he was also a founding Trustee of the National Museum of the American Indian. One of his most

A Conservationist s Stance On Dam Removal
A Conservationist s Stance on Dam Removal
Dams. They re such a controversial topic in today s society. Some people think they re doing
good for our world, while others believe that they re negatively impacting the atmosphere in
which we live. They don t take into consideration all the harms they re doing for creatures such as
fish. Animals aren t the only things they re affecting. These dams are playing a huge role in
transportation for shipping goods. It s not a good thing at all. In fact, people s recreational
activities are also being limited due to the dams.
Dams are harming salmon in so many ways. They re taking away their habitat. The salmon s
access of the rivers are suddenly gone. In the Northwest, a large portion of dollars are spent in a
year to fix all the damage to the salmon, caused by the dams on the Snake and Columbia rivers.
For decades, there have been numerous debates about taking down these dams to help the fish,
because they re part of the endangered species act. There are biologists that notice how some
salmon are trying to survive in rivers located in the Northwest that have been changed by dams.
These fish are simply delaying migration back to the sea, growing larger in order to survive their
trip back to the Pacific Ocean, and going back to their birth streams at higher rates than ever. All
these salmon could be saving themselves instead of people spending billions of dollars. The
consequences of this could be very important. The recovery of salmon

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen
In mid 2001, it was reported that former bassist Justin Sane had attempted suicide by drinking
excessive amounts of cough syrup. The attempt had an impact on the band s Take Action Tour.
After lead guitarist Synyster Gates joined the band, at the end of 1999 when he was 18, the
introductory track To End the Rapture was re recorded featuring a full band element. The album
was subsequently re released on Hopeless Records in 2002. The band started to receive recognition,
performing with bands such as Mushroomhead and Shadows Fall and playing on the Take Action
Tour.
Having found a new bassist, Johnny Christ, the group released their second studio album titled
Waking the Fallen on Hopeless Records in August 2003. The album featured a more refined and
mature sound production in comparison to their previous album. The band received profiles in
Billboard and The Boston Globe, and played in the Vans Warped Tour. In 2004, Avenged
Sevenfold toured again on the Vans Warped Tour and recorded a video for their song Unholy

Separation Of Powers Dbq Essay
The founders of the Constitution had to make a document that would give powers to the people yet
also protect against one or more person getting too powerful. This is called tyranny, or a
government with absolute power. They protected against it by creating Federalism, Separation of
powers, Checks and balances, and Bicameral legislative. This allowed us to have a constitution that
guards against suppressive tyrants.
One of the guards against tyranny is Federalism. Federalism is the sharing of powers between
federal and state governments. This allows an equal balance of power that the states and the federal
governments have and share between one another. One example is that both state and federal can
tax money. Yet only the federal can coin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This made it so the House of representation was distributed among states based on their population.
While in the senate, it was equally distributed with two representatives per a state. The Constitution
stated, Representatives...shall be appointed...according to...population and the senate of the United
states shall be composed of two senators from each state (Document D). This means that the states
would be represented in different ways. This would make the big and little states still want to
ratify the Constitution. It protects against tyranny as it allows the voices of the people to be
heard. Whether that is from the house or the senate, or by big or little states, it will still be had by
voters. This makes it so the government doesn t forget the people and

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film,...
The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark
film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the
film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego,
Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and
connect with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel
to the 2002 film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring
hallmarks of the film. Through enrapturing cinematographic techniques, dynamic secondary
characters, and a reflective artistic context, Spiderman Stops the Train has... Show more content on

Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo
much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character.
Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he
will either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the
secondary characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful,
skeptical, and mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from
the only person Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator.
Quite possibly, his initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers
perspectives of their present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed,
this fear turns into mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s
thoughts: Any more bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one
of the first people to prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a
character change. The gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their
symbolic gesture of bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful
silence. Perhaps their trust and loyalty may be most evident when,

Boo Radley Stereotypes
In our culture we place people in boxes, and attach stereotypes to different types of people. It is
difficult to break free from the conventional ways of our pasts. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird
by Harper Lee a character defines the way we as a society view stereotypes. Boo Radley is an
important character in To Kill a Mockingbirdyet the only time we have actually witnessed him is
the very last scene of the book. Readers only hear town gossip, and see small kindnesses from
him in the form of trinkets hidden in trees.Boo radley is a symbol for the misconceptions and

She could visualize how it must have been for this scared man to come outside and do the things

Examples Of Moral Philosophy
Moral Philosophy is the rational study of the meaning and justification of moral claims. A moral
claim evaluates the rightness or wrongness of an action or a person s character . For example,
stealing is wrong claims that the act of stealing is wrong, and people should not be dishonest claims
a character trait (i.e. dishonesty) is wrong (Gert and Gert). Descriptively, moralityrefers to certain
codes of conduct put forward by a society or a group (such as a religion) or accepted by an
individual for his/her own behavior. Normatively, it refers to a code of conduct that, given
specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons. ( What Is Moral Philosophy? ).

On a conscious level, a greater appreciation for philosophical subjects become the result of
exposure to such theories. During my research, I came across the article The Nature of Morality
and Moral Theories in which I discovered excerpts of philosophical theories and based on this
article, I will briefly mention significant points of four theories. First and foremost, is the theory
of Moral Subjectivism, which implies that an individual s thoughts and feelings determine moral
actions; as oppose to a set of moral principles. Following, is the theory Ethical Egoism, which
states that determining right and wrong is in accordance with one s self interest. Also, that it is
immoral to act contrary to one s own self interest. Thirdly, some individuals agree that culture
determines what actions are morally right or wrong; and are advocates of Cultural Relativism.
Their actions are not guided by a list of moral rules or universal norms. Next, Virtue Ethics claim
that right and wrong are characterized in terms of acting in accordance with the traditional virtues;
making a good person . ( The Nature Morality and Moral Theories ). These theories along with
numerous others, suggests various means for defining human behavior from an ethical

Keiurig Green Mountain Coffee Marketing Strategy
Coffee is a highly recognised aphrodisiac: the caffeine in the coffee endorses hormones that
create sexual drive. But, if you re looking to get laid tonight, don t choose Keurig Green

brew is weak and watery, there is no fine line between bitter or acidic and overly creamy, and the
lasting residue is something you don t want on your tongue.
Keurig is a nationally renowned company. It was founded by some guy somewhere, that nobody
really cares about, and apparently he liked coffee. And apparently it wasn t a passion strong
enough to make good coffee. As of today the company has sold out 80 various brands and
demeaned their 575 beverage varieties. Some of the the brands include, Van Houtte, Donut House,
Tierney s Iced Tea Co., Green Mountain Coffee, and Starbucks. Truthfully, I ve never even heard
of half of these companies that must explain the situation. As for the Keurig brewing system, it is

O Pioneers By Willa Cather
O Pioneers by Willa Cather follows a group of frontiersmen trying to survive in the harsh
conditions of the untamed west. The story follows the Bergsons, but more descriptively, the main
character, a girl named Alexandra Bergson. Throughout the story, Alexandra grows up to her full
potential and we are able to see her character just as rich and as mesmerizing as Willa hoped to
achieve. This is the character that Willa decides to revolve her story around and makes the reader
fully understand who the novelis truly about. Using this assumption, readers can conclude that O
Pioneers derives from Willa s real life experiences especially when dealing with her love life.
At the very beginning of the novel, Alexandra was given a huge responsibility. With her father
passing away it was up to her to inherit the farm and make it thrive. She was young, but very
determined and in that introspect, she was able to make the farm a huge success. For the time
period, this achievement was very difficult to obtain especially for a woman. This to me, could

ridiculous (pg 64). In the time period, homosexuality wasn t as widely accepted as it is today
and she might have also thought that she was foolish for feeling that way. At the time she might
have wanted to be in a relationship but refused because of her inner feelings stopping her.
However at the end she knows Carl is the one she loves and says, I should never feel free again. But

Essay on The Food of the Gods
The Food of the Gods
For over 2000 years, chocolate in its many forms has been enjoyed and its effects have been
exalted. It was believed that the Mexican god Quetzalcoatl left the cocoa tree for the people. The
Aztec emperor Montezuma is reported to have consumed 50 goblets of chocolate a day. It is
called the food of the gods, literally, as a translation of Theobroma Cacao, the cacao bean. (1).
Such a title must imply that chocolate has some naturally occurring superior quality. Why else
would we crave it so much more than other foods? For many people, nothing can take the place of
chocolate when a craving hits.
Chocolate and cocoa have very complex chemical properties and many components. Among the
most researched components ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a tetrahydroisoquinoline, (TIQ), or alkaloid of dopamine found endogenous in mammalian
brains, and also found in cocoa and chocolate. This research has claimed that salsolinol seems to be
one of the main psychoactive compounds present in cocoa and chocolate and might be included in
chocolate addiction. Similar compounds have the effect of inhibition of monoamine oxidase (a
substance that reduces the amounts of norepinepherine acting on neurons), mirroring the effect of
MAO inhibitors which are commonly used as antidepressants. Other effects reflect this general
antidepressant influence on the brain. Interestingly, salsolinol was also found to bind with a
relatively high affinity to D3 receptors, a subtype of dopamine receptor which is implicated in
reward. This may be a factor in the rewarding properties which some people find chocolate to
possess. Overall, this study suggested that chocolate may have the ability to
psychopharmacologically induce craving and even addiction, especially in persons who are inclined
to become addicted to other things. (5).
Some research has found that chocolate has the capability to stimulate the production of the body s
endogenous opioids, or endorphins. Endorphins work on opioid receptors in the body, the same
receptors on which morphine, heroin and other analgesics work, to cause relief from pain, create
feelings of well being and even euphoria. Although scientists claim that one must eat many pounds

The Impact Of Guided Reflection On Self-Care Behavior
Implications Theoretically, there is dearth of literature addressing the impact of guided reflection
on self care behavior. To date, only one study within the heart failure population has combined the
theory of self care of chronic illness and Gibbs reflective cycle framework to evaluate the impact of
guided reflection on self care behaviors (Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, this study is the first
to combine the two frameworks within the DM population. Based on statistical analyses and
qualitative data from this study, there are opportunities for further exploration of the combined
frameworks in future studies to illuminate the constructs of the self care theory and possibly theory
/ instruments modification and development. In this study, guided reflection was found to improve
DM knowledge which serves as a starting point for behavior change. Furthermore, guided reflection
has been shown to positively impact self care behaviors (Mamykina et al., 2008; Sethares Asselin,
2017). Importantly, the targeted population was satisfied with the guided reflection intervention
and requested that it be promoted among others with DM. Participants perspective is important
when planning and developing nursing interventions. Considering the evidence, the opportunity
exists to educate patients and/ caregivers to engage in guided reflection using Gibbs reflective
questions to promote adequate self care. This is an auspicious moment to teach healthcare

A Randomized Control Trial, Usher, Alcock, And Petra
In a randomized control trial by Smith, Usher, Alcock, and Petra (2013), the researchers aim to
determine whether the use of NeoWrap, a polyethylene occlusive wrap, immediately after birth was
more effective than standard protocol to control hypothermia in NICU admissions. Participants
consist of 92 infants under 27 weeks of gestation and 44 infants less than 30 weeks gestation. The
infants are randomly assigned to be in either the control or the intervention group; the control group
is transferred under the prewarmed heater immediately after birth, dried and wrapped with
prewarmed towels, and applied a hat. The intervention group is wrapped from the neck the down
with the polyethylene wrap before being transferred to the prewarmed heater and undergoing the
aforementioned process. World Health Organization s definition for hypothermia, as cited by Smith
et al. (2013), is a temperatureof less than 36.5 degrees Celsius. This parameter was used by the
researchers, and the temperatures of the infants were taken upon birth and upon NICU admissions
as well as admission time for both the control and intervention groups. The temperature was taken
axillary on the infantat birth, upon admission to the NICU and every 30 minutes using a digital

As for George Milton he desires a life of self employment. Milton was only working on the ranch
to achieve his goal of self employment. Milton was going to save money he earned from
working on the ranch, buy a small piece of land, and cultivate it. Secondly, the silent grotesques
around Williard gives him a reason to leave, and the vulgar ranch workers surrounding Milton
leads him to the point of leaving. Looking at the people around Williard first shows Williard to
be a voice for the grotesques and a youthful ear that receives valuable advice for the future. For
example; Wash Williams warns young Williard of women, Wing Biddlebaum shows him how
one moment changed his life forever, and Dr. Parcival illustrates what will happen if ones main
goal is to be popular. And Williard saw these flaws transpiring in his life and knew the only way
to escape becoming like his neighbors were to leave Winesburg. Next, the vulgar ranch workers

workers at their worst when they kill Candy s old dog. From this he realizes that if they are that
amoral they can not be controlled and might kill again. He knows he must leave the ranch because
of them. Finally, the death of George Williard s mother is the biggest factor contributing to his
departure. Also the death of Lenny Small is Milton s biggest reason for leaving the ranch. In George

World War 1 Foreign Policy Essay
Foreign policy, is government strategy of dealing with other countries. The United States had an
open door policy where free flow of trade, investment, information, and culture were key principles
in foreign relations. Later we started to become an intervening military, involved with other nation
affairs, and wanting to promote liberty and democracy. The United Stateswanted to remake the

World War Iwas the first test of Wilson s belief that American power could make the world safe for
democracy . Before World War I, most of the interventions appropriated in the western hemisphere.
This became a time where the beliefs of imperialism, nationalism, and socialism were common
thoughts amongst Americans. However, once world spread about what is happening, in Europe,
Americans were split. British Americans defended England, German Americans sided with
Germany, and Irish Americans strongly opposed England. Others gave credence to, peace being
essential to enhance the efforts of social justice at home. War broke out in Europe, Wilson

Aboriginal Rights Of Aboriginal Cultures Into Canadian...
Aboriginals have faced histories and centuries of oppression. From a system of state sanctioned
apartheid, institutionalized racism, and de facto discrimination, aboriginals across Canada have
been marginalized, victimized and alienated. Treated unjustly by federal and provincial
governments, and by the legal system, aboriginals faced de jure segregation through policies of
assimilation within residential schools, land reserves, and potlatch bans for the intention of
dissolving aboriginal cultures into Canadian society. Moreover, under the doctrine of discovery,
doctrine of occupation, and doctrine of adverse possession which elevated the rights of Canadians,
aboriginals were forced out of their native lands and disenfranchised. To this day, although
significant improvements to Aboriginal rights have been made, the tradition continues, as
aboriginals still face systemic prejudices and stigmas within greater society and kept out of the
bastions of opportunity. Since the affirmation of the Constitution Act in 1982, the court has
acquired massive roles within interpreting and concentrating the broad texts of what necessitates
aboriginal rights.
In 1982, the federal government of Canada enshrined the rights of Aboriginals in Section 35(1) of
the Constitution Act, hereby recognizing and affirming the existing aboriginal and treaty rights of
the aboriginal peoples of Canada. Although the Constitution Act played a vital role in setting a
resolute framework in establishing the

Cuban Swimmer Character Analysis
Cuban Swimmer is a one act play which uses the concept of magical reality style. The drama
portrays the struggles of a Cuban family in America. Margarita Suarez, the main character is
competing in the Women s swim to Catalina. The rest of the family Eduardo Suarez the father of
margarita, her mother Aida, Simon her brother and Abuela her grandmother have come to give her
moral support. The writer seems to have written this play out of the experience because she was an
immigrant at some point in her life. Milcha Sanchez has depicted themes of religion, relationships,
ethnicity, identity crisis and persistence in her play.
First, religion is the dominant theme in the play. Milcha portrays Religion in various ways in the
script. Margarita and her family are staunch Christians who believe in God and Hail Mary.
Whenever something terrible occurs, they always pray for example when Mel calls them
peasants, simple people, and amateurs, they all go to pray. Margarita seeks for God s intervention
when she sinks into the ocean, and no one was near to help her. After margarita disappearing,
Simon asks god why everything had to be hard. Eduardo, on the other hand, asks God to take him
instead of her children. He says they are his dreams and he loves them very much.
Self identity is another theme that the writer explores in the Cuban Swimmer. At first, Mel the
journalist hopes the family would not get too disappointed if Margarita would not have won. Mel
means he had already predicted

Robert Nozick s The Experience Machine
Robert Nozick s The Experience Machine poses the question: if you had the opportunity to be
plugged into a machine that would simulate a life you had prechosen, would you plug in? Nozick
describes being in the machine as a type of suicide and there are many reasons as to why this
machine would be just that. For example, humanbeings are inherently creatures that learn by
observation, therefore, if you have never observed or practiced what it is to be brave, loving,
kind, or honest, you wouldn t have the capacity in you to possess those traits. Another problem
with this machine is that you re going to know what comes next in your life . These good times
would not seem so good, because you would have no bad times to compare against. Without

The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment...
identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social
environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and
institutions. In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were
the creation of a print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of
nationalism, the enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the
capitalist system which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit
margin which lead to the development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for
regular people to read the ideas printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread
the ideas and values of these cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written
language changed its role forever. In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the
political, intellectual, or religious elite. The religious elite especially relied on the control of the
written word to control and influence the thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not
all religions across the world. A consequence of written language being used by the common people
to spread the ideas of the enlightenment allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by
divine right. The spread of rationalism in turn encouraged the use of rational discourse amongst the
common people,

Hawaii s Antithetic Cultures
There are many different factors that affect what Hawaiians eat, and some of them aren t as
obvious as you might think. Unlike what most people think pineapples are not the most prevalent
food in Hawaii (unless you go to the tourist places then it will be the most abundant thing that you
will find). This is a result of the unique limitations that are present in Hawaii, that are not seen in
most of the world. Since Hawaii has a lot of antithetical cultures that affects their fooddramatically,
you can see this in the traditional food, and the roles that the people paid in society. Unlike our

One of the most famous dishes in Hawaii is poi, it is even served in some not Hawaiian fast food
places. Poi, is made from the taro plant s root that have been mashed and mixed with water,
giving it the consistency of mashed potatoes. It was most commonly served underneath the other
things on the plate, much like rice or regular mashed potatoes in other cultures. Taro, as stated by
Andwhae Grows in patches with cool running water , taro is one of the most common edible
plant s on the Hawaiian islands. It was also very easy to harvest since it was located on the
ground and you only had to forage for it. The most plentiful source of meat that Hawaiians have
is fish, the second being the local wild hogs that inhabited most of the islands. Fishing was a big
part of Hawaiian culture and played a great role in their religion as well. The people who fished
(which were men) were one of the highest roles in society only below the chieftain and holy
comunicarii. And, as Hawaii is a tropic island they have an abundance of vegetables and other
plants that they could easily cultivate as a result of the rich soil and almost constant rain. Unlike

Comparing Wilfred Owen And Jarrell
War Poetry: Analysis
Both Owen and Jarrell share the pains of war. Using literary devices such as diction, imagery,
and inner thoughts. Besides just the basics of literary devices the poets also use their close
affiliation of war to help express the true disasters that not many people knew of. They possessed
unusual sensibility. When digging a little deeper you are fully able to compare Owen s Dulce et
Decorum Est and Jarrell s Death of the Ball Turret Gunner.
At first glance Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est is blatantly organized. In fact, it is comprised
of multiple stanzas. But that is Owen s purposeful structure. When delving further into the poem
you truly start to see Owen s intentions. While some poets romanticized war, Wilfred

How Do People Communicate Personal Information On The...
Today we can t imagine our existence without the Internet, it came to our everyday life not so
long ago, but now everything requires the Internet, whether you need to fill out a job application,

People can document and record each other s norm violation, and they can then post it online. It
all began on a subway train in South Korea. A young woman s small dog pooped in the train.
Other passengers asked her to clean it up, but she told them to mind their own business. That s
when it moved over to cyberspace and became even uglier. Someone took photos of her and
posted them on a popular Korean blog. [...] Across the internet, people made posters with the girl

migrated to the mainstream media, becoming national news in South Korea. As a result of her
public shaming and embarrassment, the dog poop girl dropped out of her university. (Solove 2)

what items should be produced based on current styles, while product managers have the authority

Both Inditex s Chairman, Amancio Ortega, and its CEO, Jose Maria Castellano Rios a former IT
manager, believe that computers and technology are imperative to the execution of the company s
strategy. Inditex does not have a CIO. Instead, a technology steering committee, including Ortega

level attention to the opportunities offered by information systems, no cost/benefit analysis of IT
projects is undertaken and there is no formal procedure for determining which projects will be

to write its own applications, as opposed to buying commercially available software, because it
believes this is the only way to meet its unique business needs. When developing production and

The Human Embryonic Stem Cells
Since the discovery of human embryonic stem cells, scientists have had high hopes for their use in
treating a wider variety of diseases because they are pluripotent, which means they are capable of
differentiating into one of many cell types in the body.
However, the acquisition of human embryonic stem cells from an embryo can cause the destruction
of the embryo, thus raising ethical concerns. In 2006, researchers introduced an alternative to
harvesting embryonic stem cells called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. They provided
evidence that it was possible to send a normal adult cell back to an undifferentiated, pluripotent stem
cell state by introducing genetic material ( outside DNA) into the cell, a process that alters the
original state of the cell.
To avoid the use of embryonic stem cells, other researchers have focused more on the use of adult
stem cells, but the use of these cells is limited because, unlike embryonic stem cells that grow into
any type of mature cell, adult stem cells can only grow into certain cell types.
Now, researchers from Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH), in collaboration
with the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Japan, have demonstrated that any mature
adult cell (a somatic cell) has the potential to turn into the equivalent of an embryonic stem cell. In
an article to be published in the Jan. 30 issue of Nature, researchers demonstrate, in a preclinical
model, a novel and unique way that cells can be

The Isolation Of Women During The Victorian Era
1.This quote goes back to the concept of isolation and independence. Here just like in the
beginning of the book, Jane feels isolated and alone and feels like no one can help and ironically it
is her cousins who alienated her to begin with but now are bringing her in.
2. Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles.
Here Bronte shows the absurdity of gender restriction and attempts to shed light on the fact that
women during the Victorian era had no rights and were too restricted.

Dwarf Planet Ceres Research Paper
Ceres Exploration This space based planetary exploration mission targets the dwarf planet Ceres,
which is the mission subject, or more specifically, the surface of the dwarf planet is the subject.
The surface of Ceres is covered in countless small, young craters (Davis, n.d.). Within some of
Ceres craters, there are regions that are always in shadow. It s possible that without direct
sunlight, these cold traps could have water ice in them for long periods of time (Davis, n.d.).
The sign of water on the dwarf planet could mean big for the scientists in earth. It suggests a
possible sign of life on the dwarf planet. The mission s objectives are to study the surface of
Ceres to find water or signs of water and, if water is found, study the possibility of life on the
dwarf planet. A rover will be the payload of the mission, trying to carry out the mission s objectives.
The mission duration will be an unlimited amount of time or until total and permanent
communication loss happens with the rover. This mission will ultimately benefit NASA and

Benefits of Congestion Charge in Tokyo
Benefits of Congestion Charge in Tokyo
Since the 1940s, motorization has increased rapidly around the world, particularly private vehicles.
The trend has created both economic and individual benefits. The development resulted in the
prosperity of the metropolis, while regional areas declined steeply in scale. In Japan, the least
number of vehicles per household by prefecture was Tokyo with 0.497(Automobile Inspection
Association, 2009). Nevertheless, there are chronic enormous traffic jams in Tokyo. Congestion
charging systems have been considered because many suburbanites have gathered to work, study

In 1997, likewise, Japan organised the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change. The treaty (United Nations, 1998) indicates:
It was to establish a legally binding international agreement, whereby all the participating nations
commit themselves to tackling the issue of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions.
Although Japan s target was a reduction of 6% from 1990 levels by the year 2012, it might be
difficult to achieve the objective, but the definite charging plan might inspire Japan to approach the
aim effectively.
A heated debate about the influence on car businesses has become another argument against the
use of congestion charge. It has been contended that car consumption would experience a sharp
decrease owing to the new device (Environment of Tokyo, 2010). It has been also claimed that
the automobile industry, which has been protected by the Japanese government since World War
II and taken the major role in the economy (University of Tokyo, 2004), would lose the power
and might be difficult to compete with foreign companies. On the positive side, it has been
asserted that the changes could be a large number of opportunities for the Japanese motor vehicle
industry because the new technologies, such as electric cars and hybrid ones, could be developed
(Nakamura,2010). These cars could provide not only cheaper charging costs and repairing fees for
drivers but also reductions in air

In today s society, abortions are seen as a sensitive topic; which has resulted in critical debates as
to whether it is human or not. Throughout history, abortions have been seen as shameful which
caused many women to conceal their stories. Society has put external pressure on women, which
leaves the impression that they must regret their decisions. This is seen in the March 2016

To begin, we will look into Thomas Hobbes, an English philosopher. If Hobbes was still living in
today s society he would advocate for legalizing abortions due to the simple reason he declared
that everyone has a right to everything; even to one another s body, so that there can be no
security of life for anyone (QUOTE 14). This declaration means that Hobbes would argue that
women should be allowed to abort their pregnancies for whatever reason because it is their own
body and they have the right to do with it as they shall. Referring back to the article 14 women

Hobbes would say that they should have spoken up sooner because no one gives anything to

Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window Essay
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window
In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window, L.B. Jeffries, played by Jimmy Stewart, becomes completely
obsessed with spending all of his waking hours watching his neighbors from his wheelchair. He
even uses a camera to better his view and thus enhances his role as both a spectator and a voyeur.
This contributes to the creation of a movie being played right outside Jeffries window. In this
movie within the movie his neighbors lives become the subject for the plot. Each window
represents a different film screen, each which is focused upon only when Jeffries directs his
attention to it. He witnesses both the anxieties associated with the beginning of a marriage and the

His wife seems to whine and constantly want him to be with her in bed. Upon this observation,
Jeffries gains the perception of marriage as a physically and emotionally exhausting life.
The majority of the film deals with the events occurring within the Thorwald apartment. In many
ways the Thorwalds marriage parallels Lisa and Jeffries relationship, except with a reversal in
gender. Lisa and Lars Thorwald, both mobile and healthy, strive to make their respective
relationships work. Thorwald brings his wife dinner in bed decorated with a rose. She only laughs
at this gesture. On the other side, Lisa cannot even gain Jeffries attention by sitting in his lap. Mrs.
Thorwald and Jeffries, who are both physically restrained, only complain to their partners. The
Thorwald apartment becomes of particular interest when Jeffries begins to suspect murder. He
believes that Thorwald finally became so tired of his nagging wife that he butchered her with a
knife and saw. After some time he even convinces Lisa of his accusation, which in turn adds
another gazer to the rear window. This makes her more important to Jeffries in that he can now
discuss what is going on with someone who will listen. She still does not obtain his full attention
until she crosses over into the plot within the Thorwald apartment. When Lisa becomes the subject
of the gaze, then, and only then, is Jeffries attracted to her.

and popular merchant in Boston, accused Johnny of stealing one of the cups that belong to Jonathan
Lyte. Luckily during the case, Cilla was there to support Johnny. According to Jonathan Lyte,
someone stole one of his silver cups in August, however Johnny Tremain had showed the silver cup
to Cilla on July. That proves that Johnny did not steal Jonathan Lytes silver cup and the silver cup
belonged to Johnny Tremain. Johnny was betrayed by his own family, which pretended that they

Gold And Its Impact On The Economy
Throughout history, gold has been viewed as an asset with high intrinsic value which was
flocked to during tumultuous times. The price of gold has typically fluctuated with political,
economic and inflationary threats, falling during booming markets and rising in recession.
Since the precious metal doesn t generate cash flow, its value has been closely tied to the status
of the economy. Yet, gold is failing to prove its counter cyclical nature in recent years. Tracing
back gold s history reveals its theoretical appeal has been as crisis insurance with the value of the
precious metal independent of anything else in the economy. However, as the perception of gold
shifts away from a safe haven investment, the value of gold could be severely impacted, turning
investors to alternatives forms of hedging market volatility. Is Gold Counter Cyclical? In the world
economy, gold is one of the most complicated assets to price. Unlike stocks, currencies and other
commodities, the value of the precious metal isn t determined by fundamentals or supply and
demand. Instead, it has been widely thought that gold moves inversely with the strength of the
economy. When the economy is doing well and growing, gold prices tend to fall and vice versa
when the economy contracts. This happens because gold holds high intrinsic value in the eyes of
investors, whether its in the form of jewelry or financial investments. That said, many
macroeconomic variables in booming and busting economies play a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Natural Fibers
Natural fibers represent environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional reinforcing fibers
(glass, carbon, kevlar). Because of their hollow and cellular nature, natural fibers perform as
acoustic and thermal insulators and exhibit reduced bulk density [33, 34]. Some of the
disadvantages and limitations of natural fibers, when used as reinforcement for composites, are
related to the lack of proper interfacial adhesion, poor resistance to moisture absorption, limited
processing temperature to about 200В°C, and low dimensional stability (shrinkage, swelling).
Researches are being done to improve these properties and are implemented continuously [35, 36].
The fibersurface heterogeneities such as surface defects, impurities, surface flaws, etc. affect the
mechanical properties of the composites remarkably. Modification of fiber surface is generally
used in order to reduce the surface defects, improve the adhesion between the fiber and the matrix,
and hence the mechanical properties of the composites [37].
The disadvantages of natural fibers can be handled by modifications of the fiber but may make
composites expensive. Apart from the use of these fiber composites in outdoor applications, these
can be used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Greatest Athlete of All Time On June 14, 1998, with twenty one seconds left of game six of
the NBA Finals, Michael Jordan stole the ball away from Karl Malone and ran the ball up to

With nine seconds left Jordan charged towards the basket dribbling with his right hand with his

dribbled into a stepback crossover from his right hand into his left hand leaving his defender on the
hardwood floor. He pulled up for the twenty foot jumper and drained it for the game winning shot.

The Development And Maintenance Of Civilization Essay
Over the course of human history, order within society, through its many facets, has been
considered to be a vital part of the development and maintenance of civilization. One such aspect
of order, however, is arguably more important than all other characteristics: the creation and usage
of social constructs. A social construct is defined as a social mechanism, phenomenon, or category
created and developed by society, which aids in either the development or regression of society as
a whole. While more commonly known constructs such as race and gendershape the mindsets of
societies and civilizations as a whole over periods of time, the consequences of the existence of the
construct itself can have both a positive or negative affect. Additionally, many social constructs are
interconnected with each other, not exactly through topic matter but rather by the relationships and
connections they establish with aspects of society and its influence upon it. However, race and
gender are not the only constructs that shape mindsets and opinions, many lesser known ones also
affect changes within society. Such examples include the constructs of higher educationand gender
bias, two seemingly different aspects of society and ideals. However, although they do not
explicitly mention each other, Linda Lee and Anne Fausto Sterling establish a clear connection
between the two, especially in their dealings with societal development in their respective essays

Palm Oil Industry and Its Effects on the Indigenous...
Rainforests are the most diverse biomes on the earth. The rainforest house many different species
and support the lives of the indigenous tribes who depend on the forests for habitat, food, and
way of life. The palm oil companies are spreading to many parts of the world, taking out regions of
the forest in order to make room for their palm oilplantations. Palm oil is found in 50% of
products we use every day from items like shampoo and conditioner to the food we eat (Rainforest

resource. The trees naturally filter out all the dirt and sand and particles that are unwanted in your
water. If the forest is depleted much more effort will have to be put into making the water clean,
which is easy in a wealthy society but not for the tribes. They don t have a water treatment system.
Also, the treatment of palm oil plants can affect the fish living in the streams. According to John
Ashley, the managers of these plantations apply very toxic pesticides to these plants which gets

Drag Queens Perform Gender
This project is focused on drag queens and the extent to which they perform gender. Many scholars
have looked at the performance of gender within the context of the gender binary. Many scholars,
feel that drag breaks down this binary whereas others feel that the binary and heteronormativity are
perpetuated by and instilled within drag. Regardless of the debate, it goes without question that
drag queens perform genderon stage.
The topic of drag queens performing gender is sociologically important for a variety of reasons.
One of the simplest is that there is not much literature or research on this topic and in a time where
transgender matters are a red button issue in the United States; I think it is important to highlight

Tauches states that gender is a socially constructed term and our behavior is supposed to be
contingent on our gender identity. The gender binary, being either female or male, allows people to
easily determine the sex of someone else. Butler feels that drag disrupts this binary and
heteronormativity. By performing a gender that may not match the anatomy underneath the
costume, a queen makes it hard to distinguish gender and blurs the lines of the binary. Tauches also
states that gender is based on what is considered legitimate or correct for a certain sex. This notion
is prevalent throughout the works of Bishop, Mann and Horowitz. Each work shows, to a certain
extent, how heteronormativity dictates not only how drag queens perform gender, but how they are
perceived. In Bishop s work, drag queens are viewed as less than in some cases because they do not
perform the correct masculine standard. In Mann s work, Suzanne performs gender by using
stereotypical feminine Southern language that is considered polite or correct for the regional
location. In Horowitz s work, queens emulate the hegemonic feminine standard while performing.
Contingent upon the work of Bishop, Mann and Horowitz, Tauches might state that drag queens
perform the socially constructed ideal of gender and the behavioral characteristics that accompany
the gender being

  • 3. A Conservationist s Stance On Dam Removal A Conservationist s Stance on Dam Removal Dams. They re such a controversial topic in today s society. Some people think they re doing good for our world, while others believe that they re negatively impacting the atmosphere in which we live. They don t take into consideration all the harms they re doing for creatures such as fish. Animals aren t the only things they re affecting. These dams are playing a huge role in transportation for shipping goods. It s not a good thing at all. In fact, people s recreational activities are also being limited due to the dams. Dams are harming salmon in so many ways. They re taking away their habitat. The salmon s access of the rivers are suddenly gone. In the Northwest, a large portion of dollars are spent in a year to fix all the damage to the salmon, caused by the dams on the Snake and Columbia rivers. For decades, there have been numerous debates about taking down these dams to help the fish, because they re part of the endangered species act. There are biologists that notice how some salmon are trying to survive in rivers located in the Northwest that have been changed by dams. These fish are simply delaying migration back to the sea, growing larger in order to survive their trip back to the Pacific Ocean, and going back to their birth streams at higher rates than ever. All these salmon could be saving themselves instead of people spending billions of dollars. The consequences of this could be very important. The recovery of salmon ... • 5. Separation Of Powers Dbq Essay The founders of the Constitution had to make a document that would give powers to the people yet also protect against one or more person getting too powerful. This is called tyranny, or a government with absolute power. They protected against it by creating Federalism, Separation of powers, Checks and balances, and Bicameral legislative. This allowed us to have a constitution that guards against suppressive tyrants. One of the guards against tyranny is Federalism. Federalism is the sharing of powers between federal and state governments. This allows an equal balance of power that the states and the federal governments have and share between one another. One example is that both state and federal can tax money. Yet only the federal can coin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that the states would be represented in different ways. This would make the big and little states still want to ratify the Constitution. The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego, Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and connect with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel to the 2002 film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring hallmarks of the film. Through enrapturing cinematographic techniques, dynamic secondary characters, and a reflective artistic context, Spiderman Stops the Train has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character. Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he will either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the secondary characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful, skeptical, and mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from the only person Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator. Quite possibly, his initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers perspectives of their present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed, this fear turns into mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s thoughts: Any more bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one of the first people to prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a character change. The gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their symbolic gesture of bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful silence. Perhaps their trust and loyalty may be most evident when, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First and foremost, is the theory of Moral Subjectivism, which implies that an individual s thoughts and feelings determine moral actions; as oppose to a set of moral principles. Following, is the theory Ethical Egoism, which states that determining right and wrong is in accordance with one s self interest. Also, that it is immoral to act contrary to one s own self interest. Thirdly, some individuals agree that culture determines what actions are morally right or wrong; and are advocates of Cultural Relativism. Their actions are not guided by a list of moral rules or universal norms. Keurig Green Mountain Coffee is a waste of desire, the brew is weak and watery, there is no fine line between bitter or acidic and overly creamy, and the lasting residue is something you don t want on your tongue. Keurig is a nationally renowned company. It was founded by some guy somewhere, that nobody really cares about, and apparently he liked coffee. And apparently it wasn t a passion strong enough to make good coffee. As of today the company has sold out 80 various brands and demeaned their 575 beverage varieties. Throughout the story, Alexandra grows up to her full potential and we are able to see her character just as rich and as mesmerizing as Willa hoped to achieve. This is the character that Willa decides to revolve her story around and makes the reader fully understand who the novelis truly about. Using this assumption, readers can conclude that O Pioneers derives from Willa s real life experiences especially when dealing with her love life. At the very beginning of the novel, Alexandra was given a huge responsibility. With her father passing away it was up to her to inherit the farm and make it thrive. • 12. Essay on The Food of the Gods The Food of the Gods For over 2000 years, chocolate in its many forms has been enjoyed and its effects have been exalted. It was believed that the Mexican god Quetzalcoatl left the cocoa tree for the people. The Aztec emperor Montezuma is reported to have consumed 50 goblets of chocolate a day. It is called the food of the gods, literally, as a translation of Theobroma Cacao, the cacao bean. (1). Such a title must imply that chocolate has some naturally occurring superior quality. Why else would we crave it so much more than other foods? For many people, nothing can take the place of chocolate when a craving hits. It is a tetrahydroisoquinoline, (TIQ), or alkaloid of dopamine found endogenous in mammalian brains, and also found in cocoa and chocolate. This research has claimed that salsolinol seems to be one of the main psychoactive compounds present in cocoa and chocolate and might be included in chocolate addiction. Similar compounds have the effect of inhibition of monoamine oxidase (a substance that reduces the amounts of norepinepherine acting on neurons), mirroring the effect of MAO inhibitors which are commonly used as antidepressants. Other effects reflect this general antidepressant influence on the brain. Interestingly, salsolinol was also found to bind with a relatively high affinity to D3 receptors, a subtype of dopamine receptor which is implicated in reward. This may be a factor in the rewarding properties which some people find chocolate to possess. Overall, this study suggested that chocolate may have the ability to psychopharmacologically induce craving and even addiction, especially in persons who are inclined to become addicted to other things. (5). Some research has found that chocolate has the capability to stimulate the production of the body s endogenous opioids, or endorphins. Endorphins work on opioid receptors in the body, the same receptors on which morphine, heroin and other analgesics work, to cause relief from pain, create feelings of well being and even euphoria. • 14. The Impact Of Guided Reflection On Self-Care Behavior Implications Theoretically, there is dearth of literature addressing the impact of guided reflection on self care behavior. To date, only one study within the heart failure population has combined the theory of self care of chronic illness and Gibbs reflective cycle framework to evaluate the impact of guided reflection on self care behaviors (Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, this study is the first to combine the two frameworks within the DM population. Based on statistical analyses and qualitative data from this study, there are opportunities for further exploration of the combined frameworks in future studies to illuminate the constructs of the self care theory and possibly theory / instruments modification and development. In this study, guided reflection was found to improve DM knowledge which serves as a starting point for behavior change. Furthermore, guided reflection has been shown to positively impact self care behaviors (Mamykina et al., 2008; Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, the targeted population was satisfied with the guided reflection intervention and requested that it be promoted among others with DM. A Randomized Control Trial, Usher, Alcock, And Petra In a randomized control trial by Smith, Usher, Alcock, and Petra (2013), the researchers aim to determine whether the use of NeoWrap, a polyethylene occlusive wrap, immediately after birth was more effective than standard protocol to control hypothermia in NICU admissions. Participants consist of 92 infants under 27 weeks of gestation and 44 infants less than 30 weeks gestation. The infants are randomly assigned to be in either the control or the intervention group; the control group is transferred under the prewarmed heater immediately after birth, dried and wrapped with prewarmed towels, and applied a hat. • 20. Aboriginal Rights Of Aboriginal Cultures Into Canadian... Aboriginals have faced histories and centuries of oppression. From a system of state sanctioned apartheid, institutionalized racism, and de facto discrimination, aboriginals across Canada have been marginalized, victimized and alienated. Treated unjustly by federal and provincial governments, and by the legal system, aboriginals faced de jure segregation through policies of assimilation within residential schools, land reserves, and potlatch bans for the intention of dissolving aboriginal cultures into Canadian society. Moreover, under the doctrine of discovery, doctrine of occupation, and doctrine of adverse possession which elevated the rights of Canadians, aboriginals were forced out of their native lands and disenfranchised. To this day, although significant improvements to Aboriginal rights have been made, the tradition continues, as aboriginals still face systemic prejudices and stigmas within greater society and kept out of the bastions of opportunity. Since the affirmation of the Constitution Act in 1982, the court has acquired massive roles within interpreting and concentrating the broad texts of what necessitates aboriginal rights. The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment... identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and institutions. In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were the creation of a print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of nationalism, the enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the capitalist system which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit margin which lead to the development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for regular people to read the ideas printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread the ideas and values of these cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written language changed its role forever. In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the political, intellectual, or religious elite. The religious elite especially relied on the control of the written word to control and influence the thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not all religions across the world. A consequence of written language being used by the common people to spread the ideas of the enlightenment allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by divine right. The Human Embryonic Stem Cells Since the discovery of human embryonic stem cells, scientists have had high hopes for their use in treating a wider variety of diseases because they are pluripotent, which means they are capable of differentiating into one of many cell types in the body. However, the acquisition of human embryonic stem cells from an embryo can cause the destruction of the embryo, thus raising ethical concerns. In 2006, researchers introduced an alternative to harvesting embryonic stem cells called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. They provided evidence that it was possible to send a normal adult cell back to an undifferentiated, pluripotent stem cell state by introducing genetic material ( outside DNA) into the cell, a process that alters the original state of the cell. To avoid the use of embryonic stem cells, other researchers have focused more on the use of adult stem cells, but the use of these cells is limited because, unlike embryonic stem cells that grow into any type of mature cell, adult stem cells can only grow into certain cell types. Now, researchers from Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH), in collaboration with the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Japan, have demonstrated that any mature adult cell (a somatic cell) has the potential to turn into the equivalent of an embryonic stem cell. In Japan, the least number of vehicles per household by prefecture was Tokyo with 0.497(Automobile Inspection Association, 2009). Nevertheless, there are chronic enormous traffic jams in Tokyo. The treaty (United Nations, 1998) indicates: It was to establish a legally binding international agreement, whereby all the participating nations commit themselves to tackling the issue of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. Although Japan s target was a reduction of 6% from 1990 levels by the year 2012, it might be difficult to achieve the objective, but the definite charging plan might inspire Japan to approach the aim effectively. A heated debate about the influence on car businesses has become another argument against the use of congestion charge. It has been contended that car consumption would experience a sharp decrease owing to the new device (Environment of Tokyo, 2010). It has been also claimed that the automobile industry, which has been protected by the Japanese government since World War II and taken the major role in the economy (University of Tokyo, 2004), would lose the power and might be difficult to compete with foreign companies. On the positive side, it has been asserted that the changes could be a large number of opportunities for the Japanese motor vehicle industry because the new technologies, such as electric cars and hybrid ones, could be developed (Nakamura,2010). • 36. I Am Sick Of Being Silenced By Thomas Hobbes And Mary... In today s society, abortions are seen as a sensitive topic; which has resulted in critical debates as to whether it is human or not. Throughout history, abortions have been seen as shameful which caused many women to conceal their stories. Society has put external pressure on women, which leaves the impression that they must regret their decisions. This is seen in the March 2016 Mashable article I am sick of being silenced : 14 women share their abortionstories as fourteen women acknowledge this external pressure when sharing their stories. If Hobbes was still living in today s society he would advocate for legalizing abortions due to the simple reason he declared that everyone has a right to everything; even to one another s body, so that there can be no security of life for anyone (QUOTE 14). This declaration means that Hobbes would argue that women should be allowed to abort their pregnancies for whatever reason because it is their own body and they have the right to do with it as they shall. It is an example people in general should follow. The quote is saying, if you do a good job on something, like an assignment or a task, you should waste your time seizing the moment for too long. If you did well on that one thing, you can do something great on something else. Continue that cycle and you ll do great all the time. Evolution of Importance: This quote explains my values as a worker and a student perfectly. I am not one to dwell off the good things I have done in the past, I try to do good things all the time. This way, I do not get arrogant or anything like that. Instead, I continue to keep up the good work and become a better student or worker. That is the most important thing. Muccino, G. (Director).... • 44. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Natural Fibers Natural fibers represent environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional reinforcing fibers (glass, carbon, kevlar). Because of their hollow and cellular nature, natural fibers perform as acoustic and thermal insulators and exhibit reduced bulk density [33, 34]. Some of the disadvantages and limitations of natural fibers, when used as reinforcement for composites, are related to the lack of proper interfacial adhesion, poor resistance to moisture absorption, limited processing temperature to about 200В°C, and low dimensional stability (shrinkage, swelling). Researches are being done to improve these properties and are implemented continuously [35, 36]. The fibersurface heterogeneities such as surface defects, impurities, surface flaws, etc. affect the mechanical properties of the composites remarkably. Modification of fiber surface is generally used in order to reduce the surface defects, improve the adhesion between the fiber and the matrix, and hence the mechanical properties of the composites [37]. • 47. The Development And Maintenance Of Civilization Essay Over the course of human history, order within society, through its many facets, has been considered to be a vital part of the development and maintenance of civilization. One such aspect of order, however, is arguably more important than all other characteristics: the creation and usage of social constructs. A social construct is defined as a social mechanism, phenomenon, or category created and developed by society, which aids in either the development or regression of society as a whole. While more commonly known constructs such as race and gendershape the mindsets of societies and civilizations as a whole over periods of time, the consequences of the existence of the construct itself can have both a positive or negative affect. Additionally, many social constructs are interconnected with each other, not exactly through topic matter but rather by the relationships and connections they establish with aspects of society and its influence upon it. However, race and gender are not the only constructs that shape mindsets and opinions, many lesser known ones also affect changes within society. Such examples include the constructs of higher educationand gender bias, two seemingly different aspects of society and ideals.
