June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. There are a range of jobs through out the media industry. During this
PowerPoint I am going to portray some of the job roles and the way they
work in the media world and who is allocated that specific role. However,
because we have a small group of 3 personnel we have bee allocated 3 main
roles each to fill in completing the pre- production process these jobs are that
of the:
Director - Kenny
Producer - Ashley
Camera operator - James
Production assistant - Ashley
JOBS
3. The job of the actor is to bring to life the words from the script, and to turn
pre production stages into production stages. They have to play their
significant role in the suited manner following the script. Actors are important
as they are used to pass artists(auture) dreams and stories on to make them
real. In my short film we only have two actors as that was all that was needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN ACTOR
Daniel = victim
body in the
sheets.
Kenny = the
mysterious man
These actors where chosen
because we are all of the same
age group and same class,
making it easier to work
together. And they where
chosen as they had experiences
in acting.
4. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
DIRECTOR
The Director is responsible for the creative vision making visual come to
life, they write and study the scripts and decide what is the best to interpret
them. Directors must have a strong understanding of all areas of the
production from the initial concept right through to the edit because they
are the overall overseer. Directors are highly creative and multitalented as
they have to incorporate there creativeness into the scripts to bring it to life
and make it portray a story that will attract audiences. However they are also
there to talk spirit in to all production workers (motivate them and help
them with difficulties that a member of production must face. As I Kenny
Akale, I’ am the director I was chosen because I am able to talk to people
and make them express themselves and I like to take charge and lead like
the saying ‘be an eagle not a follower’ quoted by Mrs. Akale.
5. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
PRODUCTION MANAGER
Production Manager
The Production Manager is an extremely important role, as
they are responsible for organising all aspects of the
production such as the schedule and budgeting. They make
sure that the production meets deadline, stays within the target
audience, stays within budget and that the day to day running
of the production is as efficient as possible.
6. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A
PRODUCER
Producer
The Producer will work on the production for the entire
process from the initial concept right through to marketing and
distribution. They are important to the success of the final
piece, as they oversee every aspect of production. They hire key
members of the production team, approve locations, schedules,
budgets, and scripts (script lining with the director). They have
to also motivate actors within the team.
7. RESPONSIBILITY OF A EDITOR
Film Editors assemble footage of collected for the films
ranging from different camera shots to create more affect an a
sense of realism. They manipulate plot, sound, and graphics
e.g. Day for Night to refine the overall story into a continuous
and enjoyable whole for the soul purpose of making sense. In
this case we are all going to be editors as we are all going to
separately edit the 1minute short film to show that we
understand how to edit also along side of that we will be
doing a EDL (edit decisions list) and arranging good shots
and bad shots by there location into bins so work is organised
allow easy access to shots. Editors:
Kenny
Ashley
James
8. EQUIPMENT
The cannon 1100d- was
used because of its high
quality and that it is easy to
use meaning I can focus on
the filming side rather than
hoe to operate it.
The tripod is necessary
because the short film is
supposed to be ‘static’
meaning you cannot move
the camera. Shot must be
still and it helps with the
rule of 3rd rule.
This light was used
because I needed to film
in the dark so in some
scenes so I will need to
make subjects easily
visible so they can be
picked up on camera.
9. EQUIPMENT
The SD card is very
important as this is where I
will store all my captured
footage from the cannon
camera. without this I would
not be able to capture
footage.
Final cut pro is used to
edit my short film by
putting all shots
together in order for the
film to make sense and
come to life. Final cut
allows me to edit and
add certain affects to
make my short film
more realistic and
enjoyable.
10. PROPS
The purpose of the bedsheet in
my short film is so the victim can
be hidden under Neath them to
make it look realistic and to show
convention of ‘death’ as you will
be able to know if someone is
dead if they are covered in a sheet
with blood on it. The mystery
man puts a body in the sheets and
digs up the body (in my short
film).
11. PROPS
The purpose of the shovel in my
short film is for the name as the
short film is called shovel and
because the film is practically
based around the shovel it was
also used to dig a hole for the
dead body to create a realistic
scene.
The plastic knife represents how the body
in the bed sheets died. We used a plastic
knife as we couldn’t use a real one as we
were in public and we didn’t want to get
permission from a police officer to watch
over us so we used the next best thing.
12. PROPS
After finishing the actual fake blood
we turned two our second option
which was even better. We used
ketchup in our short film to
represent blood as it looked realistic
when spread and dry and best of all
its accessible and affordable.
13. The mysterious man will be wearing an all black outfit (black - is associated
with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery. Black is a mysterious
colour associated with fear and the unknown (black holes). It usually has a
negative connotation). This is because we want him to be kind of anonymous.
but in the case of my short film black indicates mystery and death but we also
gave the mysterious man a white top top show he has a bit of innocents in his
heart (white - is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and
virginity. It is considered to be the colour of perfection. White means safety,
purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive
connotation). In the case of my short film the top portrays a shed of
innocence as he goes to the church for forgiveness.
COSTUME FOR THE MYSTERIOUS
MAN
16. The costumes below are what the victim of the man in the bed sheets will be
wearing. Showing and playing a smart character from the city (high life $$$)
who is killed, buried, and awakens from the dead but who knows….
You know very little about this character in the short film.
