A Brief History of Time Summary Essay
Theoretical Physics, a modern topic of science with an extremely deterring sound and famous for
being beyond complex, is a subject which cannot be explained with ease. Stephen Hawking, the
most famous living scientist today, wrote A Brief History of Time in 1988, updated in 1996, in
order to take upon this daunting task of explaining basic theoretical physicsto a population who had
previously barely studied any science. Within A Brief History of Time, Hawking touches upon
seven topics in depth while easily explaining them in a simple manner: our picture of the universe,
space and time, the expanding universe, the uncertainty principle, elementary particles and the
forces of nature, black holes, and the origin and fate of the universe.... Show more content on

Thus, the ether was created. Albert Einstein proposed though that the ether was not needed, for
objects do not have to be at absolute rest as long as there was no absolute time. Thus, the theory
of relativity was developed. In his discussion of light, Hawking cites that light is described by a
cone. The top of the cone represents the future path of light, the bottom half of the cone
represents the past path of the light, while the central vertex represents the actual light. In the
third chapter, Hawking takes upon the continuous and accelerated expansion of the universe. In
order to prove this, he uses the Doppler shift which is almost identical to the Doppler Effect. In
sound, the Doppler Effect creates an increasingly louder sound as the event approaches us, and
then as the event moves away the sound begins to dull. In light the same basis applies, but with a
color shift. Blue shifting and red shifting are the opposite effects of the Doppler shift . When
objects are moving away from us, their light is shifted in the red direction on the electromagnetic
spectrum. Inversely, as objects approach us; their light is shifted in the blue direction. Hawking
uses this to prove the expansion of the universe, for many stars found by Edwin Hubble, of whom
the Hubble telescope is named after, are observed to be red shifted. Thus, Hawking cites the

Examples Of Marketing Ethics In The Body Shop
Marketing Ethics The Body Shop
Introduction
This essay is about discussing the ethicality of a company s marketing activity. First of all, it needs
to be defined what ethical activity is. Ethical marketing can bring advantages and disadvantages to
the company. It can help to improve the brand image of the company and develop a trust with the
customers. On the other hand, it cannot ensure that can increase the company s sales or have a
possibility to increase the advertising cost. In the following discussion, an international cosmetic
firm, The Body Shop, is chosen to be the target.
Marketing activity of The Body Shop
The Body Shop put a great effort into ethical marketing. It is doing several campaigns which are
related to ethics including Against AnimalTesting, Support Community Fair Trade, Activate Self
Esteem, Defend Human Rights and Protect The Planet. These are also the values of the company.
And now, it is going to discuss two selected ethical marketing activities of them, which are Against
Animal Testing and Support Community Fair Trade .
Against Animal Testing
It is known that most of the cosmetic products need to be tested for safety reasons before
publishing. Some companies are testing their products on animals that cause the animals suffering
cruelties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ethical activities can bring benefits to them. These help to build a trustful relationship with the
consumers, improve the corporate image and cultivate the loyalty of the customers through the
ethical marketing. Furthermore, it can draw people s attention on the animal testing affair and
arouse their awareness when buying cosmetic products. One hand the suppliers and workers can
have a fair trading, on the other hand, they can create the new product line for the organic products
and build the positive image to the consumers. Both of them can gain benefits from the ethical
marketing

Personification In To His Coy Mistress
An affliction that has plagued human existence is the finite nature of our lives and managing its
limitations as they intertwine with various aspects of our reality. One approach to life is
illustrated by the popular phrase, Carpe Diem, or Seize the Day. Seeking out a similar sentiment,
Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress stresses the urgency of timeas a means to seduce an
unnamed mistress. He convinces her that their days are numbered and rather than being so
guarded, they should live those days to the fullest together before they fade away. The author
communicates his message through the use of literary devicessuch as hyperbole, personification,
and paradox.
As a poem whose speaker is one with an overarching goal of seduction and ... Show more content

The personification that stands out as the most potent in the poem is found in lines 21 22, But
at my back I always hear/ Time s winged chariot hurrying near. In this line, time is personified as
a driver in a chariot. By giving time a human quality, it helps make his words something that the
audience can connect and relate to as he expresses time in a foreboding, looming sense. This
gives a greater urgency to his request as it emphasizes the small amount of time they have left in
their life, and pressures the mistress to give herself up to him before it is too late. In addition to
demonstrating a strong use of personification, this line also signifies a critical shift in tone of the
piece. Here, the poem shifts from the previous, idealized I would scenarios which were filled
with extravagant exaggerations, to a more urgent and realistic but I can t scenario as he explains
why he will never be able adore her to the great extent that he mentioned previously due to the
finite reality of life. In doing so, he reiterates that if they don t act on their lust, all their potential

Literary Analysis Of Revelation By Flannery OConnor
Revelation
Among many diseases, judgment is an epidemic virus within the human mind; more dangerously
with the lack of discernment can create a toxic atmosphere and such intoxication is highlighted
within the short story, Revelation, by Flannery O Connor. The story is set in the south, and
revolves around an irrational yet religious character, name Mrs. Turpin, who overlooks her own
flaws to cast judgments on others. The author uses language, irony, and archetypes within the story
to present that judgement is a form of unconscious self deception that causes hypocritical behavior
and ultimately self agitation. The author demonstrates this by having the characters cast judgment
upon each other, which makes the act of passing judgment on to others an infectious disease fed by
society.
The usage of informal language in the beginning of the story, produces transparent characters by
exposing their flaws through their speech. Opening with the reckless announcement addressed
by Mrs.Turpin, I wish I could reduce (3). in front of strangers had marked her hasty character.
This early exposure of her flaw notes the tragedy of her character for being quick to speak, quick
to conclude and quick to judge. As Mrs.Turpin begins to build judgment upon others from Girl
Scout Shoes to bedroom slippers as she expects (5) Mrs.Turpin becomes a false believer,
drowning within her own deceptive conclusion by gripping onto her theory of goodness being
carried by people s shoes. Ultimately,

The colonization of the Americas by Spain and the beginning of extensive silver mining in
Japan greatly increased silver production. However, this increase of the supply of silver, while to
some people seemed good, overall caused problems. Although the increase in silver mining
appeared to benefit Japan and Spain the suppliers as well as Ming China the receivers overall this
increase caused worldwide problems. The effect of the increase of silver production, while being
beneficial to the middlemen that facilitated the trade, eventually weakened states empires that

Although this would not affect the economy at all, the basic reason to be frugal is one that the

Furthermore, the affect moneylenders in order to buy things, since they must use silver instead of
a traditional barter economic system ( doc5). The increase impedance to the Chinese economy
would fill the pockets of moneylenders instead of benefiting the economy. Likewise, the increase
in silver production, while benefiting Spain early on, in time hurt the Spanish empire. Tomas de
Mercado, a Spanish scholar, wrote how the high prices of luxury goods caused silver to only flow
out of Spain, hurting the economy (doc2). Mercado wrote this account in 1571, yet already Ming
ships conducted extensive silver trade with the Spanish Empire via Manila. In addition, Antonio
Vasquez de Espinosa, a Spanish priest, shows another side that the silver production affected in
negative way the social side: Vaquez, writing about Potosi, the largest silver mine in Spain s
colonial possessions, describes the terrible condition that Native American dealt with in the labor in
the mines ( doc6).Although the encomienda system had already been dismantled in 1542, Vasquez
shows the continuing manipulation of the Native American population by the Spanish. Vasquez, a
Spanish priest, is obviously a priest

Examples Of Inhumane In Night By Elie Wiesel
Shocking. Frightening. Inhumane. The novel Night, written by Elie Weisel, tells the story
about Eli and his father treacherous days in hell. They belived in God from the very beginning,
and had faith in Him until they went to the concentration camps. During through the Holocaust,
their faith in God became less faithful than ever before. After all the suffering Eli has been
through, he ends up not believing in God. Eli believed in God and wanted to learn more
religions, but after going to the concentration camp seeing a boy getting hanged and see the Jews
suffering, he starts not believing in God. At the Sighet, Eli wants to learn more religions about
God so he can understand God s ways. At Sighet, Eli studied different religions during the day
and at night he would go to the synagogue to weep and pray. He had a friend named Moishe the
Beadle who taught him Zohar every day. One day Moishe said, The real answers, Eliezer, you
will find only within yourself (5). This quote proves that Eli should know within himself how

Whaling Persuasive Essay
Whaling is an old and inhumane practice that should be stopped. In fact the act of commercial
whaling is illegal under international law. Japan still continues this practice today, despite orders to
stop given to the Japanese government by the UN s International Court of Justice in March of 2014
(WDC). Even before that ruling Japan has been asked by the international community to stop
whaling, but they continued to do so through a loop hole in the International Whaling Commission
or IWC. That hole about the size of a loop, says that whaling for scientific research is legal. The
Japanese government should stop illegal practice of whaling because it is inhumane, these whales
will go extinct if this continues, and we the international community have already asked for this
to stop. The act of commercial whaling is inhumane. Japan says that they are doing scientific
research, right. Does the researched include all the economic data of how well whale meat sells
domestically in Japan, along with all the other projects they make out of the whale carcasses.
There can be some understanding that people need to eat and humans have been eating animals
since we have been on this planet. People have domesticated some animals for this exact purpose.
Cattle, pigs, and chickens being the main animals for this in the world. There is some argument of
this matter about how humane current slaughtering practices are, but I see as how much pain the
animal must go through. With these domesticated food sources, like with cattle they have this bolt
pistol or some other conventional firearm, that they put up to the head of the animal and fire it.
This kills the animal instantly or renders it unconscious before the animal is bled. How does this
relate to whaling; the time of death. In whaling the whalers go into the ocean a shoot these
harpoons with rope attached to it out of a cannon at the whales. At the tip of these harpoons there
is a grenade that detonates right after the impact inside the whale (WDCSUK). This would
probably kill anything else instantly, but since whales are so huge they have to wait a couple of
minutes for the poor thing to bleed out. If whaling continues, the affected whale species will go
extinct. Here the

Cultural Issues In Canada
Cultural issues are complicated ones to solve. Sometimes it is even tough to express opinions
about them. It is an area where one has had to establish one s bona fides before weighing in. The
audience has to be assured that the commentator loves Canada more or at least as much as the next
person and is willing to stop at nothing to protect our culture. Trade consultants wanting to mine the
cultural field are well advised to have a Can lit or artistic icon as an immediate family member.
Otherwise, they need not even bother hanging up a shingle.
Of course, this is all rather silly. What we need for Canadian culture is less blather and more
strategy.

Diffusion And Osmosis
Why is diffusion and osmosis important and what were the reasons of the experiments performed?
Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium
by moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to
test the rate of diffusionby measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of
the dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test
whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that
the volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have
affect on the rate of diffusion. The first test was the phenolphthalein agar cube which was
submerged into hydrochloric acid for a total of ten minutes along with other solutions tested in the
dialysis tubing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After analyzing the results of the data the rate of diffusion for the dialysis tubing and the block
showed evidence of how a cell s membrane functions. Nevertheless, after further examination I was
able to determine that diffusion rate does depend on the magnitude of volume or surface area. I
learned that what caused the smaller 1 cm cube to become clear at a much faster rate depended on
the concentration of the hydrochloric acid. In other words if the proportion of the agar cube
increased the concentration of the hydrochloric acid got diluted and therefore became less
effective. As a result, the agar cube was exposed to the strongest concentration of acid therefore
became clear at a faster rate. For future research it would be useful to measure the concentration of
the hydrochloric

Military Maps
In the Yale Center for British Art, one can find a beautiful map, titled: The Description of Jarsey
a(nn)o 1600. One noticeable trait that stands out with this map compared to others in the 16th and
early 17th centuries is the exquisite detail of topographical features. According to an exhibition of
the map, this is from the collection of George Legge, first Baron Dartmouth; previously in the
English Royal map collection (Yale Center, From the Collection). One might wonder why a map,
with the extensive detail that this has, would be in the hands of the Royal Collection and thus
commissioned by Queen Elizabeth. According to R. A. Skelton: it is not difficult to see how, in the
course of business, some maps might have come into the hands... Show more content on

On the map, one can see a tool indicating the scale of the map. This same looking tool can be
found in the book Compass and Rule in an exhibition called Bartholomew Newsam, set of
drawing instruments, c. 1570. This is the only known surviving Elizabethton drawing set in
modern day (Gerbino 61). This tool could have been used to scale the map, which can be seen in
the one square mile gridlines. In addition, by connecting these tools to those used likely by
military engineers, one can assume that the gridlines had a purpose besides denoting the scale
of the map. If only the scale was important, the British could have simply put a key on the map
showing 1 inch = 1 square mile, for example. Since they drew the entire grid, it could be
interpreted as being done to perhaps reproduce the map for military purposes. It may have been
easier to redraw the map to accurate scale by producing these gridlines. Thus, one could predict
that this map may have been reproduced in a smaller form for military personnel to effectively
defend this

The Importance Of Memory
Can you remember memory
Memory has always been a huge part of everyday life whether a conscious mind realizes it or not.
Memory is the set of processes used to encode, store, and retrieve information over different periods
of time. (openstax) Memory helps develop a human s mind and who they will become through life.
Psychology is the study of the human mind and how humans think. Memory is important to
psychology because memory shapes a human s character and continues to push someone through
each and every day. Many ancient beliefs about memory were surprisingly accurate. Plato saw how
one memory can lead to another when he described a lyre that made him think of it owner and then
his friend, until a whole, rich picture of events and associations was called up from a simple,
instrument. (minninger) There are three major processes someone memory presents every day.
These three processes which information passes through are encoding, storage, and retrieval. The
first process information encounters is encoding. Encoding is the input of information into the
memory system. Encoding can occur through a conscious mind or an unconscious mind. When the
mind is unconscious the form of encoding it goes through is called automatic processing, this is
taking in little clues from the surrounding environment such as time. When the mind is conscious
and aware of what it is in taking this is called effortful processing. Effortful processing actual
requires a lot of work such as

Bacon s Rebellion Essay
In 1676, Nathaniel Bacon rebelled and held a revolt in Colonial Virginia. High taxes, low prices
for tobacco, and resentment against special privileges given those close to the governor, Sir
William Berkeley, provided the background for the uprising. These factors made the rebellion
inevitable. All of the chaos was precipitated by Governor Berkeley s failure to defend the frontier
against attacks by Native Americans. Bacon commanded two unauthorized but successful
expeditions against the tribes and was then elected to the new House of Burgesses, which
Berkeley had been forced to convene. Berkeley then sent out a warrant for his arrest and Bacon
was put in jail. Bacon soon was released and he immediately gathered his supporters,... Show more

Moreover, closer to home, there were many problems caused by the crazy weather. The constantly
changing weather left the colony and colonists in chaos. Hailstorms, floods, dry spells, and
hurricanes rocked the colony during one year and had a damaging effect on the colonists.
Inevitably, these difficulties encouraged the colonists to find a scapegoat. They needed to find
something to vent their frustrations and place the blame for their misfortunes. With the immense
frustration and anger among the colonists, they began to scapegoat the local Indians. To ward off
future attacks and to control the situation, Governor Berkeley instigated the matter. He set up what
was to be a disastrous meeting between the parties, which resulted in the murders of several tribal
chiefs. In the meantime, Berkeley continually pleaded for restraint from the colonists. Some,
including Nathaniel Bacon, refused to listen. Bacon disregarded the Governor s direct orders by
seizing some friendly Appomattox Indians for stealing corn. Berkeley scolded him, which caused
the disgruntled Virginians to wonder which man had taken the right action. Significantly, Berkeley
could not compromise earning resentment from about 1,000 Virginians. They fiercely resented
Governor Berkeley for his policies toward the Indians. When Berkeley refused to retaliate for a
series of savage Indians on frontier settlements after monopolization of fur trade, the

ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS Using cross country data, I examine how foreign aid affects
economic growth in developing countries over the period from 1975 to 2000. I find evidence that
foreign aid significantly and negatively correlates with growth in developing countries. However,
foreign aid to inland countries as well as to South Asian countries during the period of 1992 2000
is found to have a positive impact on growth. In addition, a strong divergence trend is found among
countries in the data set. The results suggest that (i) there may be problems in the present aid

literature with various outcomes shown by different authors with different views and models.
Chapter III provides an overview of the regions in the study. Chapter IV describes the data and

impact on economic growth through several mechanisms (i) aid increases investment (ii) aid
increases the capacity to import capital goods or technology (iii) aid does not have an adverse
impact on investment and savings (iv) aid increases the capital productivity and promotes
endogenous technical change (Morrissey, 2001). Papanek (1973), in a cross country regression
analysis of 34 countries in the 1950s and 51 countries in the1960s, treating foreign aid, foreign
investment, other flows and domestic savings as explanatory variables, finds that foreign aid has
a substantially greater effect on growth than the other variables. He explains that aid, unlike
domestic savings, can fill the foreign exchange gap as well as the savings gap. Unlike foreign
private investment and other foreign inflows, aid is supposed to be specifically designed to foster

To simply put, endodontics is the segment of dentistry which tackles the apprehensions about the

The decay is the foundation which wears away the dentin and enamel of the tooth until such time
that it leads you to the root canal. With this, the pulp gets predisposed to bacterial septicity. Usually,
antibiotics would be taken to pacify the pain away but the truth is, the septicity that lies inside the
teeth could never be treated. As the infection gets harsh, it brings forth swelling which then lessens
the supply of blood into the tooth and that leads to the boundless agony since it rids the healing of
the pulp. Another reason that must provoke you to undergo root canal treatment is owing to the
impairment in the pulp that could not be fixed by any means. Fracture or trauma to the tooth could
result in the damage of the pulp. The same thing happens when excessive restoration or fillings

biblical times as well as Ancient Greece, zoonotic diseases were referred to as plagues. One in
particular, in fact the most noted plague, to cross mankind was from 1348 through 1350 called the
black plague. The Black plague is a bacterial infection named Yersinia pestis. The ancient zoonotic
disease was said to be transmitted by an oriental rat fleas carried by black rats who were in direct
contact with humans. These infected rats traveled with humans on ships during trade. In 1348
medication used to treat the black plague were remedies like the vinegar and water treatment.
The vinegar and water treatment directed that the infected person be put to bed and bathed with
vinegar and rose water. Other remedies and medications ordered the infected person to drink a
mixture every morning and every night. This mixture included roasting the shells of newly laid
eggs. Then ground the roasted shells into a powder. Chop up the leaves and petals of marigold
flowers. Put the egg shells and marigolds into a pot of good ale. Add treacle and warm over a fire.

Battlestar Galactica: A Space Exodus
Battlestar Galactica an epic space opera about the last remnants of humanity, the few survivors of
nuclear attack banded together in fleet of spaceships, on an intergalactic journey to find there
mythic homeland of Earth. Though there are other versions of this television show this paper
refers to the 2003 reimagining by showrunner Ronald D Moore. On the surface Battlestar
Galactica might not look like it has a lot in common with The Torah, the story of the Jewish
people who after an exile from their homeland ended up founding Israel, but when looked at
closely these two stories share many commonalities. The book of Exodus, found in The Torah as
well as the old testament of the Bible, tells the story of the enslaved Jewish people who are lead, by
Moses, out of Egypt and after a long and harrowing journey arrive at a divinely promised
homeland. In the following books of Numbers and Deuteronomy we learn that Moses is
forbidden from entering the Promised Land after disobeying God. Battlestar Galactica also
features a people who have lost their home, the Colonist, who end up living under an oppressive
regime on New Caprica. Their leader, President Roslin, is prophesized about in a holy text to have
been predestined to lead the Colonist to their new home. Both the narrative in The Torah and in
Battlestar Galactica share many similar beats; they feature a long suffering people, made up of
twelve tribes, searching for a promised homeland,

The Physics Of An Experiment
In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later
more eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could
conceive of an experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by
examining the dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For
example, the hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms
would separate after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would
measure the spin components whose values are anti correlated after dissociation. If we define our
axis of measuring as the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent
measurement. If the measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin up, measurement along the same
axis for the other atom would yield spin down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is
an interesting experiment because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to
position and momentum conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated
paper with plausible instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought
experiment that is discusses the ideas of Bell s inequalities are as follows. Consider two
observers that are initially together and agree that they will be given red or green balls at regular
intervals, from this they conclude that only red or green 4

Gregory Bateson and his Quest to Unify our Minds
Introduction: Thesis and introduce good old Gregory...1/2 page Gregory Bateson was an
anthropologist, psychoanalyst, and cybernetics who contributed to multiple subfields within
anthropology along with other fields in the social sciences. Bateson never completely settled into
one field, but rather, he synthesized his knowledge to incorporate it into his epistemology and
methodologies. Gregory Bateson s contributions to anthropology range from providing new
methods of ethnography, helping to establish the field of visual anthropology, influencing
ecological, psychological, and linguistics anthropology, to moving cybernetic theory from the
natural sciences to the social sciences.
Background, Education, and Influences: 1 to 2 pages Gregory Bateson was born in
Grantchester, England to an aristocratic family in 1904 (Stagoll 2006). His father, William
Bateson, was a prominent geneticist who founded the Cambridge School of Genetics and coined
the term genetics (Stagoll 2006). William Bateson was a strong advocate of the work of
geneticist Gregor Mendel and named Gregory in his honor (Stagoll 2006). Following in his father

Cambridge where his grandfather, William Henry Bateson, held the position of master (Levy and

The Brain Drain and Revolution in the Late 19th and Early...
Introduction
By the end of the 19th century, Chinese officials were beginning to realize that their country s
educational infrastructure was becoming increasingly anachronistic. Traditional education largely
ignored technology considered it low class, even and students instead focused on cultivating a sense
of moral righteousness. Yet, the Confucian centered examination system was beginning to prove
ineffective in a world where modern militaries predominated in international relations. China
learned this painful lesson during a succession of lost wars, eventually entering a long period of
introspection, quite notably, by first looking outward. Foreign education systems were of particular
interest to this nation in transition. Foreign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the late Qing Empire s encounter with Western civilization was necessarily heralded by
guns, warships, and other new instruments of Western military might. The narrative of China s
dynastic glory was replaced with a newer, less flattering image of China as the sick man of Asia
(Holcombe 193). Fears of the encroaching imperial powers were only heightened after China
lost in the 1865 60 Opium War, as were fears of increasing internal disorder, as evinced by the
1851 64 Taiping Rebellion (Bary 661; Rhoads 1 2). China would later suffer yet another
humiliating defeat in the Sino Japanese War of 1894 5, but they first instituted a series of
reforms in an attempt to curtail foreign dominance, particularly in the military sphere. China thus
entered a period of so called self strengthening, a government led restoration that spanned the
years between 1961 and 1895. This movement was largely a response to these early military
defeats and the nation s perceived sense of inferiority (Rhoads 1 2; Holcombe 201). In a phrase,
the goal of self strengthening projects and the larger Tongzhi Restoration (1862 74) was to emulate
the Western countries and master their technical skills (Holcombe 201; Rhoads 9). In order to do
this, China first had to open its borders to Western influence; the late Qing first allowed

The Central And Picc Line Insertion
I am going to discuss the central and PICC line insertion. I will to base about the safety of the
insertion process. The benefits that come along with choosing to insert a PICC line verse a
peripheral IV. Like most topics, there will be risks involved, but with proper technique, you can
prevent these risks
This paper is going to cover peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and central lines. I am
going to talk about what a PICC line is, how a PICC line is inserted, what the benefits of using a
PICC line are, the risks that come alone with the insertion process, and treatments offered when
using this method. There are many other ways to give treatments besides PICC line. A
peripherally inserted central catheter or PICC line is a thin soft flexible tube (Peripherally
Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). (2015). It is usually inserted in the upper arm just above the
elbow in a main vein that will lead to the heart where the blood flows more rapidly. Midlines are
inserted usually into the vein in the arm. Sometimes you will need to use a leg vein when caring
for infants. They last longer than a regular IV, but not as long as a PICC line. It can usually be
used for 2 4 weeks (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). (2015). The central venous
catheter is placed into a large vein leading into the heart and comes out through a small opening in
the chest area (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). (2015). which they call the exit site.

An Analysis Of William And Co Authors Book
Introduction
Chapter Two of William and co authors book Research Methods particularly focuses on the
importance of ethics (pg.34). A combination of intentional diction, imagery and narration coupled
with an authoritative tone has been used to handle the key issues in this chapter. Deliberate contrast
between the traditional and current perspectives of ethics and its evolution has been employed to
explain and emphasize the need for ethical research work. Through these literary devices and style,
the authors emphasis on ethics despite the fact that it is not enforceable by law is made clear. This
excerpt analyzes how these authors have landed their points on ethics home.
Foundation of ethics in research work
To begin with, the author chooses to use the pronoun you to draw attention towards the foundation
of ethics in research work (pg.34). The use of this pronoun on the introduction is deliberate as the
author wants to put emphasis by making anyone reading the book feel part and parcel of the issue
at hand. Circumstantially, the author manages explain that a research that is conducted ethically
does not only benefit the people who use it but also makes the person doing it feel satisfied. This
direct address to the readership has also been used insist on employment of honesty, integrity and
care for the participant which is the key issue in this chapter. In a bid to make the reader reflect
what impact would conduct a research ethically or unethically have in the

Family Dysfunction, Breeding Future Gang Members
Family Dysfunction, breeding future gang members Gang activity and gang violence have
been a major issue in the urban community for over half a century, dominated by mostly minority
youth. This essay will review the question: Does growing up as a minority with a dysfunctional
family setting aide or contribute to joining a gang, therefore continuing the cycle of gang
violence and activity? In order to dive deeper into this subject, several references from the
internet and Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez will be stated and discussed. After the
discussion of the web articles and passages from the book a solution will be suggested to help
the misguided youth of America to make better life decisions than just throwing their lives away
as expendable tools of urban guerilla warfare. This is a touchy subject to most, as most people
who live in an urban setting know someone either initiated into a gang or affiliated with a gang in
one way or another. This is not a subject that is only skin deep. This is something that was created
out of years of struggle and oppression, until the pressure years of social injustice found an outlet in
the form of rebellion and organizations designed to fight the power that once suppressed them. At
least that is how it began. Now the Gang mentality isn t about protecting the community, it s about
power, local respect, fortune, and most of all fear. These are the same organizations that recruit
children and adolescents to become drug dealers and

Book Review of Night and Dawn Essay
Book Review of Night and Dawn
Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp, which has turned my life into one long
night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I
forget the little wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames
which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me,
for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God
and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am
condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never. (9)

Night opens in 1941 when Eliezer is 12 years old. At the time he is living in the Hungarian town
of Sighet. He is the only son in an Orthodox Jewish household, highly observant of Jewish
tradition. Eliezer keen interest in Judaism brings him to avidly study the Cabbala, a book based
on Jewish mysticism. His instruction is cut short, however, when his teacher, Moche the Beadle,
is deported. Moche returns after a few months with a horrifying tale. The Gestapo, or German
secret police, took charge of his train, led everybody into the woods, and systematically butchered
them. Nobody believes Moche and the small town quickly takes him for a lunatic. Yet, the reality
of Moche s experience becomes evident when a series of increasingly repressive measures are
passed by the Nazi s who occupy Hungary in the spring of 1944. The Jews of Eliezer s town are
herded onto cattle cars, commencing a nightmarish journey: after days and nights crammed into the
car, exhausted and near starvation, the passengers arrive at Birkenau, the gateway to the
concentration camp, Auschwitz.
At Aushwitz, he and his father are separated from his mother and sisters, whom they never see

The NCBE appealed the injunction on the basis that Enyart was unlikely to succeed on merits, that
she had now shown irreparable harm from not having the accommodations, and that the injunction
is not in the public s favor. Enyart argued that the inability to use her preferred accommodation
caused her increased eyestrain and nausea that led to her inability to complete the questions in the
allotted time. This meant that her disability had severe impact on her performance on the exam.
Despite being named the prevailing party and the District Court issuing a primary injunction, Enyart
had not yet received her preferred accommodations on the NCBE administered sections of the
Multistate Bar Exam. The NCBE puts forth the claim that the plaintiff, Enyart has not shown that
she is likely to succeed on merit with the accommodations. They also state that Enyart has not
shown proof of irreparable harm having occurred due to not having her preferred accommodations.
Furthermore, they claim that they have provided satisfactory alternate accommodations other than
TextZoom and JAWS by providing access to a reader, audio tapes, braille version of the exam, and
CCTV footage all of which Enyart has used previously as accommodations. Enyart denies these
claims under the basis that she has proven likely to succeed on merit already in district court and
that by not having the necessary accommodations she endured unneeded harm and thus inability to

Inventions That Shaped America Essay
20th Century Inventions that Shaped America
Throughout history many inventions were invented, but did not have a lasting use like the siege
weapons of medieval times, they had there one use and when that uses was no longer needed the
invention was replaced. However, many things we use and take for granted today were invented in
the 20th century. The first invention to impact the country was the wright brothers invention the
airplane in 1903, the second advancement in technology was from Fritz Harber in 1909 with the
process of ammonia synthesis, the third and final invention was from Henry Ford in 1913 with the
assembly line production process. These inventions may not have been looked at the time they were
invented as something that would last forever and always be in use.

of production while increasing product output. Product output could be raised if production
time could be reduced according to Vaclav Smil Data from Ford cost books show that 151 hours
was needed to make a car in 1906, 39 in 1914 . This reduction in time spent making one car

prior to 1913 a car cost $850 $875, but after 1913 the price dropped 35% to $550 then the next year
it was down to $440, after WWII the price of a car was around $265 (Smil 133). The process of
mass production not only worked for the automotive companies but many other consumer items

The Boom Of The Sultanate Opened
Aiming at diversifying its economy, the Sultanate opened its gates to selective tourism in the late
1980s. Up until 1970, Oman had cut itself off completely from the outside world and very little
was known about the country and its people. Although Muscat had frequently been visited by
trading ships, few people had ever ventured into Oman s interior. Travel accounts of explorers like
Wilfried Thesiger in the 1940s, who was the first European to ever travel through the Rul al Khali,
differ little from those of earlier travelers such as James Wellsted and S.B. Miles in the adventurous
journeys they describe through an unknown land.
While there were no hotels in the 1970s, by the middle part of the next decade, the country boasted
a number of luxury hotels in Muscat that businessmen alone could not fill. In 1987, a cautious
welcome was extended to certain tourist groups and individual travelers. From 1997 to 1999, the
number of hotels in the country nearly doubled from fifty two to a hundred and 102, most of which
were located in Muscat, along the northern coast and in Salalah.
Omani tourism remains a relatively recent phenomenon, having cautiously been initiated in the late
1980s and gaining momentum in the middle part of the following decade. The Sultanate s tourism
development policy, which strives for quality over quantity, is evident in the building of prestigious
five star hotels such as the al Bustan Palace Hotel to house the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council
(AGCC) Summit.

Analysis Of The Book The Wizard Of Oz
The Wizard of OZomoness There is no place like home, Which could not be more true for the
most of us, is a famous quote from The Wizard Of OZ, a movie about a girl who finds herself in a
world different from hers, wishing to return to her farm in Kansas. Along the way, she discovers
many things about herself that she never thought she was capable of. Although her time in the Land
of OZwas just a dream, it sends powerful messages. Not only that there is no place like home,
but that in our dreams we realize who we are. The outside world never sees who we truly are or
what makes us happy. We feel a need to conform to society and act how other people act, so that
we don t stand out. Why wouldn t people express themselves for who they truly are? Bird
Clarkson, a man on a mission, seems to ask a similar question. Clarkson, a faculty member in the
Communication and ARTS Department at Central Michigan University, entered a piece in the
ArtPrize 2016 competition in Grand Rapids (MI) named The Wizard of Ozomoness. It is an
interpretive dance play of sorts that is meant to get kids or people alike to express themselves and
let them know that their dreams can come true. The piece we chose was the backdrop of the

Mrs. Bessie Vanburen was born in July 1816 to Mary and David Windburn. She grew up in the

mother an underpaid seamstress. Bessie attended school in her small town, and as she

attractive man. The two soon became smitten with each other. A few months went by James
decided to ask Bessie for a date. Their relationship was meant to be. After six months James

Odyssey Research Paper
Before the Odyssey is explained, there is much historical information about Ancient Greece to
cover. To begin, the time period that Odyssey is a part of is known as Homeric society. Homeric
society is a concoction of diverging assortments in various points in history. Because the setting is
a combination of different times from several coteries, the story includes many ideas and values
particular to each one. In the 8th century BC, the Mediterranean saw a growth in population after
the dark age, thus leading to the menagerie that the Ancient Greeks partook in. Moving forward,
there is much evidence that suggests that epics were created between 750 and 650 B.C.E. These
stories were set in Mycenaean Greece around the 12th century B.C.E, also known as the Bronze

In order to elicit this pristine age, the Iliad and Odyssey were written in such a style that describes
the lifestyle of those in the great kingdom of the Bronze Age. The Greeks are more often called
Achaeans which is was the name of a tribe that lived in Greece during the Bronze Age (SparkNotes
Editors 3). Moving on, in Ancient Greece, myriads of sacrifices and games were enacted in honor
of their gods and goddesses ( Gods and Festivals 1). Multitudes of competition a pivotal
component in Greece s history also involved music, dramas and athletics( Gods and Festivals 1).
For example, The Olympic Games is Ancient Greece s most well known event. They held The
Olympic Games in honor of the supreme God Zeus. In fact, about half of the year in Athens was
dedicated with sacrificial offerings and festivals to their Gods and Goddesses ( Gods and Festivals

Literature Review On Abacus
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
2.1.1 What is Abacus?
Greek words abax or abakon with the meaning table or tablet are the origin of the word Abacus
(Schools, 2007; Young, 2004). According to Young (2004) abacus is a mathematical device or tool
used by the people for performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Far before the invention of modern computers, abacus has been widely used especially by the
Chinese people for the calculation purposes. The very first abacus was invented around 500
B.C.(UCMAS, 2007). However the modern abacus that we know today was the one been used in
China started around 1300 A.D.(UCMAS, 2007).

The main advantage of mobile educational game is that it enables the users to learn in non
classroom environment such as home and public areas (Kim et al., n.d. ). Besides, mobile games
are interactive because mobile games enabled players to interact with the games environment and
thus make the games more interesting and the players have the sense of engagement which will
draw their attention (Miangah Nezarat2, 2012). Besides, mobile games help people to save
money as they do no need to purchase an expensive console or computer in order to play the
games (Paper, 2009). Furthermore, mobile phone is convenient to bring around and thus increase
the mobility (Shameem, 2012). Mobility as mentioned above is the main reason why people play
mobile games as compared to other digital gaming (Fritsch et al., n.d.).
2.4.3 Disadvantages
The main disadvantages of mobile educational games is the distraction factors. When children plays
with the mobile phones, they will face the distraction with the incoming calls or messages and also
they will also tend to play with casual and entertainment based games as compared to educational
games when they play alone without the guidance of the parents (Fritsch et al., n.d.).

Coastal marine ecosystems are a very important part of the coastal economy as well as the natural
ecology. Not only do coastal systems provide socioeconomic benefits such as tourism and
aesthetics, but also several ecosystem services. The ecosystem services provided by coast
environments include coastal erosion, storm protection, recreational or commercial fishing, carbon
sequestration and filtration (Wingard and Lorenz, 2014). Unfortunately, these services have been
impacted by pressures such as altered flow of freshwater runoff, sea level rise (which in turn also
increases the frequency and intensity of storms) and man made channels (Wingard and Lorenz,
2014). Another major factor that has impacted and deteriorated many coastal areas is urbanization...

the student s authenticity. Foley states, filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go
through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs, (232). Foley
knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals
and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students character,
personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write.
On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer s and reader s
most basic need. The problem is not that the Five Paragraph formula produces incoherence but
rather that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence, (232) states Foley. This
allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays.
Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they
have mastered structure. Foley states, To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic
relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so,
(232). Juxtaposition is not

Relationship Between Biological, Psychological And Social...
Over the course of the semester, we have discussed the complex relationship between biological,
psychological, and social factors in relation to psychological disorders. For this paper, I will be
discussing how psychological and social (psychosocial) interventions can positively affect AIDS
and cancer. Typically, psychological and social factors influence your health in two ways, which
include: affecting the basic biological processes that lead to illness and disease and long standing
behavior patterns may put people at risk to develop certain physical disorders (Durand 277). The
first disease that I will be discussing is AIDS, which is the final stage of HIV. In our book, the
authors discuss the overall effects of psychosocial interventions

Everybody Dance Now Analysis
Sun Woo Kim: Paper #1
Regardless of the era, people who belong to it will dance at least once in their lifetime. One can go
as far as to say that dancing is crucial to one s overall happiness. Realizing this significance, C+C
Music Factory produced a song called Gonna Make You Sweat to inspire the world to dance. It
reached its peak in the week of February 5th, the day I was born and stayed on the Billboard 100
number one for mere two weeks.
Gonna Make You Sweat, or also known as Everybody Dance Now, is a song by C+C Music
Factory. This song is comprised of two components, the rap and vocal, performed by Freedom
Williams and disco/house artist Martha Wash. After it was released in December 1990, it was
considered a worldwide smash and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in
February 1991. This song was also number one on Billboard s Top R B Singles and on Hot Dance
Music/Club Play as well.
Most songs that are of such hype do not contain lyrics of much substance; nonetheless, ... Show

It has fast tempo and a regular rhythm. Martha Wash sings Everybody Dance Now and is later
followed by the rap of Freedom Williams. This illustrates the combination of both rap and gospel
type vocal. The chorus gives the song repetition that allows the audience to feel at ease and enjoy
the upbeat music. Also, Wash s chorus is very high pitched and produces much tension within the
listener; nonetheless, William s low key rap gives the resolution that they need.
C+C Music Factory were a group comprised of extremely skilled members and it is not
surprising that they produced a hit like that of Gonna Make You Sweat. As a group effort, they
created a music with lyrics that gave rise to ecstatic emotions within the audience and with just the
right musical style. It is a shame that it was released the week I was born; I wish to have lived
during that week to experience the effects the song had on the

Analysis Of Samuel Wallace s Unfinished Business
Unfinished Business
Samuel Wallace was tired of being humiliated and degraded by his boss, Mr. Marin, so one
Monday, Samuel killed him.
Samuel had worked for Mr. Marin for 10 years, and had never once been told thank you. The
closest he ever got was a grunt when the morning coffee he prepared wasn t warm enough or the
tax receipts weren t in two weeks in advance. After months of intolerable lecturing, Samuel decided
that on the 10th anniversary of his joining the firm, he would stab his boss.
The plan was simple. Too simple. As if, subconsciously, it had been taking shape for a long time.
His 10th anniversary was on a Monday. Fortunately, that was the day that Mr. Marin spent alone in
his office all morning. He played blackjack with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had to keep reminding himself that everything must appear to be normal. With all of his
strength, Samuel tried to force himself to focus on his work. However, he couldn t stop his hands
from shaking as he finalized the details of the Jacobson merger.
Mr. Marin, right on cue, came in at eight and asked Emily, his assistant, to take all of his phone
calls and leave him alone as he would be very busy all morning. As he was entering his office, he
turned his eye to Samuel and sneered, I need to talk to you after lunch. Samuel nodded, noticing the
pause in the surrounding staff, which indicated that they had heard his remark.
At twelve, Samuel packed his briefcase and walked over to the reception, alerting Miranda that
he would be leaving for lunch and would be back at one. Miranda nodded, disinterested. Samuel
then walked to the fire escape, however that day, instead of beginning his descent, he placed his
briefcase in the inside of the door and headed towards Mr. Marin s office. Closing his fist tightly,
Samuel raised his trembling limb and lightly knocked on the wooden office door, one, two, three
times. No answer, but he didn t exactly expect one. Silently, Samuel reached for the metal
doorknob, around which he had carefully wrapped a handkerchief. He wasn t going to leave any
fingerprints behind.
Samuel entered the office and locked the door after him. Behind a huge

Putin In 1984
In the novel, 1984 by George Orwell the corrupt fictional government of Oceania closely resembles
the real life government of Russia, whose unscrupulous actions have been condemned for over 120
years.
Much like Big Brother from the novel 1984, Russian President Vladimir Putin controls the news
that his citizens are allowed to view. Every piece of information released in Russia is carefully
selected and monitored by the government, dubbed the Kremlin (Shuster, and McDonald gibson).
For the last 10 years that Putin has been in power, the Russian government has faced many ups and
downs. The main news source in Russia, RT, is a state sponsored news source that is popular on an
international level. RT was founded by Putin himself, when founded ... Show more content on

Current President, Vladimir Putin once again ran a campaign that is unopposed. Before the
Presidential election actually took place, Russian government officials scrambled to implement a so
called ...crackdown on allegedly corrupt officials. (Bennetts). Immediately the country began to
arrest these supposedly corrupt officials on countless charges associated with corruption within the
government. The Russian state news called this act a purge of corrupt officials (Bennetts). This
draining of the swamp, if you will, came after the country s only independent pollster reported that
67% of citizens held Putin responsible for the large amounts of fraud and embezzlement in their
country (Bennetts). This rampant corruption is leaving the citizens of Russia in unrest. Many have
took to protesting (Bennetts). This isn t the first time that governmental corruption has lead to

The Usage Of Surf Culture In Hollywood And Film Industry
Movie industry has changed a lot over the past decades, from the developments of technology to
the material of plot. When it comes to surf culture, media and film industry have played a
significant role on the representation of the surfing and the surfers. In the non surfer crowd s mind,
the surf culture is defined by the way that the media and the surf related movies represent it and in
the most cases, filmindustry shows the viewer want they would like to see and what is more
convenient, and not the truth and the reality. In the modern time, the media and internet plays a
huge role on people s daily life and what they see in the screen become what they tend to believe.

Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric...
In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a)
type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the
same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius,
r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes
depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects.
Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core
region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1.
For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the
valence bandmaximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductormaterials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i,
E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each
nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to
the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction
(valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and
the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, Оµ_1,
Оµ_2 and Оµ_3 are dielectric constants of core, shell and external medium, respectively. For
simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind of nanocrystal is

My Favourite Holiday Essay
The 7 day stay in Zermatt, Switzerland was my favorite trip to date. The crisp, chilly air. The
clear and blue skies and greenery everywhere blanketed by snow. It was a town I wouldn t mind
to live in for the rest of my life. It was the perfect place to unwind in after the hardest trip ever
from Milan.
It was pretty early when we started to get into our taxi for the 30 minute ride to Milano Centrale,
the city s most famous station and landmark. But it was 10 minutes into the ride when we had
received a call from the hotel, saying that there is one piece of luggage that they had forgotten to
load into the taxi. As we were in a very tight schedule, we urged the taxi driver to try to beat the
traffic so that we wouldn t miss our train. We finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Italy was known for its reckless drivers and complicated streets, so naturally we got stuck in the
middle of it. As we inched slowly through the traffic, I could hear my dad sigh repeatedly and my
sister starting to get impatient, bombarding my mom with questions regarding our trip and
destination. It was then when we had noticed our driver was muttering in Italian with an alarmed
look on his face, I leaned forward and followed his gaze towards the station which was just a few
miles ahead. That was when I noticed a huge crowd occupying the street in front of the station. It
was evident by the colorful signs and muted chants that a protest that was taking place. There
were cars and trucks and army police surrounding them, barking commands in Italian while they

next thing we see are hundreds of people running in all directions as the police threw sound
bombs. We were terrified to say the least, gawking out the window and the flurry of Italian youth
clambered through the traffic to get away from the advancing forces. Eventually after waiting for
so long, traffic was diverted to go around the complex and finally reaching the back of the train

Lee Brice-Personal Narrative
My favorite and my only concert I ve been to was when I went and watched Lee Brice at the
Sioux Empire Fair. I had went and watched with Vicki Loger, Erin Walstead, and Dallas. It was a
fun experience since I have never been to a concert. I had no idea what to expect but it was fun.
He was pretty good, but low expectations. His voice wasn t as good as I thought it would be. He
was little more oversized in real life which made me mad because he probably uses that weird
junk to make him lose about 20 pounds. I sang along to most of his songs, but what really made
me mad is that he sang his less known songs last. It was disappointing, I had a fun time with other
friends though. The fair is always fun with friends, but not when Lee Brice sucks.

The Argument And Critical Inquiry Essay
1.When was the last time you got into an argument? What is an argument? Is it the same as a
shouting match, a brawl? What does an argument have to do with critical thinking? What is the
relationship between arguments and critical inquiry?
The last time that I was involved in an argument, was on the drive to Cypress Hills. The argument
was based on whether the Cypress Hills are Mountains or Hills. An argument is a set of claims, that
is supported by premises. Although an argument may lead to a shouting match or a brawl, they are
speaking of the word argument in a different context. There is more than one definition to the word
argument. In our case we are interested in arguments as a set of claims, not a yelling match between
two people. Arguments are related to critical thinking, since you must evaluate the issue and form a
reasoned judgement.
2.Do you think teachers should teach students how to argue well? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I think knowing how to form and structure sound, valid arguments is important. Students
should also learn common flaws and fallacies to arguments. Teaching students how to argue well,
allows them to create arguments based on evidence. Knowing these skills allows students to
evaluate issues and form reasoned judgements, which is beneficial in every day life. These skills
can be taught many ways in school, for example through the implementation of debates or the art of
essay writing and can be used cross circular in many

The Day I Enlisted During The United States Army
The day I enlisted in the United States Army is the day my life changed and everything else

years. Until the new election came and that s when my father got released from his job. With my
mother the only one working she had many mouths to feed, my dad would do the best he could

I was sold, then told him that this is the perfect job for me. I didn t know what I was getting
myself into. It was hard for my parents to accept that I was joining the Army, especially my
mom, all she could think of was that I was going to war and bad things could happen to me. She
didn t want me to experience that kind of life and she couldn t bear the thought of losing one of
her own children. So the day I flew off to basic I told my parents, Everything will be fine trust
me . This was my first time leaving the islands and being away from my family for a good while.
So myself and two of my buddies started basic training together, we stuck together as soon as we
got to 30th AG. I didn t know what I was getting myself into I have never seen so many different
people in one area. I have never experienced being away on my own for the first time, I had no
clue what was going on. I wanted to give up and quit, but I told myself no! I cannot go back
home as a quitter, ever since then, my motivation that kept me going was my family and friends, I
wanted them to be proud of who I ve become. I graduated basic training February 2005 with Fort

Film Critique Of Spike Lee s Malcolm X

Film Critique 3
Spike Lee s Malcolm X celebrates an American life that began in sorrow and bottomed out in
prison before the hero reinvented himself. Watching the film, I understood more clearly that
people really do have the power to change their own lives, how fate does not deal all of the cards,
and that we have strength within us to be the change that the world needs we don t always have to
rely on a hero to come along, we can be that hero ourselves.. The film is both inspirational and
educational while also very entertaining, something movies must be before they can be anything
else.
The hero was born Malcolm Little. Malcolm became a minister later in his life, but first he had
to go through a series of identities and conversions and hard lessons of life. He became a victim
of violence. He was the brightest student in his classes but was steered away from any significant
career choices by white teachers who told him that, as a Negro, he should look for something
where he could work with his hands. In Harlem, he became a small time gangster.
During that stage of his life, in the late 1940s, he was known as Detroit Red, and ran with a fast
crowd among this crowd were some white women who were there for burglaries and sexual
pleasure. Malcolm was sentenced to prison one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as later, disappearing into a group of pilgrims to

  • 2. A Brief History of Time Summary Essay Theoretical Physics, a modern topic of science with an extremely deterring sound and famous for being beyond complex, is a subject which cannot be explained with ease. Stephen Hawking, the most famous living scientist today, wrote A Brief History of Time in 1988, updated in 1996, in order to take upon this daunting task of explaining basic theoretical physicsto a population who had previously barely studied any science. Within A Brief History of Time, Hawking touches upon seven topics in depth while easily explaining them in a simple manner: our picture of the universe, space and time, the expanding universe, the uncertainty principle, elementary particles and the forces of nature, black holes, and the origin and fate of the universe.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the ether was created. Albert Einstein proposed though that the ether was not needed, for objects do not have to be at absolute rest as long as there was no absolute time. Thus, the theory of relativity was developed. In his discussion of light, Hawking cites that light is described by a cone. The top of the cone represents the future path of light, the bottom half of the cone represents the past path of the light, while the central vertex represents the actual light. In the third chapter, Hawking takes upon the continuous and accelerated expansion of the universe. In order to prove this, he uses the Doppler shift which is almost identical to the Doppler Effect. In sound, the Doppler Effect creates an increasingly louder sound as the event approaches us, and then as the event moves away the sound begins to dull. In light the same basis applies, but with a color shift. Blue shifting and red shifting are the opposite effects of the Doppler shift . When objects are moving away from us, their light is shifted in the red direction on the electromagnetic spectrum. Inversely, as objects approach us; their light is shifted in the blue direction. Hawking uses this to prove the expansion of the universe, for many stars found by Edwin Hubble, of whom the Hubble telescope is named after, are observed to be red shifted. Thus, Hawking cites the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Personification In To His Coy Mistress An affliction that has plagued human existence is the finite nature of our lives and managing its limitations as they intertwine with various aspects of our reality. One approach to life is illustrated by the popular phrase, Carpe Diem, or Seize the Day. Seeking out a similar sentiment, Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress stresses the urgency of timeas a means to seduce an unnamed mistress. He convinces her that their days are numbered and rather than being so guarded, they should live those days to the fullest together before they fade away. The author communicates his message through the use of literary devicessuch as hyperbole, personification, and paradox. As a poem whose speaker is one with an overarching goal of seduction and ... In this line, time is personified as a driver in a chariot. By giving time a human quality, it helps make his words something that the audience can connect and relate to as he expresses time in a foreboding, looming sense. This gives a greater urgency to his request as it emphasizes the small amount of time they have left in their life, and pressures the mistress to give herself up to him before it is too late. In addition to demonstrating a strong use of personification, this line also signifies a critical shift in tone of the piece. Here, the poem shifts from the previous, idealized I would scenarios which were filled with extravagant exaggerations, to a more urgent and realistic but I can t scenario as he explains why he will never be able adore her to the great extent that he mentioned previously due to the finite reality of life. • 5. Literary Analysis Of Revelation By Flannery OConnor Revelation Among many diseases, judgment is an epidemic virus within the human mind; more dangerously with the lack of discernment can create a toxic atmosphere and such intoxication is highlighted within the short story, Revelation, by Flannery O Connor. The story is set in the south, and revolves around an irrational yet religious character, name Mrs. Turpin, who overlooks her own flaws to cast judgments on others. The author uses language, irony, and archetypes within the story to present that judgement is a form of unconscious self deception that causes hypocritical behavior and ultimately self agitation. The author demonstrates this by having the characters cast judgment upon each other, which makes the act of passing judgment on to others an infectious disease fed by society. The usage of informal language in the beginning of the story, produces transparent characters by exposing their flaws through their speech. Opening with the reckless announcement addressed by Mrs.Turpin, I wish I could reduce (3). in front of strangers had marked her hasty character. This early exposure of her flaw notes the tragedy of her character for being quick to speak, quick to conclude and quick to judge. As Mrs.Turpin begins to build judgment upon others from Girl Scout Shoes to bedroom slippers as she expects (5) Mrs.Turpin becomes a false believer, drowning within her own deceptive conclusion by gripping onto her theory of goodness being carried by people s shoes. • 8. Whaling Persuasive Essay Whaling is an old and inhumane practice that should be stopped. In fact the act of commercial whaling is illegal under international law. Japan still continues this practice today, despite orders to stop given to the Japanese government by the UN s International Court of Justice in March of 2014 (WDC). Even before that ruling Japan has been asked by the international community to stop whaling, but they continued to do so through a loop hole in the International Whaling Commission or IWC. That hole about the size of a loop, says that whaling for scientific research is legal. The Japanese government should stop illegal practice of whaling because it is inhumane, these whales will go extinct if this continues, and we the international community have already asked for this to stop. The act of commercial whaling is inhumane. Japan says that they are doing scientific research, right. Does the researched include all the economic data of how well whale meat sells domestically in Japan, along with all the other projects they make out of the whale carcasses. There can be some understanding that people need to eat and humans have been eating animals since we have been on this planet. People have domesticated some animals for this exact purpose. Cattle, pigs, and chickens being the main animals for this in the world. There is some argument of this matter about how humane current slaughtering practices are, but I see as how much pain the animal must go through. With these domesticated food sources, like with cattle they have this bolt pistol or some other conventional firearm, that they put up to the head of the animal and fire it. This kills the animal instantly or renders it unconscious before the animal is bled. How does this relate to whaling; the time of death. In whaling the whalers go into the ocean a shoot these harpoons with rope attached to it out of a cannon at the whales. At the tip of these harpoons there is a grenade that detonates right after the impact inside the whale (WDCSUK). This would probably kill anything else instantly, but since whales are so huge they have to wait a couple of minutes for the poor thing to bleed out. If whaling continues, the affected whale species will go extinct. Here the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Diffusion And Osmosis Why is diffusion and osmosis important and what were the reasons of the experiments performed? Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium by moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to test the rate of diffusionby measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of the dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that the volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have affect on the rate of diffusion. The first test was the phenolphthalein agar cube which was submerged into hydrochloric acid for a total of ten minutes along with other solutions tested in the dialysis tubing.... Nevertheless, after further examination I was able to determine that diffusion rate does depend on the magnitude of volume or surface area. In other words if the proportion of the agar cube increased the concentration of the hydrochloric acid got diluted and therefore became less effective. As a result, the agar cube was exposed to the strongest concentration of acid therefore became clear at a faster rate. This same looking tool can be found in the book Compass and Rule in an exhibition called Bartholomew Newsam, set of drawing instruments, c. 1570. This is the only known surviving Elizabethton drawing set in modern day (Gerbino 61). This tool could have been used to scale the map, which can be seen in the one square mile gridlines. In addition, by connecting these tools to those used likely by military engineers, one can assume that the gridlines had a purpose besides denoting the scale of the map. If only the scale was important, the British could have simply put a key on the map showing 1 inch = 1 square mile, for example. Since they drew the entire grid, it could be interpreted as being done to perhaps reproduce the map for military purposes. It may have been easier to redraw the map to accurate scale by producing these gridlines. • 13. The Importance Of Memory Can you remember memory Memory has always been a huge part of everyday life whether a conscious mind realizes it or not. Memory is the set of processes used to encode, store, and retrieve information over different periods of time. (openstax) Memory helps develop a human s mind and who they will become through life. Psychology is the study of the human mind and how humans think. Memory is important to psychology because memory shapes a human s character and continues to push someone through each and every day. Many ancient beliefs about memory were surprisingly accurate. Plato saw how one memory can lead to another when he described a lyre that made him think of it owner and then his friend, until a whole, rich picture of events and associations was called up from a simple, instrument. (minninger) There are three major processes someone memory presents every day. These three processes which information passes through are encoding, storage, and retrieval. The first process information encounters is encoding. Encoding is the input of information into the memory system. Encoding can occur through a conscious mind or an unconscious mind. When the mind is unconscious the form of encoding it goes through is called automatic processing, this is taking in little clues from the surrounding environment such as time. When the mind is conscious and aware of what it is in taking this is called effortful processing. Effortful processing actual requires a lot of work such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the immense frustration and anger among the colonists, they began to scapegoat the local Indians. To ward off future attacks and to control the situation, Governor Berkeley instigated the matter. He set up what was to be a disastrous meeting between the parties, which resulted in the murders of several tribal chiefs. In the meantime, Berkeley continually pleaded for restraint from the colonists. Some, including Nathaniel Bacon, refused to listen. Battlestar Galactic A Space Exodus Battlestar Galactica: A Space Exodus Battlestar Galactica an epic space opera about the last remnants of humanity, the few survivors of nuclear attack banded together in fleet of spaceships, on an intergalactic journey to find there mythic homeland of Earth. Though there are other versions of this television show this paper refers to the 2003 reimagining by showrunner Ronald D Moore. On the surface Battlestar Galactica might not look like it has a lot in common with The Torah, the story of the Jewish people who after an exile from their homeland ended up founding Israel, but when looked at closely these two stories share many commonalities. The book of Exodus, found in The Torah as well as the old testament of the Bible, tells the story of the enslaved Jewish people who are lead, by Moses, out of Egypt and after a long and harrowing journey arrive at a divinely promised homeland. In the following books of Numbers and Deuteronomy we learn that Moses is forbidden from entering the Promised Land after disobeying God. Battlestar Galactica also features a people who have lost their home, the Colonist, who end up living under an oppressive regime on New Caprica. Their leader, President Roslin, is prophesized about in a holy text to have been predestined to lead the Colonist to their new home. Both the narrative in The Torah and in Battlestar Galactica share many similar beats; they feature a long suffering people, made up of twelve tribes, searching for a promised homeland, ... • 23. The Physics Of An Experiment In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later more eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could conceive of an experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by examining the dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For example, the hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms would separate after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would measure the spin components whose values are anti correlated after dissociation. If we define our axis of measuring as the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent measurement. If the measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin up, measurement along the same axis for the other atom would yield spin down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is an interesting experiment because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to position and momentum conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated paper with plausible instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought experiment that is discusses the ideas of Bell s inequalities are as follows. Consider two observers that are initially together and agree that they will be given red or green balls at regular intervals, from this they conclude that only red or green 4 ... Introduction By the end of the 19th century, Chinese officials were beginning to realize that their country s educational infrastructure was becoming increasingly anachronistic. Traditional education largely ignored technology considered it low class, even and students instead focused on cultivating a sense of moral righteousness. Yet, the Confucian centered examination system was beginning to prove ineffective in a world where modern militaries predominated in international relations. China learned this painful lesson during a succession of lost wars, eventually entering a long period of introspection, quite notably, by first looking outward. In fact, the late Qing Empire s encounter with Western civilization was necessarily heralded by guns, warships, and other new instruments of Western military might. The narrative of China s dynastic glory was replaced with a newer, less flattering image of China as the sick man of Asia (Holcombe 193). Fears of the encroaching imperial powers were only heightened after China lost in the 1865 60 Opium War, as were fears of increasing internal disorder, as evinced by the 1851 64 Taiping Rebellion (Bary 661; Rhoads 1 2). China would later suffer yet another humiliating defeat in the Sino Japanese War of 1894 5, but they first instituted a series of reforms in an attempt to curtail foreign dominance, particularly in the military sphere. China thus entered a period of so called self strengthening, a government led restoration that spanned the years between 1961 and 1895. This movement was largely a response to these early military defeats and the nation s perceived sense of inferiority (Rhoads 1 2; Holcombe 201). In a phrase, the goal of self strengthening projects and the larger Tongzhi Restoration (1862 74) was to emulate the Western countries and master their technical skills (Holcombe 201; Rhoads 9). In order to dive deeper into this subject, several references from the internet and Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez will be stated and discussed. After the discussion of the web articles and passages from the book a solution will be suggested to help the misguided youth of America to make better life decisions than just throwing their lives away as expendable tools of urban guerilla warfare. This is a touchy subject to most, as most people who live in an urban setting know someone either initiated into a gang or affiliated with a gang in one way or another. This is not a subject that is only skin deep. This is something that was created out of years of struggle and oppression, until the pressure years of social injustice found an outlet in the form of rebellion and organizations designed to fight the power that once suppressed them. Up until 1970, Oman had cut itself off completely from the outside world and very little was known about the country and its people. Although Muscat had frequently been visited by trading ships, few people had ever ventured into Oman s interior. Travel accounts of explorers like Wilfried Thesiger in the 1940s, who was the first European to ever travel through the Rul al Khali, differ little from those of earlier travelers such as James Wellsted and S.B. Miles in the adventurous journeys they describe through an unknown land. While there were no hotels in the 1970s, by the middle part of the next decade, the country boasted a number of luxury hotels in Muscat that businessmen alone could not fill. In 1987, a cautious welcome was extended to certain tourist groups and individual travelers. From 1997 to 1999, the number of hotels in the country nearly doubled from fifty two to a hundred and 102, most of which were located in Muscat, along the northern coast and in Salalah. Omani tourism remains a relatively recent phenomenon, having cautiously been initiated in the late 1980s and gaining momentum in the middle part of the following decade. Along the way, she discovers many things about herself that she never thought she was capable of. Although her time in the Land of OZwas just a dream, it sends powerful messages. Not only that there is no place like home, but that in our dreams we realize who we are. The outside world never sees who we truly are or what makes us happy. We feel a need to conform to society and act how other people act, so that we don t stand out. Why wouldn t people express themselves for who they truly are? Bird Clarkson, a man on a mission, seems to ask a similar question. The Five Paragraph Essayformula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader s need for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted. Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five Paragraph Essay formula squelches the student s authenticity. Foley states, filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs, (232). Foley knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students character, personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write. On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer s and reader s most basic need. The problem is not that the Five Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence, (232) states Foley. This allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays. Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they have mastered structure. Foley states, To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so, (232). Over the course of the semester, we have discussed the complex relationship between biological, psychological, and social factors in relation to psychological disorders. For this paper, I will be discussing how psychological and social (psychosocial) interventions can positively affect AIDS and cancer. Typically, psychological and social factors influence your health in two ways, which include: affecting the basic biological processes that lead to illness and disease and long standing behavior patterns may put people at risk to develop certain physical disorders (Durand 277). The first disease that I will be discussing is AIDS, which is the final stage of HIV. In our book, the authors discuss the overall effects of psychosocial interventions ... One can go as far as to say that dancing is crucial to one s overall happiness. Realizing this significance, C+C Music Factory produced a song called Gonna Make You Sweat to inspire the world to dance. It reached its peak in the week of February 5th, the day I was born and stayed on the Billboard 100 number one for mere two weeks. Gonna Make You Sweat, or also known as Everybody Dance Now, is a song by C+C Music Factory. This song is comprised of two components, the rap and vocal, performed by Freedom Williams and disco/house artist Martha Wash. After it was released in December 1990, it was considered a worldwide smash and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in February 1991. This song was also number one on Billboard s Top R B Singles and on Hot Dance Music/Club Play as well. Most songs that are of such hype do not contain lyrics of much substance; nonetheless, ... This illustrates the combination of both rap and gospel type vocal. The chorus gives the song repetition that allows the audience to feel at ease and enjoy the upbeat music. Also, Wash s chorus is very high pitched and produces much tension within the listener; nonetheless, William s low key rap gives the resolution that they need. C+C Music Factory were a group comprised of extremely skilled members and it is not surprising that they produced a hit like that of Gonna Make You Sweat. As a group effort, they created a music with lyrics that gave rise to ecstatic emotions within the audience and with just the right musical style. The closest he ever got was a grunt when the morning coffee he prepared wasn t warm enough or the tax receipts weren t in two weeks in advance. After months of intolerable lecturing, Samuel decided that on the 10th anniversary of his joining the firm, he would stab his boss. The plan was simple. Too simple. As he was entering his office, he turned his eye to Samuel and sneered, I need to talk to you after lunch. Samuel nodded, noticing the pause in the surrounding staff, which indicated that they had heard his remark. At twelve, Samuel packed his briefcase and walked over to the reception, alerting Miranda that he would be leaving for lunch and would be back at one. Miranda nodded, disinterested. Samuel then walked to the fire escape, however that day, instead of beginning his descent, he placed his briefcase in the inside of the door and headed towards Mr. Marin s office. Closing his fist tightly, Samuel raised his trembling limb and lightly knocked on the wooden office door, one, two, three times. No answer, but he didn t exactly expect one. Silently, Samuel reached for the metal doorknob, around which he had carefully wrapped a handkerchief. He wasn t going to leave any fingerprints behind. • 49. Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric... In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence bandmaximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductormaterials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction (valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. • 52. The Argument And Critical Inquiry Essay 1.When was the last time you got into an argument? What is an argument? Is it the same as a shouting match, a brawl? What does an argument have to do with critical thinking? What is the relationship between arguments and critical inquiry? The last time that I was involved in an argument, was on the drive to Cypress Hills. The argument was based on whether the Cypress Hills are Mountains or Hills. An argument is a set of claims, that is supported by premises. Although an argument may lead to a shouting match or a brawl, they are speaking of the word argument in a different context. There is more than one definition to the word argument. In our case we are interested in arguments as a set of claims, not a yelling match between two people. Arguments are related to critical thinking, since you must evaluate the issue and form a reasoned judgement. 2.Do you think teachers should teach students how to argue well? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, I think knowing how to form and structure sound, valid arguments is important. Students should also learn common flaws and fallacies to arguments. Teaching students how to argue well, allows them to create arguments based on evidence. Knowing these skills allows students to evaluate issues and form reasoned judgements, which is beneficial in every day life. These skills can be taught many ways in school, for example through the implementation of debates or the art of essay writing and can be used cross circular in many ... Film Critique Of Spike Lee s Malcolm X Isabella Pirl Malcolm X Spike Lee 1992 Film Critique 3 Spike Lee s Malcolm X celebrates an American life that began in sorrow and bottomed out in prison before the hero reinvented himself. Watching the film, I understood more clearly that people really do have the power to change their own lives, how fate does not deal all of the cards, and that we have strength within us to be the change that the world needs we don t always have to rely on a hero to come along, we can be that hero ourselves.. The film is both inspirational and educational while also very entertaining, something movies must be before they can be anything else. The hero was born Malcolm Little. Malcolm became a minister later in his life, but first he had to go through a series of identities and conversions and hard lessons of life. He became a victim of violence. He was the brightest student in his classes but was steered away from any significant career choices by white teachers who told him that, as a Negro, he should look for something where he could work with his hands.
