Cathedral Theme
I read the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver. This story describes the first time meeting
between a blind man and a sighted man. Robert, who is blind, is visiting for a few days with his long
time friend who is the wife and her husband is only referred to as Bub. The wife and Bub are both
sighted.
When the wife ended her employment with Robert over ten years ago, Robert asked if he could touch
her face before she left. Robert and the wife stayed in touch even after she left her old job by
communicating with audio tape over the past ten years. The wife has just picked up Robert at the train
station and brought him to her home. Bub, the husband has never met ... Show more content on

A Cathedral is a place for people to go and worship, to connect with God. By drawing the Cathedral
the narrator is in some ways also making a connection. For the first time he appears to be able to see.
There is also a sense of irony at the end of the story. The narrator s eyes are closed and he is being led
by a blind man, yet he is able to see. Carver never explains what it is the narrator sees, but there is the
sense that he has found a connection and is no longer detached or isolated.
Raymond Carvers choice of theme of blindness makes his goal of offering a deeper understanding of
the nature of human a success. He is able to tell readers that there is physical blindness and
psychological blindness. Those with the physical disability could see well than those who are not. This
motif is accentuated by these examples from the story the first is the demeanor of Bub which shows
signs of disapproval of the imminent visit of his wife s blind friend, the second is his contemplating
the basis of his wife s friendship with Robert, and the third is his verbal and sensory interaction with
the blind man when he draws a cathedral on a paper

Renewable Energy In America
Fuel price seems to be the subject that always makes headlines on a regular basis. The United States is
the biggest consumer of energy in the world. Lucas Davis, a Berkeley Professor conducted a study in
2013 on global oil consumption and found that the average American consumes more than 300 gallons
of gasoline annually. The amount is at least 200 gallons more than other developed countries such as
Germany, and France. (Davis, 2013) The high consumption forces Americans to rely on foreign fuel
sources since domestic energy is simply not enough to satisfy the thirst. Rising fuel price coupled with
fuel shortage scare are often a common concern for every American, thus there needs to be an
invention to stretch the supply in case of disaster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethanol did not become such a staple addition to gasoline until the 1970s due to fuel shortage scare.
Its use became even more prevalent in the early 2000s with the increase in global warming awareness.
The Renewable Fuels Association reports that the United States alone produced over 15 billion gallons
of ethanol, a 14 billion gallons increase from its production in 1999 (Industry Statistics, 2017). While
ethanol is a clean energy when use, however, its production is not quite as clean clean as it appears to
be. Ethanol is considered renewable since the heartland of the United States grows so much corn
annually to supply the plant. The corn growing process is quite damaging to the environment. Farming
equipment runs on diesel fuel, which directly contributes to the greenhouse gas production. The use of
fertilizer and insect repellent chemical is harmful to soil and atmosphere. The transportation of crops
relies heavily on semi tractors that still heavily rely on fossil fuel, thus exacerbate the problem. Not to
mention that ethanol plants require electricity primarily generated by coal fired power plants since it is
much more efficient and a lot cheaper. All these factors contribute to the global warming problem, the
very problem that ethanol is supposed to

House Of Sand And Fog Character Analysis
There are two kinds of people in the world, some who think they are unrivaled, and others who think
they are overpowered. The difference between these two individuals is appearance. One thinks the
appearance they put forth is of prestige, while another thinks their appearance is of unworthiness.
Similarly, in the novel House of Sand and Fog, the characters face internal conflict where they want to
have a certain appearance, yet cannot fully achieve it. After recently separating from her husband and
getting rid of her Alcohol addiction, Kathy is trying her best to return back to normalcy with only the
inherited house she has left. However, after being evicted out of the house for false charges, Kathy
becomes even more lonely and and cogitates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nick, Kathy s ex husband unusually left her one day when he decided that he could not handle their
life together anymore. Kathy, who still thinks about why Nick left her often wonders how life would
be different if they were not separated. After getting evicted out of her humble abode, Kathy ponders,
My husband got to miss all this, that s what I kept thinking that he didn t have to be around for any of
this, and I was stuck at the El Rancho motel in San Bruno (Dubus, 34). These thoughts evidently
display that Kathy has still not moven away from her past, as the first person she thinks about right
after being evicted is her ex husband. Nonetheless, when she meets Lester Burdon, she instantly feels
an attraction towards him and feels that life has finally changed. However, their affair is short lived, as
Kathy feels that Lester does not want to fully divorce his wife, and so she tries to let go of him for his
own good. In one particular incident, Kathy is reminded of Lester by the gun he mistakenly left in the
car; In one fluid motion, I put the gas can in and pulled the coiled leather snake out, kept it under my
arm as I unlocked my door, rested it on the seat beside me me, what Lester left behind before we went
into the truck stop bar for our last dance, his sheriffness, his sword, like a gift he d willed me, a piece
of him to carry and remember him by (206). Through Lester s last remaining piece, his gun, Kathy
believes it is a significant reminder for her to stop running to him and take a step back. Although she is
trying to forget about him, it does not last for long as many things remind Kathy of Lester. Throughout
the novel Kathy is desolate and pensive, but not in a positive way. She tries to run away from her
negligent past by wasting away her present, which leads to many other mournful

Globalization
Globalization is actually an ongoing process of interconnectedness between nations, multinational
corporations (MNCs), international non governmental organizations (INGOs), and individuals.
Globalization has led to a growing gap between those who have access and opportunities by which to
thrive and those who do not. There are now 793 billionaires (as of 2009) representing an essentially
unimaginable amount of wealth. At the same time, there are millions of workers laboring in conditions
we would likely consider inhumane, and doing so for starvation level wages. And still, there are those
who do not even have access to jobs whose conditions are even worse. Globalization can benefit some
but leaves other nation further and further behind.
Inequalities
It can be argued that the trend for global inequality is that The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.
This can be seen in two graphs, the first shows that the high income nations have risen dramatically
compared to the middle and low income nation which only increasing slightly over the years. This
shows that the growth of population in low income countries is much higher that than the high income
countries therefore the widening gap even more.
Most people believe that slavery is on

Spectroscopy Of Triclosan Lab
Part One: Spectroscopy of Triclosan
Experimental:
To determine the Concentration of triclosan in an antibacterial hand soap in experiment C, a collection
of stock solutions were made. The solutions included sodium nitrate, 4 sulfanilic acid, sodium
hydroxide, triclosan, and a glycine buffer. An antibacterial soap sample made from 0.4382 g of the
green Dial soap and was placed into a 50 ml beaker. Approximately 20 ml of 0.01 M sodium
hydroxide solution was added. The mixture was placed in a sonic bath for 5 minutes and then
transferred to a 50 ml volumetric flask. An additional 10 ml of the sodium hydroxide solution was
added and the flask was filled to the line with .01 M sodium hydroxide. This is the test sample. A
control was made using only deionized water. A series of triclosan dilutions were prepared from the
original stock solution. The stock was mixed to have varying concentrations of triclosan: 10 mg/L, 20
mg/L, 30 mg/L, and 40 mg/L. This was done using a variety of volumetric ... Show more content on

This knowledge is important when developing future experiments using triclosan. To begin
experiment G, the same process described earlier was used to create a solution of Triclosan. A sample
of 0.0225g of triclosan was used in this solution along with 0.5 ml of 50% NaOH. The mixture is
diluted with distilled water and ready to be tested. The pH of this solution was then measured using a
pH meter and put into the spectrometer to get a spectra of the solution. The triclosan sample is then
mixed with different amounts of NaOH and HCl to change the pH. Eleven samples were made at pH
levels ranging from twelve to two. At each pH, a sample is taken and put into a calibrated
spectrometer to measure absorbance. A spectra is made for each pH and combined using Excel to
generate a spectrum overlay. Lastly the lab is properly cleaned, and all equipment put

I Am At Manzanar Internment Camp
Barbed wired barracks, portable potties, and partition less showers. My grandfather reminisces his
time spend at Manzanar Internment Camp. While my grandfather stood in the giant shadow of a 30
foot armed tower, 500 acres of Californian dessert enclosed nearly 12,000 Japanese Americans. In
1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the removal and
detainment of anyone in military territory. When armed police went door to door rounding up
Japanese Americans and ordering them straight to the camps as my grandfather asserted, America s
national fear was exploited. My grandfather at the age of sixteen, lost his home, his family, and
notably continued to face several obstacles postwar. Thousands of Japanese Americans during the
1940 s, including Ichiro in John Okada s No No Boy, have had their lives reshaped by new territories,
boundaries and inner conflicts. The lost of family and friends was prevalent as racial prejudices
intensified throughout the nation. While thousands of innocent families were victimized in the
Japanese interment camps and imprisonments during WWII, the overwhelming distress led to corrupt
relationships and inner turmoil. After abandoning everything in our home, everything my parents had
worked for, I was met by assault rifles, searchlights and quarters too small for the amount of people it
accommodated my grandfather assured. The property, belongings, jobs and businesses were all left

day, but now he was running from an army of crazed robots. He could smell the smoke coming from
behind him, all the buildings getting burnt. Tony, his friend, had also gotten into this trouble, but he
was fast and was well ahead of him. He was slowing down, and he could hear the robo s heavy
machinery behind him. Jack its 12 minutes to 8!! Get up lazy pig! said his sister, Stacie. Shut up, I was
going to get up, replied jack as he sauntered out his door. His dad had passed out last year dude to a
car accident, and his mom was working in another city. So the only close family member he had was
his sister, who was 21 years old, 7 years older than him. He crawled out of his bed, put on some
clothes, grabbed his bag, and trudged out the door. Jack had not been eating breakfast for a long time,
so he was used to it. He heard his teachers say that not eating breakfast was bad for him, and he should
eat breakfast, which could help him do better at school and on tests. As he walked down the street to
the bus stop, he met Tony, who lived across the street from him. They got on the bus together and
started talking about last night s football game, and how the Patriots beat the Ravens. On the way to

Negative Effects Of Overfishing
Many people tend to not realize what goes on with the everyday life with oceans. Not just what occurs
in the oceans, but what humans are doing to the oceans. One of the multiple negative impacts that
humans have to the oceans include overfishing. Everyday, fish are caught by the hundreds because of
humans, which plays a major impact on marine life. As the the days, months, and years go by, marine
life within the oceans becomes less healthy due to overfishing by humans. Overfishing has been
occurring for decades and if it continues to happen at such a great rate, fish in the ocean will become
endangered or even extinct. Close to 90 percent of the world s marine fish stocks are now fully
exploited, overexploited or depleted ( Time is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without fish being a choice of food, more demand will be needed for different types of food and will
cause an impact. One of the many marine life animals that gets overfished today are sharks. If sharks
keep getting overfished, the entire marine food chain will become greatly affected. Humans
continuously eliminate sharks, which are the leading predators of the oceans, at a such fast rate and
will cause a trophic cascade. A trophic cascade is when the top predators in any system are being
eliminating. Due to the fact that sharks are being killed constantly, its prey are growing rapidly in
population and offsetting marine life (Irish Times). Sharks are very important within the ocean and are
a big part of the ecosystem. Without them, the ecosystem would become very unbalanced which will
happen if overfishing the sharks continues. Not only are sharks being overfished, but scallops and
other shellfish are too. The result of this leads to water quality suffering (Irish Times). With bad water
quality, it makes it harder for all types of marine life to live their day to day life at full potential health.
With humans constantly overfishing, it leads to fish being either threatened, endangered, or even
extinct. Certain species are actually rare now due to overfishing (Hanson Harding). The fish are not
getting the proper amount of time that they need in order to grow and have babies before they get
caught. Not only are that certain kind of

Cross Cultural Communication Important For Businesses
In this report, I will justify, why is cross cultural communication important for businesses in the 21st
century. Cross cultural communication is a very important factor for businesses in these days because
of the rapid economic development hence globalisation.
Therefore, knowledge and understanding of a cultural diversity are a must especially for businesses
operated worldwide to correctly react to body language, symbols, gestures or situations that can be
easily misunderstood due to cultural differences and can lead to the unsuccessful transactions,
contracts or a business as a whole, for example, Americans or British use the gesture thumb up to
express that everything going well, while in Bangladesh it means rude or awful. Living or doing a
business in different country does not only mean knowing their food, music or clothing, but mainly to
understand their beliefs and values, as these are usually hidden deeply beneath the surface, even
though we may find some habits or beliefs in the different country s culture to be same or very similar
to ours.
In my opinion, it is very difficult to talk about cultural differences without making statements or
likelihood, hence generalisations, which can help to describe how people from one culture usually
behave and react in a particular situation. However, even though generalisation can help to learn and
understand different cultures around the world, it can lead to a negative stereotyping,
miscommunication and conflicts.

Tort And Business Law Essay
Law of Tort and Business Contracts Introduction According to law, tort occurs when a person fails to
observe duty imposed on one by law, to ensure there is no injury to a determinate person. In most
cases, the remedies for a tort are in the form of unliquidated damages for instance different amounts of
compensation, which are determined by the courts of law. The law seeks to compensate the aggrieved
party, unlike the criminal cases where the offenders are punished according to law. However, certain
cases in tort fall both in the civil and criminal law brackets. Examples include assault and battery. The
tort of negligence is addressed in this article, because of its influence compared to the other torts of
law. The liability attracted by negligence comes from a basis of duty to practice reasonable care
(Geistfeld, 2011, pg 144). First case analysis: Rare Plants Limited In the first scenario of the case, an
elderly/disabled member of a coach party slips on a pathway and breaks a leg. After the accident, the

the home care is liable to ensure the residents are safe when on the premises. Knowing the premise
users are elderly and disabled, the owner will be liable when it is foreseen or contemplated that the

Media Bias Analysis
Introduction: During this week I investigated many different news sources and different tactics they
use. My research has shown the incredibly strong bias that the media has. To get a full grasp of the
biases I had to use source diversity. My sources ranged from social media, to television, to web based
articles. Through my research, I discovered the effective and prevalent uses of loaded language, social
media, sensationalism, bias in quotes, and the role of gatekeepers in media. Example 1: Fox News had
a segment on President Donald Trump s milestones in office. Fox News is known for having a
Republican bias, and its bias was very prevalent in the use of loaded language. The Angle had an
infographic saying that Trump accomplished a soaring economy and deported violent criminal aliens .

Trump s personal agenda against the media. Additionally, Trump exposes the strength of the media s

both sensationalism and showed bias in how the media refers to people they quote. In the headline for

Investigating The Process Of Game Developers Use For Make...
For Research Project I have chosen to investigate the process that game developers use to make a
video game. Games have been around since 1951 when the first game Pong was invented, which took
to an international stage (Pong Story, 2013). Since then technology has evolved, which has allowed
game designers to make more sophisticated and technical games, which gives the players a more
realistic experience. What kind of software are used to make game? After designing the game s
concept, as well as the characters and environments; the next step is to make it digital , (Tim Crosby,
2008). There are many software packages available for beginners to experienced designers. Depending
on how skilled a designer is; they are able to get software packages that range from drag and drop
functions to, software that will need coding skills to make the game. Most software packages come
with tools to make two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) games. Software that you can
use to make a 2D game. Software that can be used to make a 2D, which is recommended, by both my
secondary and primary source is Game Maker. Game Maker has many of the tools that a game
designer would need, all in the one software. It allows you design many different types of games and
has in built game engine. It also supports game development for multiple platforms including
Windows, Mac, Android, IOS, Windows Phone, HTML5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (YoYo Games,

Essay on Women Authors of the 19th Century
Women Authors of the 19th Century
Some of the most influential women authors of all time lived in the 19th century. These women
expressed their inner most thoughts and ideas through their writings. They helped to change society,
perhaps without knowing it, through poetry, novels, and articles. Emily Dickinson, Harriet Jacobs,
Kate Chopin, Louisa May Alcott, and Elizabeth Oakes Smith are the best known controversial and
expressive women authors of their time.
On December 10, 1830 a poet was born. When Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts,

Dickinson s poems are timeless and will always leave one bewildered and amazed. Harriet Jacobs was
born in North Carolina in the early 1800s. Jacobs never realized she was a slave until her mother died
when she was six. Jacobs then moved in with her grandmother and her white mistress. The mistress
died when Jacobs was eleven, and she was then sent to Dr. James Norcom. Jacobs suffered physical
and sexual abuse from Dr. Norcom for numerous years, and she became involved with a white
neighbor, Samuel Sawyer, simply so she could stay away from Norcom. They had two children
together, Joseph and Louisa. Joseph was born when Jacobs was only sixteen years old.
In 1835, Jacobs escaped from Norcom and went into hiding for seven years. In an attempt to get
Norcom to sell her children, Jacobs wrote numerous letters to him, mentioning that she had escaped to
the North. She thought Norcom would sell her children if he thought she wasn t coming back, but that
never happened. In 1842, Jacobs made her escape to the North and managed to have her daughter,
Louisa, sent to Brooklyn to be with her. They then moved to Rochester to escape Norcom, who was

Master Harold And The Boys Character Analysis
In Master Harold and the Boys, Hally s crippled father never appears on stage, instead, the closest
thing to him talking is through the telephone conversations. However, Hally s father still has a huge
impact on the play as his roles in the play include creating tension through the phone conversations
and his relationship with his son also brings about the bond between Hally and the servants. In
addition, he symbolizes the conflict of apartheid in South Africa back then.
One of Hally s father s role in the play is acting as a dramatic device. His telephone conversations
with Hally alters the mood and creates tension in the play. Before the telephone conversation
regarding his dad, the mood of nostalgia was in the air as Hally and Sam recalled the kite flying
memory. However, after Hally has a frustrating phone call regarding his father, the mood immediately
changes with Hally saying, (seething with irritation and frustration) Tell me something I don t know,
Sam. What the hell do you think I was saying to my Mom? (P.34) This quote is where Hally takes out
his anger and irritation by snapping at Sam, and in doing so, creating tension between the characters.

Swot Analysis Of HUL
1. Soaps and Detergents This segment main driving factor for the revenues of HUL as it contributes
approximately 49 percent of the total revenues. HUL s brands like Lifebuoy, Lux, Liril, Rexona,
Wheel, Surf Excel, Surf, Vim etc. in soaps and detergent have helped the company to dominate the
market and gain a significant position. The major growth drivers in this segment are sales volume and
price of the products. With the collaborative initiatives like Swachh aadat, we expect a rise in
consumption of soaps and detergents segment in rural as well as urban sector. Therefore, we expect
the soaps and detergent market to grow at 18 percent as penetration in rural market is a slow

Negative Effects Of Photoshop On Society
Seerat Gidda Professor Michelle Superle English 105 November 20, 2017 Effects of Photoshop on
Society Research Essay Draft 3 No one can make you feel inferior without your consent, once said by
the famous Eleanor Roosevelt. As true as that may be, the advances of technology in the modern era
make that difficult. Photoshop, an image editing software that allows you to alter images limitlessly, is
one of the biggest dilemmas facing society today. Photoshop has the power to manipulate an image s
appearance beyond recognition, making it possible to transform an average looking individual into a
Barbie girl, in a Barbie world ( Brown 87). This act of photo manipulation didn t begin with Adobe
Photoshop, a photoshop software that has been accused of sabotaging the truthfulness of photographs,
but rather it began long before in the 1800s when techniques like hand colouring and retouching were
done physically by the photographer s hands instead of a computer s (Fineman dust jacket). The use of
photoshop, or the act of photo manipulation, has a negative impact on society. It causes self esteem
issues and possibly even eating and mental disorders due to the viewers being falsely directed by
flawless images that distort reality. In recent discussions of modern photography, a controversial issue
has been whether photo manipulation is ethical. On one hand some argue that photoshop has enhanced
and expanded photography exponentially as an art form making the possibilities

The Effects Of Torture On The Society Of Modern Technology
When one thinks of torture, what is imagined? Perhaps they think of those wooden machines in the
museums that they cannot even comprehend the use for, or the iron maiden, a cinematic favorite.
Perhaps they don t think of anything specific like that at all, for it isn t a question often presented.
Torture, regardless, is a gruesome term with gruesome connotations. In our progressive society of
modern technology, it is thankfully an issue of the past. Or... is it? It s not, we know it isn t. As a
society of the unaffected, we simply don t think about it. We are vaguely aware of the fact that torture
once occurred in prevalence at some point in time and happens somewhere today. It did happen, and it
still does. Torture is deliberate violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Maccabees 13:5 where Menelaus had been thrown into ashes to struggle and suffocate as he sank

what or why, as long as it classifies as torture. The words are occasionally interchangeable, as every
case of lawful torture is a punishment but not every punishment is necessarily torture. Historically,
judicial torture has been used for ages, albeit differing in how it is carried out today. Torture for the
purpose of criminal punishment first emerged in the twelfth century in Northern Italy when
prosecution done privately by popes and royalty on criminals became prevalent and under threat when
their political authority became more centralized. During the remaining years of the Middle Ages, the
process spread to much of Europe (Encyclopedia.com). In the late twelfth century, the inquisitional
procedure was introduced to papal legislation with the purpose of controlling those who strayed from
the church, and eventually, this eventually extended to secular (nonreligious) crime as well. Early
medieval law had more severe criminal cases dealt with by ordeal, oath, or judicial combat. The idea
of it was that God would intervene constantly in the lives of people, and would so also in court.

Economic Growth And Economic Development
Economic growth refers to an increase in the capacity for an economy to produce goods and services
as compared from one period of time to another. It can be measured either in nominal terms which
include inflation, or in real terms that are adjusted for inflation. It is mainly influenced by
unemployment, inflation, technology levels, rate of investment, population growth rate, among other
factors. These factors are used further to explain the differences in the varying level of output per
capita between and among countries, and explain why some countries are economically growing faster
than others. These factors are best represented in both the theoretical and empirical forms through the
neoclassical endogenous growth models (Steil, 2013, n.p.).
Economic growth revolves around business cycle which include the following phases; depression,
growth or expansion, boom and recession. During economic downfalls such as recession and
depression phases, it is evident that aggregate demand for both goods and services might be
insufficient thus leading to unnecessarily high unemployment rates, low investments and potential
losses of economic output. At this phase the economy of a country goes down as some of the
investments and savings are used to cater for other basic necessities. Inflation also pins down the
growth further as the purchasing power of the current level of income is greatly reduced. As explained
by the IS/LM model in the general theory by John Hicks, there are some

have fun with the company she please. The story Daisy Miller is a lot like The Age of Innocence. In
both the movie and the book the leading lady was shunned from society because of their behavior.
Both Daisy and the Countess Olenska were misunderstood and out casted because they were saw as

During the recession beginning in the early 1990s, Mercedes Benz (MB) struggled with product
development, cost efficiency, material purchasing and problems in adapting to changing markets. In
1993, these problems caused the worst sales slump in decades, and the luxury carmaker lost money for
the first time in its history. Since then, MB has streamlined the core business, reduced parts and
system complexity, and established simultaneous engineering programs with suppliers.
In their search for additional market share, new segments, and new niches, MB started developing a

For example, many automotive experts believed the superior handling of MB products resulted from
manufacturing the best automobile chassis in the world. Thus, each class within the MB line met strict
standards for handling, even though these standards might exceed customer expectations for some

company s strategic objective was to deliver products that were slightly more expensive than
competitive models. However, the additional cost would have to translate into greater perceived value
on the part of the customer.
Throughout the project realization phase, the vehicle (and vehicle target cost) remained alive because
of changing dynamics. For example, the market moved toward the luxury end of the spectrum while
the AAV was under development. In addition, crash test results were incorporated into the evolving
AAV design. For these reasons, MB found it beneficial to place the design and testing team members
in close physical proximity to other functions within the project to promote fast communication and
decision making. Sometimes new technical features, such as side air bags, were developed by MB.
The decision to include the new feature on all MB lines was made at the corporate level because
experience had shown that customers reactions to a vehicle class can affect the entire brand.

Essay Against Animal Testing
Millions of animals suffer due to effects of testing they must endure. This testing is usually done
unethically and causes major harm. It s wrong to harm animals for the sake of testing products for
society. Furthermore, animals are living creatures just like humans and should not be treated
differently. While testing animals may be cheaper, it is morally wrong and causes many harmful side
effects in animals. First, not only is animal testing cruel and distasteful but it is morally wrong. Killing
animals for fur products such as coats, earmuffs, beanies, and scarfs is unjustifiable. Researchers have
horrifying ways of killing these creatures by snapping their necks, boiling in water, and electrical
shocks so they don t damage the fur that they need for the products. It matters because animals don t

There can be no denying that the first half of the 20th century was such an important period in Chinese

Qing Dynasty was overthrown, and the Republic of China (ROC) took its place. In 1949, the People s

factors that differentiated the two. For us to compare and contrast the two, we should understand the

The causes of the 1911 revolution could be attributed to an unorthodox combination of government

Three stages are faced by most school aged children. Stage three, initiative vs. guilt, is for
preschoolers. If they are given freedom to imagine, be responsible, take decisions, to plan, then
tendency toward initiative will be encouraged. However, if children are always restricted and not
shown any appreciation for their ideas or decisions, they will feel guilty about acting on their own.
The fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, is for students of elementary and middle school. Children are
encouraged to do things well and finish tasks. They are praised for their achievements and they
develop self confidence and industry. But, children who fail to achieve or who are constantly criticized
will be left with the feeling of inferiority. Identity vs. role confusion is the fifth stage faced by
adolescence, from 12 18 years. In this stage, adolescents seek their true selves and identity through
exploration of different behaviors, values, and beliefs. If adolescent succeeds, identity develops and if
they don t, it results into role confusion. When an adolescent is challenged by role confusion, Erikson

  • 2. Raymond Carver Cathedral Theme Rosa Alicia Ghazaly Mr. Joel Ohren English 102 December 15 2016 Cathedral Theme I read the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver. This story describes the first time meeting between a blind man and a sighted man. Robert, who is blind, is visiting for a few days with his long time friend who is the wife and her husband is only referred to as Bub. The wife and Bub are both sighted. When the wife ended her employment with Robert over ten years ago, Robert asked if he could touch her face before she left. Robert and the wife stayed in touch even after she left her old job by communicating with audio tape over the past ten years. The wife has just picked up Robert at the train station and brought him to her home. Bub, the husband has never met ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Cathedral is a place for people to go and worship, to connect with God. By drawing the Cathedral the narrator is in some ways also making a connection. For the first time he appears to be able to see. There is also a sense of irony at the end of the story. The narrator s eyes are closed and he is being led by a blind man, yet he is able to see. Carver never explains what it is the narrator sees, but there is the sense that he has found a connection and is no longer detached or isolated. Raymond Carvers choice of theme of blindness makes his goal of offering a deeper understanding of the nature of human a success. He is able to tell readers that there is physical blindness and psychological blindness. Those with the physical disability could see well than those who are not. This motif is accentuated by these examples from the story the first is the demeanor of Bub which shows signs of disapproval of the imminent visit of his wife s blind friend, the second is his contemplating the basis of his wife s friendship with Robert, and the third is his verbal and sensory interaction with the blind man when he draws a cathedral on a paper ... • 3. Renewable Energy In America Fuel price seems to be the subject that always makes headlines on a regular basis. The United States is the biggest consumer of energy in the world. Lucas Davis, a Berkeley Professor conducted a study in 2013 on global oil consumption and found that the average American consumes more than 300 gallons of gasoline annually. The amount is at least 200 gallons more than other developed countries such as Germany, and France. (Davis, 2013) The high consumption forces Americans to rely on foreign fuel sources since domestic energy is simply not enough to satisfy the thirst. Rising fuel price coupled with fuel shortage scare are often a common concern for every American, thus there needs to be an invention to stretch the supply in case of disaster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethanol did not become such a staple addition to gasoline until the 1970s due to fuel shortage scare. Its use became even more prevalent in the early 2000s with the increase in global warming awareness. The Renewable Fuels Association reports that the United States alone produced over 15 billion gallons of ethanol, a 14 billion gallons increase from its production in 1999 (Industry Statistics, 2017). While ethanol is a clean energy when use, however, its production is not quite as clean clean as it appears to be. Ethanol is considered renewable since the heartland of the United States grows so much corn annually to supply the plant. The corn growing process is quite damaging to the environment. Farming equipment runs on diesel fuel, which directly contributes to the greenhouse gas production. The use of fertilizer and insect repellent chemical is harmful to soil and atmosphere. The transportation of crops relies heavily on semi tractors that still heavily rely on fossil fuel, thus exacerbate the problem. Not to mention that ethanol plants require electricity primarily generated by coal fired power plants since it is much more efficient and a lot cheaper. All these factors contribute to the global warming problem, the very problem that ethanol is supposed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. House Of Sand And Fog Character Analysis There are two kinds of people in the world, some who think they are unrivaled, and others who think they are overpowered. The difference between these two individuals is appearance. One thinks the appearance they put forth is of prestige, while another thinks their appearance is of unworthiness. Similarly, in the novel House of Sand and Fog, the characters face internal conflict where they want to have a certain appearance, yet cannot fully achieve it. After recently separating from her husband and getting rid of her Alcohol addiction, Kathy is trying her best to return back to normalcy with only the inherited house she has left. However, after being evicted out of the house for false charges, Kathy becomes even more lonely and and cogitates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick, Kathy s ex husband unusually left her one day when he decided that he could not handle their life together anymore. Kathy, who still thinks about why Nick left her often wonders how life would be different if they were not separated. After getting evicted out of her humble abode, Kathy ponders, My husband got to miss all this, that s what I kept thinking that he didn t have to be around for any of this, and I was stuck at the El Rancho motel in San Bruno (Dubus, 34). These thoughts evidently display that Kathy has still not moven away from her past, as the first person she thinks about right after being evicted is her ex husband. Nonetheless, when she meets Lester Burdon, she instantly feels an attraction towards him and feels that life has finally changed. However, their affair is short lived, as Kathy feels that Lester does not want to fully divorce his wife, and so she tries to let go of him for his own good. In one particular incident, Kathy is reminded of Lester by the gun he mistakenly left in the car; In one fluid motion, I put the gas can in and pulled the coiled leather snake out, kept it under my arm as I unlocked my door, rested it on the seat beside me me, what Lester left behind before we went into the truck stop bar for our last dance, his sheriffness, his sword, like a gift he d willed me, a piece of him to carry and remember him by (206). Through Lester s last remaining piece, his gun, Kathy believes it is a significant reminder for her to stop running to him and take a step back. Although she is trying to forget about him, it does not last for long as many things remind Kathy of Lester. Throughout the novel Kathy is desolate and pensive, but not in a positive way. She tries to run away from her negligent past by wasting away her present, which leads to many other mournful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We ll keep you in the loop about our progress through petition posts and encourage everyone to get on board. Globalization Globalization is actually an ongoing process of interconnectedness between nations, multinational corporations (MNCs), international non governmental organizations (INGOs), and individuals. Globalization has led to a growing gap between those who have access and opportunities by which to thrive and those who do not. There are now 793 billionaires (as of 2009) representing an essentially unimaginable amount of wealth. At the same time, there are millions of workers laboring in conditions we would likely consider inhumane, and doing so for starvation level wages. And still, there are those who do not even have access to jobs whose conditions are even worse. Globalization can benefit some but leaves other nation further and further behind. Inequalities It can be argued that the trend for global inequality is that The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. This can be seen in two graphs, the first shows that the high income nations have risen dramatically compared to the middle and low income nation which only increasing slightly over the years. Spectroscopy Of Triclosan Lab Part One: Spectroscopy of Triclosan Experimental: To determine the Concentration of triclosan in an antibacterial hand soap in experiment C, a collection of stock solutions were made. The solutions included sodium nitrate, 4 sulfanilic acid, sodium hydroxide, triclosan, and a glycine buffer. One of the multiple negative impacts that humans have to the oceans include overfishing. Everyday, fish are caught by the hundreds because of humans, which plays a major impact on marine life. As the the days, months, and years go by, marine life within the oceans becomes less healthy due to overfishing by humans. Without fish being a choice of food, more demand will be needed for different types of food and will cause an impact. One of the many marine life animals that gets overfished today are sharks. If sharks keep getting overfished, the entire marine food chain will become greatly affected. Humans continuously eliminate sharks, which are the leading predators of the oceans, at a such fast rate and will cause a trophic cascade. A trophic cascade is when the top predators in any system are being eliminating. Due to the fact that sharks are being killed constantly, its prey are growing rapidly in population and offsetting marine life (Irish Times). Sharks are very important within the ocean and are a big part of the ecosystem. Without them, the ecosystem would become very unbalanced which will happen if overfishing the sharks continues. Not only are sharks being overfished, but scallops and other shellfish are too. The result of this leads to water quality suffering (Irish Times). With bad water quality, it makes it harder for all types of marine life to live their day to day life at full potential health. • 11. Cross Cultural Communication Important For Businesses In this report, I will justify, why is cross cultural communication important for businesses in the 21st century. Cross cultural communication is a very important factor for businesses in these days because of the rapid economic development hence globalisation. Therefore, knowledge and understanding of a cultural diversity are a must especially for businesses operated worldwide to correctly react to body language, symbols, gestures or situations that can be easily misunderstood due to cultural differences and can lead to the unsuccessful transactions, contracts or a business as a whole, for example, Americans or British use the gesture thumb up to express that everything going well, while in Bangladesh it means rude or awful. Living or doing a business in different country does not only mean knowing their food, music or clothing, but mainly to understand their beliefs and values, as these are usually hidden deeply beneath the surface, even though we may find some habits or beliefs in the different country s culture to be same or very similar to ours. In my opinion, it is very difficult to talk about cultural differences without making statements or likelihood, hence generalisations, which can help to describe how people from one culture usually behave and react in a particular situation. However, even though generalisation can help to learn and understand different cultures around the world, it can lead to a negative stereotyping, miscommunication and conflicts. What ... As true as that may be, the advances of technology in the modern era make that difficult. Photoshop, an image editing software that allows you to alter images limitlessly, is one of the biggest dilemmas facing society today. Photoshop has the power to manipulate an image s appearance beyond recognition, making it possible to transform an average looking individual into a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world ( Brown 87). This act of photo manipulation didn t begin with Adobe Photoshop, a photoshop software that has been accused of sabotaging the truthfulness of photographs, but rather it began long before in the 1800s when techniques like hand colouring and retouching were done physically by the photographer s hands instead of a computer s (Fineman dust jacket). The use of photoshop, or the act of photo manipulation, has a negative impact on society. It causes self esteem issues and possibly even eating and mental disorders due to the viewers being falsely directed by flawless images that distort reality. • 24. Economic Growth And Economic Development Economic growth refers to an increase in the capacity for an economy to produce goods and services as compared from one period of time to another. It can be measured either in nominal terms which include inflation, or in real terms that are adjusted for inflation. It is mainly influenced by unemployment, inflation, technology levels, rate of investment, population growth rate, among other factors. These factors are used further to explain the differences in the varying level of output per capita between and among countries, and explain why some countries are economically growing faster than others. These factors are best represented in both the theoretical and empirical forms through the neoclassical endogenous growth models (Steil, 2013, n.p.). Economic growth revolves around business cycle which include the following phases; depression, growth or expansion, boom and recession. During economic downfalls such as recession and depression phases, it is evident that aggregate demand for both goods and services might be insufficient thus leading to unnecessarily high unemployment rates, low investments and potential losses of economic output. At this phase the economy of a country goes down as some of the investments and savings are used to cater for other basic necessities. Inflation also pins down the growth further as the purchasing power of the current level of income is greatly reduced. Mercedes-Benz Aav 13 4 Mercedes Benz All Activity Vehicle (AAV) During the recession beginning in the early 1990s, Mercedes Benz (MB) struggled with product development, cost efficiency, material purchasing and problems in adapting to changing markets. In 1993, these problems caused the worst sales slump in decades, and the luxury carmaker lost money for the first time in its history. Since then, MB has streamlined the core business, reduced parts and system complexity, and established simultaneous engineering programs with suppliers. Throughout the project realization phase, the vehicle (and vehicle target cost) remained alive because of changing dynamics. For example, the market moved toward the luxury end of the spectrum while the AAV was under development. In addition, crash test results were incorporated into the evolving AAV design. For these reasons, MB found it beneficial to place the design and testing team members in close physical proximity to other functions within the project to promote fast communication and decision making. Sometimes new technical features, such as side air bags, were developed by MB. The decision to include the new feature on all MB lines was made at the corporate level because experience had shown that customers reactions to a vehicle class can affect the entire brand. It s wrong to harm animals for the sake of testing products for society. Furthermore, animals are living creatures just like humans and should not be treated differently. While testing animals may be cheaper, it is morally wrong and causes many harmful side effects in animals. First, not only is animal testing cruel and distasteful but it is morally wrong.
