                                    Leighton Kumagai Joint Venture, New Metro Rail – City Project, Perth WA

Project Details : Rail Tunnel under Perth CBD and foreshore. Comprising over 1km of Strutted Excavation, 1.4km
                  Twin Bore TBM Tunnels, 2 underground rail stations. Value > $350M.

            Directly managed a team of 19 engineers, geologists,
             technicians and surveyors, and over 5000 instruments.
             Managed drilling, installation and logging of over 500
             geotechnical and instrumentation boreholes, dewatering,
             and recharge bores
            Managed numerous architectural, ground improvement,
             dewatering, drilling, geotechnical, and hydro-geological
             sub-contractors throughout the project.
            Managed building condition inspections for over 150
             buildings, incident investigations, and preventative
             works before, during, and after tunnelling. Responsible
             for Emergency Response Plans and Procedures for
             tunnelling.
            Responsible for all budgeting, cost control and reporting
             aspects for the Instrumentation and Monitoring
             Department
            Responsible for interpretation and reporting of all
             groundwater, surface, subsurface, and building
             movements to the relevant project stakeholders.
            Responsible for continual updating of geotechnical and
             groundwater model throughout the project and provision

            Directly managed a team of 2 geotechnical
             engineers, 2 technicians, and 2 student engineers.
            Following a very large slope failure; developed
             and managed an investigation and slope re-design
             program that fitted budgetary and time
             constraints.
            Successfully initiated and developed a slope
             dewatering program in soft saprolitic sediments
             to prevent a repeat of previous large scale pit wall
             failures and mud-flows.
            Initiated and managed a crest management
             improvement study.
            Procured and Managed; drilling contractors,
             subcontract geologists and structural geologists, blasting, geotechnical, hyrdro-geological and review
             consultants for the above three projects
            Managed day to day geotechnical issues and monitoring within a very large open pit and underground
             mining operation mining approximately 60 Million m3 per annum, with ongoing failures and large scale

   Management of annual production strip. The Production Strips involve operations design in consultation with
    Gypsum Industries, contract award and construction supervision of the overburden stripping, backfilling of mined-
    out areas, surface reinstatement, and extensions to contaminated surface water control systems. The average
    Production Strip involves the excavation of 580,000m3 of overburden material, and deposition in alternative areas
    where mining has been completed, along with construction of suitable drainage, haul roads, access ramps and
    other ancillaries as required.

April 2004 – June 2007: Instrumentation and Monitoring Manager, and Senior Project Engineer - Geotechnical Leighton Kumagai Joint Venture, New Metro Rail – City Project, Perth WA Project Details : Rail Tunnel under Perth CBD and foreshore. Comprising over 1km of Strutted Excavation, 1.4km Twin Bore TBM Tunnels, 2 underground rail stations. Value > $350M.  Directly managed a team of 19 engineers, geologists, technicians and surveyors, and over 5000 instruments. Managed drilling, installation and logging of over 500 geotechnical and instrumentation boreholes, dewatering, and recharge bores  Managed numerous architectural, ground improvement, dewatering, drilling, geotechnical, and hydro-geological sub-contractors throughout the project.  Managed building condition inspections for over 150 buildings, incident investigations, and preventative works before, during, and after tunnelling.
