The 21st Century Job Hunt; Plan for successGeorge Janczuk
The ‘job for life’ mantra is a relic of a bygone era, and IT professionals have always valued career progression over ‘tenure’ with jobs being stepping stones on an ever upward career journey. However, the post .COM crash and post-GFC IT world is defined by the rise in off-shoring and an ever increasing focus on driving commoditisation and efficiency in IT leaving the days when IT professionals could write their own cheques and pick-and-choose their jobs at will well and truly behind us. With IT jobs no longer being plentiful and pay scales stagnating the competition is fierce.
The outlook isn’t all bleak, with new tools and recruitment modalities enabling new opportunities; but tools are only as good as the plan – and success in your job hunt, more than ever, requires planning (and don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater – some of the old world truisms still apply!)
George focuses on how to plan for success in your job hunt. All the way from key strategies to tips, George looks at how to get ahead of the pack and achieve success. And whilst a presentation of 21st century job hunting would not be complete without coverage of LinkedIN (and yes – George spends quite some time on what is now part-and-parcel of the modern job hunt); George looks at the broader landscape and what you can do to prepare for your next move.
What knowledge you can expect to take away from this presentation:

What animates your sense of wonder and excitement? What moves you to action? How can you convey your personal passions in a professional way, and how can you weave your professional endeavors into your personal style? This session will discuss different avenues for developing your personal brand in a way that feels real and authentic. We’ll discuss tips on how to more effectively marshal social media and other online tools, including a website, to tell your story to the world. Our conversation together will cover ways to use platforms such as LinkedIn, Quora, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to joyfully, and with confidence, share the brand that you establish for yourself. || As presented during the 2015 Kaleidoscope event presented by the Sparrow Foundation and Women Working Wonders. (September 11, 2015, Lansing, Michigan)
Small businesses often tell us talent is their most valuable asset. With a lean, efficient team, every person is critical to success. But finding ‘rock star’ talent is a challenge - from identifying people who fit with your company’s unique values, to competing with big companies’ brands and perks. In addition, many small businesses are in regional centers with less than ample local talent.
To learn more about overcoming these hurdles, we looked to a vibrant regional center: Blacksburg, Virginia. Earlier this year, local business leaders from the Roanoke-Blacksburg area convened for the first LinkedIn Live event, and shared the tactics they use to attract top talent.
Check out the slideshow for a full list of best practices we discussed.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Curate
endorsements,
recommenda-ons
• Endorsements:
a

business
skills…
BUT,
they’re
important
profile
keywords
• Recommenda-ons
are
a
whole
new

engagement
–
a
“Comment”
instead
of
a
“Like”
47. Endorsements
should
tell
YOUR
story
You
don’t
automa-cally
have
to
accept
every
endorsement
– Especially
true
when
you’re
endorsed
for

Accept

49. #9:
If
you
ask
for
a
recommenda-on,
give
one
back!
• It’s
fine
to
ask
for
wripen
recommenda-ons
– Acer
you’ve
been
connected
for
awhile
– When
the
person
you’re
asking
knows
you
• It’s
best
to
dra$
up
a

recommenda-on
with
the
request
– PR
people
make
up
quotes
for
approval
all
the

– It
saves
your

valuable
-me
• Offer
a
recommenda-on

– It’s
