Key Skills: Extensive knowledge of most aspects associated with the
design, construction and project management of LNG Plants
having been involved in 6 LNG Trains to date – 5 for North
West Shelf Joint Venture and 1 for Pluto.
Vast knowledge of insulation in both cryogenic and hot service.
A member of the CINI Technical Committee and participated
in development of their Standards for cryogenic insulation. Led
the technical team resolving moisture penetration in the Pluto
LNG Project and developed novel technical solutions.
Have been the Woodside Technical Authority on Civil

Marine works have involved original LNG and Condensate
Jetty, LPG and Condensate Jetty, 2nd LNG Berth and Pluto LNG
and Condensate Jetty. The last 2 jetties involved the
development of the novel design of installing crygenic piping
through the inside of the trusses. Dredging works have totalled
in excess of 25 million cu m including ~ 100,000 cu m of drill
and blast.
Management of dredging works to achieve excellent
environmental outcomes with a good understanding of
environmental approvals, perceptions and sensitivities.

Management of safety to achieve a nil recordable outcome in
the historically poor performing dredging industry.
Extensive experience in the design and transportation of
modules as well as the infrastructure required for this
methodology.
Experience in both greenfield and brownfield projects and the
management of risks associated with construction activities in
an operating gas plant. Understanding of the infrastructure
required (roads, water and power supply, communications,
logistics support, laydown areas, temporary buildings and
construction villages) to support major capital projects.

Developing strategies to support implementation of major
maintenance campaigns.
Developed a Marine Works Campaign to bring a number of
previously independent work scopes into a single package for
execution by a jack up barge (JUB) in lieu of a heavy lift ship
thereby reducing weather delays and improving safety
outcomes. Included the replacement of loading arm top
sections instead of attempting insitu maintenance. The replaced
arms will become rotational spares.

Review of contractor FEED submissions with respect to
Integrated Marine Facility, LNG Jetties, Dredging and civil
design aspects of the LNG Plant.
Input into the environmental approval aspects associated with
the Project with primary focus on dredging and dredge

Expert Panel to manage compliance with environmental

Project did not proceed and alternative offshore options are
being investigated.
Oct 2010 – Jun 2012 Infrastructure Manager – Pluto LNG
Structural assessment of defective vendor packaged flare
tower, options for reinforcement and strategy to design,
procure and erect a replacement tower as a fast track project.
Enhancement of FAR 2 which had not been designed to
accommodate the final QRA determined design blast
overpressure (520 kPa) as well as enhancement to provide for
future expansions. As the building was under commissioning
with live equipment, rectification was undertaken by external
reinforcing of walls and roof. This avoided any need to enter
the building to install temporary props with impact and dust
risk to live equipment.
Rectification of extensive defective cryogenic insulation
installed in overseas module yard. Due to being a critical path
activity extensive pre-fabrication of PIR insulation components
including pre-installed vapour barriers (elbows, Tees,
trunnions and straight run) was undertaken offsite to facilitate
ease of replacement. Materials were flown to Perth by Antonov
124 aircraft. This is a world first to be pre-fabricating and air
freighting PIR insulation on such a large scale.
Jun 2010 – Sep 2010 Long Service Leave
Sep 2007 – May 2010 Infrastructure Manager – Pluto LNG
Responsible for all civil infrastructure designed in Perth and
not included in the main design package executed in UK.
Management of the substructure design of Pluto LNG and
Condensate Jetty including design interfaces with the topsides
design and constructability issues. Design management of the
site civil works and administration buildings. Shipping
Channel, Turning Circle and Berth Pocket design, specification
and award of dredging. Technical advice on all civil aspects of
the Project.
Execution of the dredging contract involving ~ 10 million cu m
of dredge spoil to strict environmental conditions imposed by
the Regulators. By close day to day monitoring of dredging and
weather conditions all conditions were satisfied with no
adverse impacts from dredging detected by water, coral
monitoring programs, marine megafauna observations or
benthic habitat surveys. Dredging involved 2 campaigns with
Trailer Hopper Suction Dredges “Cornelis Zanen” and “Queen

of the Netherlands” and Cutter Suction Dredges “Phoenix” and
“Leonardo da Vinci”. Work methodologies were developed to
minimise the environmental impact from turbidity including
optimisation of coral spawning windows for shutdown of
plant.
Participated as the Proponent Representative on the Regulator
appointed Dredge Environmental Management Group. This
group comprised independent industry leading specialists in
the field of marine science, coral reefs and dredging and
reported to the Minister for Environment on Woodside’s
compliance with the conditions imposed upon the dredging
works.
Apr 2006 – Aug 2007 Area Manager Offplot & Civil Technical Authority – LNG Train 5
(Karratha)
Site Manager of construction of Gas Turbine Generators,
Instrument Air, Buildings, Underground Services, LNG Jetty
and Dredging, Module corridors and Module Import.
Direct managed LNG Jetty Substructure and Dredging. Jetty
was built with all approach causeway modules fitted out with
cryogenic pipes. Jetty piling involved full diameter rock sockets
drilled into igneous rock. Dredging included a total of ~3
million cu m of which ~100,000 cu m was igneous rock which
required drilling and blasting. All dredging complied with the
conditions imposed by the Regulator and no marine megafauna
were impacted by the blasting.
Oct 2004 – Mar 2006 Area Manager Offplot & Civil Technical Authority– LNG Train 5
(Perth)
Developed Jetty design concept of incorporating cryogenic
piping inside trusses to save weight and cost of traditional
roadway with adjacent pipetrack. Developed transportation
philosophy and provided technical input into modularisation
of Train 5 compared to stick build philosophy of Train 4.
Managed infrastructure required to support module offloading
and transportation to site. Provided Civil technical support and
governance to Project and Operating Centres.
Mar 1999 – Sep 2004 Principal Civil Engineer & Civil Technical Authority – LNG Train 4
Managed all civil design aspects of LNG Train 4 including new
trunkline, slugcatcher, power generation and process services.
This included site preparation, underground services, oily
water systems, drainage, foundations, paving, roads,
structures, fireproofing, insulation, protective coatings.
Provided technical support to the field during construction.

Mar 1998 – Feb 1999 Principal Civil Engineer & Civil Technical Authority – Plant
Expansions
Undertook studies and prepared documentation for Plant
Expansion Projects. Designed, tendered, awarded and
supervised an additional tank pad base for an LPG Tank. This
required blasting within an operating LNG Plant and in close
proximity to an existing LNG Tank. Due to the inner tank being
supported on cellular glass design, loading and management of
the blasts was critical to control peak particle velocities. No
damage was sustained.

Joined Woodside permanent staff. Worked on studies and plot
plans for future Plant expansions.

Preparation of the Orinoco Iron Project in Venezuela for a due
diligence review to be undertaken by the syndicate of financial
institutions financing this HBI Project. Writing the Project

Pilbara region mainly focussing on Port related issues.
Jun 1994 - Oct 1995 Substructure Engineer - LPG Jetty - Seconded to Woodside Karratha
Supervision of contractor undertaking piling, crossheads,
roadway, loading platform, mooring and breasting dolphins,
catwalks, quick release hooks for a combined butane, propane
and condensate loadout berth. Construction utilised a Self
Elevating Platform “Heron” equipped with a 300 tonne ringer
crane. Approach bridge was tubular steel truss sections which
was incrementally launched.

matters across the site. Civil discipline includes site

CSD ‘Leonardo da Vinci’, THD ‘Rupel’ as well as drill and
blast, piperacks, buildings, painting, cryogenic insulation,
