Editor's Notes
Welcome fellow Rotarians!
My name is Chris Etienne.
Many of you are Presidents-Elect of your Rotary Club! Congratulations! You are about to embark on an incredible journey to lead your Rotary club in the coming year.
It is a pleasure to facilitate this session along with my colleagues:
Geeta Manek, Rotary Coordinator from Kenya
Rich Churchman, Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator from the US.
Alberto Cecchini, former Rotary Public Image Coordinator from Italy.
As the leader of your Rotary club, you have the opportunity to “Lead your Club to Greatness”. But how will you do that?
Leadership mean many things: influence, teamwork, communication, decision-making, management, contribution, vision, ethics, motivation and responsibility. Yes, those are all key and instrumental in your success as a leader.
In addition, our organization provides us guidance to lead our members to greatness…
We have a Rotary International Strategic Plan to help guide your club onto a path of success.
The three priorities of our Strategic Plan are:
supporting and strengthening clubs,
focusing and increasing humanitarian service,
and enhancing our public image.
They are reinforced by our core values: fellowship, integrity, diversity, service, and leadership.
So what has RI invested in the plan? Let me summarize just a few key actions taken to support our clubs and you…
Keeping Rotary strong, attractive, and relevant starts with supporting and strengthening our clubs.
As leaders, we need to focus and attracting and engaging our members.
Enhancing the Rotary membership experience at the club level is the most significant opportunity to strengthen Rotary overall.
Years of research and pilots suggest that giving clubs flexibility can have a positive impact on member attraction, retention and engagement. For Rotary to remain relevant, we must make it a priority to create innovative and flexible membership opportunities.
Next, let’s take a look at another strategic plan priority - focusing and increasing humanitarian service.
Rotary introduced a new grant mode in recent years to simplify and focus on sustainability of Rotary-funded projects. Grants and funding of grants continues to increase and provide for a more significant impact of Rotarian dollars “Doing Good in the World’ through educational and humanitarian programs.
In addition, In the words of Past RI President Kalyan Banerjee, “thanks to PolioPlus the world discovered Rotary and Rotarians discovered themselves.” The impact of the global mobilization of Rotarians, all working towards a common purpose, cannot be emphasized enough. Because of this worldwide focus, Polio is ever so close to being eradicated and YTD 2017 there have only been 5 reported cases.
Let me now highlight the third priority of the RI Strategic Plan – enhancing public image and awareness.
Rotarians now have access to Rotary’s Brand Center providing tools to help maintain a clear, cohesive message about what Rotary is, what we do, and why it is important.
In coordinating the priorities of our strategic plan, we put our efforts to work with our essence statement of:
Bring together leaders
Exchanging ideas and
Taking action…leaving a lasting impact in communities around the world.
YOU have a chance to move us forward as the leader of your Rotary club.
YOU are shaping our future. What that future looks for your Rotary club starts with you.
Introduction of Geeta.
What? What is the message that you need to share?
Who? Who is the audience of this message?
How? What is the best method of communicating this message?
Why? Why is that method most effective?
Would you join your club today?
If not, why not and what would you do to make it attractive first to you and then for others?
