Forty percent of club leaders say that “attracting new members” is the biggest challenge their clubs face. But is recruitment the issue? Or is it actually learning how to create healthy clubs that offer a vibrant membership experience, one that is irresistible to both members and visitors? Using stories of transformation from Rotary and in their professional careers, trainers Louisa Horne and Doug Logan outline one strategy for making necessary changes to the club experience while including members in the process.

- So, what can you do to ensure a welcoming, nurturing environment? Be courageous. Don’t be afraid to challenge your club’s rituals, habits and traditions. To help you with that, Louisa and I have been developing tools to help club leaders clarify the issues on which they could focus. These are based on what we know about effective leadership and governance. We’ve synthesized one of these tools down to 8 questions – which we call the 8 questions. We encourage you to use the questions within your club to get a conversation started. They could be the focus of a board meeting, or a club assembly. Use what you learn to help you create a road map for moving forward.
