Interracial Relationships Essay
Composing an essay on the subject of interracial relationships presents a unique set of challenges
that require careful consideration and sensitivity. Addressing this topic involves delving into
complex societal issues, historical contexts, and personal experiences, making it crucial to
approach the subject with nuance and empathy.
One of the primary difficulties lies in navigating the intricate web of cultural, racial, and societal
dynamics that influence interracial relationships. A comprehensive exploration may require an in-
depth understanding of the historical background, examining the impact of racism, stereotypes,
and cultural biases on individuals and communities. Balancing the historical perspective with
contemporary viewpoints adds an additional layer of complexity to the essay.
Moreover, addressing the personal aspect of interracial relationships necessitates a delicate touch.
It involves acknowledging and respecting diverse perspectives, experiences, and emotions.
Juggling the need for inclusivity while avoiding generalizations or perpetuating stereotypes
requires careful wording and thoughtful analysis.
The essay must also consider the evolving nature of societal attitudes towards interracial
relationships. This involves staying updated on current events, research findings, and cultural
shifts, as these factors can significantly influence the discourse surrounding the topic. Striking a
balance between acknowledging progress and recognizing persistent challenges is essential to
present a well-rounded perspective.
Furthermore, the essay should encourage critical thinking and foster constructive dialogue.
Navigating potentially sensitive content requires skill in presenting arguments without alienating
readers or perpetuating divisiveness. Achieving a tone that invites reflection and discussion,
rather than confrontation, is crucial in conveying the essay's message effectively.
In conclusion, composing an essay on interracial relationships demands a careful blend of
historical awareness, cultural sensitivity, and empathy. It is a task that requires a nuanced
approach to address the multifaceted layers of this complex subject. With the right balance, an
essay on interracial relationships can contribute to fostering understanding and promoting
meaningful conversations about diversity and unity in society.

Sexuality And The Female Body
Sex. A lot of people have it, a lot of people want to have it, and it is generally
considered a pretty great thing, but why are there so many taboos surrounding
sex? Particularly, there seems to be a lot a taboos pertaining to women and their
relationship with sex. Society has always been uncomfortable with women
expressing their sexuality and often downplays women s capacities for sexual
pleasure. Our literature reflects this. Women in literature do not often express
their sexuality openly, or if they do, they are vilified. If the women are not vilified,
the book will often be banned (like several of the books we ve read in class, like Mrs.
Warren s Profession and ChГ©ri). Peggy Orenstein s article When Did Porn Become

In Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Maggie s own husband can t stand her and she is
constantly berated by her in laws. In Mrs. Warren s Profession, the eponymous
Mrs. Warren is rejected by her own daughter because she is a former prostitute.
While Maggie is one of the most likeable characters in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, she
certainly isn t well liked by the other characters. She and Mae clearly have a rivalry
and Brick, not being sexually interested in her aside, can t stand her. Throughout
the course of the book, his resentment of her becomes clearer. From the beginning
of the play he s already been looking at Maggie in a way that [freezes her] blood,
(p. 26) a clear sign of resentment and he doesn t even know he s doing it. Even if
Brick is gay, or even if he isn t, Maggie being portrayed negatively just shows how
uncomfortable society is with women pursuing sex. In the first scene Maggie
drops some less than subtle hints about wanting sex and then spends the rest of the
play being resented by Brick and all but tormented by the rest of her extended
family. While Brick may not be interested in her because of his sexuality, he offers
no clarity and thus appears extremely indifferent to his wife and how negatively
this has affected her. She nearly breaks down at the beginning of the play because
she s gone through a hideous transformation (p. 26) after years of an unfulfilling
marriage and tries to tell Brick how lonely she is, how lonely he makes her feel, and
his only response
What Is A Hero s Journey
Christopher Vasquez 2/9/17 Period 2 The Urge to Travel Have you ever wondered
why some people today do the most absurd, crazy things, even though it can cost
them their life? That question is expressed in the Anglo Saxon poem, The Seafarer.
Although the original writer of the poem is unknown, it was translated from it s
original language to English by Burton Raffel. The author explains the hardships of a
sea traveler in the Anglo saxon times, who had to travel for months, even years,
without seeing their friends and family. It was never certain that they would meet
again, as diseases and conflicts were frequent in this time, which made the job all the
more challenging and anxious. The author describes the elements of this poem by

One of the main themes of the poem is that the speaker has some unknown urge to
move with the sea And yet my heart wanders away, my soul roams with the sea, the
whale s home, wandering to the widest corners. (lines 58 60). He seems to be at a
conflict with himself between wanting to live a stable life, and wanting to travel
the seas. In the end, it seems like no matter what, his heart urges him to travel. The
theme represents mankind s great urge to travel and to explore no matter how life
threatening the journey is. Another recurring theme that the author points out is
fate and the journey to the afterlife. In the poem, God represents fate itself,
controlling people s destiny No man has ever faced the dawn certain which of fate
s three threats would fall: illness, or age, or an enemy s sword, snatching the life
from his soul. (lines 68 71). The author is saying that nothing is going to change our
fate, and we should be fine with that. The only thing that we should worry about is
our inevitable arrival to Heaven. Considering this, the seafarer s ravenous travels
could be a symbolic way of showing the journey and will of the human soul into the
How Does Napalm Affect The Human Body
Kim Phu`c, a survivor from the Napalm bombing, says Napalm is the most painful
thing you can ever imagine, water boils at 212 degrees fahrenheit, Napalm generates
temperatures at 1,500 2,200 degrees fahrenheit. Kim had third degree burns all over
her body. In 1965 1972, US troops used napalm in the Vietnam; napalmwas a mix of
plastic polystyrene, hydrocarbon benzene, and gasoline. When all of these
substances are mixed together it creates a jelly like substance. When napalm is
ignited and will stick to just about anything and burn up to ten minutes. The effect
of napalm on the human body is unbearably painful and almost always was the
cause of death. Napalm was first used in flamethrowers for U.S. ground troops. They
burned down all the forest and bushes in hope of taking out all of their enemies. Air
raid that used napalm were much more devastating than the flamethrowers. A single
bomb could clear an area of 2,500 square yards. Throughout the war, 1965 1973,
eight million tons of bombs were dropped over Vietnam; this was more than three
times the amount used in WWII.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Harvard University researchers, Dr. Louis Fiesers, discovered that mixing rubber with
gasoline burns longer than just gasoline alone. However, rubber was scarce at the
time. So they had to find other ingredients. They eventually mixed aluminum soap
powder with gasoline, among other chemicals, to produce an extremely long burning
substance. In 1980, the United Nations decided that the effects were too horrific. A
number of nations decided to no longer us

Civil Mammals Violence has become a major problem in modern day society.
Gruesome video games and certain entertainment shows such as pro wrestling has
been exposing violence to kids that later on wish to emulate these actions. These
actions are then publicized to the world by violent acts toward other species and
human beings. In his article, An Elephant Crackup, Charles Siebert depicts the
violence that humans have done toward the elephant culture and how humans should
put a stop to these acts and save elephants from extinction. With his strong defense on

This is due to the fact that children are attached to their caretakers for a long period of
time, just like elephants. If both species had empathy toward one another then young
children from both man and pachyderm would receive appropriate guidance,
therefore obtaining a better and healthier society. Humans must set an example for
elephants by displaying positive behavior to eliminate the violence that can put both
species at risk. In his article, Siebert describes the many violent attacks that elephants
have done toward humans due to the captivity that humans have kept elephants under.
The captivity toward elephants has emerged due to a lack of human empathy, which
then causes elephants to rage more and engage in violent attacks. Gay Bradshaw, a
psychologist at the environmental sciences program goes further to distinguish
relationships between humans and animals:
Where for centuries humans and elephants lived in relative peaceful coexistence,
there is now hostility and violence. Now I use the term violence because of the
intentionality associated with it, both in the aggression of humans and, at times, the
recently observed behavior of elephants (527).
The key phrase that Bradshaw states is the peaceful coexistence that humans and
elephants used to have. Both humans and elephants are wild creatures and it is
undeniably difficult for two extremes to make peace, especially
How People Perceive Differently
Many people perceive thoughts differently because they all have different view of
the world. After reading the text, Communications in a Changing World, I learned
how people can interpret things differently. There are steps of perception everyone
goes through which includes interpretation, selection, and organization. As I showed
a picture to three different people, they all had different words that described the
picture and this explains how people perceive thoughts differently. Everyone in life
has different views of the world because of their experiences and beliefs. People
went through many obstacles in life which alters their belief system. Once their
belief system has been constructed, they are in a habitual cycle which makes... Show

However, Jimmy did not use any words that were stereotypical. He only used
words that described the person s actions. By this analysis, people perceive
differently by the way they operate their views and belief system. People tend to
cooperate by approximately determining their belief system and that is how they
feel comfortable as the author states, we often put ourselves in familiar situations,
see the same patterns, and focus on the same senses in ways that are predictable
and comfortable (Dobkins, pg.73). People may perceive differently by how they
feel at the exact moment of time. When shown the picture if the person is at a
negative state, they will look for negative words. When the person is in an excited or
happy state of mind, they will look for words that are more positive. Although media
repetition may alter one s mind about views of different nationalities, a person s
state can distract how they analyze things of this world. For example, a person in a
good state may present happier motives and bring excitement and joyful emotions to
the table. However, a person with a negative state of mind may extract bad energy
that may bring people around them down. A person s state may alter how they
perceive things differently. Jimmy and John may have used more positive words
because they may be in a positive state of mind at the moment. However, David may
have been in a negative state of mind at the moment he
The Bad Image Of Black Athlete
The bad image of black athlete is one of the most important problems today. African
American athletes are not that different from white athletes; however, media betrays
a bad image of them for some unknown reasons. Our world is full of the great African
Americans who showed incredible result in professional sport. On one side, a lot of
African American athletes in the limelight right now come from nothing to
somewhat. On the other side, there is a negative connotation that all African
Americans have is sports because they are not educated, all they have is natural talent,
and all they want is to make the money and not do anything to get there. Television
today is often concentrated in stereotype filled African Americans sitcoms, television
news is often shown in negative or crime based stories about black athletes, music
music videos profanity, misogyny, hard, thugged out. The image is terrible and the
reason for that is that media in general just looks at the negative too much.
To begin with, African Americans have undergone decades of discrimination and
racism, and despite the numerous powerful changes, which have progressively
worked to propel equality for African Americans; the residue from their
discrimination still exists in the crevices of our society today. In most cases, media
is one of the main sources people become aware of what is going on in the world.
That is how we become informed about African Americanathletes in general. It

Gay Identity And Identity
The world does not work like a digital clock where a discrete set of numbers is
presented and one must accept what is shown. The world is more similar to an
analog clock, where all possibilities are present and one can only assume one is
correct based on approximation but is never entirely sure of said approximation.
For someone who lives in such a world, I have had to learn to embrace the
contradictions both society and myself impose upon my different identities as well
as my position in respect to them. I am an Hispanic immigrant, born and raised in
El Salvador who moved to the United States way too late in his life to consider it
his home but early enough to embrace the good aspects of its culture. I am also a gay
cis gendered malewho is beginning to explore his role as a member of the gay
community. Lastly, both my embodiment and my attitudes are not that of a
masculine guy (I am not particularly muscular, my jawline is rather soft and I am
one of the unlucky few who is never able to grow decent facial hair). All of those
elements of my identity affect me as they all shape my life and experience in
different ways. It is the adaptability needed to be an immigrant, the survival instinct
and mentality that come from being gay, and the defiance of traditional narratives of
masculinitythrough my refusal to change my personality and embodiment to conform
to it that have shaped me into the individual I am today. Those aspects of my
identities have shaped the way I move
Eleanor In The Haunting Of Hill House
The protagonist in the book The Haunting of Hill House is Eleanor Vance. Eleanor
was thirty two years old when she came to Hill House (Jackson 7). When her
mother passed away, Eleanor was relieved. She did not have a good relationship
with her mother, and in fact, she didn t have a good relationship with anyone; she
had no friends. Eleanor took the role of the mother and was always taking care of
her mother; she could never escape and find the person so was going to be; she
was stuck. She was a very unhappy woman who was searching for freedom. Eleanor
always felt that her mother was holding her back and keeping her from finding
herself. When she received the invitation to go stay at Hill House for the summer, she

On one night in particular, she decides that she has become together with the
house. She starts to fall deeper and deeper into the haunted house and becomes
dangerous. Mrs. Montague even referred to her as a creature when she climbed to
the top of the stairway in the library. The morning after she made a scene in the
library and had to be saved at the top of the staircase, she was embarrassed and felt
humiliated. As time went by, she began to go insane. She was happy while she
should have been scared and sad. Eleanor loved Hill House because it was the
closest thing to a home she had. She believed she was targeted more by the ghosts
than the other house guests because she thought the ghosts only knew her name ,
which wasn t the case because the ghosts knew all of their
Meaning to Life Essay
Meaning to Life
Is there a meaning to life? First, to clear up any misunderstandings in the next few
paragraphs you are about to read, I shall explain a few things. I am not talking about
the individual people in our lives, that mean so much to us, or individual lives. That
is a whole other matter. What I mean by the meaning of life , is the greater picture.
There are people all over the world, doing their own thing, living their own lives, in
their own areas. Is there a point to this? The people themselves, benefit from
learning and having experiences while they re alive, but then they die, and all they
have accomplished, ends. Then the process begins all over again with the next
generation. So one purpose for life is established. ... Show more content on

We respect his wishes and act accordingly, as to how we believe he would like us
to act. Then, it is thought, he looks after us and takes care of us. I find this theory
hard to grasp...God, usually, is seen as this great celestial being, that is far more
advanced and powerful than any person here on Earth. He has these talents and
powers by simply...not being one of us. So, there s God....Way up there, looking
down upon us. Earth must seem like a little ant farm to him. If he s up there,
looking down and watching over us, how is it so many horrible things happen in
the world? Some of you may say it s because the people that these things happened
to, weren t behaving how they should have been, how God would have liked them
to. Or that God allows us to make choices, good or bad. Ok, then that would mean
to me that God is an unforgiving and unsympathetic, celestial meanie. Why should
he watch us create misery, see wars break out, while he remains aloof, superior and
more powerful than us? I say that s unfair. Perhaps one reason for him would be,
because it s more fun to us be so handicapped in the celestial scheme of things. It
provides more entertainment, more adventure, and it s harder. And because it s
harder, he knows there will be more rewards for us when we succeed in being good .
Something is obviously amiss with this plan, since we continue to do the same things
over and over again through the generations, and centuries.
The True Worship of Michelangelo in the film The Agony

The film The Agony and the Ecstasy, 1965, is the epic portrayal of Michelangelo
and Pope Julius II based on the historical novel of the same name, by Irving Stone,
published in 1961. Their working relationship is documented as the struggle between
two powerful and egocentric men. While one is the leader of the Christian world, the
other means to change the world through his art. The paradox is that the Pope
jealously believes Michelangeloto be the man that can capture the nature of God
more successfully and translate that to his followers. The film follows their warring
relationship and Michelangelo s progress on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, as well
as notes the inspiration that Michelangelo gets from God for his work on this... Show

The viewer watches the developing relationship between Michelangelo and Pope
Julius II, but their exchanges become repetitive. Literary license has always
allowed history to be changed for the sake of plot, including the order that
Michelangelo paints the ceiling as well as the age of Pope Julius II at the time of
Michelangelo s commission. Additionally, the film is unable to properly convey
the passage of time. While the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was painted from 1508
1512, dates are hardly mentioned in the film and the viewer is left unaware of the
length of time that Michelangelo is at work except through the graying of his hair.
Towards the end of the film, Pope Julius II tells Michelangelo that he wishes he
could have been an artist, that Michelangelo is able to inspire faith in others in a
way that even the Pope cannot. The Agony and the Ecstasy portrays Michelangelo
as a divine messenger a prophet, carrying the message and images of God to the
masses. Even Michelangelo s inspiration for his paintings comes from God. The full
somatic experience of the ceiling compels the participation of the whole body in the
complex action of the ceiling and, therefore, transforms the soul. Certainly,
Michelangelo s work is otherworldly in its beauty and magnificence, but must the
viewer s experience be restricted through a Judeo Christian

Marriage Is A Sacred Action, And The Bondage Between...
Marriage is a sacred action, and the bondage between individuals is powerful.
Marriage is one of the greatest moments in ones lifetime. Throughout different
cultures marriage has a different meaning. In some groups, marriage and your spouse
is not your decision and in others you can have multiple spouses. There are several
different forms of marriageand different cultures practice those marriages in
different ways. Marriage brings about happiness but in some cases it can bring
grief and discipline. Marriage is a bond between individuals and no matter the
circumstances, whether it s for power or love, any form of marriage should be
recognized. The definition of endogamy is a marriage within a particular group or
category of individuals (Cultural Anthropology, 204). Cultures who practice this
type of marriage require that the marriage be within his or her social group, or
ethnicity. For instance, certain areas of India, especially the Hindu community,
practice endogamy. Marriages outside of their social group are forbidden and
extreme consequences, from disowning to death, will be given. [Endogamy] is a
common practice among displanted cultures attempting to make roots in new
countries as it encourages group solidarity and ensures greater control over group
resources. It helps minorities to survive over a long time in societies with other
practices and beliefs (New World Encyclopedia). Endogamy marriages helps to bond
the cultures to become stronger by not allowing

Hard Times By Charles Dickens And Charlotte Bronte
School is Rough (A Critique on Victorian Schools) Charles Dickens and Charlotte
Bronte were authors in the victorian era who wrote two very important poems
called Hard Times and Jane Eyre about schools in the victorian era. Schools back
then weren t the same as they are today. In the article Victorian Schools Facts for
Children, it states The schools were imposing buildings with high up windows to
prevent children from seeing out of. Furthermore the walls of the schools lacked
creativity and were often bare or had merely text for the children to look at
(Marshall). Schools in the victorian age were different than schools today. In Jane
Eyre and Hard Times the rules for victorian schooling were way different than
today, they would not be the ideal place for learning, and the teachers were
extremely strict. In the schools in the nineteenth century the regulations were way
different in school than in today s society. The students were required to not talk
unless being spoke to if so they got corporal punishments, like this article states, It
wasn t uncommon for children to be beat by canes made from birch wood. Girls
would take the punishment on their legs or hands, boys to their backs (Steele). The
students attended a school in which they were not able to go home, like a boarding
school. The school was a bright and happy place to learn. The students weren t able
to look outside and there were no colorful posters like in today s schools. The
teachers were extremely strict,
Macbeth Letter To Macbeth
Dear О›О¬П‡ОµПѓО№П‚,
You fates boast your ability to command the path of a person s life, prideful of the
claim you have unwavering demand over one s singular destiny, but how can this be
true when you have no authority over an individual in which route they choose to
embark upon towards their destination? An ending outcome might be determined by
you ОњОїбї–ПЃО±О№, but only after the individual in question determines which
branch they should climb upon. You made a dreadful and pitiful appearance in
Shakespeare s tragedy of our dear Macbeth, in which you appeared to tell him of his
destiny of regality after his acclamation to Thane of Cawdor. While this position of
Thane was unbeknownst to him at the time, you only told him after the destiny was
fulfilled; he was already Thane before you told him, yet he had not known. You did
not predetermine this fate of his, for it had already come to fruition. You only gained
accreditation by telling him that of which was already true! You cannot take credit
for the acts that have already been consummated and present them as prediction.
Macbeth brought the title of Thane of Cawdor upon himself through determination
and free will; King Duncan bequeaths the position to Macbeth after he captures his
traitorous predecessor. King Duncan states, What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath
won (Shakespeare. 1.2. 78). Yet, however, you falsifying fates caused him to believe
that you were the sole factors in his title. Presenting events that have already come
David Hume s Fork
Hume begins his empiricist enquiry by the division of knowledge into two
categories: relations of ideas and matters of fact. This differentiation became
commonly known as Hume s Fork as he compares the critical differences between
the two concepts. He distinguishes that relations of ideas are coherently logical
truths, like mathematics for example. They are universal, analytic, a priori ideas
which are known through thought alone and cannot be conceived as being false.
Hume expresses that this type of knowledge does not tell us anything new or
profound about the world because we are simply relating ideas, like the ideas of
numbers. Numbers are abstract and so solely exist as thought. Hume points to Euclid,
a Greek mathematician to express that even if there were no shapes within nature, his
hypothesis would still be undeniable as it could still be comprehended through
thought alone. On the other hand, matters of fact are gained through experience and
are therefore a posteriori as they rely on the senses and are not logically necessary.
We understand matters of fact by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hume s concern of how we come to know is both intriguing and perplexing as it
encourages us to become skeptical of the many things we would consider to be
knowledge and thus presents us with a dilemma. If we are to agree with Hume, then
experience becomes counterproductive as it cannot verify our knowledge that the sun
will rise tomorrow for instance. This would mean that science, for example, cannot
provide us with truths or knowledge. No matter how convincing, many experiments
are widely dependant on past experience and its outcomes consistency. Hume asserts
that we have an expectancy that past events will resemble future events without
really having any kind of valid justification for this. If we are to rely solely on
matters of fact, we would be greatly

was able to maintain high levels of plane utilization, thereby keeping its operating
costs low enough to support its discounted fares.
A key component of Southwest s ability to manage costs was its reliance on a single
type of plane the Boeing 737. * Over time, Southwest s ground and flight personnel
became very familiar with the 737; this decreased the airline s average turnaround
time between landing a plane and putting it back into the air. * This efficiency,
combined with the shrewd use of fuel hedges, buoyed Southwest s profits.
* Attempts by competitors to mimic Southwest s LCC model typically were
unsuccessful, as demonstrated by the infamous rise and fall of no frills People
Express Airlines during the 1980s and the short lived attempts of several major
airlines including Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines to create
LCC subsidiaries during the 1990s.
By 2006, Southwest was firmly established as the only consistently profitable airline
in an industry rocked by deregulation, fare wars, overcapacity, and the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001.
Specifically, Southwest was the only airline in America to show a profit for each
year since 1973 up to 2005.
After September 11, the airline industry
Critique Of Immanuel Kant
Immanuel Kant was born on April 22, 1724 in Königsberg, Prussia where he stayed
all of his life (which is now Kaliningrad, Russia). Immanuel Kant was one of the most
influential philosophers in the history of Western Philosophy. His contributions to
metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics have brought an impact on most
philosophical movement that followed him.
He was the fourth oldest of 9 children in a family of artisans. He was originally
named Emmanuel but, after learning Hebrew he changed his name to Immanuel . In
his youth, Kant was a solid, unspectacular student. The family belonged to the
Protestant sect of the Pietists, and Kant went to a Pietist school. The emphasis on
reason in Kant s philosophy is sometimes interpreted as a reaction against his
religious education.
Kant was only 5 feet tall, and very thin when reached old age which he attributed to
his strict daily routine. He got up at 5 o clock every day and spent the next hour
drinking tea, smoking his pipe and meditating. From 6 to 7 o clock, he prepared for
lectures he gave at home until 9 o clock. He then worked in his study room until 1 o
clock and spent the next three hours dining, usually with his friends. After his ... Show

The Critique of the Power of Judgment brought the different topics of aesthetic and

Eastern Orthodox Vs Roman Catholic
Eastern Orthodox vs Roman Catholic In the funeral world there are a lot of
different styles of funerals. For example, Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic
funerals. Both very different, but at the same time they have several things in
common. In funerals there is an abundance of things to compare and contrast. We
will be looking at different ways the notification of death is handled in both of
these religions, removal, embalming, dressing/casketing, visitation requirements
/rituals, and interment or cremation. When you receive the first call for a Roman
Catholic, you used to have to notify the clergy, but now you do not have to notify
the clergy the family still may prefer too. You also have to abide by the churches
rules, the church may require clergy to know. However in Eastern Orthodox
depending in the area clergyman does not have to be notified either, but if you are
in an area that does require the priest to be notified you would call the clergy when
you received the first call. In most cases the notification of the priest is taken care
of by the family and they already have had the prayer service before the call to the
funeral director. When making the removal of remains of Roman Catholic there are
no restrictions upon the deceased layperson. Most of the time you will see
restrictions enforced for Priests or Nuns. Like the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox
has no restrictions on the deceased. You would just follow usual procedures
according to the church or the local
Jabberwocky Essay
Lewis Carroll(1832 1898) is a British writer with impressive works including, Alice
In Wonderland as well as Jabberwocky . In Jabberwocky , readers are taken on an
adventurous journey through sounds and images of a world all its own. His main
purpose when using those details was to to make a creative world in which the
reader would feel not only like they re reading the poem, but that they re actually
going through the same journey as the main characters. He achieves the purpose by
using the poetic devices; imagery, onomatopoeia, and alliteration.
Carroll s use of imagery not only made the poem better, it helped the reader grasp
the main purpose. When a young character is being warned by his elder of the

Reflection About Aurelia
Aurelia I request to question him, but I m neglected that chance. Observing how

He dressed up as something he wasn t and played the part.

The Field Of Applied Behavioral Science
The field of Applied Behavioral Science s future will be greatly affected by
contemporary issues that involve the creation of the Association of Professional
Behavior Analysts (APBA), board certification limitations, and the Behavior Analyst
Certification Board (BACB).
First it is important to examine the effects that the APBA will have on ABS future.
The creation of the APBA will have many negative affects on the field of behavioral
analysis as a whole. Many behavior analysts believe that the Association for Behavior
Analysis International (ABAI), which is comprised mainly of individuals whom have
a primarily scholarly interest, is not as supportive of behavior analysts who
participate dominantly in practice. This idea that the ABAI ... Show more content on

The author, Thomas S Critchfield (2011) believes that scientists and practioners
should be held separate, however I believe that this will further damage our unity
under the same field, Applied Behavior Analysis. Critchfields basis for this is that
both are both professions, but are different professions, science and practice, with
different concerns and therefore should be kept separate in order for each to succeed
in their own way. It is to my knowledge that both must coexist to better understand the
issues that ABS typically faces.
According to Bales (2012) Chritchfield s ideas deem to be a misguided idea. Bales
stated that while the two professions may be different it is important to remember
that there are individuals who engage in both science and practice. It is impossible
to say that these two parts are so separate from each other that they need to flourish
in different environments. This could cause translational research to become
nonexistent and lead use back to simple basic research and research that is for the
sole purpose of helping the people with no care taken to flourish the field. This
would lead to a field that may make discoveries but that may not be able to translate
those ideas to benefit the lives of the people. If this deems to be the case, then why
call our science Applied at all?
Next, the licensure of ABS must be addressed. ABS is
Revenge In Hamlet Essay
Hamlet
Hamlet is a classic example of a tragedy as Hamlet suffers while trying to avenge his
fathers death and eventually dies at the end while attempting to do so. Hamlet feels
empty without resolution to his father amp;#8217;s death and since there is no
justice system that is going to reveal the truth about his father amp;#8217;s death, he
must take it into his own hands. Hamlet delays killing Claudius for a long time after
the ghost appears. Hamlet delays his revenge of his fathers death not because he is a
coward but because his psychological feelings and need for a perfect revenge cause
him to delay in order to wait for the perfect moment to kill Claudius.

Hamlet enters his mother amp;#8217;s room in the next scene and he begins to
fight with her when he suddenly hears a voice behind the arras. Without looking he
thrusts his sword through it thinking it is the king. Gertrude amp;#8217;s reaction
causes Hamlet to pause and ask, amp;#8220;Is it the King? ;(3.4. 32). His doubt is
quickly assured when he looks behind the arras to reveal Polonius amp;#8217;
body. This scene is very important because it shows that Hamlet is certainly not
afraid to kill Claudius and he is not a coward. He thinks he has the perfect
opportunity to kill the King in front of his mother so he does so without hesitation.
This action displays a great deal of courage by Hamlet. Even after he discovers it is
Polonius he does not show a great deal of remorse and he even calls him a fool.
This event causes more problems in delaying Hamlet because he now has to deal
with the fact that Laertes now wants him dead. Also, after Hamlet commits the
murder he goes away for a few weeks and is unable to be in contact with the King
which delays his revenge even further.
Hamlet begins to wonder why he has not completed his task of killing Claudius yet.
He expresses his confusion when he says, quot;Of thinking to precisely on th

Secondly, Toole had detailed information concerning the crimescene that would only
be known by the killer. Thirdly, scores of eyewitnesses identified Toole as the killer.
The book outlines the tireless work done by the bereaved parents in search for
justice on behalf of other missing children. The main attraction of the book is the
investigation of the Hollywood Police Department that exposes the bulging of the
investigators that had previously worked on the case. Standiford and Matthews
carefully builds the case against the police. They provide details that contain
numerous leads that were disregarded during the initial investigation. These included
some obvious questions that were never asked, a number of crucial witnesses that
were ignored, and details concerning incomplete or falsified reports. In addition, the
fresh investigation of the investigators exposed evidence that was never examined
and a number of vital evidence that got lost.
The book exposes the most damning revelation concerning ignorance of the
Hollywood police on repeated confessions by a serial killer. The killer had detailed
information concerning the crime that was never made public. However, he was
never tried for the crime despite confessing to the boy s murder. The author does not
bend facts to show his artistic skills. He details factual information and is not self
consciously literary. The spilling of the narrative follows a
Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Secrecy
In the novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Robert Louis Stevenson emphasizes how
secrecy is used to protect one s self image and ensure no destructive secrets of one s
past become public knowledge. In the book, the plot is constantly driven forward
by deceit; Mr. Utterson does not know the relationship between Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde, and he wants to find out. Secrecy is one of the main themes in the book as it
constantly surrounds the character of Dr. Jekyll. Jekyll s personality is serious and
never unusual or abnormal, however his true repressed personality is revealed in the
form of Mr. Hyde. This suggests that Stevenson is trying to show man s repressed,
inner nature, and how all men have aspects of their being of which they are ashamed

Design Of Design And Technology
Design and Technology flourished out of hands on craft base subjects, with the
original focus on developing students physical skills. Practical lessons in craft based
subjects became firmly established in secondary schools in the UK in the 1960s
through to the 1970s. Design and Technology was first introduced into the school
curriculum in England and Wales in 1989. (Martin and Owen Jackson, 2013, Owen
Jackson, pg.65) Design and Technology originates from craft based traditions,
industrial and manufacturing practices and embracing new technologies. Design and
Technology is both a skill focused and knowledgefocused subject in that it is about
what they make and also what they learn. Design and Technology is a dynamic
endlessly changing subject with the skills and knowledge surrounding the subject
developing with time. Principles and concepts surrounding Design Technology must
remain relevant to the time in order for students to gain the most from the subject.
The National Curriculum was first introduced in 1988 with technology as a
compulsory subject for pupils aged 5 16. In 1995 it was revised and renamed
Design Technology which include Resistant Materials, Systems Control, Food and
Textiles. In 2007 Design Technology became compulsory for pupils in Key Stage 1
to 3, and KS4 and KS5 students had a choice as to whether they wanted to study it
further as a GCSE or A level. (Owen Jackson, 2008. Pg1). Since the review of the
National Curriculum in 2011 (Barlex et al,
Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note
The poem, Suicide Note by Janice Mirikitani is very similar to the song, Jumper by
Third Eye Blind but differentiates in many ways, also. These two pieces of work
are very much similar in the way their themes are expressed through the use of
imagery and symbolism to help tell their story about suicide and how it has
affected them. The two pieces also differentiate when it comes to who is actually
narrating the story and the tone of voice being used. There is a lot of relationship
between the themes of the poem, Suicide Note and the song, Jumper . Both of these
works seem to correlate with the overall theme of suicide. The poem, Suicide Note ,

Pop Art In The 1960s
Years following World War II, the United States enjoyed an unprecedented period of
economic and political growth. The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil
Rights Movement sought equality for African Americans, and the women s
liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment stepped into the new level
with the monumental super stars such as Elis Presley led the emergence of Rock
and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as
the dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a cultural
revolution was underway, led by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink
and even overturn what was, in their eyes, a stifling social order ruled by
conformity. Following the transformation to popular of the world, the new art
movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the
world around them, representing and, at times, making art directly from everyday
items, consumer goods, and mass media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was
not just about bold colors and celebrity culture; it brought the popular world from
cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas into the realm of high art, turning taste
on its head in the process. It was in this climate of turbulence, experimentation, and
consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain and America in the
mid to late 1950s. They did this in a straightforward manner, using bold swaths of
primary colors, often

Collaborating on an international level remains important for conducting ice patch
research due to the rapid melting of alpine ice and decay of valuable artifacts. The
work conducted for this thesis included cooperation from Parks Canada. Ice patch

on the Canadian side of Chilkoot Pass. Parks Canada allowed me and KLGO

The Spanish cinema started with black and while movie. At the first they act with just

After that they added the voice. The Mexican movies was increased in Hollywood

Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine being stranded on an island with a group of people that you don t know.
Fighting for survival, what would you do? Would you try to create an organized
society or would you leave everyone to fend for themselves and make a chaotic
island? Similarly, in the Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of British
schoolboys gets stranded on an island when their airplane to safety from war crashes.
On the island, the boys are pulled between two very different leaders; Jack and
Ralph. Ralph tries to create a civilized island. He has meetings every day and gives
every boy a role or a job. At first he is the only leader as he is charismatic and
everyone likes him. However, as the other boys realize that there are no adults on the
island to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding demonstrates this in the text by creating a symbol that represented order,
morals and society, the conch shell. The conch was the main item holding the boys
together. In the beginning, when the boy s first landed, Ralph blows it and brings
the boys all to him. Also, the conch was one of the main reasons Ralph was initially
chosen as a chief. At the daily discussions that Ralph held, only someone who held
the conch could speak. However, as the book goes on the boys begin to disregard
the value of the conch more and more until they break it and kill a boy, Piggy,
along with it. In the scene, Piggy and Ralph go to Jack s tribe to ask them to return
Piggy s glasses which Jack stole from them. Jack becomes increasingly angry at the
accusation and throws a boulder at Piggy who is speaking with the conch, trying to
extract the last drop of the boy s moral duty, using the pure and shining white conch
as a beacon for their pity. It is described that when the conch breaks it exploded into a
thousand white fragments (Golding 181). As the conch is shattered, it represents the
complete and absolute destruction of society and order. It shows that the boys have
truly become savages . Golding wants to depict that anybody, even seemingly
innocent little children are capable of such acts of savagery. Golding agrees with the
enlightenment age thinker, Hobbes. Hobbes thought that humans in a state of nature
were naturally evil. Like Golding he thought in a place without society, people would
make a chaotic and primitive society, where everyone would fend for themselves and
do anything to survive. Moreover, Golding further demonstrates his point by creating
an argument between Ralph and Jack where they discuss whether they should
abandon the fire and hunt, or tend the
Strategic Planning Process Analysis Paper
The Hypothetical Schedule: Prospective Florida Attorney (continued) Advancing to
the final stage of the strategic planning model, illustrated in Figure 3.1, evolves
from conceptual to reality as our prospect assembles a schedule from all of their
prerequisite research applied heretofore. As a result, a logically simplified process
produces a single execution model for each phase of the plan. The need for an
effective, simplified method to organize all activities, dates, and critical deadlines in
an easily maintained process rivals the requirement to retain consistency throughout
this particular project life cycle. While numerous methods exist to construct such
schedules, our prospect chooses to utilize a spreadsheet for its simplicity in... Show

Understand that the explosive growth of information commonly experienced when
bringing concepts and ideas forward tend to surface, sometimes surprisingly, when
constructing a detailed schedule. A point often overlooked when developing plans
relate to consideration of their tangible manageability during implementation.
Hofstadter s Law describes an abyss entered by myriads of projects and tasks
evidenced by consuming resources far beyond reasonable projections. And while not
building the Nautilus, a significant amount of dates and activities fashion themselves
around critical components of the process. With multiple universities to track, our
prospect will note the schedule grows substantially as additional sets of dates,
deadlines or other requirements add to the mix. Consolidating date instances by
normalizing earliest occurrences in phase I and II should alleviate some unwieldiness
of managing that information. However, with the obvious exception of academic
requirements, potential minefields lay in wait for missing any dates on that schedule
and illustrate the main reason for its existence in the first
London Memorial Research Paper
The date was July 7th, 2005, on a normal day at a normal time. In London tragedy
struck as the worst terrorist attack in the United Kingdom s history unfolded. The
London bombings of 2005 was when four suicide bombers bombed all around
London. The bombs went off on three underground trains and one double decker bus.
The bombings were the worst single attack on London since World War 2. There
were four bombers that had been in contact with Al Qaedaand were supposed to
detonate their bombs on innocent people. The whole world was impacted by this
day, especially those who lost their lives. It was 8:49 am. And in one minute the
world would change forever. 8:50 am. 3 bombs explode within 50 seconds of each
other. The first bomb which was detonated at Liverpool Street by Shehzad Tanweer
killed 7 people and injured 171 more. The second bomb which was detonated by
Mohammad Sidique Khan at Edgware Road had a death count of 6 and injured 163.
The third bomb was detonated between King s Cross and Russell Square by
Jermaine Lindsay. This bomb had the highest death count out of all four, which was
26 and injured 340 passengers. At 9:47 Hasib Hussain detonates his bomb on the
number 30 bus at Tavistock Square,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This memorial would be known as the 7 July Memorial. The memorial was
Presented by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall on July 7, 2009
exactly 4 years after the incident. The memorial consists of 52 stainless steel pillars,
that represent each of the 52 victims, these are grouped together in four interlinking
groups reflecting the four locations of the incidents. On each pillar there are
inscriptions marking the date, time and locations of the bombings. There is a bank
of grass that has a steel wall that lists the names of the victims. The memorial was
constructed by a design team including architects Carmody Groarke and engineering
team Arup. The families of those lost also had a say in the
Compare And Contrast Pericles And Alcibiades
The Peloponnesian war lasted from 431 to 404 B.C. and was profoundly influenced
by two Athenian men, Pericles and Alcibiades. Though Pericles and Alcibiades were
related by blood they were quite different. Pericles was a diplomat, he approached
matters with a level head and tried to find a solution that did not end in bloodshed.
Alcibiades was less stable, he either fought, manipulated, or ran when confronted with
a problem. Both men spoke eloquently enough to move almost the entire city of
Athens, using their words to bend people to their will. What was different between
them was what their will was, one cared about the city and its wellbeing, the other
cared about his own wellbeing.
Pericles and Alcibiades were both students of ... Show more content on

In his ambitions to conquer Sicily and then move on to Italy and the Peloponnesus,
he also shows this thirst.12 The Athenians recognized Alcibiades s brilliance and
ruthlessness so they elected Nicias as a general to [temper] his rashness. 13
Alcibiades resorted to violence to gain glory, Pericles, on the other hand, attempted
to prolong peace and settle matters with diplomacy. He once tried to persuade the
cities to send delegates to meet in Athens to discuss restorations of temples
destroyed during the war with Persia, but nothing came of his plan because of
Spartan opposition.14 He even went so far as to bribe the chief magistrates of
Sparta to buy time to prepare for war, which he knew was inevitable.15
In his funeral oration, Pericles praises Athens and the city s focus on balance
between personal care and care for the state. He compared it to Sparta, where
personal comfort was overlooked to benefit the state and said that the personal
comfort allowed to Athenians is what makes the war worth fighting.16 By praising
Athens, he showed his love and loyalty to his city. Alcibiades had no such loyalty.
When he fled to Sparta he was asked if he did not trust his country, his answer was
with everything other than his life.17 When in Sparta he gave military advice that
caused more ruin and destruction to his city than anything else.18 After
Container Imbalances And The Context Of The Global
Economy
1Container Imbalances in the Context of the Global Economy
1.1Economic Situation of the Shipping Industry
To introduce into the context relevant for the processing of the case, it will firstly be
shown which circumstances shape the industry. It will also be demonstrated how and
why the latest economic developments are influencing the container shipping
business and consequently are relevant for the following work.
As nearly 90% of the worldwide transported goods are moved by ship and 60% of
those goods are containerized , a high dependency of global trade and the demand for
container transports can be detected. Therefore trends like global sourcing coming
along with the globalization are highly influenced by various variables which might
for example include the following :
Population growth
Social standards and income
Labor cost
Language and communication
Political and legal aspects
Export figures
Degree of industrialization
Currency fluctuations
Technological developments (e.g. Internet)
Linking the world container volume to the global Real GDP as an indicator for the
development of the overall economy (cf Figure 1), it can be detected that the
shipping industry suffered more dramatically than expected from the worldwide
economic crisis in 2008 when the financial markets crashed . Figure 1: Correlation
between Economy and Container Trade (Index 2000: 100; data adopted from IMF

The Stone Age Poem
The poetess realistically depicts the burdens of domestic life, sickness, her ageing
and decaying of body, and the anticipation of death in the final passage: I shall be
the fat kneed hag in the long queue The one from whose shopping bag the mean
potato must Roll across the road. I shall be the patient On the hospital bed, lying in
drugged slum And dreaming of home. I shall be the grandmother Willing away her
belongings, those scraps and trinkets More lasting than her bones. Perhaps some
womb in that Darker world shall convulse, when I finally enter, A legitimate entrant,
marked by discontent. (Gino) The Stone Age, one of the finest poems in this
anthology, strongly expresses the note of rebellionagainst male domination. The wife
resents the restraints imposed on her. The husband who is described as an Old fat
spider weaves webs of bewilderment around her and confines her within the four
walls of domesticity. She painfully complains. You turn me into a bird of stone, a
granite Dove, you build round me a shabby drawing room, And stroke my pitted face
absent mindedly while you read. She dislikes him as other men haunt her mind. Yet,
as day dreams, strong men cast their shadows, they sink Like white suns in the swell
of my Dravidian blood. (The Stone Age)
In the absence of the husband she knocks at another s door. She asserts her
individuality and challenges domesticity. A note of rebellion and defiance is strongly
expressed in this poem.
The Rim Fire
The Rim Fire of 2013 ravaged the slopes of the Stanislaus National Forest leaving
many areas severely burned and unable to recover. Restoration efforts have been
made and 56,000 saplings were planted in 2016 in the most severely burned areas;
but the forest still has a long way to recovery. Fires are a naturally occurring hazard
in the Stanislaus National Forest, and have contributed to the replenishment,
control, and sustainability of the forest; but fires of the Rim Fire s intensity are
very rare. The Rim Fire destroyed over 277,314 acres of habitat, harmed many
mature trees, and ruined the layers of topsoil, and increased erosion and runoff. The
devastation of the Rim Fire would not be have been so intense if it weren t for past

This was attributed to the ranges of vegetation type with elevation and slope, with
mixed conifer tree species growing at higher elevations with increased tree cover.
Similar patterns can be identified with the Rim Fire in the Stanislaus National
Forest. The Pinus ponderosa (ponderosa pine) or Calocedrus decurrens (incense
cedar) tree species tend to favor higher elevations, slopes between 0 45 degrees,
and aspects between 0 33 degrees from North (Myers). Based on the current
conditions of the area, we hypothesis that tree survivability will be highest in
elevations above 3,000 feet and below 3,300 feet, highest in slopes between 0 45
degrees, and highest in aspects between 0 33 degrees. Tree survivability will also be
highest in area with the best soil, water quality, and forest health conditions for
successful tree sapling growth.
Working at the Fast Food Industry
The fast food industry is a very popular chain that provides food for consumers but
is working at the fast food industry the best working experience a person could
have? Fast food restaurants have a reputation, and in the present, they re labeled as
the worst jobs, but there are some positive things about working in the fast food
industry such as learningand developing skills at an early age. In Working at
McDonalds, Amitai Etzioni argues that high schoolstudents working in the fast food
industry are put at risk because they do not develop anything that helps them in the
future and it causes a distraction against their academics. In The Effects of
Employment, Dan Laitsch explained that working during high school could be
beneficial because students are exposed to skills that are useful in the future. High
school students who work during school benefit because they seize important skills;
they also build character and develop responsibility in conducting their money.
In Working at McDonalds, Amitai Etzioni explains that engaged jobs do not teach
teens good money habits and instead spend the money on wasteful items. He also
explains that the majority of students who receive the money do not spend the money
on important key elements such as future college funds. Etzioni also argued that these
students do not know how to manage their money, which leads them to spending
them on ridiculous things. Etizoni explained that working can become a distraction
for students
Business Need Analysis And Stakeholder Analysis Focus

1. Introduction
The report dwells on flipped classroom, which is about student centric learning
approach rather than traditional learning. The university has the hypothetical aim of
increasing the use of flipped classroom. It has partial implementation of this model
and focused on extending it to other courses. Most of the courses are online with
recorded lectures and few face to face communication sessions such as workshops
primarily come under flipped learning. Though it can be considered as partial flip,
there are certain ways in which it can be implemented. The following discussion on
business need analysis and stakeholder analysis focus on Academic support
perspective. The ways the academic support can be improved in order to enhance ...

This need can be described as an opportunity rather than a problem. This may be
considered as one of the aspect of Griffith University s ambitious plan, which states in

пїјпїј6 of flipped learning, this can be considered as need generated to create a
strategic goal. So this can be described as a need generated from top down approach.
There may be a variety of solution for enhancing academic support for students and
staff to increase flipped learning. The correct approach is to be identified by
consulting stakeholders involved in the project. This is basically done through
elicitation of requirements from stakeholders.
2.1 Business goals and objectives
To fulfill the goals the set of objectives are considered for detailed analysis which
are in compliance to SMART test. The objectives are prepared after discussion with
peers and generic stakeholders involved and Griffith University s strategic plan.
These objectives are specific, measurable, achievable relevant and time bounded. The
primary objective in relation to academic support for flipped learning methodology is
Within 24 months, university will increase flipped learning methodology to more
than half of the courses by improving the academic support by creating additional
support for students and staff and appointment booking for consultations and

Interracial Relationships Essay.pdf

  • 1. Interracial Relationships Essay Composing an essay on the subject of interracial relationships presents a unique set of challenges that require careful consideration and sensitivity. Addressing this topic involves delving into complex societal issues, historical contexts, and personal experiences, making it crucial to approach the subject with nuance and empathy. One of the primary difficulties lies in navigating the intricate web of cultural, racial, and societal dynamics that influence interracial relationships. A comprehensive exploration may require an in- depth understanding of the historical background, examining the impact of racism, stereotypes, and cultural biases on individuals and communities. Balancing the historical perspective with contemporary viewpoints adds an additional layer of complexity to the essay. Moreover, addressing the personal aspect of interracial relationships necessitates a delicate touch. It involves acknowledging and respecting diverse perspectives, experiences, and emotions. Juggling the need for inclusivity while avoiding generalizations or perpetuating stereotypes requires careful wording and thoughtful analysis. The essay must also consider the evolving nature of societal attitudes towards interracial relationships. This involves staying updated on current events, research findings, and cultural shifts, as these factors can significantly influence the discourse surrounding the topic. Striking a balance between acknowledging progress and recognizing persistent challenges is essential to present a well-rounded perspective. Furthermore, the essay should encourage critical thinking and foster constructive dialogue. Navigating potentially sensitive content requires skill in presenting arguments without alienating readers or perpetuating divisiveness. Achieving a tone that invites reflection and discussion, rather than confrontation, is crucial in conveying the essay's message effectively. In conclusion, composing an essay on interracial relationships demands a careful blend of historical awareness, cultural sensitivity, and empathy. It is a task that requires a nuanced approach to address the multifaceted layers of this complex subject. With the right balance, an essay on interracial relationships can contribute to fostering understanding and promoting meaningful conversations about diversity and unity in society. • 2. Sexuality And The Female Body Sex. A lot of people have it, a lot of people want to have it, and it is generally considered a pretty great thing, but why are there so many taboos surrounding sex? Particularly, there seems to be a lot a taboos pertaining to women and their relationship with sex. Society has always been uncomfortable with women expressing their sexuality and often downplays women s capacities for sexual pleasure. Our literature reflects this. Women in literature do not often express their sexuality openly, or if they do, they are vilified. If the women are not vilified, the book will often be banned (like several of the books we ve read in class, like Mrs. Warren s Profession and ChГ©ri). While Maggie is one of the most likeable characters in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, she certainly isn t well liked by the other characters. She and Mae clearly have a rivalry and Brick, not being sexually interested in her aside, can t stand her. Throughout the course of the book, his resentment of her becomes clearer. From the beginning of the play he s already been looking at Maggie in a way that [freezes her] blood, (p. 26) a clear sign of resentment and he doesn t even know he s doing it. Even if Brick is gay, or even if he isn t, Maggie being portrayed negatively just shows how uncomfortable society is with women pursuing sex. In the first scene Maggie drops some less than subtle hints about wanting sex and then spends the rest of the play being resented by Brick and all but tormented by the rest of her extended family. While Brick may not be interested in her because of his sexuality, he offers no clarity and thus appears extremely indifferent to his wife and how negatively this has affected her. She nearly breaks down at the beginning of the play because she s gone through a hideous transformation (p. 26) after years of an unfulfilling marriage and tries to tell Brick how lonely she is, how lonely he makes her feel, and his only response
  • 3. What Is A Hero s Journey Christopher Vasquez 2/9/17 Period 2 The Urge to Travel Have you ever wondered why some people today do the most absurd, crazy things, even though it can cost them their life? That question is expressed in the Anglo Saxon poem, The Seafarer. Although the original writer of the poem is unknown, it was translated from it s original language to English by Burton Raffel. The author explains the hardships of a sea traveler in the Anglo saxon times, who had to travel for months, even years, without seeing their friends and family. It was never certain that they would meet again, as diseases and conflicts were frequent in this time, which made the job all the more challenging and anxious. One of the main themes of the poem is that the speaker has some unknown urge to move with the sea And yet my heart wanders away, my soul roams with the sea, the whale s home, wandering to the widest corners. (lines 58 60). He seems to be at a conflict with himself between wanting to live a stable life, and wanting to travel the seas. In the end, it seems like no matter what, his heart urges him to travel. The theme represents mankind s great urge to travel and to explore no matter how life threatening the journey is. Another recurring theme that the author points out is fate and the journey to the afterlife. In the poem, God represents fate itself, controlling people s destiny No man has ever faced the dawn certain which of fate s three threats would fall: illness, or age, or an enemy s sword, snatching the life from his soul. (lines 68 71). The author is saying that nothing is going to change our fate, and we should be fine with that. The only thing that we should worry about is our inevitable arrival to Heaven. Considering this, the seafarer s ravenous travels could be a symbolic way of showing the journey and will of the human soul into the

If both species had empathy toward one another then young children from both man and pachyderm would receive appropriate guidance, therefore obtaining a better and healthier society. Humans must set an example for elephants by displaying positive behavior to eliminate the violence that can put both species at risk. In his article, Siebert describes the many violent attacks that elephants have done toward humans due to the captivity that humans have kept elephants under. The captivity toward elephants has emerged due to a lack of human empathy, which then causes elephants to rage more and engage in violent attacks. Gay Bradshaw, a psychologist at the environmental sciences program goes further to distinguish relationships between humans and animals: Where for centuries humans and elephants lived in relative peaceful coexistence, there is now hostility and violence. Now I use the term violence because of the intentionality associated with it, both in the aggression of humans and, at times, the recently observed behavior of elephants (527). The key phrase that Bradshaw states is the peaceful coexistence that humans and elephants used to have. Both humans and elephants are wild creatures and it is undeniably difficult for two extremes to make peace, especially

After reading the text, Communications in a Changing World, I learned how people can interpret things differently. As I showed a picture to three different people, they all had different words that described the picture and this explains how people perceive thoughts differently. People may perceive differently by how they feel at the exact moment of time. When shown the picture if the person is at a negative state, they will look for negative words. African American athletes are not that different from white athletes; however, media betrays a bad image of them for some unknown reasons. Our world is full of the great African Americans who showed incredible result in professional sport. On one side, a lot of African American athletes in the limelight right now come from nothing to somewhat. On the other side, there is a negative connotation that all African Americans have is sports because they are not educated, all they have is natural talent, and all they want is to make the money and not do anything to get there. Television today is often concentrated in stereotype filled African Americans sitcoms, television news is often shown in negative or crime based stories about black athletes, music music videos profanity, misogyny, hard, thugged out. The image is terrible and the reason for that is that media in general just looks at the negative too much. To begin with, African Americans have undergone decades of discrimination and racism, and despite the numerous powerful changes, which have progressively worked to propel equality for African Americans; the residue from their discrimination still exists in the crevices of our society today. The world is more similar to an analog clock, where all possibilities are present and one can only assume one is correct based on approximation but is never entirely sure of said approximation. For someone who lives in such a world, I have had to learn to embrace the contradictions both society and myself impose upon my different identities as well as my position in respect to them. It is the adaptability needed to be an immigrant, the survival instinct and mentality that come from being gay, and the defiance of traditional narratives of masculinitythrough my refusal to change my personality and embodiment to conform to it that have shaped me into the individual I am today. He has these talents and powers by simply...not being one of us. So, there s God....Way up there, looking down upon us. Earth must seem like a little ant farm to him. If he s up there, looking down and watching over us, how is it so many horrible things happen in the world? Some of you may say it s because the people that these things happened to, weren t behaving how they should have been, how God would have liked them to. Or that God allows us to make choices, good or bad. Ok, then that would mean to me that God is an unforgiving and unsympathetic, celestial meanie. Why should he watch us create misery, see wars break out, while he remains aloof, superior and more powerful than us? I say that s unfair. Perhaps one reason for him would be, because it s more fun to us be so handicapped in the celestial scheme of things. It provides more entertainment, more adventure, and it s harder. And because it s harder, he knows there will be more rewards for us when we succeed in being good . Something is obviously amiss with this plan, since we continue to do the same things over and over again through the generations, and centuries.

This differentiation became commonly known as Hume s Fork as he compares the critical differences between the two concepts. He distinguishes that relations of ideas are coherently logical truths, like mathematics for example. They are universal, analytic, a priori ideas which are known through thought alone and cannot be conceived as being false. Hume expresses that this type of knowledge does not tell us anything new or profound about the world because we are simply relating ideas, like the ideas of numbers. Numbers are abstract and so solely exist as thought. Hume points to Euclid, a Greek mathematician to express that even if there were no shapes within nature, his hypothesis would still be undeniable as it could still be comprehended through thought alone. On the other hand, matters of fact are gained through experience and are therefore a posteriori as they rely on the senses and are not logically necessary. We understand matters of fact by... This would mean that science, for example, cannot provide us with truths or knowledge. No matter how convincing, many experiments are widely dependant on past experience and its outcomes consistency. Hume asserts that we have an expectancy that past events will resemble future events without really having any kind of valid justification for this. If we are to rely solely on matters of fact, we would be greatly

At the daily discussions that Ralph held, only someone who held the conch could speak. However, as the book goes on the boys begin to disregard the value of the conch more and more until they break it and kill a boy, Piggy, along with it. In the scene, Piggy and Ralph go to Jack s tribe to ask them to return Piggy s glasses which Jack stole from them. Jack becomes increasingly angry at the accusation and throws a boulder at Piggy who is speaking with the conch, trying to extract the last drop of the boy s moral duty, using the pure and shining white conch as a beacon for their pity. It is described that when the conch breaks it exploded into a thousand white fragments (Golding 181). As the conch is shattered, it represents the complete and absolute destruction of society and order. It shows that the boys have truly become savages . Golding wants to depict that anybody, even seemingly innocent little children are capable of such acts of savagery. Golding agrees with the enlightenment age thinker, Hobbes. Hobbes thought that humans in a state of nature were naturally evil. Like Golding he thought in a place without society, people would make a chaotic and primitive society, where everyone would fend for themselves and do anything to survive. He compared it to Sparta, where personal comfort was overlooked to benefit the state and said that the personal comfort allowed to Athenians is what makes the war worth fighting.16 By praising Athens, he showed his love and loyalty to his city. Alcibiades had no such loyalty. When he fled to Sparta he was asked if he did not trust his country, his answer was with everything other than his life.17 When in Sparta he gave military advice that caused more ruin and destruction to his city than anything else.18 After

Container Imbalances And The Context Of The Global Economy 1Container Imbalances in the Context of the Global Economy 1.1Economic Situation of the Shipping Industry To introduce into the context relevant for the processing of the case, it will firstly be shown which circumstances shape the industry. It will also be demonstrated how and why the latest economic developments are influencing the container shipping business and consequently are relevant for the following work. As nearly 90% of the worldwide transported goods are moved by ship and 60% of those goods are containerized , a high dependency of global trade and the demand for container transports can be detected. Therefore trends like global sourcing coming along with the globalization are highly influenced by various variables which might for example include the following : Population growth Social standards and income Labor cost Language and communication Political and legal aspects Export figures Degree of industrialization Currency fluctuations Technological developments (e.g. Internet) Linking the world container volume to the global Real GDP as an indicator for the development of the overall economy (cf Figure 1), it can be detected that the shipping industry suffered more dramatically than expected from the worldwide economic crisis in 2008 when the financial markets crashed . Figure 1: Correlation between Economy and Container Trade (Index 2000: 100; data adopted from IMF October 2014/January 2015; IHS Global Insight January

The Stone Age Poem The poetess realistically depicts the burdens of domestic life, sickness, her ageing and decaying of body, and the anticipation of death in the final passage: I shall be the fat kneed hag in the long queue The one from whose shopping bag the mean potato must Roll across the road. I shall be the patient On the hospital bed, lying in drugged slum And dreaming of home. I shall be the grandmother Willing away her belongings, those scraps and trinkets More lasting than her bones. Perhaps some womb in that Darker world shall convulse, when I finally enter, A legitimate entrant, marked by discontent. (Gino) The Stone Age, one of the finest poems in this anthology, strongly expresses the note of rebellionagainst male domination. The wife resents the restraints imposed on her. The husband who is described as an Old fat spider weaves webs of bewilderment around her and confines her within the four walls of domesticity. She painfully complains. You turn me into a bird of stone, a granite Dove, you build round me a shabby drawing room, And stroke my pitted face absent mindedly while you read. She dislikes him as other men haunt her mind. Yet, as day dreams, strong men cast their shadows, they sink Like white suns in the swell of my Dravidian blood. (The Stone Age) In the absence of the husband she knocks at another s door. She asserts her individuality and challenges domesticity. A note of rebellion and defiance is strongly expressed in this poem.
  • 46. The Rim Fire The Rim Fire of 2013 ravaged the slopes of the Stanislaus National Forest leaving many areas severely burned and unable to recover. Restoration efforts have been made and 56,000 saplings were planted in 2016 in the most severely burned areas; but the forest still has a long way to recovery. Fires are a naturally occurring hazard in the Stanislaus National Forest, and have contributed to the replenishment, control, and sustainability of the forest; but fires of the Rim Fire s intensity are very rare. The Rim Fire destroyed over 277,314 acres of habitat, harmed many mature trees, and ruined the layers of topsoil, and increased erosion and runoff. The devastation of the Rim Fire would not be have been so intense if it weren t for past fire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was attributed to the ranges of vegetation type with elevation and slope, with mixed conifer tree species growing at higher elevations with increased tree cover. Similar patterns can be identified with the Rim Fire in the Stanislaus National Forest. The Pinus ponderosa (ponderosa pine) or Calocedrus decurrens (incense cedar) tree species tend to favor higher elevations, slopes between 0 45 degrees, and aspects between 0 33 degrees from North (Myers). Based on the current conditions of the area, we hypothesis that tree survivability will be highest in elevations above 3,000 feet and below 3,300 feet, highest in slopes between 0 45 degrees, and highest in aspects between 0 33 degrees. Tree survivability will also be highest in area with the best soil, water quality, and forest health conditions for successful tree sapling growth.

Working at the Fast Food Industry The fast food industry is a very popular chain that provides food for consumers but is working at the fast food industry the best working experience a person could have? Fast food restaurants have a reputation, and in the present, they re labeled as the worst jobs, but there are some positive things about working in the fast food industry such as learningand developing skills at an early age. In Working at McDonalds, Amitai Etzioni argues that high schoolstudents working in the fast food industry are put at risk because they do not develop anything that helps them in the future and it causes a distraction against their academics. In The Effects of Employment, Dan Laitsch explained that working during high school could be beneficial because students are exposed to skills that are useful in the future. High school students who work during school benefit because they seize important skills; they also build character and develop responsibility in conducting their money. In Working at McDonalds, Amitai Etzioni explains that engaged jobs do not teach teens good money habits and instead spend the money on wasteful items. He also explains that the majority of students who receive the money do not spend the money on important key elements such as future college funds. Etzioni also argued that these students do not know how to manage their money, which leads them to spending them on ridiculous things. Etizoni explained that working can become a distraction for students

Introduction The report dwells on flipped classroom, which is about student centric learning approach rather than traditional learning. The university has the hypothetical aim of increasing the use of flipped classroom. It has partial implementation of this model and focused on extending it to other courses. Most of the courses are online with recorded lectures and few face to face communication sessions such as workshops primarily come under flipped learning. Though it can be considered as partial flip, there are certain ways in which it can be implemented. So this can be described as a need generated from top down approach. There may be a variety of solution for enhancing academic support for students and staff to increase flipped learning. The correct approach is to be identified by consulting stakeholders involved in the project. This is basically done through elicitation of requirements from stakeholders. 2.1 Business goals and objectives To fulfill the goals the set of objectives are considered for detailed analysis which are in compliance to SMART test. The objectives are prepared after discussion with peers and generic stakeholders involved and Griffith University s strategic plan. These objectives are specific, measurable, achievable relevant and time bounded. The primary objective in relation to academic support for flipped learning methodology is Within 24 months, university will increase flipped learning methodology to more than half of the courses by improving the academic support by creating additional support for students and staff and appointment booking for consultations and
