Why Cornerstones?
 Children deserve a broad and balanced curriculum.
We believe that every childhood matters and that the
innate qualities children have, including creativity,
curiosity and a love of learning, should be fully
nurtured.
 Our curriculum is based on a child-centred pedagogy
we call The Four Cornerstones. It forms the basis of
everything we do and can provide your school with
the foundations on which to build a rich and deep,
exciting curriculum.
Why Cornerstones?
 The Cornerstones Curriculum helps children to:
 learn about a range of interesting topics in creative
ways
 develop skills, deep knowledge and understanding in
a range of subjects
 make meaningful cross-curricular links
 identify their interests and develop their passions
 find out about themselves, the wider world and their
place in it
 develop their confidence, resilience, happiness and
well-being.
 Engage
 hook learners in with a memorable experience
 set the scene and provide the context
 ask questions to provoke thought and interest
 use interesting starting points to spark children’s
curiosity
 Develop
 teach knowledge to provide depth of
 demonstrate new skills and allow time for
consolidation
 provide creative opportunities for making and
 deliver reading, writing and talk across the
curriculum
 Innovate
 provide imaginative scenarios for creative thinking
 enable and assess the application of previously
learned skills
 encourage enterprise and independent thinking
 work in groups and independently to solve
 Express
 encourage reflective talk by asking questions
 provide opportunities for shared evaluation
 celebrate success
 identify next steps for learning
Why Cornerstones?
 Cornerstones addresses the need identified in the
Ofsted report March 2018.
 It supports the broader curriculum and supports
resourcing.
 It gives teachers guidance and also efficacy.
 It provides an online assessment tool for year end
assessment.
 It supports our workload initiatives in regard to
planning, feedback and data management.
Why Cornerstones?
 I will now talk you through the Cornerstones site, its
features and how a teacher might use it.
 There will then be the opportunity to view some
children’s work.

Curriculum presentation

  • 3. Why Cornerstones?  Children deserve a broad and balanced curriculum. We believe that every childhood matters and that the innate qualities children have, including creativity, curiosity and a love of learning, should be fully nurtured.  Our curriculum is based on a child-centred pedagogy we call The Four Cornerstones. It forms the basis of everything we do and can provide your school with the foundations on which to build a rich and deep, exciting curriculum.
  • 4. Why Cornerstones?  The Cornerstones Curriculum helps children to:  learn about a range of interesting topics in creative ways  develop skills, deep knowledge and understanding in a range of subjects  make meaningful cross-curricular links  identify their interests and develop their passions  find out about themselves, the wider world and their place in it  develop their confidence, resilience, happiness and well-being.
  • 5.  Engage  hook learners in with a memorable experience  set the scene and provide the context  ask questions to provoke thought and interest  use interesting starting points to spark children’s curiosity
  • 6.  Develop  teach knowledge to provide depth of  demonstrate new skills and allow time for consolidation  provide creative opportunities for making and  deliver reading, writing and talk across the curriculum
  • 7.  Innovate  provide imaginative scenarios for creative thinking  enable and assess the application of previously learned skills  encourage enterprise and independent thinking  work in groups and independently to solve
  • 8.  Express  encourage reflective talk by asking questions  provide opportunities for shared evaluation  celebrate success  identify next steps for learning
  • 9. Why Cornerstones?  Cornerstones addresses the need identified in the Ofsted report March 2018.  It supports the broader curriculum and supports resourcing.  It gives teachers guidance and also efficacy.  It provides an online assessment tool for year end assessment.  It supports our workload initiatives in regard to planning, feedback and data management.
  • 10. Why Cornerstones?  I will now talk you through the Cornerstones site, its features and how a teacher might use it.  There will then be the opportunity to view some children’s work.
