This presentation discusses the design of the pedal box for an FSAE vehicle. The pedal box needs to accommodate a wide range of driver sizes and sustain braking forces of 2kN or 600N for 1.4G deceleration. The main issues are the sliding adjustment mechanism, throttle oscillation, brake bias control, foot cups, and protecting the potentiometer. Several potential solutions are presented, such as rollers on tracks, threaded bolts, springs, and dampers to address the adjustment mechanism and oscillation problems. Remote versus manual brake bias control and designs for the foot cups and potentiometer guard are also considered.
