AWS Cloud Center Excellence Quick Start Prescriptive GuidanceTom Laszewski
This presentation is a practical playbook for defining, establishing, and implementing a Cloud Enablement Engine (CEE). It collates and summarizes the lessons learned and anti-patterns gathered from the CEE journeys successfully navigated at Amazon and other large enterprise companies. A lot has been written about the need to establish a CEE, the benefits of moving to a productization mindset, and the business value of tribes, guilds, and two-pizza teams. However, larger organizations are still struggling with a CEE 30-60-90 day plan, and the essential components of the CEE during its first six months in existence.
The prescriptive guidance in this presentation provides pragmatic and tactical advice for establishing a Cloud Enablement Engine (CEE) – also referred to as a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) or Cloud Enablement Team. This presentation serves as a step-by-step guide for the initial setup activities, and the top ten best practices that have been extrapolated from working across a large number of customers. What not to do is as important as what to do. Therefore, the top ten anti-patterns are discussed.
A key focus of the CEE is transforming the IT organization from an on-premise operating model to a Cloud Operating Model (COM). The transformation to COM and the charter of a CEE are highly correlated and interconnected. During the nascent stage of the CEE, the focus of the CEE will be on the infrastructure components of a COM. This includes the operations, security & control, platform architecture & governance, and infrastructure provisioning & configuration management functions. AWS understands that enterprise (on-premises) operating models are based on ITIL. Therefore, the cloud transformation from an on-premises operating model to a COM will include mapping ITIL to a cloud, agile, and DevOps based capabilities and processes. Fortunately, ITIL 4.0 embraces DevOps, cloud, and agile.
Cloud adoption requires that fundamental changes are considered across the entire organization, and that stakeholders across all organizational units are engaged in these changes. This session will introduce participants to the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF) to help organizations take an accelerated path to successful cloud adoption. Participants will be exposed to consideration, guidance, and best practices that can be used to help their organizations develop an efficient and effective plan to realize measurable business benefits from cloud adoption faster and with less risk.
The AWS Private Equity organization utilizes the Recognized Cloud Transformation Leader (RCTL) program and Transformation Advisor role to enable portfolio company executives to successfully execute a cloud or digital transformation - accelerate migrations/modernization, remove transformation impediments and mitigate risk.
AWS PE Transformation Advisor program overview
Assigns a dedicated PE Transformation Advisor to the executive cloud sponsor (CxO or similar) for an 8-to-12-week engagement that can be further extended as needed. The PE Transformation Advisor aids the executive in value creation by removing transformation blockers, securing buy-in from the executive team, influencing the board, adapting business processes in support of cloud, and preparing the broader organization for the digital transformation.
During the engagement, the PE Transformation Advisor provides prescriptive guidance to define the transformation tenets and guiding principles, assist developing the business case, produce the cloud journey map, establish the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), document KPIs, identify partners, and define the Cloud Operating Model (COM).

Cloud Migration Key Points to Consider.pdfniahiggins21
Deciding to migrate your business the cloud drastically alters how you conduct business operations. This major move requires careful strategic planning and consideration. While potential benefits exist, wrong decisions bring unwanted costs. Cloud migration impacts economics, operations, security, and more.
Having answers to these strategic questions allows informed planning to fully leverage cloud promise while managing very real challenges. Deciding requires thoughtful deliberation as this is no minor choice. In this guide, we are going to discuss the key elements that are crucial for a successful cloud migration.
Mindtree provides cloud migration services for faster, cost-effective & successful cloud transition with zero business impact. Click here to get more information on cloud migration services.
Enterprise data centres have traditionally used servers and storage that typically scale only to a few nodes. Even small capacity or performance scales required large installation increments or worse, required replicating the existing IT infrastructure, which is prohibitive in terms of cost and space. An important impediment was that as storage capacity increased, system performance and efficiency suffered. In addition, IT budgets came under pressure and created high entry barriers to scale for enterprise class data centres. However, virtualization and cloud platforms are changing that. IT departments can now linearly scale to several server and storage nodes rapidly, for capacity and performance without compromising on efficiency and to keep costs under control. This helps save space via hardware consolidation, improves productivity, and derives a competitive advantage through increased availability, lean administration, and fast deployment times.

Modernizing Mainframe Applications For The Cloud Environment.pdfPetaBytz Technologies
Every organization with a mainframe should contemplate mainframe modernization if it wants to stay afloat in the rapidly evolving business landscape ruled by technology. New technologies should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis rather than being assumed to be the best solutions by default simply because they are unique. In addition, the modernization process must follow the development of the business so that technology works for you rather than against you.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
1. Business benefits of Cloud Computing for Banking
Areas Benefits
Quick launch of banking, insurance
and financial products
Cloud computing allows quick & easy provisioning of IT environments for rolling new business functionalities,
products & services to maintain competitive advantage. Cloud computing helps to accelerate global payment
processing, KYC, Anti-money Laundering initiatives, card processes etc.
Ability to cope with growth,
seasonal peaks or even
divestments/spin-offs.
The cloud system is designed to cope with sharp increases as well as decreases in workload. This increases
the speed of response, reduces risks and operational costs. Moreover Banks only pay for what they
use/consume.
Increased collaboration, higher
productivity
Cloud services enable and increase productivity with real-time business collaboration. Banks and their
employees are able to collaborate on shared documents and retrieve critical business information from
anywhere, anytime and on any device.
Regulatory, Compliance and Market
Changes
Fast provisioning of the future platforms on Cloud provides the ability to begin the early development
and deployment of new capability to cope with market, regulatory, compliance, economic & political
changes.
Access to latest security features Cloud providers have industrialised approach when it comes to enhancing, updating/upgrading security
features, data loss prevention measures, user authentication, fraud protection, Cyber Attacks etc.
Lower Costs Allow re-purposing of the HW to run non-production environments at different times to achieve higher SID to
HW ratio.
Greener IT, Reduced Carbon
Footprint. Better Corporate Social
responsibility rating.
Cloud computing has helped organisations become greener by reducing the overall footprint of DCs and
associated energy consumption
Banks are already widely using cloud computing for non-core and non-critical uses, such as human resources, e-mail, customer analytics, customer
relationship management, and development and testing (88% of surveyed EU-based financial institutions were already using cloud based services by
June 2015).
2. Benefits of moving to Cloud
Consolidate Applications & Infra Landscape with in-built technology refresh, monitoring tools, OS, Database Management, Middleware and other
ongoing support services.
Raise average utilisation of underlying infrastructure to at least 90% in terms of SAPS and Storage utilized.
Reduce DC footprint and associated power, cooling and space by 60% thereby lowering associated Carbon footprint and provisioning Greener IT
Allow re-purposing of the HW to run any non-production environments at different times to achieve higher SID to HW ratio.
Facilitate quick (on-demand) provisioning of temporary environments for short durations (say days to months) and quick turning-off
(decommissioning) of unwanted environments.
Provide full flexibility of ramping-up and ramping-down in-line with business workloads with continuous capacity and service level management.
Facilitate consumption-based billing based on actual usage/consumption on set time-frame as opposed to 'installed/unused' model.
Provide priority access to Demos, PoVs (Point-of-Views), PoCs, PROVIDER’s Consulting, PROVIDER and PROVIDER’s Co-Innovation Lab.
Ensures you as a customer are not locked into a particular Vendor; whereby Customer can terminate the contract without any liabilities/
liquidated damages by serving an advance notice of 6 months.
Reduce business downtime during migration phase(s) as well as operational maintenance after Go-Live by leveraging NZDT (Near Zero Downtime)
Maintenance approach.
3. Application Transformation To Cloud (AT2C)
Business case driven approach; application analysis will inform a financial analysis to
ensure that the timing and nature of workload migration contribute to the TCO
reduction goal
Application driven approach; analysis of the application workload will be performed to
both minimise the risk of business impact and ensure that the correct target platform
is selected
A quick win opportunity – fast provisioning of the future platforms provides the ability
to begin the early development and deployment of new capability
Workload migration – where desirable existing workload running in a virtualised
environment can be assimilated to run under CSA (Cloud System Automation)
providing a low impact route to improved visibility and control of the VM’s running
within the environment

8. PROVIDER will identify transformation/ journey treatments required to migrate the applications and application groupings to their future state infrastructure.
The above activities will be performed prior to May 21st. The following activities will take place post May 21st and will also consist of an increase in scope to include all locations (MDC’s and regional DC’s. Timescales for this work will be defined post May 21st.
7 possible treatments
1. Re-learn: A discovery process that captures the intellectual property investment that has been made in legacy applications over many years and enables that investment
to be preserved and carried forward through modernisation.
2. Re-factor Code optimisation to improve the run-time efficiency of an application. In the context of transformation to cloud ,make code changes to take advantage of the
cloud platform without changing the application business logic or programming language.
3. Re-host
Midrange
There are two types of re-host for midrange environments: Re-host binary and Server-to-Server (S2S) migration):
Re-host (Binary): Migration of applications to lower cost modern platforms without significantly changing the business features and functions. In the context of
transformation to cloud, this involves a lift and shift the current application to the target platform without any code changes. Re-host Binary is not performed
by AT2C.
Re-host: Server-to-Server (S2S): This modernization strategy focuses cases where target environment and servers are not 100% compatible and application
changes are necessary. Migrations typically run on a set of standardised platforms and technologies. S2S is a capability that can be offered as part of the AT2C
re-host area or as a stand-alone engagement.
4. Re-
architect
Forward engineering applications to Java J2EE or Windows .NET Agile Application Architecture to enable true enterprise agility. May consist of business rule
analysis followed by recoding the application, changing the business logic and function including use of automated language conversion tooling to translate to
JAVA or /NET.
5. Re-
interface
Re-interface applications by creating new interfaces to leverage and extend the application features and value. In the context of transformation to cloud
,service-enable applications, create web services and web interfaces to be consumed as part of the application integration architecture and consumption of the
application in the cloud.
6. Replace Provides a framework to replace existing legacy applications with standard enterprise applications, industry standard applications, or newly developed
applications. In the context of transformation to cloud ,it will consist of replacing an existing application by a SaaS offering
7. Retire Decommission legacy applications from the applications portfolio. We assess the linkage of applications to be retired and then systematically manage the
shutdown of applications so that the business is not interrupted.
As part of the assessment process we will identify which treatments are the most appropriate with the customer. The criteria developed with customer to date
has already identified the initial Retire applications and some of the Replace candidates.
Treatments for Applications transformation to the
cloud (AT2C)
9. The objective of S2S
Application transformation is to
migrate and adapt application
from a current environment to a
modern target Environment &
Architecture (Cloud) without
any functional and/or technical
changes to applications
The migration implies,
remediation, update, upgrade
and any other actions to make
the applications compatible with
their target environments.
Also use Application Modernisation Services to leverage core business IP contained in legacy applications & data

10. A transformation technique for legacy servers
Industrialized midrange server application rehost
Server-to-Server (S2S) Application Transformation
An S2S engagement is “as-is” (no functional changes) transformation engagement that is aimed to provide an industrialized
approach to transformation of a large application portfolio from one platform to another, typically Next Generation Data Center
or Cloud.
S2S Application Transformation is an end-to-end solution for mid-range servers, which combines the
expertise of data engineering, applications and infrastructure. With a thorough identification and
assessment of a client’s current environment, applications are modified suitably so they can be moved
from one server type to another, especially target cloud platforms

Key Factors:
18. Definition of Migration vs. AMoD
phases
Adapt Evolve
Move and adapt the current environment to a modern target
structure & Architecture without any functional and/or technical
changes to applications.
It only includes any update, upgrade and action to make the
applications compatible with their target environment
The evolve phase concerns all modernisation activities to apply
to the applications to improve its flexibility, elasticity, business
value, cloud adoption, etc...
It usually implies functional and/or technical changes
Unless absolute necessity and only for very minor actions no functional and technical changes should be applied to the application during
the adopt mode
If it is required it should be part of the Evolve mode

22. Note: An application is anything with logic in it, which could very well be a DataBase with built in logic
Adapt - Waves approach
•
• Cluster:
• Should remain small enough to limit complexity and risk
• Must be technologically and functionally logically grouped
• May just affect one Business Service and/or one Application but could also affect more than one
• Ideally focus to address business service one after the other
Waves Set of Clusters or a cluster of objects
Business Service mapping
A cluster of objects can be a subset of an application, an entire application, a DB or a group of
DBs, set of services or anything that forms a logical minimum entity to group
It includes all its Production and Pre-Production instances
It is defined according to Business services and Application classification mapping, and/or cross
functionality
Map object family against a or few
business services
Application classification
Classify application according to
Technology, Criticality, Complexity & risk
The move/adopt of all applications to the target environment is done through a series of waves

• To optimise migration process & resources efficiency, the Wave should address the same technological migration strategy: e.g: migrate from RedHat 5.8 and
Oracle 11.2 to RedHat 6.4 and Oracle 11.2 or Win2003 to Win2012
2. Business Services
• Focus on a specific Business Service, although clusters will likely affect other BS
3. Cluster classification
• All Clusters within the same wave should preferably contain object (Application, DB, Services,…) of similar profile : e.g. Oracle DB
34. Adapt - Wave Strategy
• The Wave execution approach is to start with a simple wave to prove &
validate the adapt process, a next wave to get the entire process into gear,
then proceed with the remaining asset
• Wave0:
• Proving wave to test, validate and improve the Adopt migration process
• Unlike other waves, group clusters of different profile to test different migration factory processes
• Wave1
• Focuses on business service and similar current technological profile (RedHat 5.8/6.4 & Oracle 11.2)
• Wave will Execute standalone
• Being in early process phase it will take longer as it gets the entire practice into gear
• Other Waves
• Waves will execute both in parallel and sequentially

S2S application transformation is an end-to-end solution for mid-range servers, which combines the expertise of data engineering, applications and infrastructure. With a thorough identification and assessment of a client’s current environment, applications are modified suitably so they can be moved from one server type to another, including target cloud platforms.
unique Server-to-Server solution is implemented through an industrialized model to cover all aspects from existing hardware and application complexity to infrastructure and the right resources. The customer doesn’t need to work with multiple third party entities as provider has the ability to quickly assemble teams to complete required activities.
An S2S engagement is an applications “as is” (no functional change) transformation engagement that is aimed to transform a large application portfolio from one platform to another, typically to Next Generation Data Center or Cloud target platforms.
It is expected that the in-scope applications being considered for a S2S transformation have common existing technologies and platforms. This type of common environment can benefit significantly from Server-to-Server’s industrialized approach.
With Server-2-Server transformation services, customers can achieve the agility they need to tackle some of the other issues it is faced with. More on this topic will be covered in the second section of this training course.
IT organizations must transform themselves from being a builder of custom IT services to being an internal service provider. This means they need to source some IT services externally, build IT services where they offer competitive differentiation, and provide a single portal where their internal customers can access all the IT services.
Here you see the primary reasons why an IT organization should become an internal service provider.
Most applications today are what we call “classic” IT applications. These are applications that have been deployed over the last 5-10 years. These “classic” applications are typically multi-tier web applications comprised of a web tier, middleware, applications and databases. Today, many new applications are being developed as cloud native applications, applications designed specifically for deployment in the cloud. These applications are inherently highly scalable, resilient, distributed and API-based.
With classic applications, IT had one choice of deployment platform, typically within a company data center. With the advent of cloud computing, IT organizations have multiple choices of platforms, private cloud, managed private cloud, managed virtual private cloud, public cloud and classic IT. Cloud native applications can be deployed on multiple platforms and can be moved from one platform to another. IT must now determine the best platform for each application. Here are the key factors that are used to determine the best platform for each application.
Security
Availability
Compliance
Data Sovereignty

To manage multiple platforms, its important to have a common foundation that allows applications to be moved from one platform to another. And to simplify management, there should be centralized management across all the platforms.
