My classes are going well so far. I am doing well in English and Cultural Geography. I am doing
well in these classes because in English I get everything done on time, like the homework and class
assignments. I am also doing well because my vocab quizzes and retakes are helping my grade as
well and I am starting to participate and ask more questions. I am proud of my English grade. I will
continue to do well in English class by completing all of my work, participating and do my very best
to keep succeeding in that class. I am also doing well in Cultural Geography. I am doing well in

Mathematical Extrapolation Technique For Predicting And...
Appendix B – Mathematical Extrapolation Technique for Predicting and Assessing Production
Performance
In this section developments in graphical methods of assessing water drive performance are
presented. An extensive number of graphical and mathematical extrapolation techniques is available
in the literature. A number mathematical extrapolation methods were also assessed (not presented
here). Mathematical extrapolation technique presented by Dake (1994) was found to be quite
effective in predicting future production performance and in assessing the effects of any remedial
actions which has taken place. The method was tested on two fields, namely Miller and Maureen.
Description of method proposed by Dake is presented below.

Conversion from surface volumes to reservoir pore volumes is performed using the following
relationships:
N_pd=(N_p B_o)/(NB_oi )(1–S_wc)
W_id=W_i/(NB_oi )(1–S_wc)
Since 1PV=(NB_oi)/(1–S_wc )
Finally, the dependence of fractional flow at the producing end of the system on fractional flow at
reservoir conditions is expressed using the classical Buckley–Leverett fraction flow function:
f_we=1/(1+B_o/B_w (1/f_ws –1))
It must be noted that in most water drive reservoirs before the water breakthrough, there is an initial
period of depletion. The fractional flow calculations, only take into account the oil recovered by
water injection. Therefore calculations can be performed only after the water breaks through in the
producing wells.
Prediction of final oil recovery
If injection rates during the latter part of the flood are relatively stable, then 1/Wid function can be
approximated by a straight line, which can be fitted by equation of the form:
(δf_we)/(δS_we )=aS_we+b
Where a and b are constants. Integrating the equation results in quadratic function: f_we=a^2/2
S_we^2+bS_we+c
Where c is constant. Predicted values of fwe and Swe obtained by extrapolation of the quadratic
equation above are then can be used in Welge equation for predicting Npd as a function of fwe,
which are then should be converted to surface conditions.

Budget Analysis : Cost By Classroom
After completing the budget analysis review of cost by classroom by following NAECY's staff ratio
guidelines it would cost approximately $57,000.00 per year per classroom to staff a toddler room
with 4 kids per full–time teacher. Furthermore the cost to staff is a little on the steep side however
when running an organization that adheres to NAECY's guidelines and putting safety first it pays off
in the long run. My toddlers would be able to have at least 867 inside square feet divided amongst
20 toddlers, and out licensed capacity is 18.57. Our facility outside square feet is 1600 square feet
our licensed capacity is 21. The group size according to NAECY guidelines is 8–18, and our group
size is 20. & our teacher/child ratio is 1.3/6.6.
It would cost approximately $45,760.00 per year per classroom to staff a young preschool room with
12 kids per teacher. Our young preschoolers would be able to have at least 1,575 inside square feet
divided amongst 36 young preschoolers, and our licensed capacity is 45.0. Our facility outside
square feet is 2,812.5 square feet our licensed capacity is 37.50. The group size according to
NAECY guidelines is 27–31.5, and our group size is 36. & our teacher/child ratio is 12.25/18.
Our Pre–K cost approximately 54,080.oo per year to staff a Pre–K room with 10 kids per teacher.

Regression Analysis is relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent
variables. More specifically, regression analysis helps one understand how the typical value of the
dependent variable changes when any one of the independent variables is varied, while the other
independent variables are held fixed. For exploring such issues, an investigator assembles data on
the underlying variables of interest and employs regression to

African American Dance In The Early 1800s
Throughout the world, there have been several different dances created and people do not fully
know the origins of the dances. For example, the twist was created by Chubby Checker in the 60s.
There have been several different ways to show the rhythmic ability as a whole and the most
different thing that people were doing was several different ways of dancing. In the late 1700s and
the early 1800s, African Americans were starting to do different dances as a whole. However, they
were not fully called as a dance or as they were referred to as contra dances, reels, and jigs when the
cadence was called out. The difference was when there was a change in general if there was no
cadence, then the African Americans would be dancing. African Americans

Termites Behavior Lab Report
After completing the lab The Effect Colors of Pen have on Termites Behavior it could be identified
that termites like black pens the most and prefer to follow an ink line. In both trials the termites
seemed to avoid the squares for the most part, but when they got near one they would walk around
the outside of the square. Out of all the colors it was evident black was the preffered color because
they spend 11 seconds inside that square 2 seconds in the blue, and 3 seconds in the red. While this
seems like a short period of time considering each trial was 2 minutes long the termites spend a
good majority of that time near the black square which we did not put into our data table. If three
squares are drawn in different colors, then the termites will mostly stay in the red square, because it
likely has the strongest scent. This was the hypothesis made in the beginning of the experiment and
it was rejected based off the lab results. The termites defintely prefered the white portion of the
paper and also liked the black pen the most as they spent most of their time in the white or walking
around the black square. According to Joe Culin from Clemson University this is because the pen's

This ended up affecting the results because termites spent a majority of the time in the white part of
the paper. If the amount of white was closer to the size of the colored squares then the termites likely
would of spent more time in the colored squares. Halfway through the experiment a termite died
which was another large source of error. This affected the experiment because the new termite
behaved differently then the one who died. A student in another biology class peformed a similar
experiment where they drew a red and black circle and found the termite preffered the black circle.
This helps validate the experiment we did, as the termites were also attracted to the black

Sociocultural Theory And Social Interaction
Sociocultural theory refers to the idea that parents, peers, teachers, and culture help to shape a
child's learning. The engagement between objects and environment, in collaboration with social
interaction play an extensive role in a child's learning and development (Wang, Bruce, & Hughes,
2011). Psychologist, Lev Vygotsky, introduced socio–cultural theory. The basis of socio cultural
theory is made up of social interaction and cultural tools. Social interaction refers to the parents,
peers, and teachers daily interaction with the child and the learning that is stimulated. Cultural tools
refer to the values, beliefs, technical tools, and psychological tools that available and accessible to
the child. This theory also describes the learning process in two parts, interpersonal and evolves to
intrapersonal. Interpersonal is when a child is learning through social interaction and intrapersonal is
when a child learns it on an individual level (Siegler and Alibali, 2005). The transition from
interpersonal to intrapersonal depends upon the proximal zone of development and scaffolding. The
zone of proximal development is the abilities that children can perform by themself compared to the
abilities that a child cannot perform on their own, but is able to learn with the guidance of others
(Siegler and Alibali, 2005). Instructed learning is one form that aims to teach a child a task. This
could be in regards to a teacher teaching a lesson at school, or parents who are helping their

Visual Search Case Studies
1.) Visual Search – In this activity I participated in a classic psychological experiment that uses
visual search tasks to explore fundamental process of visual perception and attention. In general I
learned that selective attention filters enable us to make more automatic decisions about the stimuli
around us, including which items to pay attention to during a visual search. Also, since your brain is
always active and sees visual sights and sensory information, your mind copes by automatically
screening or filtering incoming sensory information to let in only what is most important.
Specifically, I learned that the first set of trials I did were the feature search part of the experience
and the second set of trials were the conjunction search part of the experience. What I learned about
my self after doing this activity is that I had a quick reaction time on the first set of trials as I was
asked to find a blue circle amid orange squares and circles. But, on the second set of trials my
reaction time was not as quick as it first was. On the second set of trials, I was asked to find the blue
circle amid blue squares and orange circles. I believe my reaction time was quicker on the first set of
trials due to the fact that I was just looking for the color blue among orange squares and circles, but
on the second set of trials I was looking for a blue circle among blue squares and orange squares.
Therefore, the blue squares were distractors from the blue circle and I was forced

Additional Mathematics Chapter 1 Essay
Chapter One From chapter 1, I feel a very important contribution to the development of mathematics
is the Egyptian "doubling" method. The Egyptians came up with this dyadic method when they
realized that any integer can be written as a sum of "doubling numbers" or powers of two without
repeating any of them. By doubling a number enough to add up to the value of another, the
Egyptians came up with an approach to multiplication that we should purpose today. It is also an
early introduction to the distribution property that will be used in later mathematics such as Algebra.
I find this method of "doubling numbers" as a path to multiplying large numbers that avoids the
mistakes that can be made with multiplication in our current method such as "dropping the zeros for
the next place value"; and I will surely teach this method to my middle school students as they
progress to mastering mutiplication.
Chapter Two The "Babylonian" formula from chapter 2 is what I feel is a very important
contribution to the development of mathematics. They Babylonians came up with the formula and
they did not even know it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interesting that we actually get introduced to this theorem in our text earlier in time in the
Babylonian Era of chapter two. Plimpton 322 actually contained pairs of numbers in which the
square root of the difference of the pairs' squares was a whole number; what we know as today as
Pythagorean Triples. But it was Pythagoras who took this property beyond just a concept and
applied it to right triangles; where the sum of the two squares of the two shorter sides of a right
triangle equals the square of the hypotenuse. There is no way that I will teach mathematics and not
come across teaching any of my students the Pythagorean Theorem; whether it be Pythagorean
Triples, right triangles, or Trigonometry, the Pythagorean Theorem will be

The Groton Maze : An Effective Method For Measuring...
Executive Summary The Groton maze is a computer cognitive test which requires a participant to
find a twenty eight step pathway that is hidden on a 10 x 10 matrix of squares (Morgan et al. 2011).
The maze measures the visuospatial executive function of an individual. This is done by assessing
the total errors made throughout the trials which will highlight the level of the visuospatial executive
function of the participant (Morgan et al. 2011). There are three essential rules to the maze that
guide the participant's attempt. Only one tile can be moved at a time; diagonal moves cannot be
made; and if an incorrect choice is made, the participant must go back to the last location (Morgan et
al. 2011). The device is seen as an effective method for measuring cognitive functioning because it
is brief, reliable, valid and resistant to practice effects following multiple completions (Morgan, et
al. 2011). The Go–No Go task is a simplistic task in which an individual has to choose the stimulus
they have been assigned to pick, which are the go trials. The participant must ignore the other
stimulus which they have been told not to pick, which is the no trial. Each time a Go or No trial is
presented to the participant, a noise will be made to suggest that a selection can be made. The
participants have to respond to a choice but restrain themselves from responding to the alternative
which is incorrect (Gomez, Ratcliff & Perea, 2007). The design of this test assesses an individual's

Using Math to Find a Way to Beat the Game: A Knight´s Tour
I chose this specific topic because I was interested to know if there was an actual mathematical way
of beating the game called "A Knight's Tour". Whenl was first introduced to this game in my
research for an internal assessment topic, I was rather intrigued by its goal that was required for each
player to attempt to achieve. I thought that the game wouldn't be too terribly hard because I knew
fluently how the knight moved and thought that I would be able to move it in certain patterns across
the board that would allow me to complete the knight's tour. Although the goal of the game seemed
easily obtainable at first glance, as I continued to play the game and take myself on a l<night's tour, I
came to conclusion that it would be nearly impossible to beat without having an algorithm to base
each move off of. With each attempt at the game, I try different movements that might help to beat
"a Knight's Tour" but always end up landing on the same square more than once because I run out of
moves, or failing to beat the game in the required 63 moves or less. After coming as close as 69
moves at the end of the tour, l decided to research the game more thoroughly and attempt to find a
solution to the game without cheating, but using math based algorithms to help guide each rnovet

Project Estimating
Cost management planning happens early on in the project planning phase and should be refined
throughout the project's life cycle as additional details become available. The project's cost
management plan sets the framework for all of the project's cost management processes. The
accuracy of estimating a project's cost is essential to the successful or failure of the project. This
makes choosing the right estimating techniques crucial for a project. Expert judgment provides an
insight to past experiences, environments, and historical information from past similar projects. This
information is compared and analyzed against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bottom–up estimating can be used when individual work packages or activity segments of the
project need to be estimated. Bottom–up estimating takes the detailed costs and then rolls those cost
details up to a higher level activity segment or work package (Project Management Institute, 2008).
An example of this would be estimating all the resources and facility costs and rolling the
information up into the overall project estimate.
Three–point estimating takes a single–point activity and use probability distribution to approximate
what can happen in the future. This technique takes uncertainties and risks into consideration and is
considered a more accurate technique as the three points clarify and determine the risk level or range
of uncertainty for the cost estimate (Project Management Institute, 2008).
Determining the most appropriate estimating technique for the project is important. Choosing the
right technique depends on the amount of information you have from past similar projects, and the
information you have regarding the current project, such as scope baseline, project schedule, human
resource plan, risk register, enterprise environmental factors, and organizational process assets
(Project Management Institute, 2008). It is also important to know how much time and money the

Explaining The Mendelian Theory On Genetics
This lab report serves the purpose of explaining the Mendelian theory on genetics. An experiment
done on the common fruit fly shows how the dominant and recessive traits appear in the generation
tested. The data collected and found by using a chi–square and Punnett square that allowed a
hypothesis to be made and the decision to be accepted or rejected. Drosophila Melanogaster, the
common fruit fly is an essential organism to use for genetic research because of its simple living
requirements and choice of diet. The fly can also be easily sedated and obtains many hereditary
features that can be seen with the naked eye. The fly has a few chromosomes. Another plus in using
the Drosophila is its short life cycle. The average life cycle is about 12 days. The eggs are small and
after a day are hatched into the larva. While the Drosophila is in the larval stage, it is constantly
eating. As it grows, the larva will shed its skin. Then in the last few stages, the chromosomes will be
visible. While in the pupal stage, the larva will crawl to the side of the container to begin forming
the pupal case, which is darker and harder. After a few weeks, the adult fly crawls out of the casing
and begins mating to restart the cycle (Vijayalakshmi 5). During this fly lab, the investigation was
based on genetics and gave ratios when the crosses were performed. The first objective was to find
the dominant allele. The dominant allele is the more powerful gene in the crossing. There is also a

Implementing High Cognitive Demand Tasks
To implement high cognitive demand tasks, we need to plan for the tasks accordingly to promote
reasoning and problem solving skills, help our students to explain and justify the answers, give the
students chance to discuss and validate the results, and ask students to explain their thinking about
the math concepts. I divided each class into teams of four to work collaboratively on the tasks.
Another strategy I did during these tasks was revise and find different ways to make the tasks easier
to start and complete within the groups. I learned how to explain and the task thoroughly, I walked
around the room more, checking up on the groups. If students had any questions, comments, or
thoughts about the task they could asked me while I was walking around the room. I asked my
students many different questions like inviting, probing, pressing, waiting, orienting, re–voicing,
connecting, and explaining questions to help them start or continue solving the task. These questions
would extend their knowledge of the concepts and make them think deeply about solving and
justifying their answers. I needed to prepare well planned intentional questions, think about the
barriers and the challenges such as previous knowledge. To help the all the students in engaging
with the task, we need to allow them enough time to work on the task. During these tasks students
work together as a team to meet the goal of how to solve the quadratic equations? and how can they

Special education classroom, I was not sure what kind of teachers or children I would encounter. On
June 8, 2015 through June 10, 2015 I conducted my Special education observation at one of my
neighborhood schools. Once I walked into Langston Hughes Elementary school, I felt welcomed
and excited at the same time. I had an option to pick between four different classrooms, but when I

students with different disabilities such as: autism, speech and language disability, intellectual
disabilities, visual impairment, and physical disability. There are four big rectangular tables instead
of desks and chair, which were positioned into a square where there was enough room to walk

Analysis Of Justin Unger 's School Readiness Test Essay
Summary:
Justin Unger is a sweet five–year–old male who is currently enrolled in kindergarten at Southwoods
Elementary School. He was referred to occupational therapy by his teacher due to difficulty with
recognizing and writing letters and numbers and completing fine motor activities. He was pulled
from his classroom and evaluated using the Printing Performance School Readiness Test (PPSRT)
and the Visual–Motor Integration assessment (VMI). Clinical observation was used to assess Justin's
actions and behaviors within the classroom and on the playground.
Per teacher report, Justin has difficulty attending to and completing activities within the classroom.
Justin's scores on the PPSRT show that he is unable to form his letters correctly, has difficulty
recognizing letters placed before him, and is unable to write a letter without visual cues (Simner,
1982). These deficits lead to a severe developmental delay in writing tasks and letter recognition.
When Justin was observed during tabletop activities, he did not recognize his last name and was
only able to write eight letters of the alphabet independently. In addition, Justin was unable to draw
a square or a triangle without having a visual example to copy. Lastly, the VMI shows that Justin has
a severe delay in visual–perceptual skills and motor coordination (Beery, Buktencia & Beery, 2010).
These delays contribute to his inability to write and his decreased fine motor skills. However, Justin
demonstrated many strengths

Les Demoiselles D Avignon
Pablo Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is an 8ft x 7ft oil painting on canvas and is displayed in
the Museum of Modern Art, New York. First look, you see incomplete distorted figures of naked
women. It looks almost as though its done in water colors. The women in the painting are actually
prostitutes from a brothel in the red light district in Barcelona Spain; Picasso's home town.
Picasso created abstract piece to show a visual record of the red light district in 1907. He attempted
to show the women as prostitutes. Picasso had problems completing their faces so he painted
African masks over 3 of their faces, which to him made them look magical. Picasso purposely
painted the women unattractive. What makes is abstract is the way he drew the ... Show more

The figures are distinct and clearly visible against the background. You can tell that one of the
women is behind a curtain while the other four are outside of it. One is even leaning on a wall. Some
of the painting has crisp outlines. The shapes on all the women's bodies are pointy and lemon
shaped. You see this mainly in their arms and legs. The two middle women are a little softer and
smoothly shaped as real women would be. Their robes and curtains have a series of misshaped
squares and triangles. The placement of the women in the painting make it hard to really understand
their positions. It isn't certain if the second woman from the left is sitting or standing. The spaces
between each woman are distorted as well. the values in the painting are well defined. For example,
you can see the contour of the middle woman's mid drift and breast, because the paint changes
between dark and light. You can also distinguish this with the robe and curtains. The edges of the
open curtains are darker than the rest, which indicates there are shadows there. The colors of the
women do appear flesh tone. You can distinguish the robes from their skin. A portion of the painting
is a different color than the curtains, so one can assume it's a wall. The difference in colors give
good definition between the women and their environment. The clothing, masks, curtains, and flesh
of the women are all colored

camera allowed the teacher to display opaque worksheets, pictures, and stories to the whole class so
that they were able to follow along. One day, my CT was talking about the life cycle of a sharks and
he wanted to show the class an article from a National Geographic weekly that talked about sharks
and human interactions. The document camera allowed the teacher to display the article and its
pictures to the whole class at once instead of trying to talk about it while the students passed around
the magazine article. By using technology in Science, the teacher was able to keep his students
involved in the content instead of having students become disengaged due to worrying about where
the magazine is and where it's going.
The teacher used videos to get the students to see how an animal progresses through the different

The Amazing Opportunity At Mcneal O ' Brien Real Estate...

Mrs. Anttila
1 August 2016
Part 3 Paper: Research
While I was given the amazing opportunity to do my practicum at McNeal–O'Brien Real Estate
Team agency, I was also assigned an assignment to complete in six weeks In that time I was
challenged to come up with a question that would be effective for people aspiring to make real estate
a career. Coming up with a research question was a pretty difficult task. The reason that I found it
difficult was because I had a very small view of what it takes to be successful in real estate. My
knowledge was limited to my personal experiences with family and watching Realtors sell homes on
t.v. During my practicum I found that there was so much more to learn. Since I knew very ... Show

A Broker 's Price Opinion is exactly how it sounds. It is the process that a licensed Broker follows in
order to assist a bank or a home buyer with estimating the price of a property. In a BPO, "A bpo is a
broker price opinion and it is based on what an agent feels a property is worth to a buyer in the
current market." (Trulia.com, Gary Geer) In the first week of practicum, the BPO was one of the
main tasks that I was assigned to complete. When it was first handed to me I had so many questions
about it. I would usually ask the agents for assistance when I came to parts of the process that I did
not understand. However if they appeared to be very busy I did not want to interrupt them and tried
to figure out answers on my own. Most of the time was spent completing BPO's. When I was
finished, my adult partner would look over it to make sure that it was completed correctly. That is
why this research question interests me. The idea came from being new to the real estate sales
process and the most challenging task that I had to perform day–to–day.
The question for my research is, " If you are a beginner, how do you properly fill out a Broker's
Price Opinion?" I came up with this because, as someone new to doing broker's price opinions, I
wanted to do it the right way but I also had many questions. Some examples of the questions that I
had were:
Where do I find the information to put in the form?
What tools can I use for researching the

An Article On Islamic Mathematics
Abstract: – This is an article on Islamic Mathematics. Islamic mathematics is dated back to the 8th
and 13th centuries CE. The mathematics in the Middle East is an expansion of what great Greek
philosophers had already found and studied. Much of what the Middle Eastern mathematicians
discovered helped influence European mathematics. In fact, a lot of what high school math teachers
teach our current generations is Algebra, which was discovered by an Islamic Mathematician.
Key–Words: – Al–Khwarizmi, Algebra, Completing the square, zero
1 Introduction
Since ancient times, mathematics has always been a necessity for the sake of civilization. Many
different cultures developed their own numerical system to adapt to changing times. Even ... Show

1) [2]. Al–Khwarizmi was born in Persia near Baghdad around 780. He worked at the House of
Wisdom under the leadership of Caliph al–Ma'mun in Baghdad. The House of Wisdom was a library
for translation and research. Most of the library was full of treatises dealing with philosophy,
mathematics, and science. Here Al–Khwarizmi was commissioned to translate Greek, Hindu,
Syriac–Persian, and Hebrew text into Arabic. He popularized a number of mathematical concepts,
including the use of Hindu–Arabic numbers and the number zero, algebra, and the use of geometry
to demonstrate and prove algebraic results.
3 Arithmetic
In the 12th century, Al–Khwarizmi introduced Hindu–Arabic numerals and their arithmetic to the
west. His work is preserved in Latin, Algoritmi de numero Indorum, which then gained the term
algorithm [1]. This treatise is especially important to mathematics since it was the introduction of
the number zero. The number zero was used in the Middle East for about 250 years before it was
ever heard of in Europe. He also introduced the Hindu concept of decimal positioning notation to
the Arab and European worlds, which we still use today [2].
4 Algebra
Kitab al–jabr wa'l–muqabalah is another extremely important treatise written by Al–Khwarizmi,
translated in the 12th century, from which the term Algebra derives. Algebra is a compilation of
rules, together with demonstrations, for finding solutions of linear and quadratic equations based on
intuitive geometric

Personal Narrative: Creating A Blackbox Style Theatre
I am creating a set in a blackbox style theatre which requires a 16 foot square, 12 inch tall raised
acting area which also contains a wall with a door on the upstate side. The first thing I must do is
create the platform. The platform is 16 ft long and 16 feet wide and 12 inches tall. I will be using 3/4
inch plywood for the flooring of my platform and 2x4 for framing underneath and support legs.
Once I use my table saw to cut out my 16'x16' piece of plywood I will also be cutting four 16'x12"
pieces for the sides of the platform. Then using four 12 inch pieces of my 2x4 I will be attaching the
four 16'x12" pieces together using my drill and screws. Once that is complete I will be taking my
16'x16' piece of platform and attaching it to the top of my now "frame". Once again going in with a
drill in screws, mind you I also used wood glue during this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After cutting out the required measurement for the door, I also add a border around the area cut out,

hinges on the frame of the door and the doorway to attach the door to the flat. I will be attaching it
once again using a drill and screws. I also have to cut out a bit of the door in order to attach a
working handle, which will also be attached using screws. After completing that I can now attach
the three 16'x12" to the flat with the door. Using wood glue, screws and my drill I do that and leave
it to dry. Once both of my pieces are dry it is now time to attach the platform to the flat. While doing
this is it super important that I am using a speed square to insure that my flat is standing exactly
straight up off of the platform. Once I am certain that it is straight I begin to insert the screws. This
time I will be using picket screws to guarantee that my flat stays secure. After I finish screwing my
set is complete and ready to be painted however it is required to be for the

Performance Suppraisal As An Approach To Performance...
Introduction. An organizational goals can be attained only when people put their greatest efforts. So
the organization has to ascertain whether an employee has contributed his or her best performance.
Performance appraisal is an objective assessment of an individual's performance against well–
defined benchmarks. The other terms used for performance appraisal are: performance rating,
employee assessment, employee performance review, personnel appraisal, performance evaluation,
employee evaluation and merit rating. The performance being measured against such factors as job

rewards. In earlier days the development of people skill and knowledge and the determination of pay
was very difficult. This became apparent in the 1980s and more comprehensive approach was
needed to manage reward performance. This performance managing approach was developed by
United Kingdom(UK) and United States(US) much earlier than it was developed in Australia. In
recent days, after the introduction of human resource management, it has very formalised and
specialised.

Sistine Chapel Challenges
The Sistine chapel was built between the years of 1475 and 1483 in Vatican City and is named after
the pope who had the chapel built, Sixtus IV. One of the most impressive things about the Sistine
chapel and one of the most famous works of art in history is Michelangelo's painting on the ceiling
of the chapel. The project was completed using fresco. In 1508 Michelangelo was requested by Pope
Julius II to repaint the chapel. The Chapel at the time was painted with a blue sky and gold stars.
Pope Julius II original request was to have the chapel painted with the twelve Christian Apostles and
when the project was completed Michelangelo had created more than 3,000 figures. The ceiling was
created depicting nine stories from the bible's book of genesis, including the "The Creation of
Adam", the most famous panel of any. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first challenge and maybe the easiest for Michelangelo to overcome was the fact that he had no
experience painting with fresco and he considered himself a sculptor. The next challenge was the
sheer size of the painting at a whopping 14 meters by 40.5 meters. That is more than 132 square
meters larger than a basketball court. Completing this large of painting was a monumental task
enough even without all the other challenges faced by Michelangelo. Michelangelo accepted this
commission regardless and would continue to face many more challenges over the next four years.
One of the most obvious challenges that stood in the way of completing this challenging work of art
was the fact that it was the ceiling that needed to be painted. A local townsman offered to
manufacture scaffolding for Michelangelo that would hang from the ceiling, but Michelangelo
refused because he did not want to leave holes in the ceiling from where the scaffolding would have
hung. Michelangelo then created his own scaffolding that could be held in place by brackets in the

Why Do We Use Quadratic Equations?
It might seem as if these contributions have no real world applications, however, that would be very
incorrect. Completing the square is very useful for quadratic equations, which we have mentioned
before. The question lies, where do we use quadratic equations? When projectiles are put into
motion they create a parabolic path, to calculate the speed and height at which they travel
completing the square would come in handy. Another example would be traveling by boat, or foot,
or any other method. You would go one way, then probably return to your original location. This
would also be similar to a parabolic path which can be solved by completing the square. Pictured
below is what a parabolic track would look like. Figure 5. Parabolic Graph Without the foundation
that al–Khwarizmi laid out for all mathematicians to come, there would not be the mathematical
field we know today. In every aspect of calculus, geometry and other forms of mathematics, the
methods of reduction, completion and balancing come into play. The combinations that those three
methods have created can be attributed to the many discoveries we have today. Just some examples
are the creation of the World Wide Web, in other words, the internet. Without the algebraic
foundation the strings of Booleans, cannot be translated to create the internet as we know it. Without
the very intricate mathematics we know today, man would have never made it into space. This one,

How." written by Allegra Goodman, she explains how to become a good writer. Also, in the short
story she describes her writing process. Goodman's writing process is similar to a lot of people's

Axis of Symmetry Axis of symmetry is a line going through a graph that separates the parabola into
two.
The axis of symmetry ia a vertical line through the vertex of the functions graph. The quadratic
function has the axis of symmetry x=h
Example
Every parabola has an axis of symmetry, the line that runs down its center. The line divides the graph
into two perfect halves. In the picture the axis of symmetry is line x=1 Vertex
If a parabola opens upward, it has a lowest point. If a parabola opens downward, it has a highest
point. This lowest or highest point is called the Vertex of a parabola
The standard equation of a parabola is
But the equation for a parabola can also be written in "vertex form"
Example:
Find the vertex of the parabola.
y = 3x2 + 12x – 12
So, the x–coordinate of the vertex is:
a = 3 and b = 12.
Substituting in the original equation to get the y–coordinate, we get:
y = 3(–2)2 + 12(–2) – 12 = –24
So, the vertex of the parabola is at (–2, –24).

Important Discoveries And Contributions That Were Made By...
Abstract: – The many concepts we currently have in the field of mathematics are thanks to great
mathematicians from different cultures throughout time. An important era when great mathematical
discoveries were made was during Medieval Times, or the Middle Ages. In this paper we discuss
important discoveries and contributions that were made by three famous mathematicians of this time
period including French Nicole Oresme, German Jordanus Nemorarius and Italian Leonardo Pisano,
better known for his nickname of Fibonacci.
Key–Words: – Medieval, Mathematics, Fibonacci, Arithmetic, Sequence
1 Introduction
Mathematics has grown and expanded its many concepts thanks to mathematicians from different
societies throughout time. A very important era in history is considered to be the Medieval Times, or
the middle ages. According to reference [6], "People use the phrase 'Middle Ages' to describe
Europe between the fall of Rome in 476 CE and the beginning of the Renaissance in the 14th
century." The Middle Ages, or Medieval Times, are known for their famous art, architecture,
crusades among other things, but there were also mathematical contributions happening during this
time period.
Mathematical concepts that we know and use nowadays are thanks to contributions made from
different mathematicians throughout time. The Medieval Times are no exception since great men
living in this era contributed to the beautiful subject of mathematics. Some of the many intelligent

Elementary 's Writing Workshop : Four Square Model
Introduction The curriculum initiative I chose to actively engage in is our third grade's Writing
Workshop: Four Square Model. The Writing Workshop: Four Square Model initiative is currently in
the evaluation phase. The most important aspect of this initiative is provide students with the
opportunity to expand upon their writing, add details, and stay organized. So many young writers
struggle to develop well–written stories, essays, and descriptions. This method utilizes a simple
graphical organizer to take students step by step through the writing process. It can be used for any
type of writing project from a simple paragraph to a story or even a persuasive essay. During the
project I worked to analyze student data and researched the Four Square Model for school–wide
usage. Overview During the 2013–2014 school year, our third grade team and administration,
evaluated student writing data and PASS projections from MAP data. They found a need for
additional writing instruction. The teachers then researched a variety of programs as they prepared
to adjust instruction. Teachers and administration chose the Four Square Model program, set a
timeline for implementation during the second semester, and created a common writing instruction
plan. My current work is focused on evaluating the effectiveness of Writing Workshop: Four Square
Model through PASS test score data and researching the applicability of the model in other grades.
In the future, we can use the analysis

Common Theme Of Memory In Forgetfulness, And Once More To...
Memories have always been priceless and cannot be bought. These priceless items tend to stay as
one in the human mind. Memories are powerful feelings that help one through tough times. One will
never forget the memories closest to the heart. The poem "Forgetfulness" by Billy Collins describes
memories that are slowly fading away, whereas in "Once More to the Lake" E.B. White presents a
man that relives his memories through his son. Both well–written texts develop a common theme of
memory through syntax, diction and rhetorical devices.
"Forgetfulness" by Billy Collins develops a common theme with "Once More to the Lake" by E.B.
White with the use of rhetorical devices. While describing the way memories are "floating" away,
Collins says "Long ago you kissed the names of the nine muses goodbye and watched the quadratic
equation pack its bag." (Collins 9). This is an illustration of personification because quadratic
equations lack the ability to pack bags. Similarly, in "Once More to the Lake", White says "I would
remember the things you could do with the old one–cylinder engine with the heavy flywheel, how
you could have it eating out of your hand if you got really close to it spiritually." (White 17). Both
of these examples connect to create a common theme of memory. Collins uses personification to
show how the memories of quadratic equations are forgotten. On the contrary, White uses
personification to show the reader how the narrator remembers every small detail from the

Cultural Geography Classes

  • 1. Cultural Geography Classes My classes are going well so far. I am doing well in English and Cultural Geography. I am doing well in these classes because in English I get everything done on time, like the homework and class assignments. I am also doing well because my vocab quizzes and retakes are helping my grade as well and I am starting to participate and ask more questions. I am proud of my English grade. I will continue to do well in English class by completing all of my work, participating and do my very best to keep succeeding in that class. I am also doing well in Cultural Geography. • 5. Mathematical Extrapolation Technique For Predicting And... Appendix B – Mathematical Extrapolation Technique for Predicting and Assessing Production Performance In this section developments in graphical methods of assessing water drive performance are presented. An extensive number of graphical and mathematical extrapolation techniques is available in the literature. A number mathematical extrapolation methods were also assessed (not presented here). Mathematical extrapolation technique presented by Dake (1994) was found to be quite effective in predicting future production performance and in assessing the effects of any remedial actions which has taken place. The method was tested on two fields, namely Miller and Maureen. Description of method proposed by Dake is presented below. Examination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conversion from surface volumes to reservoir pore volumes is performed using the following relationships: N_pd=(N_p B_o)/(NB_oi )(1–S_wc) W_id=W_i/(NB_oi )(1–S_wc) Since 1PV=(NB_oi)/(1–S_wc ) Finally, the dependence of fractional flow at the producing end of the system on fractional flow at reservoir conditions is expressed using the classical Buckley–Leverett fraction flow function: f_we=1/(1+B_o/B_w (1/f_ws –1)) It must be noted that in most water drive reservoirs before the water breakthrough, there is an initial period of depletion. The fractional flow calculations, only take into account the oil recovered by water injection. Therefore calculations can be performed only after the water breaks through in the producing wells. Prediction of final oil recovery If injection rates during the latter part of the flood are relatively stable, then 1/Wid function can be approximated by a straight line, which can be fitted by equation of the form: (δf_we)/(δS_we )=aS_we+b Where a and b are constants. Integrating the equation results in quadratic function: f_we=a^2/2 S_we^2+bS_we+c Where c is constant. Predicted values of fwe and Swe obtained by extrapolation of the quadratic equation above are then can be used in Welge equation for predicting Npd as a function of fwe, which are then should be converted to surface conditions. Budget Analysis : Cost By Classroom After completing the budget analysis review of cost by classroom by following NAECY's staff ratio guidelines it would cost approximately $57,000.00 per year per classroom to staff a toddler room with 4 kids per full–time teacher. Furthermore the cost to staff is a little on the steep side however when running an organization that adheres to NAECY's guidelines and putting safety first it pays off in the long run. My toddlers would be able to have at least 867 inside square feet divided amongst 20 toddlers, and out licensed capacity is 18.57. Our facility outside square feet is 1600 square feet our licensed capacity is 21. The group size according to NAECY guidelines is 8–18, and our group size is 20. & our teacher/child ratio is 1.3/6.6. It would cost approximately $45,760.00 per year per classroom to staff a young preschool room with 12 kids per teacher. Our young preschoolers would be able to have at least 1,575 inside square feet divided amongst 36 young preschoolers, and our licensed capacity is 45.0. For example, the twist was created by Chubby Checker in the 60s. There have been several different ways to show the rhythmic ability as a whole and the most different thing that people were doing was several different ways of dancing. In the late 1700s and the early 1800s, African Americans were starting to do different dances as a whole. However, they were not fully called as a dance or as they were referred to as contra dances, reels, and jigs when the cadence was called out. The difference was when there was a change in general if there was no cadence, then the African Americans would be dancing. African Americans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Termites Behavior Lab Report After completing the lab The Effect Colors of Pen have on Termites Behavior it could be identified that termites like black pens the most and prefer to follow an ink line. In both trials the termites seemed to avoid the squares for the most part, but when they got near one they would walk around the outside of the square. Out of all the colors it was evident black was the preffered color because they spend 11 seconds inside that square 2 seconds in the blue, and 3 seconds in the red. While this seems like a short period of time considering each trial was 2 minutes long the termites spend a good majority of that time near the black square which we did not put into our data table. If three squares are drawn in different colors, then the termites will mostly stay in the red square, because it likely has the strongest scent. This was the hypothesis made in the beginning of the experiment and it was rejected based off the lab results. The termites defintely prefered the white portion of the paper and also liked the black pen the most as they spent most of their time in the white or walking around the black square. According to Joe Culin from Clemson University this is because the pen's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ended up affecting the results because termites spent a majority of the time in the white part of the paper. If the amount of white was closer to the size of the colored squares then the termites likely would of spent more time in the colored squares. Halfway through the experiment a termite died which was another large source of error. This affected the experiment because the new termite behaved differently then the one who died. A student in another biology class peformed a similar experiment where they drew a red and black circle and found the termite preffered the black circle. • 36. Sociocultural Theory And Social Interaction Sociocultural theory refers to the idea that parents, peers, teachers, and culture help to shape a child's learning. The engagement between objects and environment, in collaboration with social interaction play an extensive role in a child's learning and development (Wang, Bruce, & Hughes, 2011). Psychologist, Lev Vygotsky, introduced socio–cultural theory. The basis of socio cultural theory is made up of social interaction and cultural tools. Social interaction refers to the parents, peers, and teachers daily interaction with the child and the learning that is stimulated. Cultural tools refer to the values, beliefs, technical tools, and psychological tools that available and accessible to the child. This theory also describes the learning process in two parts, interpersonal and evolves to intrapersonal. Interpersonal is when a child is learning through social interaction and intrapersonal is when a child learns it on an individual level (Siegler and Alibali, 2005). The transition from interpersonal to intrapersonal depends upon the proximal zone of development and scaffolding. The zone of proximal development is the abilities that children can perform by themself compared to the abilities that a child cannot perform on their own, but is able to learn with the guidance of others (Siegler and Alibali, 2005). Instructed learning is one form that aims to teach a child a task. This could be in regards to a teacher teaching a lesson at school, or parents who are helping their ... • 40. Visual Search Case Studies 1.) Visual Search – In this activity I participated in a classic psychological experiment that uses visual search tasks to explore fundamental process of visual perception and attention. In general I learned that selective attention filters enable us to make more automatic decisions about the stimuli around us, including which items to pay attention to during a visual search. Also, since your brain is always active and sees visual sights and sensory information, your mind copes by automatically screening or filtering incoming sensory information to let in only what is most important. Specifically, I learned that the first set of trials I did were the feature search part of the experience and the second set of trials were the conjunction search part of the experience. What I learned about my self after doing this activity is that I had a quick reaction time on the first set of trials as I was asked to find a blue circle amid orange squares and circles. But, on the second set of trials my reaction time was not as quick as it first was. On the second set of trials, I was asked to find the blue circle amid blue squares and orange circles. I believe my reaction time was quicker on the first set of trials due to the fact that I was just looking for the color blue among orange squares and circles, but on the second set of trials I was looking for a blue circle among blue squares and orange squares. Therefore, the blue squares were distractors from the blue circle and I was forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Additional Mathematics Chapter 1 Essay Chapter One From chapter 1, I feel a very important contribution to the development of mathematics is the Egyptian "doubling" method. The Egyptians came up with this dyadic method when they realized that any integer can be written as a sum of "doubling numbers" or powers of two without repeating any of them. By doubling a number enough to add up to the value of another, the Egyptians came up with an approach to multiplication that we should purpose today. It is also an early introduction to the distribution property that will be used in later mathematics such as Algebra. I find this method of "doubling numbers" as a path to multiplying large numbers that avoids the mistakes that can be made with multiplication in our current method such as "dropping the zeros for the next place value"; and I will surely teach this method to my middle school students as they progress to mastering mutiplication. Interesting that we actually get introduced to this theorem in our text earlier in time in the Babylonian Era of chapter two. Plimpton 322 actually contained pairs of numbers in which the square root of the difference of the pairs' squares was a whole number; what we know as today as Pythagorean Triples. But it was Pythagoras who took this property beyond just a concept and applied it to right triangles; where the sum of the two squares of the two shorter sides of a right triangle equals the square of the hypotenuse. There is no way that I will teach mathematics and not come across teaching any of my students the Pythagorean Theorem; whether it be Pythagorean Triples, right triangles, or Trigonometry, the Pythagorean Theorem will be ... • 48. The Groton Maze : An Effective Method For Measuring... Executive Summary The Groton maze is a computer cognitive test which requires a participant to find a twenty eight step pathway that is hidden on a 10 x 10 matrix of squares (Morgan et al. 2011). The maze measures the visuospatial executive function of an individual. This is done by assessing the total errors made throughout the trials which will highlight the level of the visuospatial executive function of the participant (Morgan et al. 2011). There are three essential rules to the maze that guide the participant's attempt. Only one tile can be moved at a time; diagonal moves cannot be made; and if an incorrect choice is made, the participant must go back to the last location (Morgan et al. 2011). The device is seen as an effective method for measuring cognitive functioning because it is brief, reliable, valid and resistant to practice effects following multiple completions (Morgan, et al. 2011). The Go–No Go task is a simplistic task in which an individual has to choose the stimulus they have been assigned to pick, which are the go trials. The participant must ignore the other stimulus which they have been told not to pick, which is the no trial. Each time a Go or No trial is presented to the participant, a noise will be made to suggest that a selection can be made. The participants have to respond to a choice but restrain themselves from responding to the alternative which is incorrect (Gomez, Ratcliff & Perea, 2007). Using Math to Find a Way to Beat the Game: A Knight´s Tour I chose this specific topic because I was interested to know if there was an actual mathematical way of beating the game called "A Knight's Tour". Whenl was first introduced to this game in my research for an internal assessment topic, I was rather intrigued by its goal that was required for each player to attempt to achieve. I thought that the game wouldn't be too terribly hard because I knew fluently how the knight moved and thought that I would be able to move it in certain patterns across the board that would allow me to complete the knight's tour. Although the goal of the game seemed easily obtainable at first glance, as I continued to play the game and take myself on a l<night's tour, I came to conclusion that it would be nearly impossible to beat without having an algorithm to base each move off of. With each attempt at the game, I try different movements that might help to beat "a Knight's Tour" but always end up landing on the same square more than once because I run out of moves, or failing to beat the game in the required 63 moves or less. After coming as close as 69 moves at the end of the tour, l decided to research the game more thoroughly and attempt to find a solution to the game without cheating, but using math based algorithms to help guide each rnovet The Rules ef A Knighfis Tour The rules seem simple at first because the player is supposed to move their knight piece in any direction, starting in the top lett corner, and make the knight land in each square ... Project Estimating Paper Project Estimating Project Estimating and Control Techniques CPMGT/303 July 12, 2014 Project Estimating Cost management planning happens early on in the project planning phase and should be refined throughout the project's life cycle as additional details become available. The project's cost management plan sets the framework for all of the project's cost management processes. The accuracy of estimating a project's cost is essential to the successful or failure of the project. This makes choosing the right estimating techniques crucial for a project. Expert judgment provides an insight to past experiences, environments, and historical information from past similar projects. This information is compared and analyzed against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bottom–up estimating can be used when individual work packages or activity segments of the project need to be estimated. Bottom–up estimating takes the detailed costs and then rolls those cost details up to a higher level activity segment or work package (Project Management Institute, 2008). An example of this would be estimating all the resources and facility costs and rolling the information up into the overall project estimate. Three–point estimating takes a single–point activity and use probability distribution to approximate what can happen in the future. This technique takes uncertainties and risks into consideration and is considered a more accurate technique as the three points clarify and determine the risk level or range of uncertainty for the cost estimate (Project Management Institute, 2008). Determining the most appropriate estimating technique for the project is important. Choosing the right technique depends on the amount of information you have from past similar projects, and the information you have regarding the current project, such as scope baseline, project schedule, human resource plan, risk register, enterprise environmental factors, and organizational process assets (Project Management Institute, 2008). An experiment done on the common fruit fly shows how the dominant and recessive traits appear in the generation tested. The data collected and found by using a chi–square and Punnett square that allowed a hypothesis to be made and the decision to be accepted or rejected. Drosophila Melanogaster, the common fruit fly is an essential organism to use for genetic research because of its simple living requirements and choice of diet. The fly can also be easily sedated and obtains many hereditary features that can be seen with the naked eye. The fly has a few chromosomes. Another plus in using the Drosophila is its short life cycle. The average life cycle is about 12 days. The eggs are small and after a day are hatched into the larva. While the Drosophila is in the larval stage, it is constantly eating. As it grows, the larva will shed its skin. Then in the last few stages, the chromosomes will be visible. While in the pupal stage, the larva will crawl to the side of the container to begin forming the pupal case, which is darker and harder. After a few weeks, the adult fly crawls out of the casing and begins mating to restart the cycle (Vijayalakshmi 5). During this fly lab, the investigation was based on genetics and gave ratios when the crosses were performed. The first objective was to find the dominant allele. The dominant allele is the more powerful gene in the crossing. There is also a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Implementing High Cognitive Demand Tasks To implement high cognitive demand tasks, we need to plan for the tasks accordingly to promote reasoning and problem solving skills, help our students to explain and justify the answers, give the students chance to discuss and validate the results, and ask students to explain their thinking about the math concepts. I divided each class into teams of four to work collaboratively on the tasks. Another strategy I did during these tasks was revise and find different ways to make the tasks easier to start and complete within the groups. I learned how to explain and the task thoroughly, I walked around the room more, checking up on the groups. If students had any questions, comments, or thoughts about the task they could asked me while I was walking around the room. I asked my students many different questions like inviting, probing, pressing, waiting, orienting, re–voicing, connecting, and explaining questions to help them start or continue solving the task. These questions would extend their knowledge of the concepts and make them think deeply about solving and justifying their answers. I needed to prepare well planned intentional questions, think about the barriers and the challenges such as previous knowledge. He was referred to occupational therapy by his teacher due to difficulty with recognizing and writing letters and numbers and completing fine motor activities. He was pulled from his classroom and evaluated using the Printing Performance School Readiness Test (PPSRT) and the Visual–Motor Integration assessment (VMI). Clinical observation was used to assess Justin's actions and behaviors within the classroom and on the playground. Per teacher report, Justin has difficulty attending to and completing activities within the classroom. Justin's scores on the PPSRT show that he is unable to form his letters correctly, has difficulty recognizing letters placed before him, and is unable to write a letter without visual cues (Simner, 1982). These deficits lead to a severe developmental delay in writing tasks and letter recognition. When Justin was observed during tabletop activities, he did not recognize his last name and was only able to write eight letters of the alphabet independently. In addition, Justin was unable to draw a square or a triangle without having a visual example to copy. Lastly, the VMI shows that Justin has a severe delay in visual–perceptual skills and motor coordination (Beery, Buktencia & Beery, 2010). These delays contribute to his inability to write and his decreased fine motor skills. However, Justin demonstrated many strengths ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mathematics in the Middle East is an expansion of what great Greek philosophers had already found and studied. In fact, a lot of what high school math teachers teach our current generations is Algebra, which was discovered by an Islamic Mathematician. Al–Khwarizmi was born in Persia near Baghdad around 780. He worked at the House of Wisdom under the leadership of Caliph al–Ma'mun in Baghdad. The House of Wisdom was a library for translation and research. Most of the library was full of treatises dealing with philosophy, mathematics, and science. Here Al–Khwarizmi was commissioned to translate Greek, Hindu, Syriac–Persian, and Hebrew text into Arabic. He popularized a number of mathematical concepts, including the use of Hindu–Arabic numbers and the number zero, algebra, and the use of geometry to demonstrate and prove algebraic results. 3 Arithmetic In the 12th century, Al–Khwarizmi introduced Hindu–Arabic numerals and their arithmetic to the west. His work is preserved in Latin, Algoritmi de numero Indorum, which then gained the term algorithm [1]. This treatise is especially important to mathematics since it was the introduction of the number zero. The number zero was used in the Middle East for about 250 years before it was ever heard of in Europe. He also introduced the Hindu concept of decimal positioning notation to the Arab and European worlds, which we still use today [2]. 4 Algebra Kitab al–jabr wa'l–muqabalah is another extremely important treatise written by Al–Khwarizmi, translated in the 12th century, from which the term Algebra derives. Pope Julius II original request was to have the chapel painted with the twelve Christian Apostles and when the project was completed Michelangelo had created more than 3,000 figures. Completing this large of painting was a monumental task enough even without all the other challenges faced by Michelangelo. Michelangelo accepted this commission regardless and would continue to face many more challenges over the next four years. One of the most obvious challenges that stood in the way of completing this challenging work of art was the fact that it was the ceiling that needed to be painted. Quadratic Formulas Characteristics Axis of Symmetry Axis of symmetry is a line going through a graph that separates the parabola into two. The axis of symmetry ia a vertical line through the vertex of the functions graph. The quadratic function has the axis of symmetry x=h Example Every parabola has an axis of symmetry, the line that runs down its center. The line divides the graph into two perfect halves. In the picture the axis of symmetry is line x=1 Vertex If a parabola opens upward, it has a lowest point. If a parabola opens downward, it has a highest point. This lowest or highest point is called the Vertex of a parabola The standard equation of a parabola is But the equation for a parabola can also be written in "vertex form" Example: Find the vertex of the parabola. y = 3x2 + 12x – 12 So, the x–coordinate of the vertex is: a = 3 and b = 12. Substituting in the original equation to get the y–coordinate, we get: y = 3(–2)2 + 12(–2) – 12 = –24

Abstract: – The many concepts we currently have in the field of mathematics are thanks to great mathematicians from different cultures throughout time. An important era when great mathematical discoveries were made was during Medieval Times, or the Middle Ages. In this paper we discuss important discoveries and contributions that were made by three famous mathematicians of this time period including French Nicole Oresme, German Jordanus Nemorarius and Italian Leonardo Pisano, better known for his nickname of Fibonacci. Key–Words: – Medieval, Mathematics, Fibonacci, Arithmetic, Sequence 1 Introduction Mathematics has grown and expanded its many concepts thanks to mathematicians from different societies throughout time. A very important era in history is considered to be the Medieval Times, or the middle ages. According to reference [6], "People use the phrase 'Middle Ages' to describe Europe between the fall of Rome in 476 CE and the beginning of the Renaissance in the 14th century." The Middle Ages, or Medieval Times, are known for their famous art, architecture, crusades among other things, but there were also mathematical contributions happening during this time period. Mathematical concepts that we know and use nowadays are thanks to contributions made from different mathematicians throughout time. The Medieval Times are no exception since great men living in this era contributed to the beautiful subject of mathematics. Some of the many intelligent minds from this era ... Infuriating Cases of Animal Abuse Recently a series of cat–abused cases had furious all walks of lives in port. really the cases of animal abuse square measure rising endlessly in these years. the former chief of Health and Food Bureau Dr. York Chow Yat–ngok(2011) claimed that it had received 534 complaints related to animal abuse in 2011,which was the thrice of the 187 cases in 2008. There square measure 3 major causes result in animal abuse. Firstly, it should relate to the broken childhood of abusers. in line with an editorial, a former animal abuser, who killed 3 dogs once he was young, said the roaring of dogs continually frightened him once he was still a baby. Therefore, once he grows up, he showed emotion towards dogs. a foreign psychologist unconcealed that an oversized part of animal abusers had the expertise of littered with violence in their childhood. The emotion create them become abusive to others particularly defenseless animals in their later lives. First, there square measure too several stray animals in port. Some volunteers feed stray animals frequently. Street animals then continually gather on the road and result in hygiene issues and aroused discontent of citizens. Second, some immature teens abuse animals only for fun. It looks to be a trend recently that record the method of abusing animals then place the clip on YouTube, and gaining the sense of pride by accumulating the clicks. To make it clear, before looking the solution of relieving the animal abuse drawback, we need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Montego Bay, Jamaica As an eighth grade student at Bowling Green Christian Academy, I got the opportunity to travel to Montego Bay, Jamaica with the rest of my class to work with the local Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf. During our trip, we completed various construction tasks such as transporting loads of rock and sand in order to mix concrete, pouring sidewalks, building a wall along the perimeter of the campus, planting flower beds, and much more. After our daily construction work, we visited many common tourist destinations. We toured a local sugar plantation, went on a sunset cruise, swam in glistening waters (luminous lagoon), and hung out at the beach. After returning from our daily outing, we spent time with the students playing four square, writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. Elementary 's Writing Workshop : Four Square Model Introduction The curriculum initiative I chose to actively engage in is our third grade's Writing Workshop: Four Square Model. The Writing Workshop: Four Square Model initiative is currently in the evaluation phase. The most important aspect of this initiative is provide students with the opportunity to expand upon their writing, add details, and stay organized. So many young writers struggle to develop well–written stories, essays, and descriptions. This method utilizes a simple graphical organizer to take students step by step through the writing process. It can be used for any type of writing project from a simple paragraph to a story or even a persuasive essay. During the project I worked to analyze student data and researched the Four Square Model for school–wide usage. Overview During the 2013–2014 school year, our third grade team and administration, evaluated student writing data and PASS projections from MAP data. They found a need for additional writing instruction. The teachers then researched a variety of programs as they prepared to adjust instruction. Teachers and administration chose the Four Square Model program, set a timeline for implementation during the second semester, and created a common writing instruction plan. My current work is focused on evaluating the effectiveness of Writing Workshop: Four Square Model through PASS test score data and researching the applicability of the model in other grades. In the future, we can use the analysis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 153. Common Theme Of Memory In Forgetfulness, And Once More To... Memories have always been priceless and cannot be bought. These priceless items tend to stay as one in the human mind. Memories are powerful feelings that help one through tough times. One will never forget the memories closest to the heart. The poem "Forgetfulness" by Billy Collins describes memories that are slowly fading away, whereas in "Once More to the Lake" E.B. White presents a man that relives his memories through his son. Both well–written texts develop a common theme of memory through syntax, diction and rhetorical devices. "Forgetfulness" by Billy Collins develops a common theme with "Once More to the Lake" by E.B. White with the use of rhetorical devices. While describing the way memories are "floating" away, Collins says "Long ago you kissed the names of the nine muses goodbye and watched the quadratic equation pack its bag." (Collins 9). This is an illustration of personification because quadratic equations lack the ability to pack bags. Similarly, in "Once More to the Lake", White says "I would remember the things you could do with the old one–cylinder engine with the heavy flywheel, how you could have it eating out of your hand if you got really close to it spiritually." (White 17). Both of these examples connect to create a common theme of memory. Collins uses personification to show how the memories of quadratic equations are forgotten. On the contrary, White uses personification to show the reader how the narrator remembers every small detail from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
