Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Literary Devices
E.E. Cummings uses many different literary devices throughout Anyone Lived in
a Pretty How Town, to explain the setting, as well as the tone of the piece. By
using devices such as imagery, rhymes, and metonymy, Cummings creates the
illusion of a pleasant town, that experiences many seasons together, and is
eventually plagued by a death of a town member. Cummings chooses his diction
carefully in order to make sure the audience is getting the right appearance of the
town, he does so by choosing colorful words that will allow the audience to
imagine the town and it s people. By using phrases such as, Women and men(both
little and small) it shows that the townspeople are very much the same, all small, all
little, not much variation between them. stars rain sun moon(and only the snow can
begin to explain how children are apt to forget to remember with up so floating
many bells down) Phrases such as this also represent the changing of seasons, as
well as the passing of time. Cummings uses these to describe the appearance of the
town, as well as to express time changes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the rhyming keeps the poem sounding light and airy, the words within the
rhymes hold a deeper meaning. anyone lived in a pretty how town(with up so
floating many bells down) The poem tells the sad story of a person referred to as
anyone who lived in a pretty town, where there are many bell like objects floating
down, either the sounds coming from a church bell, or bell shaped flowers.
Eventually Anyone dies, and he is left to be buried by the people of the town that
he obviously does not have a close relationship with, all by all and deep by deep
and more by more they dream their sleep The use of rhyme helps to conceal the dark
meaning of the poem from the audience and it is used effectively throughout to mask
the ominous and sad tone of the

Corporate Sustainability And The Social, Environmental

Executive Summary This report explores corporate sustainability and the social,
environmental and financial performance of International Paper Company. Today we
see a growing momentum to reduce carbon footprints and co create new social and
economic structures. (http://www.interfaceglobal.com/ Company/Leadership Team
/Ray Watch. aspx) Sustainabilityconsists of environmental and social performance as
well as financial performance. Companies which can incorporate these strong values
and cultures are becoming more the norm than not. Many studies now show that most
companies have adapted some form of sustainability with some doing so at a higher
level than others. In a study by Robert G. Eccles and George Serafeim, they compared
ninety companies that they considered to be high sustainability companies and 90
companies that they considered to be low sustainability companies were compared.
The findings of their 18 year time frame showed that the high sustainability
companies outperformed the low sustainability companies in the stock market and
financially. This only occurred in a long term plan. Therefore companies who want
results in the short term might not see the results they want immediately. (Eccles and
Serafeim) In today s society corporations have a responsibility to the environmentas
well as to making a profit. A range of social and environmental issues and what is
expected of the modern day corporation will be discussed along
Essay on Happiness and Drought
It is interesting to think about why our ancestors decided to include the pursuit of
happiness as an American s unalienable right, as opposed to the previously
considered, right to land. To live a life without happiness, it seemed to them, is to
live a life without meaning. Edgar Lee Masters poems commonly reflect on the
quality, or lack thereof, of happiness in the afterlife of dead countrymen (and
women). The diction, word choice and imagery in Fiddler Jones by Masters
expresses the seemingly inherent joy of a lackadaisical man as well as the value of
perspectives and the ability to posit happiness over fortune and land.
As many of Master s poems in his Spoon River Anthology, the title Fiddler Jones
refers to a man who is not only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the poem begins by talking generally about the fundamental process of
life, lines 3 and 4 bring an individual to the stage in which the poem is set forth. This
is done by introducing the art of fiddle playing and the skill that such a feat requires.
A skill is a tenet that sets apart an individual from a general crowd. It is something
that one may seek pleasure from and it is here that the speaker of the poem creates
this separation the individual.
And if the people find you can fiddle,
Why, fiddle you must, for all your life. (ll. 3 4)
At this point we are being advised by the speaker that if we have a skill we must
use it for the rest of our lives. But it also says that if people find you can fiddle,
which suggests a communal aspect. This skill that sets one apart also makes them
a part of a community that cherishes the skill which one has acquired. This further
contributes to the meaning on the poem because this is the point in which we are
given insight into the speaker s philosophy. This belief being that if one is good at
something it should fully encompass their being for the duration of one s life, thus
rendering it a passion that becomes as a part of living as breathing itself. This leads
into the next lines where we are now required to consider value as a component in
distinguishing divergent perspectives. The point in which perspectives diverge
happens in lines 4 and 5, where Master s imagery is employed to depict the scene of a
European Union Foreign Policy In A Changing World
Summary
The second edition of Karen E Smith s book European Union Foreign Policy in a
Changing World is another installation of the series started in 2003. The second
installation is an update and expansion in which she offers a crisp and different
outlook on the intricacies of the contemporaneous European Union s foreign policy.
Karen expounds on EU foreign policy by not only examining what the European
Unionis but also what it does. The book has nine chapters that delve into different
aspects of the European Union policy but all focusing on the union s foreign policy
objectives.
In the introduction chapter, Karen introduces the five pivotal foreign policy
objectives that the European Union strives to achieve. These are:

The European Coal and Steel Community body was created post war second world
war not only to achieve peace but also to solve the economic difficulties that the
countries were facing. To achieve this, six countries agreed t the Treaty of Paris in
effect forming an area of free trade. The book also looks at the the European
Economic Community, a body created in 1958 to build a common market that had no
tariffs or bottlenecks to the movement of goods and labor. This chapter looks at the
transformation of the European Union through a number of political reforms and is
depicted through the evolution of three distinct pillars:the European Communities,
The Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the The Justice and Home
Affairs (JHA) Council. This evolution is tracked to what Smith describes as the world
s largest unified market and trading bloc that conducts economic and trading relations
with virtually every country (Smith, 21).
The next chapter looks at the policy instruments that are available to the European
Union. These policy instruments are economic, diplomatic and military. In the
evaluation of each of these policy instruments Smith looks at certain policy tools are
assessed. Some of the policy tools that are evaluated under economic instruments are
trade and cooperation agreements with third world countries, development aid to
those countries is evaluated, regional associations are also presented coupled with

The Open Window Short Story
Short Story Essay From a young age, society teaches people to always tell the truth,
as lies can bring themselves, or other people harm. However, experience teaches
people that telling lies is a lot easier than telling the truth, especially when those lies
seem to be insignificant. The short stories, Like the Sun and The Open Window
exemplify situations in which the truthis detrimental to others feelings, and a
situation in which lying is damaging to one s life. Although both telling the truth and
telling lies can be harmful to one s life or feelings to a certain degree, lying causes
more damage than telling the truth. Sekhar from, Like the Sun and Vera from, The

This lie permanently damages his life because he will now be too scared to even
leave his house, since his fear of meeting new people is even greater. Had Vera
been truthful to Framton about her aunt, he would have no reason to leave the
house. This story is just one example of the subversive effects of lying, but it
clearly shows how just one lie can change someone s life for the worst, as Framton
would be getting the crucial treatment he needs if Vera had not lied to him. In all
situations, telling the truth is better than lying, even though it may be more
difficult. For example, many people tell a copious amount of white lies every day,
because it is either easier than telling the truth, or they want to spare other people s
feelings. In Like the Sun , Sekhar is aware of the amount of white lies people tell
every day, and conducts an experiment to evaluate whether or not these white lies
are necessary in everyday life. He challenges himself to go one whole day with only
telling the absolute truth, and does not let anyone know of his plan. He believes that,
Truth...is like the sun...no human being can ever look it straight in the face without
blinking or being dazed. (Narayan 81), meaning that the truth is necessary, but
sometimes hard for people to bear. His day starts off with his wife being mad at him
because he tells her that the

Puberty And Its Effect On The Family
When discussing puberty, there have been several studies covering the effects of the
onset, timing and duration of puberty. This article reviewed the timing of puberty and
its effect on the family unit. This article defined the timing of puberty as one of three
categories, early onset, on time or late maturer. The need for further research in this
area was necessary because previous studies often contradicted each other. This
particular study was completed using participants that were white, highly educated
and from upper middle class families with one parentand one adolescent from each
familyparticipating. The study tried to use equal numbers of fathers and mothers
as much as possible but complete equality was not always possible because more
mothers participated than fathers. The adolescents were between the ages of 10
and 17 years old and were various stages of puberty. Each adolescent was assessed
based on their visible signs of secondary sex features such as facial hair, hip width,
height, weight and chest development. They were then divided into the three pubertal
timing categories previously mentioned with over 70% of the adolescents being on
time maturers, and a relatively equal number of boys and girls.
Both the parent and child were given a questionnaire. Parents were instructed to
complete the questionnaire with no help from their child or spouse. The adolescents
were given questionnaires in a group setting and all questionnaires were returned

The Rhetorical Situation Summary
In his article, The Rhetorical Situation, Lloyd Bitzer defines and elaborates on
rhetorical situation. He writes, Rhetorical situation may be defined as a complex of
persons, events, objects, and relations presenting an actual or potential exigence
which can be completely or partially remove if discourse, introduced into the
situation, can so constrain human decision or action as to bring about the significant
modification of the exigence (6). To put it simply, a rhetorical situation is some
response to a certain situation (Bitzer 3). Bitzer also explains that there are three parts
to any rhetorical situation: the exigence, the audience, and the constraints. These
three components exist before any discourse is created or presented (6.)
On July 27th, 2016, Avalon lifeguardEmily Blake sent a message to the other
members of the Avalon staff, informing them that she could not work her assigned
shift due to other commitments that she needed to attend to. Following Bitzer s
definition, Emily s message in response to this complication is a response to a
rhetorical situation. When composing her response, Emily had the choice of what
method of communication she would use and with who she would communicate.
Because of the decisions she made regarding these two matters, Emily s response to
the rhetorical situation was an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

meet the needs to be able to do so are other current Avalon lifeguards. To put it as

discourse and of being mediators of change (7). Had Emily mentioned her scheduling
conflict to a friend or family member, though they may have sympathized with her,
there was nothing that they could do to
Summary Of The Legend Of Sleepy Hallow Essay
The short story is a comical ghost story that introduces Sleepy Hollows most
famous supernatural phenomenon the Headless Horseman, which is thought to be a
Hessian soldier who lost his head to a cannon ball while in the Revolutionary War.
Is the Headless Horseman really a dead Hessian soldier or just a random citizen
pulling a prank? Also, how effective was the Headless Horsemancharacter to the
readers? In this short storyThe Legend of Sleepy Hallow the Headless Horseman is
most often seen riding by a church where historians from the area are buried.
People believe the reason the Headless Horseman always rides by there is because
he is in search of his lost head from the Revolutionary War. When a school master
named Ichabod Cranehears about the Headless Horseman; he becomes intrigued
about the story, primarily because his favorite book is Wonders of the Invisible
World which is a supernatural book so of course he believes the Headless
Horseman story. Ichabod is a cruel teacher that barely makes any money and the
narrator describes him as having a huge nose with a long neck and giant hands. (
Legend of Sleepy Hollow 43) Ichabod Crane falls in love with one of his students
named Katrina Van Tassel who is only eighteen. Brom Van Brunt or also called
Brom Bones is known for his personality, love of pulling pranks and his horseback
riding skills; he is also in love with Katrina. Brom and has scared away countless men

Factory Working Conditions Of Bangladesh
Factory Working Conditions In Bangladesh Does it take a catastrophic event for the
factories in Bangladesh to become know for the harsh working conditions? Most
Americans don t understand, nor do Americans see how the factories and sweatshop
workers are affected by the unsafe environments, the illegal use of children, and the
minimal pay with no compensation. Americans take for granted the pay received,
and the type of working conditions that are set in order to for the business to operate.
Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set in
place don t completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a
hazardous environmentthe workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits.
The working environments and conditions in Bangladesh are not only harsh, but
unsafe, and the workers are under compensated for the conditions.
Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to
operate in. There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in
Bangladesh. In Bangladesh alone some of the most catastrophic work hazards happen
in the factories. In

Essay about A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings
A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings
Linda Hogan writes in her preface to Dwellings that there is a terrestrial intelligence
that lies beyond our human knowing and grasping. This is the main point that is
constantly reiterated throughout the book, and this is the point that makes the book
so important.
The trouble with the earth today is that humans have become too smart; so smart that
they question everything they once took for granted, and being unable to explain it,
discount it as unreal. Science, the very thing that has catapulted us into our present
state of greatness, is also the human evil that has isolated us from everything we ...

Consider even our connotations with the word environment. Today, the word means
nature, the wild, the earth, our failing ecosystem. Is this really our environment? We
are so removed from it that most people cannot stand to be in it, except to view its
anomalies like those at Yellowstonefrom isolation tank like recreational vehicles.
Hogan takes things that happen in the human sphere and turns them inside out,
showing us the sociological innards that expose the enormous distance between what
we know and what we think we know. Her example of chimpanzees shows us
something scientists have been trying to hide. In teaching them sign language, we
realize they have feelings, opinions, and know what s going on around them. They
aren t just like ignorant babies with an instinct to eat and mate. People frequently
make exceptions for their dogs. They believe their dogs understand what they tell
them, that their dogs care what kind of dog food they get, that they feel jealousy
when the cat gets attention. Imagine if people felt this kind of empathy and respect
to every species on the planet. Hogan deliberately picks out animals that are
displeasing to most people, bats, snakes, wolves, maggots, ants, and writes about
them as living, loving animals just like the rest of us. They are aware of the process
that we have long forgotten.
I was thinking about birds the other day. There were several of them feeding at my

Archimedes Contributions
Archimedes was a greek scientist, mathematician and inventor. He was best known
for shouting Eureka naked across the street when he understood the principal that the
volume of water displaced is equal to the water that rose. His inventions spanned
across many different industries and has helped sped up the pace of innovation in
those following industries. However, one of the most impressive aspect about him
was that his inventions completely altered the way warfare was fought. Firstly, to
defend the Romans off when Syracuse was fighting the second punic war, Archimedes
invented war machines that were effective and require significantly lesser amount of
work. Next, his inventions were ahead of its time and many of his inventions are still

The grappling hook would hook the enemy ship when they approach and grab
them up the air only to toss them down back to the sea, destroying and sinking the
ship. The enemies of Archimedes had no chance to respond to a huge hand shaped
hook as it came as a surprise to them. Archimedes simply set the defence of
Syracuse in motion, as if it were a simple complex machine, as operable by one
man, as a triple pulley drawing up a ship. (Jaeger, pg. 110) Only requiring one
man, Archimedes claw allowed for a single man to sink an entire ship in the matter
of minutes. It is no wonder that the small port city of Syracuse was able to defend
themselves off the Roman army twice. Next, Archimedes death ray was another of
Archimedes brilliant invention that is designed to destroy ships using little work.
Archimedes death ray was a mirror that reflects off sunlight and the mirror would
direct that energy onto the enemy ship to burn it. With just mirrors, Syracuse s

Computer Technology And Its Impact On Society Essay
Computer technology has evolved dramatically over the years and has significantly
changed society. As technology advances, it transforms and improves society.
Computer related technology allows for enhancement of social functions previously
difficult or impossible to execute. Computers have also accelerated productivity.
Much less time is required nowadays to research information. Many in search of
jobs and careers have reaped the rewards of computertechnology. For too long,
finding information about various careers was very difficult and painstaking, but the
computer has revolutionized the job search process. People now have access to
virtually endless information on the career of their choice. This has permitted freer
access to career opportunities that is appropriate for their lifestyle. People now can
locate thousands of jobs opportunities from their personal computers. One other
component of careers that has been influenced by computers is the development.
Today s generation could never ever imagine in their wildest dreams about the
world, ages before, when there were no computers or any other technologies. So
much we have advanced that now every information is just a click away and is in
your hands 24/7. All this advancement was possible only with the introduction of a
small device called the Computer . The computer is considered the most revolutionary
invention of the twentieth century and it appears to be as well. The impact of
computer usage can be found in

IDEO GAMES: ADDICTION OR BENEFITS?
Video Games: Addiction or Benefits?

Abstract To answer the question Are video games beneficial or it s an addiction?
two areas of video game research are looked at. First, research about benefits of
playing video games. Second, research supporting the idea of video game
addiction, followed by research challenging the idea and advising against the
addiction label. Overall research is going to be based on mostly scholarly sources,
and I will try to prove that video games are more beneficial than a form of sickness
or an addiction. Following the exploration of research, there are some
recommendations taken from other scholarly articles in the case of individual
concern and the possibility of negative effects of video game play.
Video games became a global form of entertainment, education, and sport, over past
40 years. In that time, the possible short and long term effects of video game
playing arose. These concerns were compounded in the wake of school shootings
such as those that occurred at Columbine in 1999 and Virginia Tech in 2007, leading
to large amounts of research regarding video games and their various effects.
Research continues today, seeking to answer the question, Are video games good or
bad? Scholars from various disciplines, including communication and

Communications Skills Reflect and describe which key concepts and topics in
Federal Income Tax course have made you a stronger candidate to enter the
business world. The basic concepts from the course that have improved my
understanding of federal income taxes include: the discussion on the estate tax, the
debate about the impact of raising / lowering taxes, issues concerning income tax
reform and the challenges facing many independent auditors in the future. The
combination of these factors has made me a stronger candidate by seeing how this
is impacting a number of firms. This will allow me to introduce concepts that can
help these companies to address critical needs by: imposing strict internal controls.
(Wolfman, 2008) Any kind of firm that is following these practices will have less
challenges in the future and greater amounts of transparency. The ideas and concepts
that I learned from this course will help to improve my ability to identify and
troubleshoot these weaknesses. When a firm has executives that are taking this kind
of focus, it will lead to a transformation of the operating environment. This is because
everyone knows that certain issues will not be tolerated (with the potential of
someone blowing the whistle). In the future, this will change how everyone is
conducting their jobs by: having an emphasis on being as forthright as possible (with
the different stakeholders). (Wolfman, 2008) Discuss how this course has affected

Existentialism In Hamlet
Hamlet is widely regarded as one of William Shakespeare s most famous and best
written tragedies. Its importance to history, due in part to the fact that the
introspection of the main character upon his dilemmas was rarely addressed in other
popular plays, is felt to this day. Similar to the likes of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth,
Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, and other Shakespearean tragedies, it has been the
subject of much critical analysis and literary review from many approaches. In this
essay, the historic, existentialist, traditional revenge tragedy, psychoanalytic, and
archetypal approaches will be used to understand the tragedy of Hamlet. The time
period in which the play was written is known as either the English Renaissance or
the Early Modern Era. The existence of both names seems to prove that Hamlet was
penned in a period of transition for England, and the characters within the tragedy all
but confirm this conjecture. Hamlet, the titular character, represents the modern half
of the transition, acquiring an education from a city where the transition was most
prominent, while Claudius represents the medieval half, claiming and subsequently
abusing the traditional position of king through means of betrayal and secrecy
(Bernath 220). The time period also suggests that the introspection of the main
character upon his dilemma s in such a way as to question his own existence initially
had an incredible resonance with audiences, as such commentary on the human
Feed Machine Advantages And Disadvantages
There are advantages and disadvantages that will be exist if we using the feed
machine instead of not using any machines. The advantages that we can observe is
save time and energy. This is because every machine that had been invented is high
technology and can do a various function for a long period of time. Since that the
machine can do a various function, we can say that we can save a lot of time
because the machine can produce a lot of feed in a short period of time and the
feed also can be produced fast and in economic way. In the aspect of energy, we can
also save the energy since that there are reduction of workers that will be used
because of the machine can do their activities by their own without any disturbance
from other things. Besides... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animal performance also can be improved when the feed are more uniformed in
size and shape compared to powder diet, so they can be taken easily by the animals
due to their high density. The feed also become more compact of the nutrients and
energy that will make the size of the animals become increased rapidly. The size of
the pellet become uniform in size and shape is due to the feed pellet mill that
functions as to make the ingredients to become a pellet. The feed machine also
function to decreased feed wastage because of the pelleting process prevents the
segregation of ingredients in a mixing, handling or feeding process, so animals can
take in all the nutrition contained in the feed. Other than that, the heat generated from
the pelleting process in conditioning and pelleting make the feedstuffs more
digestible by breaking down the starches. From this situation, the pellet will become
more palatable to the animals. After that, feed machine also can reduce the selective
feeding among the animals because of most of the ingredients of the formulation had

The Goal Of Trio Student Support Services At Pulaski...
On January 12, 1965, during his education message to Congress, President Lyndon B.
Johnson conveyed that in order to strengthen our country, we needed to provide more
higher education opportunities for lower and middle income families, and on
November 8, 1965, the Higher Education Act became law.
The first three programs established under the new Higher Education Act were,
Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student support services. Together this Trio of
federally funded programs encouraged access to higher education for low income
students. Currently, there are eight programs administered under the Higher
Education Act that target to serve and assist low income individuals, first generation
college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic
pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
The purpose of this Evaluation is to justify the necessity and validity of the Trio
Student Support Services at Pulaski Technical College and the impact it has upon the
community.
The goal of TRIO Student Support Services is to help participants have a successful
college experience and achieve their academic and personal goals. The program
serves 180 Pulaski Tech students who qualify for services. Students must be first
generation college students (neither parent has a baccalaureate degree), meet income
requirements based on family size and/or have a documented disability. The

Black Power Movement
The movement formally arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, at the capitol, but grew
out of six years of cumulative anger on the part of members of the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). The Black Power Movement also
known as the 1970 s Revolution was an attempt by people with varied interests to
make plain the issues which the leaders of the day failed to address. It all started in
October of 1968 when hundreds of university students and supporters led by the
National Joint Action Commission (NJAC). Malcolm X, Black Muslim group,
Black Panthers. Groups like the Black Panthers and Malcolm X which had an
ideology that leaned toward Black Nationalism and equality by any means necessary.

But the solutions that some Black Power leaders advocated seemed only to create
new problems.
But the Movement was not only about taking over the government, it was about
changing the society of Trinidad and Tobago and it was a process which identified
the need for education of the people, recognising that we had been subjected to a
colonial education system and we needed to be able to look at ourselves and our
country and our future from a different perspective. Other groups affected by racism
developed similar movements. By the mid 1970s, the Black Power movement was
for all intents and purposes over. There were arrests, and harassment of many of the
movement s members, gets much of the credit for the decline of the Black Power
movement.
Conclusion
In conclusion, The Black Power Movement was an attempt to address plain issues
that the leaders did not address and it gave people the ability to vote, Integration,
affirmative action and equal rights in the work place. It instilled a sense of racial
pride and self esteem in blacks and how to fight for what we wanted and what was
right and also not to back down until we get it. In the Black Power Movement t the
people of nation united and showed that they cannot be intimidated by just anything.
This also helps future leaders of the country to see what was done in the past and what
Upper Body Injury Essay
In the discussion at hand few where asked to to select an upper body injury in any
sport and elaborate on the subject matter. The first thing that we need to do is define
the appendicular skeleton. The axial skeleton includes all the bones (that form bony
structures) along the body s long axis. The bones of the appendicular skeleton make
up the rest of the skeleton and are so called because they are appendages of the axial
skeleton. The appendicular skeleton includes the bones of the shouldergirdle, the
upper limbs, the pelvic girdle, and the lower limbs. (Publishing). The injury that I was
enlightening to highlight within the appendicular skeleton is tennis elbow or in
medical terms (lateral epicondylitis. The sport that this is most prevalent in is weight

Comparison of jump height between males and females
Figure 1: Comparison of avg jump (in CM) between males (n=11) and females
(n=10) with a p value of 0.00203. This p value indicates a significant difference
between the avg. jump heights of males and females. The bars are the avg. jump
heights along with standard deviation of the mean.
Results: The p value of 0.00203 is p lt;0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and
conclude that there is a significant difference between the two means. A big part that
contributes to this result (significant differences) is that males on average tend to
have more muscle mass than females ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other
factors could have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not
standardized, lack of a bigger sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump
height it had to be predicted where the person s hand reached, thus leading to huge
assumptions on the measuring part.
Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females
Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in
females (n=10). A R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak
relationship between calf circumference and jump height.
Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between
calf circumference and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having
the calf circumference. Similarly with the calf circumference and jump height in
males, physiologically, it would make more sense for the hamstrings and quads to
play a bigger role in jumping height as they are bigger muscles and generate most of
the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have a role it might be insignificant.
Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to the end results:
everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort),
possible injuries, or soreness. Another source that could have contributed to end
results for being what they are is the lack of a big sample size. Additionally,
measuring the
Gender Roles In Oedipus The King, Mending Wall And
Birches
Question 1 The 1st person point of view narrator has been significantly used in all
the three works covered in class. These are; Oedipus the King , Mending Wall and
Birches . In all these works, the authors have used the first person point of view in
the subjective case. This was meant to relate us the readers, with the other
characters and events in the stories. The 1st person point of view was expressed in
singular pronouns such as; I, me, my, mine and myself. Alternatively, it was
expressed in plural pronouns such as; we, us, our and ourselves. By use of these
pronouns, the respective authors immersed us into their minds. Therefore, we the
readers are allowed a first hand experience of the events in the story. Question 2
The works covered; Oedipus the King and Birches are all demonstrative to the
comprehension gender and gender roles have in the society. To begin with, it has
been established by history that the distinct roles attached to gender are as a
consequence of our socialization. Generally, men have always retained an upper
hand compared to women as the society has defined this to be so. Traditionally,
access to education, socially acceptable experience and even financial power were in
favor of men such that by extension, more men ventured into literature than women.
As a result, most of these works are written by men. The different roles women and
men characters play in the stories are also largely influenced by the society s views.

American singer, and actress. Family
Being the youngest of the Quintanilla family, Selena Quintanilla was born on April

money to survive, prompting them to play at weddings, at quinceaneras street
corners and fairs. Her popularity and demand grew resulting to her father s action of

Avocado High Demand
The information found in the article Short supply, high demand sees avocado

supply. One reason the demand is so high for avocados according to New Zealand
Avocado Growers Association chief executive Jen Scoular is because the health
effects avocados provide. With the markets raising awareness and grabbing
consumers interest, leads to a higher demand at a limited source of supply. This
article also mentioned that almost 60% of their avocado crop was being exported. A
spokeswoman for supermarket operator Foodstuff said the firmer avocado prices this
summer were not unexpected and reflected supply and demand. ( Adams, Short

When faced with a supply and demand issue we are faced with a product that is in
demand but cannot be supplied or is limited to supply. As we see in the avocado
scenario, the demand for avocados was skyrocketing however the supply was
limited. Therefore, adjustments need to be made in order to maintain the current
supply, or outsource for more. When this occurs the price of the product is bound
to increase. The industry feels that price increase justifies what the value of the
product is at the particular time. The higher the demand the higher the price. With
supply and demand it proves that if people really want something they will pay for
it regardless of the cost. Let me use the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an example: the
phone has a retail value of $599.99, within a day of the phone being out, every store
was sold out. Consumer s had the demand for the phone and the supply was there.
However, that same phone is a few months may only be

Auschwitz was a terror for the Jewish people around the world.
Many people were involved in Auschwitz, both Nazis and Jews. Over 1.1 million
people were murdered at Auschwitz, most Jews came from Hungary, 426,000 in total
(Auschwitz USHMM). Although Auschwitz was big it was headed by one person,
SturmbannfГјhrer Karl Bischoff (Architecture of Murder). Auschwitz was a big place
and needed a lot of planning. There were many people making construction plans, but
the Blueprint office was headed by HauptscharfГјhrer Wichmann, who was
responsible for collecting and making some plans (Architecture of Murder). There
were three commanders of Auschwitz. The most famous commander was Colonel

Target Strategy For Target Corporation
Target has been a successful retail company coming in 2nd place behind Wal Mart.
Although these successes come in many forms, there are factors that deter Target
from ever reaching first place. Target Corporation has run into a few weaknesses in
the recent years. These weaknesses that Target are facing can impact their future
goals. They include lawsuits that Target is facing with the recent events and not
having an international presence. Even though Target is ranked currently 36 in
the fortune 500 companies and have over 1750 stores, they are still very
susceptible to being a victim of a cyber attack. In 2013, Target fell victim to a
security breach on their system. Roughly around Thanksgiving of 2013, someone
had installed malware in Target s security and payment system enabling the hackers
to steal credit card and personal information. Six months earlier the company began
installing a $1.6 million malware detection tool made by the computer security firm
FireEye, whose customers also include the CIA and the Pentagon.

The Pros And Cons Of Outlast

defense will be to run and hide. You start the game as the investigative journalist
Miles Upshur who decides to check out the abandoned asylum. Sounds like a great
idea! What could possibly go wrong? The environments of Outlast are quite
impressive, and you have one of the best looking and sounding games that has been
seen in a long time. This game does a good job at building dread when you enter
new areas or closed doors. Like a lot of great games, the richness of the game lies in
the smaller details that have made it feel like a real game. Outside of running for
your life throughout the game, you search for notes that builds the backstory of the
game. Some of the enemies in the game, however, look petrifying from afar, but

The Controversial Restoration of the Sistine Chapel
The restoration of the Sistine Chapel in the 1980 s and 90 s was very controversial.
This issue began because Michelangelo, the painter of the Sistine Chapels ceiling,
did the painting as a fresco. This means that the paint was absorbed in the wall, thus
becoming part of the wall itself. Like many other walls and building, over time they
began to crack and deteriorate. During the time of the consideration of the restoration
of the chapel, the frescohad been up for over 500 years. As one would expect, there
had been many cracks in the ceiling and the coloring of the ceiling was becoming
dull. The ceiling was also dusty and covered in grime from candle smoke and
burning coal. Before the newest and most major renovation of the chapel, there had
been other previous smaller ones. In some of these restorations, a type of glue was
used to temporarily brighten the dark colors. Unfortunately, the glue helped to
attract more dust and grime, which took away from the efforts of restoring it. In one
attempt to restore the ceiling, wine and bread were used to clean it. I cannot not see
how anyone would think that would work and it obviously did not. The most current
restoration began in the 1980 s and lasted for about twelve to fourteen years. This
restoration included some of the best restorers worldwide. The Nippon Television
Corporation, a Japanese television company, donated 3 million dollars to fund this
project and in return required that they had exclusive television and
Chemical Reaction Of Chemical Reactions
Chemical kinetics is the study of rates during chemical processes and the speed at
which they occur (Chm.Davidson, 2016). Chemical kinetics can be altered by the
effect of various variables and the re arrangement of atoms. An example of kinetic
processes can be seen in many experiments such as the Landolt IodineClock Reaction.
Clock reactions represent chemical reactions in which two colourless solutions are
mixed together; at first no reaction takes place but after a short period of time the
solution can be seen to undergo a change in colour. Within the Landolt iodine clock
reaction Potassium Iodate and Sodium Bisulphite react to yield iodine, which in
return reacts with the starch molecules to form the blue solution (RSC, 2016). The
process of this experiment can be explained through the following chemical reactions:
The iodine ions are produced, due to following reaction between iodate and bisulphite:
IO3в€’ + 3 HSO3в€’ в†’ Iв€’ + 3 HSO4в€’
2. The iodate that is left in excess after the first reaction will oxidise with iodide
formed to generate iodine:
IO3в€’ + 5 Iв€’ + 6 H+ в†’ 3 I2 + 3 H2O
3. Instantaneously the iodine is reduced back to iodide by the bisulphite I2 +
HSO3в€’ + H2O в†’ 2 Iв€’ + HSO4в€’ + 2 H+
Consequently the iodine will react with the starch to create the coloured solution; this
will only occur once the bisulphite is fully consumed (Unomaha, 2016). Throughout
the course of these chemical reactions, the rate at which the reaction occurs takes
place

Ali being too close to anyone specifically, always being somewhat removed. But, in
the morning after the fight, we see Ali bent down to hug and kiss a young girl. This
is an incredibly tender moment; not only breaking down the wall between him and
his followers, but it brings him back akin to the earth after he has been exalted to the
status of a God. Nevertheless, because this moment occurs directly after the fight, it
not only humanises Ali, but it sets the stage for him to move beyond boxing and into
the rest of his life. When We Were Kings is very much a character piece of
Muhammad Ali s intense adoration for the people of Africa, which is shown through

Analysis Of Darth Paper Strikes Back
The setting in Darth Paper Strikes Back takes place inside a school. The main
character is Tommy. He wants to find out if origami is real or just a joke. Dwight,
also a student, made an origami finger puppet and says it is magical. There are also
other characters such as Harvey, a person who says that origami yoda is fake by
holding a Darth Vader origami finger puppet. In the beginning of the story, Tommy,
a 7th grader, started off bad. He turns around at lunch, and there is Harvey, holding
a darth paper origami puppet and steals his chocolate chip cookie. Then came
Dwight holding origami yoda. Tommy asked origami yoda how to make Harvey to
stop. Then origami yoda says, Teach him you must . Other people asked it questions
and it would answer.
Social Media Activism, Centered On Police Brutality
Has Social Media Activism, Centered On Police Brutality in African American
Communities Producing Sustainable Change?
Simona M. Young
University of Southern California
Over the last year, the media has done an excellent job in bringing national exposure
to the culture of police brutality within African American communities. Fortunately,
social media alongside the growing accessibility to smartphones has assisted in
bringing these intentional violations to the forefront of the national debate, creating a
new form of activism, commonly referred to as social media activism ( Policing The
Police and Prosecuting The Clan, n.d.; Pooly, 2011). However, is this new form of
social activism, through social media, producing real, tangible change in the fight
against discrimination and social injustices in America? Historically, the driving force
behind successful social movements is effective organizing. Most attribute the
success of the Civil Rights Movement to the impressionistic images of dramatic
confrontations with police dogs and African Americans people being hosed down
with water in the streets, however, it was rooted in a hybrid of extremely intentional
efforts, which included civil disobedience, grass roots organizing with intense
political mobilization, economic withdrawal, via mass boycotts and sit ins, and
sensational community leaders/activists who are able to evoke intense emotional
connections, galvanizing the black community to act in
Oliver Cromwell
Oliver Cromwell is and has always been one of the most controversial characters in
British and Irish history. There are few people in Great Britain and Ireland today
who have not yet heard of Oliver Cromwell and either loathe him or see him as a
hero. Yet, the world is not black and white and so is the truth about Cromwell. In
order to understand his role in both countries as a whole, one has to look at the
perspective of both nations, Cromwell s beliefs and his motives.
Oliver Cromwell s religious belief was one of the most important influences on his
doings and shaped his way of thinking immensely. Cromwell was a highly religious
man and member of Puritans. Basically, the word Puritan means that its followers
had a pure soul and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout history, Cromwell has been portrayed in very different lights, especially
in Great Britain. It is an undeniable fact that Cromwell contributed some good to his
country. For instance, numerous laws were made less severe and politics as well as
justice less corrupt. In matters of religion, he granted freedom of worship. Yet, after
his death Cromwell was seen as a tyrant and a king slayer and the people were tired
of living under such strict rules. Regarding politics, debates arose about what effect
he had on the political system after his death. It is incontrovertible that his rule was
one of the turning points in British history, as Cromwell ensured that a king would
never be able to rule on his own.
However, nowhere is Cromwell more associated with fevered anti Catholicism and
murder than in Ireland. Cromwell came to Ireland in 1649 pursuing two objectives:
to place the island firmly under the control of British leaders and to suppress those
Royalists who wanted to return to the status quo, in which English monarchy ruled.
Those Loyalists and also Irish Catholics were especially a thorn in the side of
Cromwell, as he believed they were all potential traitors and willing to help any
Catholic uprising that wanted to attack England. Cromwell personified the anti
Catholicism of his time and he believed he was carrying out the orders from God by
taming the Irish. His first target was Drogheda, a town in which he slaughtered
thousands of Irish people.

Burmese Python
Have you ever heard of a Burmese Python? The Burmese python is a magnificent
and powerful animal. These snakes do not have venom, but they catch their prey and
squeeze very hard. The Burmese python is twenty three feet and can weigh up to
two hundred pounds. Chemical receptors in their tongues and heat sensors along the
jaws compensate for their poor eyesight and allow them to hunt in the dark. To kill
their pray, they first grasp it with their back curving teeth. When the animal tries to
pull away, the snake s teeth only sink down further. These snakes are very, very
dangerous. They have made changes in local animals, people, and the Everglades.
This is why the Python Challenge occurred.

In source four, the text states that it is not enough to say Let s go out and shoot some
pythons. These animals are in Florida because we brought them here. We must do a
better job of educating people about the effect their careless have on ecosystems
here in Florida and around the world. In source two, it says that a growing
population of Burmese pythons many pets turned loose by their owners when
they became too big is threatening the ecosystem of Florida s Everglades. Many
people like snakes because of their beautiful skin, but their rapid growth rate, and
their generally docile disposition is not a thing to like about. Like I said before,
after they grow too big, they let them go in the wild and when Hurricane Andrew
hit, it never did help matters. In source four, the text states that an exotic pet dealer s
warehouse that housed nearly nine hundred Burmese pythons was destroyed, and
many of its pythons escaped. As I conclude, the Burmese pythons has effected local
animals, people, and the Florida Everglades. In conclusion, these pythons can be
very dangerous. Even though they do not have venom, they squeeze and swallow
animal s whole. The Florida Everglades is a very dangerous place to be right now.
Tens of thousands of Burmese pythons are estimated to be living in the Everglades,
where they thrive in the warm, humid climate. People can tell each other to go shoot
some snakes or something,
Student Collaboration
In January 2010, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of
Teachers, delivered a speech at the National Press Club entitled A New Path Forward:
Four Approaches to Quality Teaching and Better Schools. In this speech, Weingarten
called for more collaboration:
Imagine a system in which teachers have time to come together to resolve student
issues, share lesson plans, analyze student work, discuss successes and failures, and
learn through high quality professional development. Imagine a system in which
students can t fall through the cracks because they re backed by a team of teachers,
not just the one at the front of the room. (Weingarten 2010)
Weingarten s though of teachers collaboration by means of improving teaching
methods is influential, and the notion of teachers considerately generating collective
wisdom is attractive for those teachers who desire to exchange information and
precious data from colleagues as they develop their teaching career. Goddard and
Goddard (2010) as cited in Burton (2015) stated that teachers are professionals and
own irreplaceable awareness about their students and the ways they learn. Successful
collaboration takes place when teachers skill and knowledge are spread and
instruction is improved. Teachers with different ranks of knowledge and experience
that cooperatively emphasis on refining student learning are most beneficial in
growing student success. In fact, a review ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Explain Why Pope Urban Ll Called for a Crusade Essay
In 1095, at the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban ll made a powerful and well
planned speech. His message was clear and precise, go to the holy land in
Jerusalem and claim back what is rightfully yours or die trying, and in return
remission of all your sins with the assurance of the imperishable glory of the
kingdom of heaven . He was addressing Christians from all over France calling for a
Crusade in the name of God and as many would argue, abusing his authority and
status he received from the Catholic Church. What occurred during the First Crusade
is well known to many, whereas the reason behind PopeUrban ll calling the Crusade
is a highly debated and contradicting issue.
One of the reasons which are occasionally cited for Urban s ... Show more content on

Finally, an additional reason for Urban s calling for a so called Crusade was that he
felt the lands of Christ needed to be reclaimed and in the control of Christianity not in
the hands of infidels . Jerusalem is at the centre of the Christian faith and is the
religions birth place. It is the land in which Jesus was crucified and then, as
Christians believe, bought back to life in a miracle event. Urban said in his
speech, wrest that land from the wicked race, that land which the scripture says
floweth with milk and honey and was given by god to the children of Israel . By
these few words we can understand why Urban felt so strongly that it the land of
Christians and why he ordered for it to be reclaimed, even if it mean death. At the
time of Urban s speech Jerusalam was under the rule of Muslim, who also have a
strong attachment with the land as it is the place where the holy prophet descended
to heaven. Urban however believed that it belonged to the Christians and therefore
ordered it to be reclaimed in the name of god .
Pope Urban ll called for a Crusade at the Council of Clermont to claim back what he
believed rightfully belonged to the Christians and unite the Catholic and Greek
Orthodox churches. Through the cover of Alexins plea for help

Background The security exchange commission filed charges against Rite Aid s
senior executives on June 21, 2002. ( SEC Announces Fraud Charges Against
Former Rite Aid Senior Management ) These charges were on the basis of
accounting fraud and were filed against senior leadership ranging from the former
CEO to a former Vice Chairman, specifically Martin Grass the chief executive
officer, Frank Bergonzi the chief financial officer, and Franklin Brown a former vice
chairman. Security and exchange commission alleged that Rite Aid overstated its
income and every quarter from May 1997 to May 1999. ( SEC Announces Fraud

were related party transactions that were never reported as well as finance committee
meetings had had the minutes fabricated by Grass. The Securities and Exchange
Commission is looking to have several punishments placed on the executives. The
commission is seeking this disgorgement of annual bonuses and imposition of civil
penalties against Grass, Bergonzi, and Brown. ( SEC Announces Fraud Charges

required by section 304 of Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002. This essentially requires that
the executives forfeit any bonuses or income that they had earned during the 12

The Public Company Sonic Drive Corporation
The public company Sonic Drive Corporation was my choice of analysis because
of being familiar with the field of work. Sonic Corporation, also known as Sonic
Drive In, is a fast food restaurant chain that originated in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
As of 2015, Sonic has 3,526 drive ins across 44 states. The total amount of drive ins
includes company and franchise owned. Sonic has operated since the 1950 s and
is known for its carhops delivering food to cars on roller skates (Shine). The
restaurant s menu consists of hamburgers and hot dogs with fries and tots
following as side items. The drink options available range all the way from soft
drinks to slushes and even milkshakes. Customers are also given the choice to
combine different flavors to create thousands of drink possibilities. It all started at
the end of World War II. The founder of Sonic, Troy N. Smith resided in Seminole,
Oklahoma. His job at the end of the war was as a milkman. Soon after that career,
he opened up a cottage cafГ© named Troy s Pan Full of Chicken. By the time 1953
rolled around, he had partnered up resulting in a walk up root beer stand named Top
Hat. The operation brought in astonishing sales resulting in more expansion
(Blackburn). The insight of a speaker system for vehicles was then implemented at
the drive ins. After the installation of a speaker system, sales had nearly tripled. It
wasn t until 1959 that the name of Top Hat wasn t a problem in the legal system. All
owners were informed about the

A Powerful Family and A Corruptive Society
The Montana 1948 describes the twelve years old boy David, who witnesses the
family tragedy that involves murder, sexual assault, and racism during the summer
of 1948. The Native American Marie was killed by David s uncle Frank, who is the
popular and well known doctor in Bentrock. In order to cover up Frank s crime, David
s father Wesley suffered both external and internal pressure from the power of
grandpa Julian, the justice system, and the name of Hayden. Although Wesley works
so hard to collect evidence against his brother Frank, Frank chooses to die rather than
to convince his guilt. Given too much power in the hand, the Hayden family is blind
to the laws and tend to manipulate the society. Thus, in order to preserve the fame of
the Hayden family, the Hayden abuses too much power and ignores the laws and
justice, which leads the society to the destruction.
The purpose of obtaining power is not for benefit townpeople as whole rather than to
gain domination in the society without practicing any laws. For grandpa Hayden, he
had the ambition to control others behaviors and he wanted, he needed, power пј€8)
to make himself superior to others. It is a common phenomenon that racism is one of
prevailing trend in the society of 1948. Grandpa Julian represents one of the typical
examples that shows his extreme disdain and prejudice toward the Native Americans,
who are treated poorly and badly at that time. Although grandpa had an idea

Assess sociological explanations of changes in the status of childhood?
Childhood is a social construction and varies between times, places and groups. Most
sociologists see our ides of childhood as a fairly recent one, the result of
industrialisation and other social changes. Modern society constructs childhood as a
tie of vulnerability, innocence and segregation from the adult world. The March of

These have encouraged parents to make a greater financial and emotional
investment in the fewer children that we have now. Children s health and
development became the subject of medical knowledge. Jacques Donzelot (1977)
observes how theories of child development that began to appear from the 19th
century. The laws and policies that apply specifically to children, such as minimum
wages for a wide range of activities from sex to smoking, have reinforced the idea
that children are different from adults and so different rules must be applied to their
behaviour.
The march of progress view
Is that position of children has improved dramatically in a relatively short period of
time. However, conflict sociologist such as Marxists and feminists dispute this.
They argue that society is based on conflicts between social groups such as social
classes or between genders. In this conflict, some groups have more power, status or
wealthy than others. Conflict sociologist see the relationship between groups as one
of domination and subordination, in which the dominant act as oppressors. Conflict
sociologist argues that the march of progress view of modern childhood is based on
false and idealised image that ignores important inequalities. They criticise the march
of progress view on two grounds and they; that there are inequalities among children

Cummings uses many different literary devices throughout Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town, to explain the setting, as well as the tone of the piece. By using devices such as imagery, rhymes, and metonymy, Cummings creates the illusion of a pleasant town, that experiences many seasons together, and is eventually plagued by a death of a town member. Cummings chooses his diction carefully in order to make sure the audience is getting the right appearance of the town, he does so by choosing colorful words that will allow the audience to imagine the town and it s people. By using phrases such as, Women and men(both little and small) it shows that the townspeople are very much the same, all small, all little, not much variation between them. stars rain sun moon(and only the snow can begin to explain how children are apt to forget to remember with up so floating many bells down) Phrases such as this also represent the changing of seasons, as well as the passing of time. • 6. Essay on Happiness and Drought It is interesting to think about why our ancestors decided to include the pursuit of happiness as an American s unalienable right, as opposed to the previously considered, right to land. To live a life without happiness, it seemed to them, is to live a life without meaning. Edgar Lee Masters poems commonly reflect on the quality, or lack thereof, of happiness in the afterlife of dead countrymen (and women). The diction, word choice and imagery in Fiddler Jones by Masters expresses the seemingly inherent joy of a lackadaisical man as well as the value of perspectives and the ability to posit happiness over fortune and land. As many of Master s poems in his Spoon River Anthology, the title Fiddler Jones refers to a man who is not only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the poem begins by talking generally about the fundamental process of life, lines 3 and 4 bring an individual to the stage in which the poem is set forth. This is done by introducing the art of fiddle playing and the skill that such a feat requires. A skill is a tenet that sets apart an individual from a general crowd. It is something that one may seek pleasure from and it is here that the speaker of the poem creates this separation the individual. And if the people find you can fiddle, Why, fiddle you must, for all your life. (ll. 3 4) At this point we are being advised by the speaker that if we have a skill we must use it for the rest of our lives. But it also says that if people find you can fiddle, which suggests a communal aspect. This skill that sets one apart also makes them a part of a community that cherishes the skill which one has acquired. This further contributes to the meaning on the poem because this is the point in which we are given insight into the speaker s philosophy. This belief being that if one is good at something it should fully encompass their being for the duration of one s life, thus rendering it a passion that becomes as a part of living as breathing itself. This leads into the next lines where we are now required to consider value as a component in distinguishing divergent perspectives. The point in which perspectives diverge happens in lines 4 and 5, where Master s imagery is employed to depict the scene of a

This lie permanently damages his life because he will now be too scared to even leave his house, since his fear of meeting new people is even greater. Had Vera been truthful to Framton about her aunt, he would have no reason to leave the house. This story is just one example of the subversive effects of lying, but it clearly shows how just one lie can change someone s life for the worst, as Framton would be getting the crucial treatment he needs if Vera had not lied to him. In all situations, telling the truth is better than lying, even though it may be more difficult. For example, many people tell a copious amount of white lies every day, because it is either easier than telling the truth, or they want to spare other people s feelings. In Like the Sun , Sekhar is aware of the amount of white lies people tell every day, and conducts an experiment to evaluate whether or not these white lies are necessary in everyday life. He challenges himself to go one whole day with only telling the absolute truth, and does not let anyone know of his plan. He believes that, Truth...is like the sun...no human being can ever look it straight in the face without blinking or being dazed. This article reviewed the timing of puberty and its effect on the family unit. This article defined the timing of puberty as one of three categories, early onset, on time or late maturer. The need for further research in this area was necessary because previous studies often contradicted each other. This particular study was completed using participants that were white, highly educated and from upper middle class families with one parentand one adolescent from each familyparticipating. The study tried to use equal numbers of fathers and mothers as much as possible but complete equality was not always possible because more mothers participated than fathers. The adolescents were between the ages of 10 and 17 years old and were various stages of puberty. Each adolescent was assessed based on their visible signs of secondary sex features such as facial hair, hip width, height, weight and chest development. To put it simply, a rhetorical situation is some response to a certain situation (Bitzer 3). Bitzer also explains that there are three parts to any rhetorical situation: the exigence, the audience, and the constraints. These three components exist before any discourse is created or presented (6.) On July 27th, 2016, Avalon lifeguardEmily Blake sent a message to the other members of the Avalon staff, informing them that she could not work her assigned shift due to other commitments that she needed to attend to. Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set in place don t completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a hazardous environmentthe workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits. The working environments and conditions in Bangladesh are not only harsh, but unsafe, and the workers are under compensated for the conditions. Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to operate in. There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh alone some of the most catastrophic work hazards happen in the factories. In Spencer 2 America certain laws are set in place to have guarantee that hazardous workplaces are under control, and at a certain point. Otherwise the business and or factory would have to be shut down for unsafe working conditions. On the 24th of April 2013 one of the most catastrophic

Essay about A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings Linda Hogan writes in her preface to Dwellings that there is a terrestrial intelligence that lies beyond our human knowing and grasping. This is the main point that is constantly reiterated throughout the book, and this is the point that makes the book so important. The trouble with the earth today is that humans have become too smart; so smart that they question everything they once took for granted, and being unable to explain it, discount it as unreal. Science, the very thing that has catapulted us into our present state of greatness, is also the human evil that has isolated us from everything we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are so removed from it that most people cannot stand to be in it, except to view its anomalies like those at Yellowstonefrom isolation tank like recreational vehicles. Hogan takes things that happen in the human sphere and turns them inside out, showing us the sociological innards that expose the enormous distance between what we know and what we think we know. Her example of chimpanzees shows us something scientists have been trying to hide. In teaching them sign language, we realize they have feelings, opinions, and know what s going on around them. They aren t just like ignorant babies with an instinct to eat and mate. People frequently make exceptions for their dogs. They believe their dogs understand what they tell them, that their dogs care what kind of dog food they get, that they feel jealousy when the cat gets attention. Imagine if people felt this kind of empathy and respect to every species on the planet. Hogan deliberately picks out animals that are displeasing to most people, bats, snakes, wolves, maggots, ants, and writes about them as living, loving animals just like the rest of us. They are aware of the process that we have long forgotten. I was thinking about birds the other day. There were several of them feeding at my bird

He was best known for shouting Eureka naked across the street when he understood the principal that the volume of water displaced is equal to the water that rose. His inventions spanned across many different industries and has helped sped up the pace of innovation in those following industries. However, one of the most impressive aspect about him was that his inventions completely altered the way warfare was fought. The grappling hook would hook the enemy ship when they approach and grab them up the air only to toss them down back to the sea, destroying and sinking the ship. The enemies of Archimedes had no chance to respond to a huge hand shaped hook as it came as a surprise to them. Archimedes simply set the defence of Syracuse in motion, as if it were a simple complex machine, as operable by one man, as a triple pulley drawing up a ship. (Jaeger, pg. 110) Only requiring one man, Archimedes claw allowed for a single man to sink an entire ship in the matter of minutes. It is no wonder that the small port city of Syracuse was able to defend themselves off the Roman army twice. Next, Archimedes death ray was another of Archimedes brilliant invention that is designed to destroy ships using little work. Archimedes death ray was a mirror that reflects off sunlight and the mirror would direct that energy onto the enemy ship to burn it. With just mirrors, Syracuse s soldiers were able to burn off ships from far away using Archimedes death ray, as opposed to arrows which are ineffective when attacking enemies from far away, or catapults which are hard to aim, Archimedes death ray allowed for the soldiers to aim the weapon at a faraway

First, research about benefits of playing video games. Second, research supporting the idea of video game addiction, followed by research challenging the idea and advising against the addiction label. Overall research is going to be based on mostly scholarly sources, and I will try to prove that video games are more beneficial than a form of sickness or an addiction. • 23. Existentialism In Hamlet Hamlet is widely regarded as one of William Shakespeare s most famous and best written tragedies. Its importance to history, due in part to the fact that the introspection of the main character upon his dilemmas was rarely addressed in other popular plays, is felt to this day. Similar to the likes of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, and other Shakespearean tragedies, it has been the subject of much critical analysis and literary review from many approaches. In this essay, the historic, existentialist, traditional revenge tragedy, psychoanalytic, and archetypal approaches will be used to understand the tragedy of Hamlet. The time period in which the play was written is known as either the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Era. The existence of both names seems to prove that Hamlet was penned in a period of transition for England, and the characters within the tragedy all but confirm this conjecture. Hamlet, the titular character, represents the modern half of the transition, acquiring an education from a city where the transition was most prominent, while Claudius represents the medieval half, claiming and subsequently abusing the traditional position of king through means of betrayal and secrecy (Bernath 220). The time period also suggests that the introspection of the main character upon his dilemma s in such a way as to question his own existence initially had an incredible resonance with audiences, as such commentary on the human

Other factors could have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not standardized, lack of a bigger sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump height it had to be predicted where the person s hand reached, thus leading to huge assumptions on the measuring part. Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in females (n=10). This was meant to relate us the readers, with the other characters and events in the stories. The 1st person point of view was expressed in singular pronouns such as; I, me, my, mine and myself. Alternatively, it was expressed in plural pronouns such as; we, us, our and ourselves. By use of these pronouns, the respective authors immersed us into their minds. Therefore, we the readers are allowed a first hand experience of the events in the story. To begin with, it has been established by history that the distinct roles attached to gender are as a consequence of our socialization. As a result, most of these works are written by men. The different roles women and men characters play in the stories are also largely influenced by the society s views. Women are portrayed

  • 37. The Controversial Restoration of the Sistine Chapel The restoration of the Sistine Chapel in the 1980 s and 90 s was very controversial. This issue began because Michelangelo, the painter of the Sistine Chapels ceiling, did the painting as a fresco. This means that the paint was absorbed in the wall, thus becoming part of the wall itself. Like many other walls and building, over time they began to crack and deteriorate. During the time of the consideration of the restoration of the chapel, the frescohad been up for over 500 years. As one would expect, there had been many cracks in the ceiling and the coloring of the ceiling was becoming dull. The ceiling was also dusty and covered in grime from candle smoke and burning coal. Before the newest and most major renovation of the chapel, there had been other previous smaller ones. In some of these restorations, a type of glue was used to temporarily brighten the dark colors. Unfortunately, the glue helped to attract more dust and grime, which took away from the efforts of restoring it. In one attempt to restore the ceiling, wine and bread were used to clean it. I cannot not see how anyone would think that would work and it obviously did not. The most current restoration began in the 1980 s and lasted for about twelve to fourteen years. This restoration included some of the best restorers worldwide. The Nippon Television Corporation, a Japanese television company, donated 3 million dollars to fund this project and in return required that they had exclusive television and
  • 38. Chemical Reaction Of Chemical Reactions Chemical kinetics is the study of rates during chemical processes and the speed at which they occur (Chm.Davidson, 2016). Chemical kinetics can be altered by the effect of various variables and the re arrangement of atoms. An example of kinetic processes can be seen in many experiments such as the Landolt IodineClock Reaction. Clock reactions represent chemical reactions in which two colourless solutions are mixed together; at first no reaction takes place but after a short period of time the solution can be seen to undergo a change in colour. Within the Landolt iodine clock reaction Potassium Iodate and Sodium Bisulphite react to yield iodine, which in return reacts with the starch molecules to form the blue solution (RSC, 2016). The process of this experiment can be explained through the following chemical reactions: The iodine ions are produced, due to following reaction between iodate and bisulphite: IO3в€’ + 3 HSO3в€’ в†’ Iв€’ + 3 HSO4в€’ 2. The iodate that is left in excess after the first reaction will oxidise with iodide formed to generate iodine: IO3в€’ + 5 Iв€’ + 6 H+ в†’ 3 I2 + 3 H2O 3. Instantaneously the iodine is reduced back to iodide by the bisulphite I2 + HSO3в€’ + H2O в†’ 2 Iв€’ + HSO4в€’ + 2 H+ Consequently the iodine will react with the starch to create the coloured solution; this will only occur once the bisulphite is fully consumed (Unomaha, 2016). Throughout the course of these chemical reactions, the rate at which the reaction occurs takes place

His remarks on representing his culture to the media in interviews, paired with the African music and political clips of fighting reminded audiences of the greater societal implications. Before the fight we are never shown Ali being too close to anyone specifically, always being somewhat removed. But, in the morning after the fight, we see Ali bent down to hug and kiss a young girl. This is an incredibly tender moment; not only breaking down the wall between him and his followers, but it brings him back akin to the earth after he has been exalted to the status of a God. Nevertheless, because this moment occurs directly after the fight, it not only humanises Ali, but it sets the stage for him to move beyond boxing and into the rest of his life. Young University of Southern California Over the last year, the media has done an excellent job in bringing national exposure to the culture of police brutality within African American communities. Fortunately, social media alongside the growing accessibility to smartphones has assisted in bringing these intentional violations to the forefront of the national debate, creating a new form of activism, commonly referred to as social media activism ( Policing The Police and Prosecuting The Clan, n.d.; Pooly, 2011). However, is this new form of social activism, through social media, producing real, tangible change in the fight against discrimination and social injustices in America? Historically, the driving force behind successful social movements is effective organizing. Most attribute the success of the Civil Rights Movement to the impressionistic images of dramatic confrontations with police dogs and African Americans people being hosed down with water in the streets, however, it was rooted in a hybrid of extremely intentional efforts, which included civil disobedience, grass roots organizing with intense political mobilization, economic withdrawal, via mass boycotts and sit ins, and sensational community leaders/activists who are able to evoke intense emotional connections, galvanizing the black community to act in

There are few people in Great Britain and Ireland today who have not yet heard of Oliver Cromwell and either loathe him or see him as a hero. Yet, the world is not black and white and so is the truth about Cromwell. In order to understand his role in both countries as a whole, one has to look at the perspective of both nations, Cromwell s beliefs and his motives. Oliver Cromwell s religious belief was one of the most important influences on his doings and shaped his way of thinking immensely. Cromwell was a highly religious man and member of Puritans. Throughout history, Cromwell has been portrayed in very different lights, especially in Great Britain. It is an undeniable fact that Cromwell contributed some good to his country. For instance, numerous laws were made less severe and politics as well as justice less corrupt. In matters of religion, he granted freedom of worship. Yet, after his death Cromwell was seen as a tyrant and a king slayer and the people were tired of living under such strict rules. Regarding politics, debates arose about what effect he had on the political system after his death. It is incontrovertible that his rule was one of the turning points in British history, as Cromwell ensured that a king would never be able to rule on his own. However, nowhere is Cromwell more associated with fevered anti Catholicism and murder than in Ireland. Cromwell came to Ireland in 1649 pursuing two objectives: to place the island firmly under the control of British leaders and to suppress those Royalists who wanted to return to the status quo, in which English monarchy ruled. Those Loyalists and also Irish Catholics were especially a thorn in the side of Cromwell, as he believed they were all potential traitors and willing to help any Catholic uprising that wanted to attack England. Cromwell personified the anti Catholicism of his time and he believed he was carrying out the orders from God by taming the Irish. His first target was Drogheda, a town in which he slaughtered thousands of Irish people.

Student Collaboration In January 2010, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, delivered a speech at the National Press Club entitled A New Path Forward: Four Approaches to Quality Teaching and Better Schools. In this speech, Weingarten called for more collaboration: Imagine a system in which teachers have time to come together to resolve student issues, share lesson plans, analyze student work, discuss successes and failures, and learn through high quality professional development. Imagine a system in which students can t fall through the cracks because they re backed by a team of teachers, not just the one at the front of the room. Finally, an additional reason for Urban s calling for a so called Crusade was that he felt the lands of Christ needed to be reclaimed and in the control of Christianity not in the hands of infidels . Jerusalem is at the centre of the Christian faith and is the religions birth place. It is the land in which Jesus was crucified and then, as Christians believe, bought back to life in a miracle event. Urban said in his speech, wrest that land from the wicked race, that land which the scripture says floweth with milk and honey and was given by god to the children of Israel . By these few words we can understand why Urban felt so strongly that it the land of Christians and why he ordered for it to be reclaimed, even if it mean death. At the time of Urban s speech Jerusalam was under the rule of Muslim, who also have a strong attachment with the land as it is the place where the holy prophet descended to heaven. Urban however believed that it belonged to the Christians and therefore ordered it to be reclaimed in the name of god . Pope Urban ll called for a Crusade at the Council of Clermont to claim back what he believed rightfully belonged to the Christians and unite the Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches.
