Ctenophores are small but excellent swimmers that can be found worldwide in marine environments. They have two cell layers and are transparent with some pigmentation. They use rows of cilia to propel themselves and display bioluminescence at night. Ctenophores are hermaphrodites that eat small larvae, plankton, and crustaceans. Their origins are not well understood due to differing fossils.
