Sometimes the question about spirituality, and why people believe in it swarms
around the minds of today s society. It never occurred to me about the importance
of why people believed in religion or superstition until I entered high school.
Growing up Catholic, it felt like a routine to attend mass every Friday and Sunday
because that was what everyone I knew did. I was never that interested in any beliefof
God, let alone any interest in superstition. I always thought that my religious beliefs
tied to my cultural background. Growing up as a second generation of Filipino
heritage, life without Christ was looked upon as unbearable, and less motivating to

West Side Story is a story that was transitioned from a play to a movie. This play
was a readaptation of the playwright by William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet. In
West Side Story story, there are two many characters they are Tony and Maria. Both
plays show the cause and effect of the unnecessary feud between two groups of
people, which in return are given death.
These two star crossed lovers come from completely opposite sides of a feud. This
feud separates the two lovers, making it impossible for them to be together in the
world they live in. The feud is between two groups, the Jets which are the Americans
with different heritages, then there are the Sharks who are Puerto Rican immigrants.

Practice, University Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety
Management Training from The American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history
and application of Anxiety Management Training, AMT.
He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at
various universities. Suinn first talks how he first examined how anxiety influenced
the relationship between self acceptance and acceptance of others and the association
between anxiety and identification at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After
many years of research he along with one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found that
anxiety disrupts the trend for self perceptions to color evaluations of others and is
significantly associated with low self esteem. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) While at
Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they
hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety.
However, this hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship
between the two. Suinn, then talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here,
along with some of his students, investigated if group desensitization or individual
desensitization was more effective. It was found that they were both equally

The unknown compound was solid at room temperature and was white. It was soluble

could not be bromide or iodide. The second anion test was performed by mixing the
unknown solution with barium chloride. A milky white precipitate formed from that
mixture so the anion present in the unknown compound was sulfate.

However many skeptics argue that this is not enough evidence to determine whether
animals have emotions or if they are just exhibiting primary instincts. Nevertheless
many researchers studying animal emotions believe that humans are not the only
animals to experience emotion.
In 1988 at the University of Zurich, Eduard Stammbach set up an experiment with
long tailed macaque monkeys to determine if they were able to rein aggressive
behavior and act cooperatively. Subgroups of monkeys were created, and the lowest
ranking monkey was taught to press a set of levers in a specific sequence that caused
a machine to deliver popcorn. The high ranking monkeys noticed the low ranking
monkeys unique skills. The high ranking monkeys soon began grabbing all the
popcorn. Before long the low ranking monkeys stopped operating the machine. This
did not last long because the higher ranking monkeys began to change their behavior.
The higher ranking monkeys began to approach the lower ranking monkeys more
peacefully, and allowed the lower ranking monkeys a share of the popcorn.
Furthermore some higher ranking monkeys began to groom the lower monkeys even

Throughout the course of United States history, there have been multiple occurrences

colonization of the colonies, the United States has proven to have improved its nation

However; the Northwest Ordinanceof 1787, the creation of the Erie Canal, Henry

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was an important occurrence that effected the

Ordinance of 1787 was a land act that provided for orderly settlement and established
a process by which settles territories would become the states of Ohio, Illinois,
Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It therefore banned the slavery in these Northwest

Throughout the Holocaust, the severity of the violence increased drastically. By the
end of the Holocaust, people were beaten, starved, and pushed to their physical
limits. Elie Wiesel experienced these actions first hand. The Jewish were treated
more severely by the soldiers and by each other during their marches, convoys, and
when they were ill. This was all due to the dehumanization of the Jews. It all began

for evaluation of peripheral neuropathy. She states that it started about a year and a
half ago in her toes and has slowly increased to involve her soles of her feet and the
dorsum and now the lower one third of her calves bilaterally. There is occasional
problems with edema in her lower extremities, but this has come later. The severity
of the numbness changes if she walks for a long period of time, at which point it gets
more numb. She currently is not having any burning or jabbing pain. She does not
have the symptoms in her hands or in her torso. She does have hypothyroidism, but
she is on medication. She is obese with problems with fasting glucose and
hyperglycemia. Her hemoglobin A1C went from 4 to slightly over 5 over the course
of the last year, but she has not been given the diagnosis of diabetes. She has no other

Zen Meditation Papers
Zen meditation is the study of self. According to great master Dogen, To study
Buddha is to study the self, to study the self is to forget the self, and to forget the self
is to be enlightened by the ten thousand things. We have to recognize the unity of the
self and things surrounded in order to be enlightened and understand Buddha. By
practicing zenmeditation, we can achieve the state of unity.
Zen meditation originates from Buddhism, so in the old days almost every devoted
buddhists practiced zen meditation and saw it as a way of communicating with
Buddha. The history of Buddhism spans the 6th century BC to the present which
makes it one of the oldest religions practiced today. But the history of zen meditation
is rather short.

I learned various forms, perspectives, and policies pertaining to terrorism in this
course. Some of the statistics about counter terrorism, the source of terrorists, and
the background of terrorist were expected. I expected terrorist to come from

military. Various resources, funds, time and agencies are utilized in the pursuit of
counter terrorism. Finding out that local policing and change in politics are the two

Headlines mention keywords like special ops or special forces to describe the group
of men and women involved in successfully counter terrorism. An example of this is
the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden. The media stressed that the terrorist
leader was captured by a team of 6 special forces Navy Seals. Navy Seal Robert J O
Neil being the key figure of headlines after the death of bin Laden. Learning in class
that using military force for counter terrorism is ineffective and could possibly lead
to insurgency was surprising. Due to the media s reports, I, like most Americans,
assumed that the military was most effective before this course. In truth terrorist
changing to nonviolent means of reaching goals accounts for 43 percent of ending
terrorist groups. Local policing accounts for about 40 percent of terrorist groups
