Transition Year Guidelines

School Improvement Strategies
The School Advisory Council (SAC) aims to improve communication about school issues and design an effective School Improvement Plan (SIP). The SIP focuses on improving achievement in reading, math, and other subjects for all student subgroups. While some goals were met in 2013, reading and math scores need more work. To address this, the school implemented daily 30-minute reading periods, teacher training in reading strategies, and voluntary math tutoring before school. The SAC also distributes climate surveys and shares information at open meetings to better engage with students, parents, and the community.

Math Mindset Comes First: Closing the Achievement Gap
Students who are behind in math may suffer from “failure fatigue.” Symptoms may include feeling of nausea when math class approaches, “answer getting,” and feelings of frustration with no cure. To relieve the symptoms, we must first treat the cause – a fixed mindset where students believe that they are bad at math and will never get it. Use Discourse to Access Language and Mathematics for English Learners
Extensive use of discourse in the classroom is a key practice to support the learning of English while learning mathematics. English learners are in varying stages of English language development, and discourse will increase their productive (oral and written) and receptive (listening and reading) language functions in addition to their comprehension of mathematics concepts. The Standards for Mathematical Practice expect students to reason, construct viable arguments, and critique the reasoning of others among other practices. Thus, classroom teachers need to provide support for students’ English language development to engage in these practices.

NCA Residency Session 7 March 8 2017
The VA developed an NP residency competency tool to standardize assessment across 5 sites and document competence in 7 domains. The tool was validated through an iterative process involving VA NP experts, trainees, and medical education consultants. It assesses residents in 69 items across domains like clinical competency, leadership, and interprofessional collaboration using a 0-5 scale. Analysis found residents and mentors' ratings increased significantly over 12 months for all domains, with mentors consistently rating residents higher. The validated tool demonstrates residents' progression and program effectiveness for accreditation.

Linear Measurements: Instruments used. Linear Measurement by Tape, Ranging out Survey Lines and overcoming Obstructions; Measurements on sloping ground; Tape corrections, conventional symbols. Angular Measurements: Instruments used; Introduction to Compass Surveying, Bearings and Longitude & Latitude of a Line, Introduction to total station.
Levelling: Instrument used Object of levelling, Methods of levelling in brief, and Contour maps.

Buildings: Selection of site for Buildings, Layout of Building Plan, Types of buildings, Plinth area, carpet area, floor space index, Introduction to building byelaws, concept of sun light & ventilation. Components of Buildings & their functions, Basic concept of R.C.C., Introduction to types of foundation
