to new possibilities and exciting life strategies to escape from boredom. It takes a bit of imagination, courage, and experimentation to get out of boredom (the rut). We will try to escape monotony and mediocrity through embracing uncertainty, curiosity, and wonder.
Towards this goal, we take on a cross-disciplinary tour and explore geeks, mavericks, eccentric artists, weirdoes, crazy entrepreneurs, inventors, dreamers, mind-expanding authors, and insane filmmakers.
As we travel from the sublime to the ridiculous, we will expand our sense of what is possible. Asteroids, stars, black holes, computer games, books, movies, and of course, the Metaverse will accompany us on our wonderful journey.
We will travel through our body, our mind, our sleep, and our dreams. We will try to solve two dozens of mini-puzzles and we will experiment with a dozen of mini-learning adventures. We will explore future disruptive innovations and potential trillionaire sectors. We will learn about the new gold rush: The space economy.
Finally, we will fly through space and land on Mars. We will learn about the Mars Generation and imagine what daily life might look like at the red planet.
This will be a wild tour – far from boring - are you ready?

own

on Pinterest is like a stranger telling you their life
story on an elevator.

for an Internet Graveyard segment.

Post a Reddit link to the best (with no irony)

– WTF didn’t work too well
– Could have tried humor but I didn’t want to risk making the board seem ironic

many dream catcher-related questions as possible in a
single week.

and he makes not knowing stuff and figuring it out
intuitively seem really cool
• Einstein said the intuitive were a gift to mankind

W+K epitomizes a wholesome goofball character
who is probably smarter than you but also
willing to act more foolish.
My goal is to embody the values of W+K in my work.

• Epic, but not gooberish
• Moving, not melodramatic
• Uncanny, never desperate
• Hilarious, never crass
• Memorable, not controversial

my intellectual vacuity.
Although Nate Smith is pretty cool and now
we’re internet buddies so that’s good.
