2. The Importance of Usability and User Experience Research
Usability matters because if a user cannot achieve their goals efficiently and effectively, they are likely to
seek an alternative solution to reach their goals.
if product is not usable, it’s UX is bad and they will use other products.
Then, designer makes products and service based on the five characteristics of usable products.
1. Effectiveness
2. Efficiency
3. Engaging
4. Error Tolerance
5. Easy to Learn
3. The Key principles of Smart City Design
Smart City optimise technologies in the design and operation of infrastructure, buildings and services for
meeting needs of the current and future citizens.
And, Smart City require consideration of governance and growth, urban development and
infrastructure, the environment and natural resources, society and community.

5. Show your prototype design model sections with arrows and captions
Aizuwakamatsu is snowy city.
So, it is difficult for us to walk on sidewalk in the winter.
Then, we suggest “Heating Road” for melting the snow.

Heating Road
7. Show your prototype design model sections with arrows and captions
“Heating Road” has sensor measuring
weight for the snow.
When it is so snowy that it is difficult to
walk, the sensor turns on heating for
melting the snow.
And, the sensor turns off heating when it is
easy to sidewalk on for us.
8. Analyze your Smart City Prototype Model in context of KPI - Talk about what
you could and could not design.
Tomoki Miura’s opinion...
In my opinion, It is good idea.
But, I think that the sensor may operate wrongly because the sensor also measure weight of people.
So, improvement of accuracy of it is needed because of realizing “heating road”.
9. Analyze your Smart City Prototype Model in context of KPI - Talk about what
you could and could not design.
Yuta Koseki’s opinion...
I think that is a good idea.
I think that it can be used not only in Aizuwakamatsu but also in snowy areas around Japan and I think that
we can create an environment that is easy to spend even in winter.
10. Analyze your Smart City Prototype Model in context of KPI - Talk about what
you could and could not design.
Satsuki Kawahara’s opinion...
I think it is a nice idea. I have live in Aizu for 2 years.
I feel roads is hard to walk by snow in winter.
It will be helpful for people the system.
And, To react with a sensor is good because it is bad in environment when switched on the system.
11. Why did you select this app and why do you think it suits and could be
successfully used in a smart city context?
・Our group has chosen the app called "Taxi all over Japan".
・If you choose this app, you can call taxi at any time, and you
will not waste your time, which is also important in smart situations.
・Also, if you have registered your settlement in advance, you can use the taxation without paying the money
there.
12. Why did you select this app and why do you think it suits and could be
successfully used in a smart city context?
・I think that this application will play an important role in creating an environment
where it is more convenient to use in the field of taxis, even if smart city is
proceeding.
13. Heuristic Evaluation of the Smart City Apps
・Convenience : You can always call a taxi on one smartphone.
・Cashless : If you register for credit settlement beforehand, you will not have to pay
money on the spot.
・Speed : If you call me a taxi will come soon.
14. Heuristic Evaluation of the Smart City Apps
・When I actually used it by myself, the taxi arrived at once and sometimes waited
over 10 minutes.
・As a future task, I felt it was necessary to work well with a taxi company.
15. Discuss how well the apps would fit in the context of Fukushima
revitalization
“Ultraman AR stamp rally in Fukushima” is released in 2017.
By using this app, we are able to take a picture ultraman or the monster on specific spots in Fukushima(
Turugajo and Iizaka onsen and so on) with AR.
When the participant takes a picture in 5 spots, they get limited goods of ultraman.
Ultraman is popular in not only Japan but also world.
So, we think that many people visit Fukushima.
16. Discuss a successful example of a current Smart City Model in the world
In this section, we will give “Yokohama Smart City Project”as example of Smart City Model in the world.
● Yokohama had air pollution problem caused by doubling the population in. 20 years.
● For solving the problem, Yokohama launched YSCP(Yokohama Smart City Project) adopted solar
panel for house and EV experimentally.
● Then, Yokohama succeeded in reducing Co2 emissions by 29%.

17. Is Tokyo a Smart City? - Discuss with reasoning
We think Tokyo is not Smart City.
And, we have two reasons why Tokyo is not Smart City.
First,Shibuya-ku and Shinjuku-ku( ward of tokyo) is not clean in order to bad smell for leaving some
garbage around the road.
18. Is Tokyo a Smart City? - Discuss with reasoning
Second, tokyo has complex a lot of lines.(yamanote line and keihin tohoku line and so on...)
And, Shinjuku station has 8 exit and its location is hard to find.
19. Which big city in Japan is well suited to be a Smart City?
We think Sendai city is suitable for Smart City.
The reason is here...
● Sendai is liveable city because the city is cool in the summer and has few snow in the winter.
● And, we think that Sendai will become more liveable city in order to improving quality of life by smart
infrastructure.
20. Conclusion - What did you learn from the assignment?
With huge money and technique, Smart City could be realizable.
But, we think that it would be NOT successful.
Because, we should consider not only them but also natural resource and community of the city and so
on.
