This document discusses cloud computing concepts like IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and CSB and provides examples of companies that offer professional cloud services or CSB as a service. It also outlines strategies for developing a cloud adoption roadmap, including creating a cloud strategy, assessing readiness, defining projects, conducting cost/benefit analysis, and implementing pilots. The document provides a case study of how Harvard Business Publishing reinvented its business using Amazon Web Services and discusses Adidas Latin America's implementation of the Coupa procurement software.

The Benefits of Cloud Computing for Application Modernizationbasilmph
Application modernization is the process of updating outdated software to harness the potential of new computing approaches. This includes adapting to modern languages, tech frameworks, and cutting-edge infrastructure platforms. Sometimes referred to as legacy modernization, it bears a remarkable similarity to renovating an old home - it's all about capitalizing on enhancements in efficiency, safety, structural integrity, and more.

Virtualization and Cloud Computing World: An Introduction
The emergence of cloud computing and its increasing popularity have brought new benefits from very different industries (Buyya, Yeo, Venugopal, Broberg, and Brandic, 2009). Cloud computing can provide innovative solutions for the companies to reduce cost, improve service performance, and make rapid responses to business changes (Heinle & Strebel, 2010). The financial services industry is one of such industries that must react very agilely to changes and thus can be an eligible consumer of cloud computing.
For the traditional on premise model, financial institutions have their own datacenters, hosting and maintenance of infrastructure, whereas cloud computing - like any IT outsourcing - transfers the responsibilities to the service provider (Duisberg et al., 2011).
Cloud computing is an emerging area that affects IT infrastructure, network services, and applications. Part 1 of this article introduces various aspects of cloud computing, including the rationale, underlying models, and infrastructures.
The term "cloud computing" has different connotations for IT professionals, depending upon their point of view and often their own products and offerings. As with all emerging areas, real-world deployments and customer success stories will generate a better understanding of the term. This discussion starts with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) definition:
"Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction."Major Models in Cloud Computing
Although there is broad agreement on these models, there are variations based on specific vendor offerings—not surprising during these early days of cloud computing.
Software as a Service
Consider the case of an enterprise with its set of software licenses for the various applications it uses. These applications could be in human resources, finance, or customer relationship management, to name a few. Instead of obtaining desktop and server licenses for software products it uses, an enterprise can obtain the same functions through a hosted service from a provider through a network connection. The interface to the software is usually through a web browser. This common cloud-computing model is known as Software as a Service (SaaS) or a hosted software model; the provider is known as the SaaS Provider.
SaaS saves the complexity of software installation, maintenance, upgrades, and patches (for example, for security fixes) for the IT team within the enterprise, because the software is now managed centrally at the SaaS provider's facilities. Also, the SaaS provider can provide this service to multip.
The Ultimate Guide to Cloud Migration - A Whitepaper by RapidValueRapidValue
Digital transformation based on cloud-first strategy is a marathon. Any transformation journey which is disruptive and requires changing the core foundation of the organization can be very challenging. It is bound to fail unless the journey is planned with specific goals in mind, right roles and resources allocated to it, ‘as-is’ to ‘to-be state’ is mapped and implementation engine is fine-tuned.
Based on the experience of implementing numerous transformation projects for our global clients, RapidValue has formulated a BRAVE framework for cloud-first digital transformation.
If there is any trend that has created such a buzz in recent times, it has got be cloud computing. But does this mean that you should provide your software-plus-service from the cloud? Or should you tread with caution and wait for the market to stabilize? This paper attempts to provide Sanity-as-a-Service to ISV’s, Software-enabledbusinesses and Enterprises on cloud-enabling their software.
Cloud computing technology has been a new buzzword in the IT industry and expecting a new horizon for coming world. It is a style of computing which is having dynamically scalable virtualized resources provided as a service over the Internet.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

13. Rehost
Redeployment of the application to a different hardware environment
(VM and OS) and changing the application's infrastructure configuration
(e.g., moving J2EE apps to EC2 Linux instances from AWS).
Can work with systems where code modifications are impossible (e.g.,
COTS, code that cannot be rebuilt).
Replace
Replace an existing application by SaaS and migrate data to the SaaS
environment (e.g., adopting Google Apps for communication and
collaboration, Salesforce SalesCloud for SFA, WorkDay for HR process,
Coupa for spending management).
Users access SaaS via a user-centric interface, such as a Web browser or a
mobile device.
13
14. Refactor
Running your applications (usually Web applications) on the cloud
provider’s cloud-enabling frameworks and management tools (e.g.,
Accenture helping eBay move Java apps for iPad Marketplace to Azure
platform).
Necessary changes vary from none to widespread code changes to invoke
new APIs.
Rebuild
Rebuild your solution on a provider's application platform while discarding
code for an existing application (e.g., Hitachi Solutions helping Japan Post
rebuild customer-facing apps on Force.com platform).
Developer productivity is improved with tools that allow application
templates and data models to be customized, metadata-driven engines,
and communities that supply prebuilt components.
14
15. Revise
Modifying the existing codebase to support legacy modernization
requirements, then use rehost or refactor options to deploy to the cloud
(e.g., COSCO in China redesigning mission-critical apps into service-
oriented architecture and then deploying on its private cloud).

incorporating new technologies such as digital media, e-learning and

In this adaptation to the era of digital media, HBP had to fundamentally
redesign business processes and convert contents for online search.

HBP decided to move to a hybrid cloud with Amazon Web Services and
VMWare virtualization software.

the transition to cloud some apps needed code changes. HBP put legacy
apps or “technical debt” on a path to extinction.
