A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is a transmission which better fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and a lower mass. Current efforts to reduce the vehicles, fuel consumption in order to protect the environment and save fuel have seen a recent resurgence in CVT research, especially in the automotive allow a continuous variation of the output velocity by adjusting its geometrical configuration. This offers several advantages over traditional transmissions such as industry. The torque of the continuously variable transmission system with friction drive mechanism is transmitted by contacting roller with input and output disks. For the higher transmitted torque, it is necessary to apply large load in order to get higher friction force, which in turn generates severe high stress on the contact surfaces of roller and disks. The 'Toroidal' type CVT system has simple component arrays. This work documents a successfully developed experimental model of a 'Toroidal' continuously variable transmission (CVT) by adjusting its geometrical configuration of CVT design and compared the experimental results of speed, torque and power delivered at the output disc with those obtained by a theoretical.

Abstract Planetary Gear Trains are extensively used for the power transmission and are the most critical component. Planetary gearboxes are used frequently to match the inertias, lower the motor speed, boost the torque, and at the same time provide a sturdy mechanical interface for pulleys, cams, drums and other mechanical components. This paper presents the advantages of planetary gear systems over other, consideration to be given while determining the reduction ratios of gear box, minimum and maximum reductions per stage of planetary gear pairs. Also the case study to determine the reduction ratio of two stage gear box is discussed. With growing time, the participation of the students in SAE BAJA is increasing year by year. The vehicle’s performance is highly dependent on the installation and appropriate use of Drivetrain components. Drivetrain includes powertrain (prime mover i.e. engine/motor) and transmission components (gearbox, shafts etc). Therefore, Drivetrain is also called as the driving force of any vehicle. The proper design of Drivetrain is thus a part and parcel for any vehicle. The lack of literature available for a optimize design of Drivetrain makes it a hard nut to crack for the students who don’t have any past experience. Thus there is a need for some source by which the students can learn to design the Drivetrain for SAE BAJA. The engine vibration is another aspect which is needed to be considered. NVH consideration is another deciding parameter in BAJA vehicle’s performance which if neglected could leads to lethal results. Therefore proper installation of engine mounts is required according to the need.
Thus, this segment aims at developing the Drivetrain for BAJA vehicles which can boost up the performance of the vehicle. Properly use of a powertrain and transmission components for a vehicle along with the calculations according to the need will be discussed in detail. This segment also aims at developing the conceptual understanding of the performance parameters of a BAJA vehicle among the student which will be helpful in their academic curriculum as well.

● Assuming a Coefficient of friction of 0.25 was used, a gear ratio of 34:1 is

in a more compact design.
8. Initial Designs
In a planetary gear motor, the input
shaft drives the central (sun) gear,
which then turns the surrounding
(planet) gears. This arrangement allows
each of the planet gears to deliver
torque in perfect synchronization with
the others, which leads to greater
output capacity and takes the pressure
off of each individual gear.

9. What’s wrong with our solution:
Complexity:
The relative complexity of the planetary gear set is a problem with our
solution.
A spur gear set does not need the tolerances to be so tight.
Torque is limited in spur motor gears since each gear bears the whole load.
There are more components in a planetary gear set, therefore a higher risk of
problems in manufacturing errors and human error
10. What is right for our solution:
The planetary gear set has a high power to size ratio.
It therefore should reduce the amount of material needed for manufacture
A planetary gear motor shares the torsional load over several planet gears, so
it works well when a higher torque is required. So there is less worry about
wear and stress, which makes it easier to attain large amounts of power
transfer without harming the gears.
