Jakarta is the city that has the highest rate of gridlock in Indonesia. Even
though, a long time ago there was no gridlock in Jakarta because Jakartans
used to love to walk. The city had large parks, big trees, fewer cars and less
pollution. Until the early 1990s it was still very, very pleasant, but after that
we started to see a lot of these superblocks, tall buildings, hotels,
apartments which basically eliminated all the green space available.

Jakarta is getting
worse because
as more
Jakartans move
into the middle
class “the first
thing they do is
buy a motorbike
or a car”

Since 1990 until this time, the traffic in Jakarta is getting worse because as
more Jakartans move into the middle class“the first thing they do is buy a
motorbike or a car”. So this is going to become a big, big problem.

After decades of inaction, the Indonesian and Jakarta governments have launched
overlapping projects: a metro system, light rail, 900 new buses this year, an electronic
road toll pricing system, an airport link, flyovers, six road corridors and limits on
motorcycles. Yet even the most optimistic estimates suggest those projects will
reduce Jakarta’s traffic by just 30 per cent. The city’s governor admits it could take up
to 40 years to fully overcome the congestion. Many Jakartans believe traffic worsened
in July after the scrapping of the three-in-one traffic system along arterial roads. It did
so to wipe out the “jockeys”. But that regulation didn’t work well because the
Jakartans are tricky so that they can fool over the regulation.
So the idea of moving capital to escape gridlock is the most effective way to realize.
The other way to escape gridlock is by changing the Jakartan’s mindset. Jakartans
shouldn’t think that buying motorbike is the important one and can increase their
prestige. We should tell them that by buying a lot of vehicles can make gridlock in
Jakarta and Jakarta will be worse. Therefore, the mindset is about care for the
environment

There is better land for the
capital instead of Jakarta
that has no gridlock and
has large area.

We agree with the idea by moving the
capital to escape a gridlock. Because in
indonesia there is better land for the
capital instead of jakarta that far from
traffic jam and has large area. as we
know, lately there was some rumors that
goverments already prepared
palangkaraya to be the new capital of
indonesia. also, by the idea of moving
capital, indonesia can solve many
problem that threathening jakarta. maybe
that is can be the most effective way and
the best solution

Moving capital to escape gridlock may
take so much effort, time, and money to
realization. that's why until now
government still try to find and still
consider the other way and didn't do that
idea yet. after all, if we do that idea, we
should think about all the ministry office
that we should be moved together with
the capital. because the capital is the
center of the country where all the
bussines and the economic stuff is take
place. so that if we do that idea, there so
many unpredictable risk that may come
